When the Female Lead Becomes Obsessive – Chapter 174

Volume Eight: Those Years When I Was an Alpha

Be Good

The six of them stood frozen in place, staring at the auction house that had been reduced to ruins.

Shi Yaqi cried out in anguish, “Chaoyang… Teacher Chaoyang couldn’t have…..?”

“Impossible! Teacher Chaoyang is so powerful, he couldn’t have….” Shi Jiayang vehemently denied it.

They didn’t dare say the word, because they couldn’t believe that someone so powerful would meet such an end.

Jiang Yichuan piloted her mecha into the rubble to search, and the others ran in after her.

They pushed aside giant rocks, bent steel beams, and dug through the earth. They were searching, believing that even if Chaoyang was truly dead, they had to see her body before they could admit it.

“Teacher Chaoyang——”

“Teacher Chaoyang——”

They called out ceaselessly, their hands never stopping their frantic digging.

Jiang Yichuan strained to push away a massive boulder, muttering under her breath, “Damn pervert, where the fuck did you go off and die?!”

Although that Chaoyang was an annoying pain, she had to admit she was incredibly strong. If she were to meet such a fate, even Jiang Yichuan would feel it was an injustice.

Suddenly, the sound of a collapse came from the right, startling the six searchers. They immediately went on guard, in case the Evil Ghost Bandit Gang had swept back in.

“Fuck!”

Wen Nuan climbed out of the ruins, covered head to toe in ash and dust. Even her mask had been shattered, barely clinging to her face. She looked like some unidentified object that had just crawled out of the ground.

That ruthless son of a bitch, Bian Tuo, had actually detached from his mecha to escape, letting his Violet Light mecha self-destruct to hold her back. He himself shed his golden cicada shell1 and vanished without a trace.

“Teacher Chaoyang!” Shi Yaqi immediately ran over, jumped out of her mecha, and hugged the filthy Wen Nuan, crying, “Teacher Chaoyang, you’re not dead! This is wonderful!”

Wen Nuan tightened her mask to prevent the approaching Jiang Yichuan from seeing her face. She patted Shi Yaqi’s back and stood up. “I’m fine. What about you all? Is everyone okay?”

“We’re all fine. Are you injured, Teacher Chaoyang?” Chu Luo came closer, his voice full of concern. “The auction house exploded right after we escaped. We thought you…”

Wen Nuan naturally knew they thought she had been blown to bits. “Don’t worry. A small explosion like that can’t kill me.”

Xi Chen saw that Wen Nuan was indeed uninjured and breathed a sigh of relief. “It’s good that you’re alright, Teacher Chaoyang.”

“Then let’s head back,” Shi Jiayang said, looking at the many people who were slowly gathering around them. “The explosion has attracted a lot of attention. We need to leave quickly, in case the Evil Ghost Bandit Gang returns.”

Xi Chen nodded. “Alright, let’s leave first.”

“You guys go ahead,” Wen Nuan said with a frown.

Shi Yaqi was surprised. “Aren’t you leaving with us, Teacher Chaoyang?”

“I still have things to do. You leave first.” Wen Nuan waved her hand. “I’m going now. As soon as you get back to the hotel, return to Tofis immediately.”

“But we haven’t completed our mission, have we?” Quan Yang didn’t understand her request. “There’s no point in us returning to Tofis now, is there?”

“You’ve all witnessed the strength of the Evil Ghost Bandit Gang today. You’re just students; you have no way of resisting such a powerful group. So don’t try to be heroes. Go back to Tofis,” Wen Nuan said, her breathing somewhat heavy.

The members of the Evil Ghost Bandit Gang who came to the Third System’s Planet Hertz were just a small fraction of their total force. The gang’s true power was far greater. Given Bian Tuo’s temperament, he would definitely return for revenge, so Jiang Yichuan and the others had to return to Planet Tofis.

“No,” Jiang Yichuan said, looking directly at Wen Nuan. “We can’t let Bian Tuo go. Sun’s manuscript is still in his hands.”

Mu Wen Nuan is also in his hands, she thought.

Wen Nuan grabbed Jiang Yichuan, who was about to give chase, her qi and blood unstable2. “I told you, you’re no match for him! Get back to Planet Tofis now!”

Jiang Yichuan shook off her hand. “Don’t touch me.”

Thrown off balance, Wen Nuan staggered, and blood trickled from the corner of her mouth, fortunately hidden from the others by her mask. “Sun’s manuscript is useless to him. It’s incomplete.”

Jiang Yichuan frowned. “What do you mean?”

“I was the one who gave Sun’s manuscript to the auction house to be sold,” Wen Nuan said, feeling her head was about to split open, as if her brain might explode. “I used it to lure him out, hoping to seize the opportunity to capture him.”

She spoke with difficulty. “So, can you please be good, and go back to Tofis with them, okay?”

Jiang Yichuan’s brow furrowed as the image of Mu Wen Nuan flashed through her mind.

That person, her eyes crinkling with a smile, would often say to her with a helpless tone, “Xiao Chuanchuan, can you please be good?”

“Who do you think you are?” Jiang Yichuan roared, feeling as if a thorn had pierced her heart. “What right do you have to tell me to be good? If it weren’t for your hesitation, how could Bian Tuo have escaped? I clearly could have kept him here!”

“And how would you have kept him here?” Wen Nuan retorted. “With your life?”

“What’s wrong with that?” A foul temper surged in Jiang Yichuan’s heart. “We are soldiers. We are supposed to obey military orders. Capturing Bian Tuo is our mission. Even if I die, I must complete the mission.”

“I can help you capture Bian Tuo.”

“I’ll do it myself. I don’t need you.”

The two stared at each other, neither willing to back down. The air was full of the smell of gunpowder3, as if a fight could break out at any moment.

Seeing that the situation was turning sour, Xi Chen stepped forward to mediate. “Yichuan, let’s go. Listen to Teacher Chaoyang. We should leave first.”

“I’m going to capture Bian Tuo,” Jiang Yichuan insisted stubbornly.

“Enough,” Wen Nuan said, grabbing Jiang Yichuan’s wrist and refusing to let go no matter how much she struggled. “I already said I’ll help you capture Bian Tuo. What are you still kicking up a fuss about? Can you stop making a scene?”

Seeing that Jiang Yichuan was about to say more, Xi Chen spoke first. “Teacher Chaoyang, the reason Yichuan is so anxious to capture Bian Tuo isn’t just to complete the mission and retrieve Sun’s manuscript. It’s also because a friend of ours was captured by him. We’re afraid our friend is in danger, so Yichuan is very desperate. I hope you can understand and not be angry.”

A friend?

What kind of friend was worth Jiang Yichuan moving her liver fire so greatly4, to the point she was willing to fight her to the death?

Could it be that in the three years she was gone, Jiang Yichuan didn’t get together with the male lead, but fell for someone else instead?

“Who is it?”

Just as Xi Chen was about to say the name, Jiang Yichuan cut him off. “An Omega.”

Xi Chen saw the look Jiang Yichuan gave him and understood why she only said Mu Wen Nuan was an Omega. After all, Mu Wen Nuan was still a wanted person. The fewer people who knew her identity right now, the better it was for her protection.

“An Omega?”

Wen Nuan was perplexed. If it were an alpha, she could understand, but how could it be an Omega?

Had Jiang Yichuan fallen for an Omega?

Did that thing she did back then actually change Jiang Yichuan’s orientation?!

Wen Nuan closed her eyes. Her head was throbbing, and a piercing ringing in her ears tormented her. “…Fine. Whether it’s Sun’s manuscript or your Omega friend, I will rescue them both for you.”

She looked at Jiang Yichuan and coaxed gently, “So, can you please leave first, alright?”

Wen Nuan’s gaze was soft as she watched her. The emotions in her eyes were too complex for Jiang Yichuan to decipher at that moment.

She gritted her teeth and took a deep breath. “…Fine.”

At this point, she could only take the gamble. In this entire interstellar universe, besides Chaoyang, there was likely no one who could stand against the Evil Ghost Bandit Gang. She had no other choice.

Wen Nuan let out a breath of relief and forced herself to swallow the blood welling up in her mouth. “You all retreat first,” she said indistinctly. “We’ll contact each other via chip later.”

“Okay,” Chu Luo replied. “Teacher Chaoyang, you have to be careful. If you run into trouble, call us. We may not be as strong as you, but we can still help with the small stuff.”

Wen Nuan nodded. “Okay. Go.”

She turned to leave, but the corner of her clothes was tugged.

Jiang Yichuan shoved a first-aid kit into Wen Nuan’s hand, said nothing, and turned to leave.

Wen Nuan paused for a moment, looked at the first-aid kit in her hand, and a small smile touched her lips.

Her soft-heartedness still hasn’t changed, even after calling me a damn pervert.

Only after all six of them had disappeared from her sight did Wen Nuan finally spit out the blood she had been suppressing for so long.

【Are you okay?】 The system had activated the pain shield long ago; otherwise, Wen Nuan wouldn’t have been able to hold on this long. 【Your mental energy and perceptual ability are in chaos right now. You need to rest.】

Wen Nuan rubbed her head and left the ruins. “I’m fine. It’s bearable.”

【Even though you’re in so much pain, there’s something I have to tell you. The female lead’s blackening value has risen another point. But it’s not too bad, it’s at 9.3 now!】

Bian Tuo’s escape probably stimulated the increase in the female lead’s blackening value.

Wen Nuan returned to her room and lay weakly on the bed, thinking about what Xi Chen had said.

Jiang Yichuan was worried about an Omega, worried to the point where she would sacrifice her life for them.

An intense, bone-chilling pain suddenly surged through her. Her mental energy and perceptual ability were in utter chaos—a side effect of forcibly halting her alpha susceptibility period.

Her brain felt like it was being stabbed and churned by thousands of fine needles, the dense pain making it hard to breathe.

But the ache spreading from her heart was what she truly couldn’t bear. Wen Nuan clutched the fabric over her chest, curling her body into a hunched, contorted ball.

A roar of pain and struggle, like that of a caged beast, tore from her throat. “Ahhhhhhh….”

The soul-deep, bone-drilling pain was unbearable. Her face was deathly pale, her eyes vacant. In her blurry vision, the figure of Jiang Yichuan seemed to appear.

Wen Nuan laboriously reached out a hand, wanting to touch her, her five fingers stretched straight, her fingertips trembling.

Her voice was low and hoarse, her tone utterly aggrieved.

“Do you like her that much…”

…that Omega?

As soon as the six returned to the hotel, they packed up and immediately piloted their aircraft off the Third System’s Planet Hertz.

Jiang Yichuan stood by a window, watching the river of stars twinkle outside the aircraft.

“Still worried about Mu Wen Nuan?” Xi Chen, assuming Jiang Yichuan was still thinking about her, tried to comfort her. “Have faith in Teacher Chaoyang. She’ll bring both Mu Wen Nuan and the manuscript back.”

Jiang Yichuan snapped back to reality and nodded slowly. “…Yeah.”

She didn’t dare admit that the image lingering in her mind, from the moment she left the auction house until now, had been of that damn pervert.

Those eyes, as gentle as water, and the emotions within them… she could understand some of them now, but she couldn’t believe those emotions had been directed at her.

Gentleness, attachment, nostalgia, doting affection, reluctance… and even sorrow and pain…

Jiang Yichuan closed her eyes, trying to erase the fragments from her mind, but she could still see the blood on the corner of that person’s mouth.

It was crimson and vivid, like a rose in full bloom, impossible to ignore or forget.

Jiang Yichuan couldn’t help but wonder: I wonder if that pervert will be… alright?
