Trending Again – Chapter 2

A wealthy woman in City A, the overlord clause

Si Meng, as if she had survived a catastrophe, hopped into Lu Qi’s car. Lu Qi looked at her strangely and asked, “What’s wrong, were you being chased by a dog?”

Si Meng clicked her tongue and said, “Let’s not talk about it. I ran into Lin Hanyue.”

Lu Qi immediately frowned, “That scoundrel still dares to come looking for you?”

Si Meng’s expression was hard to read, and she seemed exhausted. She replied, “Let’s not dwell on the past. How’s the accommodation you arranged for me?”

Lu Qi didn’t want to touch a nerve, so she said, “It’s quite nice, a one-bedroom apartment. Trust me, I’ll make sure you make a comeback in the entertainment industry. I promised my sister.”

Si Meng seemed preoccupied, and whether or not she returned to the entertainment industry didn’t seem to matter much to her, but Lu Qi’s sister…

Si Meng casually asked, “How is your sister doing now?”

Lu Qi sighed and said, “What can I say? She’s playing the role of a homemaker and raising the kids. That husband of hers is still a stubborn straight-laced guy, always saying that women shouldn’t be in the spotlight.”

Si Meng felt a complicated mix of emotions, “I’ve let her down.”

Si Meng’s rise to stardom in the early days was actually a stroke of luck. At that time, Lu Qi’s sister was her top-notch manager, essentially responsible for bringing Si Meng into the limelight. Even the incident back then was smoothed over by Sister Lu.

Lu Qi couldn’t stand Si Meng’s near-death appearance and said, “Since you’re back, let those people from back then see what it means to turn the tables!”

Si Meng returned to her residence, opened her computer to handle some overseas projects. She didn’t want her family to know she had returned to the country yet; her personal affairs needed to be managed by herself. She had no intention of letting those people from back then off the hook.

After taking a shower, Si Meng sorted through her bills and realized she owed a whopping thirty million in breach of contract fees. While thirty million wasn’t a small sum, she couldn’t use her overseas funds.

At this moment, Lu Qi sent a WeChat message, and when Si Meng opened it, it was her job offer.

Si Meng: “What’s this?”

Lu Qi: “Before you return to the entertainment industry, you have to clear your debt. So, I posted your resume online, and surprisingly, some rich lady with too much money is interested.”

Si Meng had a vague sense of foreboding. Lu Qi was always unreliable.

Si Meng: “Maybe I should reconsider.”

Lu Qi: “Just being an assistant, really, the pay is generous!”

Si Meng: “How much?”

Lu Qi held up one finger in the video call and smiled, “One million a month.”

Si Meng admitted that she was somewhat tempted. Before she could respond, Lu Qi left with a parting “See you tomorrow” and ended the video call.

The next day, Si Meng dressed in a white T-shirt and jeans, added a mask and a peaked cap, and hurriedly left her home.

Upon arriving at the agreed-upon café, it was completely empty inside. Si Meng removed her mask, ordered a cup of Americano to pass the time, and the waitress kept looking at her profile, as if wanting to say something but hesitating. This made Si Meng wonder if there was something on her face.

The waitress brought the coffee over, a bit shy, and said, “Are you a new celebrity? You’re incredibly good-looking.”

Only then did Si Meng realize the power of her own face. No wonder Sister Lu had pointed at her face back then and said, “Even with this appearance, it’s hard not to become famous.”

Si Meng responded with a polite smile, “I’m just an ordinary person.” The waitress felt regretful, as she had never seen such an attractive person before and couldn’t become a fan.

At that moment, a person dressed as a lawyer entered the café, followed by an elderly man.

The lawyer had a cold demeanor, but the elderly man was overly enthusiastic.

The elderly man said, “You only need to take care of my young lady’s daily life, and, most importantly, keep her happy.”

The lawyer took out the contract and continued, “The duration is three years, you can consider it.”

Si Meng carefully read through the contract. It was unbelievably unreliable, with clauses like ‘the second party (Si Meng) must keep the first party in a pleasant mood’ and ‘the second party cannot develop romantic feelings for the first party during the contract period.’

Seeing Si Meng hesitating, the elderly man remembered his daughter’s instructions and said, “Our miss said, if it weren’t for your good looks and pleasing appearance, you wouldn’t be worth this price. If you miss this opportunity, you might not get another one like it.”

Si Meng gritted her teeth and signed her name. She was in dire need of money now. Without money, she couldn’t make a comeback.

After taking the contract, the elderly man instructed his bodyguards to take Si Meng to the car. He couldn’t let her slip away again.

Si Meng noticed the other side’s impatience and said, “Uh, don’t you want to wait for me to pack my luggage?”

The elderly butler replied, “There’s no need. You start taking care of our miss from today. You just need to be here.”

Si Meng was still a bit uneasy, so she called Lu Qi. This time, Lu Qi assured her that the other party was a wealthy woman from City A and wouldn’t sell her out; she should just enjoy herself.

Si Meng got into the Rolls-Royce and watched as the urban scenery outside gradually turned into the outskirts, finally stopping in front of a large villa. Rows of maids came forward in response, but Si Meng’s attention was completely focused on the luggage at the door. Wasn’t that her suitcase? Or had it been taken away by Lin Hanyue, that crazy woman?

Si Meng’s spine shivered, and she nervously looked up at the villa’s balcony. Sure enough, she saw Lin Hanyue standing there with her arms crossed, a sly smile on her face, gazing at her.

Si Meng: Is it too late to run now?
