When the Female Lead Becomes Obsessive – Chapter 1

Volume One: Those Years I Was a CEO

Points Frozen

【Baijie Task complete. Calculating Points. Tasker S19950101, please wait a moment.】 The Main System’s icy voice echoed in Wen Nuan’s [溫暖 | Wēn Nuǎn] mind. All business.

Wen Nuan sat on the pure white steps, which, though appearing to be made of white jade, were not as cold as they looked, radiating a gentle warmth.

After a while, the Main System’s frigid, mechanical voice announced: 【Tasker S19950101, all Points have been frozen due to an unknown cause. Calculation, withdrawal, and exchange are currently unavailable. Please investigate the cause of the malfunction as soon as possible!!!】

Wen Nuan exclaimed in shock, “My Points are frozen? What the hell?!”

The Main System was silent for a moment: 【Unable to determine the cause. Tasker S19950101, please investigate the cause of the malfunction as soon as possible!】

Unable to determine the cause?! Were they kidding her?

Wen Nuan frowned, irritated. “My Points being frozen… is it that dog Yan Hui’s [燕茴 | Yàn Huí] doing?”

The Main System’s mechanical voice trembled slightly: 【Tasker S19950101, you must not slander the Lord’s reputation!】

Wen Nuan: “…”

Sh*t! She’d forgotten that idiot had gotten together with the God of the Three Realms.

“Then can you tell me if all one hundred of my missions have problems, or just a few?” Wen Nuan resorted to the process of elimination.

The Main System queried Wen Nuan’s missions, transmitting the ones marked in red to her.

Staring at the glaring red font radiating a dangerous aura, Wen Nuan asked, “So, you’re saying these missions are the problem, causing all my Points to be frozen?”

The Main System replied: 【Upon verification, the tasks in these worlds are incomplete! Due to Tasker S19950101’s negligence, the main subjects have blackened [黑化 | hēihuà | become morally corrupt/villainous], causing the main storyline to become disordered, thus leading to world instability and mission failure!】

Negligence? Don’t make false accusations! Wen Nuan had meticulously calculated exactly how many Points she needed to retire. Every one of her hundred missions was completed to meet that exact requirement, ensuring the tasks could continue perfectly even after her departure. And now she had nothing to show for it?!

Holding the red notification slip from the Main System, Wen Nuan sat on the steps, her face grim.

“Yo, playing wilder than me, huh?” Yan Hui walked down the steps and sat beside Wen Nuan, snatching the notification from her hand. “Mission Failure Notice, Points Withdrawal Failure Notice, Points Frozen Notice, Negligence Leading to Subject Blackening Notice…”

Hearing Yan Hui’s laughter, Wen Nuan said dryly, “Read it, but why the hell are you laughing?! Are you here to gloat?”

“Yep, what else? I’d rather spend this time messing around with my God.” Yan Hui smirked, particularly smug. “You were in the top three of the task rankings. Number one and two retired perfectly, but you? Mission failure, Points frozen. What did you do in these red-flagged worlds?”

Wen Nuan grabbed her hair in frustration. “If I f*cking knew, would I be talking to you?!” She’d be off enjoying her carefree retirement!

“Want some advice?” Yan Hui nudged her, a glint of cunning in her eyes.

Wen Nuan turned her head. “What?”

“Return to the Source World [回源世界 | huí yuán shìjiè | revisit completed tasks/original settings] and find the reason for the mission failures. Clear the subjects’ blackening value, and then you can withdraw your frozen Points.” Yan Hui picked out the red-flagged mission slips, sighing. “Otherwise, you’ll have to redo the missions.”

“Return to the Source World?” Wen Nuan had never heard of such a thing. “But the original task worlds are closed. How do I go back?”

Yan Hui’s lips curled into a playful smile. “You’re so smart, take a guess.”

Seeing her expression, Wen Nuan touched her cheek, forcing a strained smile. “Lord, considering I’ve put in a few good words for you in front of the God, how about a little help?”

“Tsk tsk, you really know how to bend and stretch.” Yan Hui stood up. “Come on, let’s go see my God.”

Wen Nuan’s eyes lit up. Yan Hui’s act made it clear she was going to help.

In the Pale Lands, at the God’s palace—exquisite, dazzling, and magnificent, with white jade floors and glazed tile roofs, seemingly floating amidst a faint white mist, high above the void—stood an enormous, majestic structure. However, the couplets hanging on the surrounding stone pillars were particularly jarring. With a bright red background and golden-black characters, Wen Nuan recognized Yan Hui’s handwriting.

“Ugly as hell,” Wen Nuan said, making no effort to hide her disgust and disdain.

Yan Hui grinned. “It’s fine. I understand. It’s just the jealousy of a single dog, finding solace in venomous words.”

Wen Nuan: “…”

At the highest level of the palace, on a stone dais, sat a figure, lofty and unapproachable. Wen Nuan stopped on the platform, watching as Yan Hui ran up the steps and embraced the figure. A moment later, they began to kiss.

Wen Nuan looked away, expressionless, thinking: Shameless, lovey-dovey couple!

Aware of the outsider’s presence, they kept their affections brief. Yan Hui pulled Yin Xin [音莘 | Yīn Xīn] down the steps and, pointing at Wen Nuan, said gloatingly, “Her. Points frozen, haha…”

Yin Xin smiled, looking at Wen Nuan. “Long time no see.” Her smile wasn’t like Yan Hui’s malicious laughter. It was like a compassionate gaze upon the world, or perhaps a unique indulgence and tolerance reserved for Yan Hui. A benevolent deity.

Wen Nuan shrugged. “The God should know why I’m here.”

Yin Xin nodded. “It’s simple. I can let you return to the Source World.”

“The price?” Wen Nuan didn’t believe such good fortune would fall into her lap. Her Points were frozen; she was penniless. That left only one option: selling her soul.

Yin Xin shook her head, smiling faintly. “No price.” She raised her hand, and her icy fingertips touched Wen Nuan’s brow.

In that instant, Wen Nuan felt her soul detach from her body, gradually disappearing into the void. She could still faintly hear Yin Xin’s ethereal voice.

“Go back…”

Blinding light filled Wen Nuan’s vision. She didn’t dare open her eyes, fearing the brightness would blind her. A sputtering electrical sound crackled in her mind.

【Zzzt… Zzzt…】

The familiar connection sound. Her system.

As her eyes adjusted to the light, Wen Nuan slowly opened them, finding herself on a beach. Azure sky and waves stretched in the distance, surrounded by handsome men and beautiful women. She was lying on a beach chair.

【System 1005 requesting connection. Connect?】

Wen Nuan nodded. “Yes, connect.”

The next second, a roar echoed in her mind.

【Aaaaah, I told you that would cause problems! And now, your Points are frozen!】 the system complained.

Wen Nuan touched her nose, embarrassed. “I thought I was the only one returning to the Source World. I didn’t expect you to come along too.”

The system sighed. 【You are my host, after all. If you have problems, I bear some responsibility. I should share the consequences.】

“Sorry,” Wen Nuan apologized, not realizing she had implicated her system.

【Forget it. No use crying over spilled milk. Let’s focus on finding the problem.】 The system looked at Wen Nuan. 【But I’m curious. Returning to the Source World requires either all of a Tasker’s Points or a soul contract with the God. Your Points are frozen, so you couldn’t have used them. And your soul is free, no contract signed. Why would the God let you return?】

Wen Nuan was equally puzzled. She felt those two were hiding something, but since they weren’t saying anything, she had no clue.

“I don’t know. Maybe they’re planning to ask for payment after my Points are unfrozen?” That was the only explanation Wen Nuan could come up with.

The system nodded. 【Fine. Unfreezing your Points is the priority.】

The system checked the world’s information and sighed. 【Do you remember this world?】

Wen Nuan nodded. “Yes. The male lead is Qi He [祁赫 | Qí Hè], and the female lead is You Jiayi [尤佳宜 | Yóu Jiāyí].” Recalling what the Main System had said about subject blackening, she asked, “System, can you check which subject has blackened?”

The system displayed the control panel. 【It’s the female lead, You Jiayi. Her current blackening value is 8!】

“8? That’s not bad,” Wen Nuan thought the value wasn’t high.

The system chuckled dryly. 【The blackening value is out of 10. A value of 8 means she’s extremely dangerous right now!】

Wen Nuan: “…” This was troublesome.

“That doesn’t make sense. I paved the way for them before I left. Why is her blackening value so high?” Wen Nuan wondered, “Did the male lead cheat on her?” The main storyline portrayed the male lead as devoted and affectionate. It was impossible for him to cause the female lead’s blackening value to be this high.

The system brought up the world’s storyline. 【See for yourself.】

Wen Nuan’s face darkened as she read.

A year had passed since she left this task world. Back then, after setting everything up for the leads, she left, ostensibly for a vacation abroad, but in reality, to move on to her next task.

During her absence, the main storyline had completely derailed. After Wen Nuan drugged and placed You Jiayi in Qi He’s room, paparazzi photographed them. A barrage of negative press followed, accusing You Jiayi of using Qi He to advance her career. To promote a newcomer favored by a shareholder, You Jiayi’s company exploited her remaining value, making her escort the newcomer to various events and shows. They even inserted the newcomer into all of You Jiayi’s films and TV dramas. This disgusted many directors and producers, who developed a negative impression of You Jiayi as well.

After the hotel incident, the company abandoned You Jiayi and fully promoted the newcomer, creating buzz and stepping on You Jiayi to elevate the newcomer, squeezing her dry before shelving her.

Faced with being forced to entertain company executives, You Jiayi used all her savings to pay a 5 million yuan penalty to terminate her contract and regain her freedom.

Then, her mother was diagnosed with liver cancer. The treatment costs were exorbitant, a liver donor was unavailable, and even the assigned surgeon seemed inexperienced and unreliable.

One word summarized You Jiayi’s past year: miserable!

Wen Nuan checked what the male lead had been doing, why he hadn’t helped. She found him flirting with the female supporting character, even preparing to get engaged?! This world’s main storyline was unrecognizable.

Dumbfounded, Wen Nuan finished reading the current storyline. “Holy sh*t, how did it become like this?”

The system sighed. 【I told you, you were too hasty. The male and female leads’ relationship hadn’t reached a stable point. Rash actions were bound to backfire.】

“But I used the same method in other task worlds without any problems,” Wen Nuan said, baffled.

【Who knows?】 The system was also puzzled. Wen Nuan’s methods, though shady, had always yielded the desired results in previous tasks.

Wen Nuan took out her phone and bought a ticket home.

As she walked, she pondered what went wrong. Why did the same method cause such a huge problem in this task world?!

Suddenly, she slapped her forehead in realization. “Could it be that I drugged the wrong person? I shouldn’t have drugged the female lead! I should have drugged the male lead!”

System: 【…】

It recalled the other Taskers’ and systems’ evaluations of Wen Nuan:

Truly deserving of the title, “Ancestor of Unorthodox Methods”!
