When the Female Lead Becomes Obsessive – Chapter 170

Volume Eight: Those Years When I Was an Alpha

Mu Wen Nuan

“Fuck!”

Wen Nuan collapsed weakly to the ground. Her susceptibility period had unexpectedly erupted at this very moment.

She felt the restless turmoil surging within her body. Her pheromones began to fall into disarray, and the rose fragrance emanating from her attracted all the nearby omegas, alphas, and betas.

It was a strange phenomenon; her pheromones not only attracted omegas but alphas as well. The most significant issue was that even betas could smell her pheromones, which was simply a bug-like existence.

At the time, the System had explained that this was a ‘ten thousand person fan’1 attribute.

Now, as Wen Nuan looked at the few people trying to approach her, she just wanted to curse in her heart: To hell with being a ‘ten thousand person fan’!

“This alpha’s pheromones smell so good.”

Several omegas had already been tempted into a premature heat.

“I can actually smell her pheromones?!”

A beta stared at Wen Nuan in disbelief, even sniffing the air fiercely like someone taking a drug, revealing a look of satiated pleasure.

“Our pheromones aren’t repelling each other?” an alpha looked at Wen Nuan in amazement, eyeing her up and down with ill intent. “I just wonder if an alpha can be marked?”

“Scram if you don’t want to die!” Wen Nuan’s eyes were bloodshot as she stared at the crowd surrounding her.

“Still acting so fierce during your susceptibility period?” A flicker of interest crossed the alpha’s eyes, his expression greedy. “I’ve never tasted an alpha before. I wonder if you taste any good?”

The beta was a little intimidated by the alpha. “You go first. We’ll join in after you’re done.”

“Hmph, you guys can play with those omegas first,” the alpha said as she walked toward Wen Nuan, looking at the mask on her face. “Still wearing a mask. Are you too ugly?”

“But it’s fine. Seeing as your pheromones are so sweet, I can force myself to play with you,” the alpha gave a sleazy smile and reached out to remove the mask from Wen Nuan’s face.

The beta had already started messing around with the omegas but noticed there was no movement from the alpha’s direction. They spared a glance and their eyes instantly widened.

A long saber had pierced straight through the alpha’s chest, dripping with blood.

They froze on the spot, watching as the alpha, who was clearly in her susceptibility period, pulled out the long saber, kicked the dead alpha aside, and slowly walked toward them.

The sharp tip of the blade scraped dust from the ground. Blood slid from the edge, and the body of the blade glinted, emitting a cold, harsh fluorescence in everyone’s eyes.

The beta was dumbfounded, his voice turning dry. He stammered, “…Chao… Chaoyang?!”

The pattern on the blade was all too familiar to them. The distorted sun, gleaming with a cold light, became the last sight they saw before they died.

An alpha’s susceptibility period needs to be soothed by an omega whose pheromones have a high degree of compatibility with their own. Otherwise, the alpha will become abnormally frenzied. They will feel insecure, attack others, have all their emotions amplified, and their mental and sensory faculties will fall into chaos.

The higher an alpha’s rank, the more difficult it is to get through a susceptibility period, just as a higher-ranked omega will suffer more painfully during their heat period.

The onset of a susceptibility period wasn’t about pain, but about a violent, uncontrollable surge of desire. Therefore, the System couldn’t provide Wen Nuan with a pain-blocking function. It could only watch as Wen Nuan hid in her room, enduring it and relying on her self-control to resist the torment and influence of the susceptibility period.

Wen Nuan took out a dozen injections from her storage pouch and administered them one by one into her body. She could feel the turmoil inside her subside slightly; at the very least, she could catch her breath.

The leakage of her pheromones was also brought under control.

【Are you feeling better?】the System asked, seeing that Wen Nuan still looked to be in great pain.【Why don’t you take a few more blocker2 and suppressant injections?】

Blocker injections were for alphas and omegas whose pheromones had already leaked, their function being to mask the pheromones’ diffusion so others couldn’t detect them.

Suppressant injections, on the other hand, directly inhibited the leakage of pheromones, controlling the outbreak from the source, providing an early warning for early control.

Suppressant patches3 and blocker patches had similar functions.

Medicines for suppression and blocking were used by both alphas and omegas. There were many types with varying efficacy; the better the effect, the more expensive the price. The blocker injections Wen Nuan had just used were the most effective kind, but for an alpha like her who had already surpassed S-rank, the medicinal effect wouldn’t be very strong, providing only a slight benefit.

“Taking too many is bad.”

Blocker patches and suppressant patches were physical defenses and didn’t have a significant impact on the body and mind, so their effects were naturally weaker than injections.

And while suppressant and blocker injections were more effective, they would cause some unavoidable effects on the body and mind. After all, medicine is three parts poison4.

The System said worriedly: 【If it’s too hard to bear, why don’t you find an omega to help you relieve it?】

“…” Wen Nuan took a few breaths. “No need. I can handle it.”

【Then go find the female lead.】

Wen Nuan gritted her teeth, panting heavily. “System, I won’t… hurt her… during my susceptibility period.”

She would be afraid.

When an alpha is in their susceptibility period, their emotions become extremely agitated, and their pheromones are in a constant state of eruption, making it very easy to harm an omega.

The System pursed its lips: 【Forget it. You do what you think is best.】

It believed Wen Nuan could get through it, but it couldn’t bear to see her in so much pain.

Wen Nuan lay on the bed, curled up, her lips bitten and bleeding. Her crimson eyes gradually became dazed and vacant.

Xi Chen walked out of his room and saw Jiang Yichuan coming upstairs. “You’re back? Where did you go?”

Jiang Yichuan said, “Nearby.”

“You…” Xi Chen said quizzically as Jiang Yichuan looked over. “Did you run into something amusing?”

Jiang Yichuan was taken aback. “What about me?”

Xi Chen pointed to the corner of her mouth. “You were smiling.”

“…” Jiang Yichuan pulled her lips down into a flat line and said calmly, “You saw wrong.”

Xi Chen watched Jiang Yichuan walk into her room, her retreating figure looking somewhat flustered.

He hadn’t seen wrong, had he?

She was clearly smiling, wasn’t she?

Jiang Yichuan entered her room, locked the door, and raised a hand to touch the corner of her mouth.

Was she really smiling just now?

Jiang Yichuan’s gaze fell on the trash can beside the bed. She walked over and picked up the rose petal from inside.

The petal was somewhat damaged, split down the middle. Its color was no longer vibrant and was slowly turning black as it rotted.

If it had been preserved well, this petal could have at least survived a while longer.

What a pity.

Jiang Yichuan crushed the petal in her palm and tossed it out the window, where it was swept away by the wind and disappeared.

Flowers wither, and people die, don’t they?

Duobang City Auction House.

The inside and outside were a difference like that between heaven and earth. The exterior was dilapidated, but the interior was another cave heaven5, golden and jade-like in its brilliance.

The auction house had a circular structure, with the audience seated around a display stage. Four monitors directly above the stage simultaneously broadcasted the auction items.

Each audience member had an exclusive bidding device corresponding to their auction number. If they saw an item they liked, they could press the button on the device to bid.

The highest bidder wins.

Once goods were sold, no responsibility would be taken. The auction house would not handle any subsequent issues. If you bought a fake or were ambushed and killed for your item after the auction, you could only count yourself unlucky, deserving of such a fate.

The audience seating had a total of eight levels, holding nearly ten thousand people. The jumbled and chaotic pheromones of everyone mixed together like a chaotic hodgepodge stew, nauseating to look at and disgusting to smell.

“Jiang Yichuan, quick, let me use your Mist Absorber6 again. I’m about to be suffocated to death.” Quan Yang’s face was pale green, on the verge of collapse, looking like he wanted to vomit but couldn’t.

Jiang Yichuan tossed the Mist Absorber to him.

Chu Luo looked at Quan Yang’s half-dead appearance and said helplessly, “I told you not to skip the pheromone interference tests. Now you know how it feels, huh?”

“You’re still lecturing me?” Quan Yang pointed at the Shi Yaqi siblings. “They’re not doing so well either.”

“The pheromones here are too chaotic. You all need to be careful not to be completely overwhelmed,” Xi Chen said, vigilantly observing their surroundings. “This auction definitely won’t proceed peacefully.”

The feeling that wind and rain were about to come7 was too strong. They all sensed that this auction house was not as simple as it appeared on the surface.

The water was certainly very deep8.

Suddenly, a commotion erupted ahead. The group looked over and saw a party of five entering through the main gate and sitting in the seats closest to the stage. Four of them wore identical attire: black clothes covering their bodies, with a giant skull pattern on the back. Its blood-red eyes stared at them, causing an unprovoked chill to rise in people’s hearts.

“The Evil Ghost are here,” Xi Chen said with a grave expression, looking at the blond man seated in the very center. “That’s Bian Tuo.”

That unique head of golden hair, one hand propping up his chin, his right index and pinky fingers adorned with sharp, profound silver armor guards9 that reflected a dazzling, cold light from the auction house’s lighting.

Nearly all eyes in the venue were focused on the Evil Ghost Bandit Group. Xi Chen and his group could use the cover of others’ probing gazes to secretly observe the Evil Ghost leader, Bian Tuo.

Bian Tuo, an S-rank Omega. Judging by his looks and build alone, he greatly resembled a student still in school—handsome and elegant, with a tall and straight posture. But that pair of unique phoenix eyes10 added a trace of seductive charm. When he looked up at people, he was clearly smiling and appeared gentle and refined, yet his gaze was as cold as a biting wind.

An alpha who passed by glanced at Bian Tuo for an extra moment and was immediately killed by one of his men with a slash to the throat. The attack was ruthless and without mercy. The spurting blood made the people in the front row gasp in fear, and everyone present quickly averted their eyes, not daring to look at Bian Tuo.

Bian Tuo looked at the corpse and smiled faintly. “Filthy.”

The person beside him immediately stood up, grabbed the body, and left the audience area, only returning a short while later.

“Legend says Bian Tuo hates alphas. That alpha just now was killed by his subordinate for just looking at him. So why is he surrounded by alphas?” Quan Yang scratched his head, confused. “Isn’t that striking one’s own spear with one’s own shield?”11

Chu Luo mused, “Even if he despises alphas, he has to admit that in some respects, he needs them.”

Just like a moment ago, Bian Tuo could have acted himself, but he found it filthy, so his alpha subordinate would step in and take care of it for him.

“Bian Tuo is a ruthless character. Be careful,” Xi Chen said.

Shi Yaqi looked around and asked worriedly, “Do you think Teacher Chaoyang is here?”

“She should be. The leader of the Evil Ghost has shown up, how could Teacher Chaoyang not appear?” Quan Yang scanned the entire venue but didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. “Teacher Chaoyang must be hiding among the audience.”

“The auction is starting,” Shi Jiayang said, taking out the mecha loader12 from around his neck. “Get ready.”

The others also gripped their mecha loaders in their hands, ready for anything.

“Welcome, everyone, to the Duobang City auction! Without further ado, let’s begin the thrilling and exciting auction,” the Beta host shouted with excitement. “Come on, let me see your enthusiasm, let me hear you scream—”

“Ahhh—”

“Awooo—”

Everyone in the auction house roared along with the Beta host’s request.

The Beta host smiled in satisfaction and pressed a button for the lifting platform. “First, let’s take a look at our first auction item…”

A lifting platform rose from the center of the stage. On it was a giant golden cage, inside which a woman sat slumped, head down, her state of life unknown.

The Beta host took out an injection and administered it directly to this Omega. The next second, the Omega suddenly trembled all over, her fair skin instantly flushing red. A large amount of pheromones emanated from her glands, stimulating the senses and desires of everyone present.

The Beta was very satisfied with the audience’s reaction. He raised the woman’s face. “A woman who was converted from an S-rank alpha to an S-rank Omega. Her pheromones are smoked rose, and most importantly, she was once a student at the First Military Academy of Planet Tofis. I’m sure you’ve all seen this woman’s information on the wanted list.”

“She is the First Military Academy’s… Mu Wen Nuan!”

The author has something to say:

Wen Nuan: Huh? Then who am I?
