When the Female Lead Becomes Obsessive – Chapter 123

Volume Six: The Years I Wasn’t Human

Immortal Body

Jingdu received the research data on the H-agent and the distress signal transmitted by An Min, and immediately dispatched a plane to pick them up.

The group came to the location where the plane had landed at that time to wait for the aircraft rescue.

Everyone spontaneously formed a circle around An Min and Wen Nuan, vigilant of all movement in their surroundings.

The plane approached from a distance and hovered in mid-air. Just as it was about to lower the rope ladder, the pilot in the cockpit saw a horde of zombies rushing over from afar and shouted in terror, “Captain Chu! There’s a zombie tide, numbering over a thousand! Zombies are rushing over from all four directions: east, south, west, and north.”

“Lower the rope ladder, let the Doctor go up first.” Chu Han glanced at Sang Er, about to say something.

Sang Er looked at the descending rope ladder and said to Wen Nuan, “You and the Doctor go up first. Mu Xuan and Zhong Wenshu, you go up too. Chu Han and I are here, we can handle it.”

Wen Nuan naturally trusted the strength of the male and female leads. “Okay, be careful.”

Chu Han and Sang Er each stood at one end, watching the zombies run out from the mountain forest. They were a dense, crawling mass, their bloody maws1 wide open as they shrieked and charged at them.

Chu Han pressed his palms down, and a huge electric net was instantly woven, pressing the zombies beneath it. Wisps of electric current instantly annihilated the zombies completely.

In the next second, giant fireballs fell from the sky like a massive meteor shower, smashing densely into the zombie tide. Thousands of zombies were scorched by the raging flames, and their heart-wrenching2 howls made the gloomy sky seem even more eerie and terrifying.

The people on the plane looked down to see the mountain forest and grassland resembling a sea of fire, with lightning flashing and heatwaves surging.

Zhong Wenshu lowered the rope ladder. “Chu-ge, Sang-jie, hurry up and come on.”

Sang Er lowered her hands and looked at the zombie lying prone at her feet. Half of its body had already been burned away by the fire, yet it still opened its mouth wide, wanting to bite Sang Er.

Sang Er’s eyes were chilling. She raised her foot and stepped on the zombie’s head, watching it squirm under her foot.

She applied force with her foot. With a “crack,” the zombie’s head was crushed into pieces by her. She spat, “Trash.”

“Sang Er, let’s go,” Chu Han called out as he climbed the rope ladder.

The propeller spun rapidly. Sang Er grabbed the rope ladder and climbed onto the plane after Chu Han. The pilot immediately closed the cabin door, and the plane made a turn in the sky, leaving the mountain of fire behind.

Everyone in the cabin let out a sigh of relief, their tense bodies and minds finally relaxing.

Sang Er sat next to Wen Nuan, looking at the hand she had placed to one side.

She desperately wanted to hold her hand, to feel her reality.

Suddenly, that hand came before her.

Sang Er looked at Wen Nuan with a bewildered expression. “Hm?”

Wen Nuan wiggled her hand. “Want to touch it?”

“Hm?” Sang Er’s heart skipped a beat.

“To see if I’m really still alive?”

“…Okay.” Sang Er carefully took Wen Nuan’s hand, not daring to squeeze it hard.

Warm, soft, delicate.

This was Wen Nuan’s hand, still fresh and alive with warmth.

“This is so good.”

Wen Nuan looked at her. “What is?”

The corners of Sang Er’s eyes reddened as she looked at Wen Nuan. “That you’re still alive, it’s so good.”

She didn’t care what Wen Nuan was at this moment—whether she was human, a zombie, or a monster—as long as Wen Nuan could be alive in front of her.

Able to speak, able to smile, able to let her feel her warmth, then everything was good.

“Little Ears, don’t cry,” Wen Nuan wiped away the tear at the corner of her eye. “Your eyes are all swollen from crying.”

Little Ears was the special name Wen Nuan always called her. Anyone who knew Sang Er knew that this name, Little Ears, could only be spoken by one person.

And that was Lin Wen Nuan.

Every time Sang Er heard Wen Nuan call her Little Ears, her heart would leap with joy. She felt this name was very intimate, and she liked being more intimate with Wen Nuan.

She looked at their clasped hands, thinking to herself that it would be nice if they could be even more intimate.

An Min turned his head, looked at Wen Nuan, and extended his hand. “Miss Lin, hello, I am An Min.”

Wen Nuan lightly squeezed An Min’s fingertips. “Hello, Doctor An Min. I’ve long heard of your great name.”

After all, he was the savior of this mission world. The end of the apocalypse depended on him.

“I heard that Miss Lin self-detonated along with the Zombie King back then, which was how Sang Er and Chu Han were able to send the data back to Jingdu, is that right?” An Min mercilessly tore open the rift between Sang Er and Chu Han, exposing the bloody wound within.

Sang Er raised a hand to shield Wen Nuan behind her, glaring at An Min. “What are you trying to do?”

An Min paid no mind to Sang Er’s vigilance and threats, looking directly at Wen Nuan. “I am very curious about you, Miss Lin.”

“You fucking…”

Wen Nuan pushed Sang Er down and looked at An Min with a faint smile. “I am also very curious about you, Doctor An Min.”

An Min raised an eyebrow. “Curious about what?”

“How does Doctor An Min resist his splitting headaches?”

An Min was the only ability user with brain-domain development3. Such an ability user would develop their brain infinitely, and their IQ had clearly surpassed the highest level of human beings.

Such a brain was like the vast universe, and the knowledge stored within it was like the boundless sea of stars in the cosmos.

But such an ability also had a drawback, which was headaches. When the pain started, the head was like a bomb about to explode, one that could blow oneself to smithereens at any moment.

An Min’s eyelashes trembled, a trace of astonishment flashing in his eyes. “How did Miss Lin figure that out?”

Wen Nuan didn’t answer his question directly, instead looking at his head. “It still hurts now, right?”

“Yes.”

An Min admitted that he had indeed been having headaches for the past few days, but they were tolerable.

“Give me your hand,” Wen Nuan extended her hand toward him. “Place it on my hand.”

An Min, without any doubt, placed his hand on Wen Nuan’s palm. “You want to….”

He suddenly froze, looking at Wen Nuan in disbelief.

The pain in his head was instantly relieved, as if he were lying on a layer of soft clouds, comfortable and soothed.

Wen Nuan withdrew her hand and smiled smugly. “How does it feel?”

A sharp light flashed in An Min’s eyes, and he smiled. “It feels… very good. How did you do that?”

“I’m a healing-type ability user. I can solve a little pain like this.”

An Min touched his head. Even though Wen Nuan was no longer touching him, the pain in his head still hadn’t returned.

A healing-type ability user was truly formidable.

However, he was even more curious about Wen Nuan herself.

An Min extended his hand toward Chu Han. “Let me borrow your knife.”

Chu Han didn’t understand An Min’s meaning, but he still handed the knife to An Min. “Here you go.”

An Min flicked his wrist, pressing the knife against Wen Nuan’s chest.

Everyone was horrified.

Chu Han quickly tried to stop him. “Doctor, what are you…?”

“You’re courting death!” Sang Er gathered fire in her palm, and just as she was about to strike An Min, her wrist was grabbed by Wen Nuan.

She shook her head. “It’s fine. Doctor An Min is just playing around with me.”

Sang Er said in shock, “This is playing around?”

The blade was already pressed against the location of Wen Nuan’s heart. With just a slight push from An Min, the knife would be plunged fiercely into Wen Nuan’s chest.

She would lose Wen Nuan once again.

Absolutely not!

She absolutely could not lose Wen Nuan again.

“An Min, put the knife down for me, or I’ll burn you to death,” Sang Er said through gritted teeth.

“You have an immortal body, right?” An Min did not lower the knife, still pressing it against Wen Nuan’s chest.

Wen Nuan was not surprised that An Min could guess her situation. “Mm, as long as my consciousness remains, I can be reborn again, even if I’m torn apart by five horses4.”

Everyone looked at Wen Nuan in horror.

“What do you mean?” Zhong Wenshu asked, not understanding. “What’s an immortal body?”

Chu Han roughly understood Wen Nuan’s words. “You’re saying that when you self-detonated with the Zombie King back then, your consciousness still existed, so you were able to be reborn.”

Wen Nuan nodded. “Correct.”

Sang Er asked hurriedly, “Then does that mean you’ll never die?”

Wen Nuan pondered for a moment. “I suppose so.”

Sang Er was ecstatic. “That’s wonderful.”

Wen Nuan would never die. She wouldn’t have to experience the heartache of losing Wen Nuan again.

“Never die?” Mu Xuan murmured. “Isn’t that a zombie?”

Zhong Wenshu said, “Zombies can die too, but Miss Lin is the truly immortal one.”

He looked at An Min. “Doctor, how did you discover this?”

An Min lowered the knife, returned it to Chu Han, and looked at the ball of fire by his face. “Miss Sang, please put it away.”

Seeing that he had lowered the knife, Sang Er retracted the fire. “If you dare to lay a hand on Wen Nuan again, I’ll burn you to cinders.”

An Min sat down and said faintly, “The Zombie Emperor in the experimental zone was killed by Miss Lin, wasn’t it?”

Wen Nuan pulled Sang Er back to her seat. “Mm, I killed it.”

“Was it that head?” Chu Han thought of the head that had rolled to his feet at that time.

“Mm.”

An Min looked at Wen Nuan. “How did you kill it, Miss Lin?”

“I have an immortal body, but it doesn’t. So it couldn’t outlast me.”

An Min smiled upon hearing this. “Miss Lin is very formidable.”

“You’re too kind, you’re too kind,” Wen Nuan said with a modest smile. “Doctor An Min is the formidable one. After all, we’re still counting on you to save the world.”

Zhong Wenshu raised his hand, looking a bit puzzled. “Doctor, you said at the time that the Zombie Emperor already existed in the experimental zone before the side effects of the H-agent had completely broken out?”

“Mm,” An Min lowered his eyes. “At that time, the side effects of the H-agent had already appeared.”

For every potion that is developed, volunteers are sought to test the drug.

Test Subject No. 1 was the only one who fully manifested the side effects of the H-agent. It drove all the scientific researchers mad, because they discovered that even if a human turned into a zombie, as long as its level was high enough, its spiritual consciousness would become increasingly strong, and in time, it would become an ageless, immortal, and very powerful existence.

But such a powerful existence also had a drawback, and that was its head.

To control No. 1, the researchers implanted an explosive chip in its brain, to be used to control No. 1 at any time and prevent it from rioting.

“Is it this?” Wen Nuan took a fingernail-sized object out of her pocket.

An Min took it and looked at it. “Mm, this is the explosive chip. How did you get it?”

Wen Nuan said casually, “I opened up the Zombie Emperor’s head.”

Everyone: “…..”

Without needing to think about it in detail, that scene must have been very bloody and terrifying.

Sang Er’s eyes shone brightly. She gave Wen Nuan a thumbs-up. “So formidable.”

In the past, her biggest worry was that Wen Nuan had no ability to protect herself. Now that she could single-handedly tear apart a Zombie Emperor, Sang Er felt it was wonderful.

Wen Nuan raised her hand and stroked Sang Er’s hair. She squinted her eyes and nuzzled against her palm, like a little cat seeking affection.

Chu Han glanced at Wen Nuan and asked An Min, “Then what’s the deal with Wen Nuan’s immortal body? Do you know, Doctor?”

An Min pushed up his glasses and smiled calmly. “Miss Lin’s immortal body is, perhaps, the most perfect medicinal effect that the true H-agent was supposed to exhibit.”
