When the Female Lead Becomes Obsessive – Chapter 141

Volume Seven: The Years I Was a General

Never a Defeated Battle

Who could have thought that the young War God, Gu Wen Nuan, was actually a woman!?

Ye Mingxiu was already shocked to the point of speechlessness. Only after a long time did he find his voice again.

“Are you really a woman?” he confirmed again and again. “Gu Wen Nuan, you can’t just spout nonsense about such matters.”

For Wen Nuan’s explanation just now, Ye Mingxiu could still think of a way to plead before the Emperor to save her life. But if Gu Wen Nuan was a woman, then she would undoubtedly die.

Colluding with the enemy and betraying the country was a crime one wishes to impose1, but this act of a woman disguising herself as a man, deceiving Emperor Chongming and the current Emperor in succession, was a major crime of deceiving the sovereign. It was something that required beheading and the extermination of the nine relations2.

Wen Nuan looked towards her own chest. “You can come and confirm it yourself, to see if I am spouting nonsense.”

Ye Mingxiu took a few steps forward, the tops of his shoes already soaked by the filthy water, but he stopped and did not advance. He said with difficulty, “Why… did you have to say it?”

If she hadn’t said it, he would still have a way to save her.

Since she had already hidden it so perfectly, why not continue to hide it well?

Wen Nuan did not look at Ye Mingxiu, but instead turned her head to look behind him and smiled, “It was already the crime of deceiving the sovereign. I don’t want to add another crime on top of that. A confession brings leniency. I wonder if the Emperor can give this insignificant subject3 a quick way to die?”

That Wen Nuan could sense the Emperor was not surprising to Ye Mingxiu. After all, with Wen Nuan’s capabilities, it was to be expected.

The sound of light and slow footsteps echoed in the water prison. Ye Mingxiu retreated to one side. Wen Nuan watched as that slender figure slowly revealed herself from the darkness.

Xiao Chuyu4 was dressed in golden-yellow lingluo5. Embroidered on the surface of the fine silk were four-clawed dragons6 and scrolling cloud patterns, her perfect figure displayed without a doubt.

Her eyes were as clear as water, yet they carried a bone-chilling coldness. A pair of vermilion lips held a smile, a smile that seeped with coolness: “Gu Wen Nuan, do you just love seeking your own death like this?”

Wen Nuan moved her wrists, making the iron chains clank repeatedly. She said innocently, “It is regrettable, this insignificant subject cannot bow to Your Majesty. I hope Your Majesty will be magnanimous.”

Xiao Chuyu raised her eyes: “Zhen7, what if Zhen is not magnanimous?”

Wen Nuan smiled, “Then there’s nothing to be done. This insignificant subject has already been sentenced to death by Your Majesty. Why not wait until after this insignificant subject dies, and Your Majesty can grind this insignificant subject’s bones to dust to vent the hatred in your heart?”

When Ye Mingxiu heard her words, his brows immediately furrowed. He looked at Wen Nuan with a warning, trying to persuade her not to spout nonsense and anger the Emperor.

Xiao Chuyu looked at Wen Nuan, who was just as she had been in the beginning. That bright smile was still as brilliant as the sun, as if she were standing under the morning sun and not in this cold, damp, and foul-smelling water prison.

Her smile faded. “This temperament of yours really hasn’t changed much. Still self-righteously aloof, not knowing life from death.”

“Doesn’t Your Majesty just like this temperament of this insignificant subject?” Wen Nuan’s lips curled into a smile. “This insignificant subject deliberately did not change it, still just as before, thinking whether I could gain some favor before Your Majesty.”

The more Ye Mingxiu listened, the more he felt that Gu Wen Nuan was simply seeking her own death, afraid that she wouldn’t die, constantly provoking the Emperor to anger.

Xiao Chuyu looked at the wounds on Wen Nuan’s body. “Favor? How do you plan to gain favor before Zhen?”

“Simple,” Wen Nuan blew a breath upwards, blowing away the hair blocking her vision, a roguish smile on her lips. “This insignificant subject plans to use a beauty trap. What does Your Majesty think?”

Ye Mingxiu: “….”

“…..” Xiao Chuyu laughed with anger, her low laughter carrying coldness and ridicule.

Her gaze fell on Wen Nuan’s chest. “Since you are a woman, yet you want to use a beauty trap on Zhen, who is also a woman, I’m afraid Little General Gu has gone mad?”

“Your Majesty thinks it’s not possible?”

“Do you think, with your current broken-down appearance as a prisoner under the steps8, you can use a beauty trap on Zhen?”

The ridicule in her eyes was obvious. “Gu Wen Nuan, can you have a little self-awareness, please?”

“Your Majesty doesn’t believe it?” Wen Nuan raised an eyebrow at her. “Why not give it a try?”

Xiao Chuyu stared fixedly at Wen Nuan and was silent for a long time. Just when Ye Mingxiu thought Xiao Chuyu would refuse Wen Nuan’s proposal, he heard her ask, “…Try what?”

Ye Mingxiu felt that it was not suitable for him to stay here any longer. He bowed and said, “Your Majesty, why doesn’t this insignificant subject take his leave first and wait for you outside the prison?”

Wen Nuan looked at Ye Mingxiu with appreciation. This male lead was really perceptive.

Xiao Chuyu did not glance at Ye Mingxiu, merely waving her hand to let him leave.

Before leaving, Ye Mingxiu shot a glare at Wen Nuan, telling her to watch herself.

Wen Nuan was baffled by the glare. She twitched her nose and looked at Xiao Chuyu. “Let’s make a bet. If Your Majesty has no old feelings for me, even if you have this insignificant subject’s bones ground to dust or torn apart by five horses9 tomorrow, this insignificant subject will obey your command. If Your Majesty still has a trace of pity for this insignificant subject, why not give this insignificant subject a chance.”

Xiao Chuyu did not interrupt Wen Nuan’s words. When she heard Wen Nuan say she had a trace of pity for her, her brow furrowed slightly.

“A chance?” she said faintly. “What chance do you want?”

“This insignificant subject has already been sentenced by Your Majesty’s edict to be beheaded after autumn. There are still six months until autumn. This insignificant subject does not want to stay in the zhaoyu anymore. This insignificant subject wants a clean palace hall, to quietly and comfortably wait for the beheading after autumn. Is that possible?”

“Why… don’t you ask Zhen to release you?” Xiao Chuyu really thought Wen Nuan would take the opportunity to ask her to let her go and absolve her of her crimes.

“No need,” Wen Nuan looked at Xiao Chuyu, the gentleness and nostalgia in her eyes too clear, making Xiao Chuyu’s heart tremble at the sight.

Her voice was soft and gentle: “Chuchu, it was I who wronged you. I truly deserve to die.”

Chuchu, the pet name exclusively used by Gu Wen Nuan to call Xiao Chuyu.

Not even Xiao Chuyu’s mother, Empress Xianren, had ever called Xiao Chuyu so intimately.

Xiao Chuyu’s hand hanging by her side suddenly clenched tightly. Her pupils trembled slightly, and the voice that came out carried a trace of a tremor as she reprimanded, “…Audacious!”

Wen Nuan chuckled lightly. “That I am audacious enough to wrap the sky10, isn’t that something Chuchu has known for a long time?”

She seemed to think of something amusing. “I beat the favored Fifth Prince, smashed the parrot that Consort An11 painstakingly raised, and even deliberately made a fool of myself at the Former Emperor’s birthday banquet, causing all the officials to laugh at my father for his inability to discipline me. I was even beaten with thirty disciplinary whips by my father, and while lying on my bed, I was still grinning cheekily. My father got angry and directly grounded me.”

“When Chuchu says I’m audacious, are you praising me for being brave?”

Seeing her smug look, Xiao Chuyu’s anger flared up from nowhere. “Gu Wen Nuan, you….”

Seeing that Xiao Chuyu was angered by her, Wen Nuan stretched out her hands towards her, her voice weak, calling out to her listlessly, “Chuchu?”

Hearing her such weak voice, Xiao Chuyu did not respond immediately, merely looking at her in silence.

“Chuchu, come over. I want to hug you, okay?”

Xiao Chuyu looked at Wen Nuan in disbelief.

Wen Nuan paid no mind to Xiao Chuyu’s current expression and continued, “Chuchu, I’m so tired. I want to hold you and sleep for a while, just like back then, okay?”

Xiao Chuyu did not move. Wen Nuan was not anxious either, just holding her hands open like that, quietly waiting for her to come.

【Will she come?】 The System was a bit apprehensive. 【Even if she does come, I suspect she’s coming to stab you.】

At this moment, Xiao Chuyu’s face was as black as ink, as gloomy as ice. She looked particularly intimidating.

She looked like a barrel of gunpowder about to explode.

Wen Nuan was very confident: “She will come. Not to stab me, but to hug me.”

【So certain, how could I….】

The System suddenly stopped its question. It watched in astonishment as Xiao Chuyu slowly walked towards Wen Nuan. She paid no mind to the filthy and foul-smelling water in the water prison. She walked down the steps, and even though the filthy water stained her magnificent clothes, Xiao Chuyu did not stop.

She approached Wen Nuan, stopped by her hands, and when she looked at Wen Nuan, various emotions churned and surged in her eyes. Finally, she lifted her foot and walked into her embrace.

Wen Nuan held Xiao Chuyu tightly, letting out a breath of relief as if in gratitude. “Chuchu, have you been well these past three years?”

Xiao Chuyu felt her scorching embrace, the undeniable restraint around her waist. By her ear was her panting breath, the warm air dyeing her earlobe red.

She lowered her eyes and said in a low, hoarse voice, “Not well.”

These past three years, she had not lived well at all. Day and night, she was consumed by hatred and sorrow. At every moment, she wanted to go to Mobei and viciously slaughter Gu Wen Nuan.

“I’m sorry. It was I who wronged you,” Wen Nuan gently stroked her back, apologizing.

Xiao Chuyu blinked and said coldly, “It’s too late.”

“It’s not late. To be able to see you and hold you before I die, nothing is too late.”

Xiao Chuyu’s heart inexplicably sped up. Her brows furrowed tightly, and her expression suddenly darkened. “Gu Wen Nuan, a person like you deserves to die.”

Wen Nuan smiled. “Mm-hmm, I deserve to die.”

She nuzzled Xiao Chuyu’s neck. “To die at Chuchu’s hands, I will die without regrets.”

A mouthful of foul air was stuck in her chest. Xiao Chuyu wanted to push Wen Nuan away but was held even more forcefully by her.

She was exasperated and roared in a low voice, “Let go of Zhen!”

“I won’t,” Wen Nuan played the rogue. “I haven’t hugged you enough. I won’t let go.”

Xiao Chuyu was so angered by her roguish behavior that her face turned red and her neck swelled. “Gu Wen Nuan, if you don’t let go, Zhen will kill you now.”

Wen Nuan shook her head, acting very much like a scoundrel. “To die beneath a peony flower, even as a ghost one is dashing12.”

“Don’t you force Zhen!” Xiao Chuyu’s eyes showed a fierce light as she said through gritted teeth.

“I’m not forcing you, I’m just….” The wound on her abdomen was viciously torn open. Wen Nuan sucked in a breath of cold air and held the person in her arms even tighter.

She panted heavily, nibbling on Xiao Chuyu’s earlobe, and teased, “This little strength of yours still hasn’t changed. Use a little more force, I’m not afraid of pain.”

Her fingers were sticky. The rusty smell of blood lingered at the tips of their noses.

Xiao Chuyu pulled her hand out and said with contempt, “Gu Wen Nuan, are you shameless or what?”

“Only shameless towards you, how about that?” Wen Nuan said, shamelessly pestering her.

Xiao Chuyu: “….”

She was mentally exhausted and didn’t want to engage in banter13 with Wen Nuan. She said, as if compromising, “You’ve hugged me, you’ve asked your irrelevant greetings, what else do you want to do?”

Wen Nuan sighed and released her.

This sigh made Xiao Chuyu’s heart sink.

“Chuchu, I’ve missed you very much these past three years,” Wen Nuan’s gaze was focused, a faint persistence flashing in the depths of her eyes. “I’ve especially missed you. Have you missed me?”

An indescribable sense of grievance welled up in Xiao Chuyu. Her eyes inexplicably stung, but her tone was still laced with coldness and mockery. “I’ve missed you dying!”

“Good,” Wen Nuan’s right hand suddenly clasped the back of Xiao Chuyu’s head, and her left hand wrapped around her waist.

She pressed close, her lips and tongue forcefully and powerfully breaking through her shock. “I’ll die for you to see.”

You are the medicine that cures me to the bone, and also the poison that makes me sink into depravity.

Xiao Chuyu’s eyes widened, feeling the powerful invasion in her mouth. She struggled to push her away, but Wen Nuan fought more valiantly the more she battled, directly smashing the yellow dragon’s lair14.

Just as the rumors said, the young general, campaigning on the battlefield, became more valiant with each battle, ever victorious.

Gu Wen Nuan had never a defeated battle. It was so on the battlefield, and it is so now.
