Trending Again – Chapter 5

Si Meng, you’re trending

After the recent controversy, Si Meng continued as usual. She uploaded vlogs every day, just like before, unaltered and unedited. Unlike other internet celebrities who would capitalize on their fame, Si Meng’s growth in fans wasn’t affected at all. She did whatever she needed to do each day.

In addition, to meet her fans’ demands, she agreed to do a live stream every night. Even if all she did was wash vegetables and prepare ingredients for Lin Hanyue, there was always someone foolishly sending her gifts.

Si Meng finished the live stream and was about to close it when a rocket appeared.

Zhang Biliang who loves to eat: “I’m sincere, I will definitely move you.”

Si Meng didn’t pay much attention and heard Lin Hanyue calling for her. She quickly ended the live stream and went to the hallway. Sure enough, she found Lin Hanyue sulking on the stairs.

She was about to carry Lin Hanyue upstairs when she was forcefully pushed away. Lin Hanyue whined, “Don’t touch me. Ugh, I feel terrible.”

Si Meng was both angry and speechless, so she reluctantly went to make a sobering soup. She grumbled, “You knew it’d be unpleasant, but you still drank. It might kill you.”

After preparing the sobering soup, Si Meng saw Lin Hanyue rolling on the ground. She had never seen Lin Hanyue like this before, and it was much cuter than her usual fierce demeanor.

Si Meng blew on the sobering soup and fed it to Lin Hanyue, who calmed down considerably after drinking it. She carried Lin Hanyue to the bed, but Lin Hanyue wouldn’t let go of her. Si Meng was tired from all the commotion, so she decided to sleep on Lin Hanyue’s bed.

The next day, Lin Hanyue, with her eyes closed, massaged her temples. She had some hazy memories from last night. She reached for her phone several times but felt something soft and slippery. What was it?

Lin Hanyue screamed, “Si Meng! What are you doing here? Last night…”

Si Meng threw a pillow at her, annoyed because this woman couldn’t sleep peacefully, causing her to toss and turn until three or four in the morning.

Lin Hanyue got hit by the pillow, rubbed her head, and remembered that she had forcefully dragged Si Meng onto the bed last night.

Her phone rang, reminding her that she had a program to record today. Lately, there was a variety show, and in order to secure funding up north, she had to participate. She thought about not seeing Si Meng for one or two months due to the show’s requirement of no assistants. This made her inexplicably irritated.

Si Meng woke up again and found no one beside her. She scratched her head and was surprised that Lin Hanyue didn’t have a fit. Wasn’t she very particular about cleanliness?

When they were together before, Lin Hanyue was quite a perfectionist, but Si Meng couldn’t help but feel that she couldn’t do without her. Even though four years had passed, her fondness for Lin Hanyue had surprisingly not waned. Last night, she had almost lost control.

Si Meng opened WeChat and saw that Lu Qi had called her eighteen times in a row.

Si Meng had a puzzled look on her face. “What’s going on?”

Lu Qi said, “Oh my, you’re trending. It’s only been a few days. No wonder my sister said you’re the kind of person who has food sent from heaven; you can’t get fat even if you try.”

Si Meng was even more confused. “What are you talking about?”

Lu Qi said, “There’s a recent hit variety show called 《The Life of Celebrity Chefs》. They’ve not only invited big-name celebrities but also selected some amateur internet celebrities. You’re actually on the list of candidates.”

Si Meng realized this a little late and checked her Dy account. She indeed received an official invitation. However, the thought of participating in a variety show and having to deal with fake and phony people made her irritated.

Si Meng asked hesitantly, “Can I not go?”

Lu Qi was disappointed, “Other people can’t even beg for such an opportunity, and you… Well, it’s only a few million in compensation, I guess.”

Si Meng’s eyes lit up immediately. “I’m going, for sure!”

In the evening, Si Meng was worried about how to explain to Lin Hanyue that she needed to take a month or two off, but the butler informed her that Lin Hanyue wouldn’t be returning anytime soon because she was shooting a variety show.

Si Meng was overjoyed, started a live stream, and chatted with her fans. The fans were excited, as it was the first time she used a microphone. She was a streamer who didn’t rely on looks or voice but was known for her cooking skills, which was quite unique. Many of her fans genuinely loved cooking, especially the “mom” fans, who considered Si Meng their kitchen goddess.

As soon as Si Meng spoke, the “mom” fans were completely charmed. Her cute, slightly childish voice was incredibly alluring, turning the cooking live stream into a matchmaking event. One auntie said her son graduated from a top university, another claimed her daughter worked at a prestigious company, and Si Meng couldn’t keep up with all the questions from the “mom” fans.

Si Meng quickly ended the live stream and unintentionally ignored a friend request.

Zhang Biliang who loves to eat: “She truly is the woman I’ve set my eyes on. Even her voice is so pleasant. Let’s meet again at the 《The Life of Celebrity Chefs》 recording site.”

On the other hand, Lin Hanyue had already arrived at the recording site for 《The Life of Celebrity Chefs》. However, the director adamantly refused to disclose the list of participants. They aimed to capture spontaneous reactions during the live broadcast. To maintain the integrity of the participants’ personas, the success of the show relied on their acting skills.

Since Lin Hanyue didn’t make any headway, she turned to Dy and noticed an ID recommended by an old friend. It was a streamer, someone who never showed their face, only focusing on cooking. The more Lin Hanyue watched, the more she felt that something was amiss. The ingredients being used seemed to be the same as the daily bento she ate, didn’t they?
