When the Female Lead Becomes Obsessive – Chapter 189

Volume Eight: Those Years When I Was an Alpha

The Start of a Flutter

A full day and night had passed. Many people stood outside the door of the combat room, discussing the immense impact caused by Mu Wen Nuan’s pheromone leak and formulating a series of methods to resolve it.

The most effective solution at present was to temporarily control Mu Wen Nuan. If her susceptibility period were to erupt again, it would be a disaster for the entire ABO population. After all, they had discovered that regardless of whether an ABO individual had undergone gland differentiation surgery, they would be affected to some extent upon smelling Mu Wen Nuan’s pheromones.

It wasn’t that the gland differentiation surgery had flaws, but rather that Mu Wen Nuan’s pheromones were too potent; their influence was simply as fast as lightning and wind.

Xi Chen touched the swollen gland on the back of his neck. He had given himself a shot of suppressant and took a deep breath. “Major General, I’m going to step out for a bit. I can’t take it anymore.”

Major General Ning Qiu had just returned and could still hold on. He nodded and said, “Go ahead.”

He looked at the others and said, “If anyone else can’t stand it, inject a suppressant immediately and leave this area for the time being.”

Ning Qiu stared at the tightly shut door, his brow furrowed with deep worry.

Regarding the fact that Wen Nuan was Sun, although he had known for a long time, he had suppressed this information for now. He planned to wait until Wen Nuan woke up before deciding whether to report this to the Federation and the Empire.

“Are you okay?” Ning Qiu asked, looking at the red-faced Feng Ban beside him.

Ever since Wen Nuan had entered her susceptibility period, many people had been unable to bear the influence of her pheromones and had fled. Only this Omega was still persisting. Despite not having had the gland differentiation surgery and clearly being affected by Wen Nuan’s pheromones, she still insisted on staying here.

Feng Ban took two puffs from her inhaler and breathed a sigh of relief. “I’ve used a suppressant, it’s not a big deal.”

Her body was just having a slight reaction, but her mind and senses were still clear and rational.

Ning Qiu looked at the inhaler in her hand. “What is this?”

“A Purification Inhaler.”

“What’s that?” Ning Qiu asked, not understanding.

Feng Ban paused for a moment, then realized. “I forgot this thing hasn’t been officially released yet. Want to try it?”

Ning Qiu looked at the inhaler she handed over, puzzled. “How do you use this?”

Feng Ban demonstrated for him. “Press this button, then take a few deep breaths through your nose. It’ll keep you clear-headed.”

Ning Qiu followed Feng Ban’s demonstration and took two deep breaths from the inhaler.

Instantly, the chaos in his mind cleared up significantly.

It was a scent he couldn’t describe. The cold and sharp fragrance instantly cleared his head, and the reaction from being influenced by Mu Wen Nuan’s pheromones was immediately alleviated.

“What is this?” Ning Qiu asked in surprise.

Feng Ban shrugged. “A Purification Inhaler. It’s a little gadget that can keep you clear and rational when you’re being disturbed by pheromones.”

She pointed towards the inside of the combat room. “Sun made it.”

“Wen Nuan made it?” Ning Qiu was doubtful. “When was this invented?”

Feng Ban thought for a moment. “I think it was a little gadget she made three years ago. She only made one. The one in my hand is a copy I made.”

Presumably, the inhaler Mu Wen Nuan made for herself was in her own possession, right?

Ning Qiu felt much better and returned the inhaler to Feng Ban. “I think this inhaler is excellent. I’d like to buy your research, what do you think?”

“It’s not my research,” Feng Ban said with a smile. “If you want this research, you should go ask your student.”

“But with the gland differentiation surgery, this inhaler isn’t very useful to you all. What do you want it for?”

Ning Qiu explained, “I want to apply this inhaler in battles against the Zerg. The Zerg can release a unique pheromone to interfere with a soldier’s brain and mental strength. I believe this inhaler can counter the Zerg’s pheromones.”

Feng Ban considered the practical application and nodded. “That’s got some potential. When the time comes, you can just get Wen Nuan to whip one up for you.”

“Let’s talk about it after she gets better.” Ning Qiu didn’t want to burden Wen Nuan at such a difficult time.

He looked at the combat room, worried. “I wonder how things are going inside.”

Ning Qiu trusted that Wen Nuan knew her limits, but it was precisely because of this that he was even more worried she wouldn’t be able to bear hurting Jiang Yichuan and would just try to tough out the susceptibility period.

Just as he finished speaking, the doors to the combat room opened.

Everyone immediately looked over and saw Jiang Yichuan walking out, carrying an unconscious Wen Nuan.

“Wen Nuan?” Ning Qiu ran forward, looking at Wen Nuan in Jiang Yichuan’s arms, and asked with concern, “What’s wrong with Wen Nuan?”

Feng Ban took a closer look at Wen Nuan’s condition and sighed in relief. “Her susceptibility period is over. She’s just exhausted and temporarily unconscious.”

Jiang Yichuan looked at Ning Qiu and nodded. “She’s right.”

Ning Qiu looked at Jiang Yichuan and saw that aside from some sweat and a slightly flushed face, she seemed otherwise unchanged.

“Are you… alright?”

Jiang Yichuan knew what Ning Qiu wanted to ask.

She held Wen Nuan tighter and shook her head. “She didn’t mark me. I just used my pheromones to soothe her through her susceptibility period.”

Ning Qiu was astonished. “Just by… soothing with pheromones?”

Feng Ban also found it incredible and asked again, “You’re saying Wen Nuan’s susceptibility period was soothed away just by you using your pheromones?”

Jiang Yichuan nodded. “Yes.”

Hearing this, everyone was shocked.

After all, they had never heard of an alpha going through a susceptibility period with their own Omega right beside them, and getting through it safely without marking, but simply by the Omega using pheromones for comfort.

“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be taking Wen Nuan with me.”

“Wait,” Ning Qiu stopped Jiang Yichuan. “An order has come down from the higher-ups. Mu Wen Nuan’s pheromones are too strong, and their influence is massive and could easily cause chaos. So, you can’t take Wen Nuan with you for now. She needs to be placed under the supervision of the Federation.”

Jiang Yichuan’s brow furrowed. “She didn’t do anything wrong.”

“I know she didn’t do anything wrong, but she’s too special, and sometimes special cases require special treatment. This time, because the situation was urgent and handled swiftly, no irreversible chaos was caused. But if she suddenly enters a susceptibility period next time, who can guarantee that everything will be fine?” Ning Qiu explained.

Jiang Yichuan held Wen Nuan firmly in her arms and said in a low voice, “Then I want to be supervised with her.”

Ning Qiu’s eyes deepened as he gave Jiang Yichuan a long look. “Alright, I promise you.”

“Don’t worry, the Federation and the Empire won’t harm Wen Nuan. With me here, you’ll both be fine.”

“Thank you.” Jiang Yichuan nodded, then turned and left with Wen Nuan in her arms.

Everyone left with Ning Qiu, except for Feng Ban, who remained in place, lost in thought for a long time.

She walked into the combat room. Wen Nuan’s rose pheromones had not yet dissipated. Feng Ban immediately took two puffs from her Purification Inhaler to stay clear-headed.

She keenly detected a faint, fresh scent—a freesia quietly blooming beneath the rich fragrance of roses.

Feng Ban chuckled softly and murmured, “So that’s how it is.”

Mu Wen Nuan and Jiang Yichuan were confined in a solitary room in the Federation tower.

Ever since Wen Nuan’s susceptibility period ended, she had remained in a coma, like a vegetable who could only breathe.

Jiang Yichuan stayed by Wen Nuan’s side day and night. When Feng Ban arrived, Jiang Yichuan had already gone three days and two nights without sleep. She kept her eyes fixed on the unconscious Wen Nuan on the bed, afraid that if she blinked, the person before her would vanish into thin air.

“We’ve examined Wen Nuan’s body. There are no major issues, but she just won’t wake up.” Ning Qiu sighed.

He hadn’t been able to sleep well these past few days either, coming over every day to check on Wen Nuan’s condition.

Feng Ban had suddenly said she had a way to wake Wen Nuan, so Ning Qiu had brought her to the solitary room to give it a try.

Feng Ban looked at Wen Nuan’s weak state, her face so pale it was almost transparent. Then she glanced at Jiang Yichuan and lamented inwardly: Neither of them looked human anymore.

“Alright, I’ll give it a try.”

Ning Qiu gave Wen Nuan a deep look, then turned and left, closing the door to the solitary room behind him.

The room contained only two beds, its four clean, white walls tightly confining all desire and hope.

Feng Ban looked at the other bed. There were no signs of it having been slept in, which meant Jiang Yichuan had maintained her current posture, watching over Wen Nuan, for the past few days.

She didn’t even dare to blink, her eyes hollow and heavy.

Feng Ban sighed softly, sat down on the other bed, and began to speak slowly. “The first time I met Mu Wen Nuan was five years ago. Back then, Planet Deluobu wasn’t a Ghost Planet yet, just a small planet looked down upon by the major powers. Interstellar pirates would raid Planet Deluobu every day, raping, pillaging, and murdering, causing its population to dwindle. Now, I’m the only native left from Deluobu.”

At the mention of Mu Wen Nuan’s name, Jiang Yichuan’s eyelashes trembled slightly.

Seeing Jiang Yichuan’s reaction, Feng Ban continued, “A dilapidated planet, a weak and useless Omega, and a gang of bloodthirsty, cruel pirates. Everyone knows how that story ends. I had already prepared myself to be tortured to death by those pirates.”

“But I never expected that in my most desperate and helpless moment, a mecha would fall out of its flight path and crash right in front of me. The mecha was smashed to pieces, and a person crawled out, cursing. That person was Mu Wen Nuan.”

Even now, when Feng Ban recalled their first meeting, the memory was still fresh, and a smile unconsciously graced her lips.

Jiang Yichuan gripped Wen Nuan’s hand tightly. It was still warm, but her own hand was as cold as ice.

Feng Ban’s tone was light and casual. “What happened next was very simple. Mu Wen Nuan saved me from a gang of pirates and helped Planet Deluobu, this weak and helpless planet, disappear from the interstellar universe, becoming what you all call a Ghost Planet.”

“This surprising and emotional first encounter led to our acquaintance, and we became the closest of friends. Planet Deluobu also became her research base. She would often research things there that I couldn’t understand, but she would explain them to me one by one so I could give her a hand.”

“She had so many fantastic ideas. Her fame grew and grew, until there wasn’t a single person in the interstellar universe who didn’t know the great name of Sun, the designer.”

“I came to feel more and more that she was incredible. I admired her for creating suppressants and blockers, I respected her for developing the gland differentiation surgery, but what I envied most was…”

Feng Ban looked at Jiang Yichuan’s back and said softly, “Everything she did was for just one person.”

Drip—

The sound of a falling teardrop was faint, yet it struck everyone’s beating heart.
