Trending Again – Chapter 1

WARNING: MTL

On the Social Death Scene after the Shadow

“Has your flight arrived? I’ll come over right away!”

“I…” Si Meng hadn’t finished her sentence when the woman on the other end of the phone impatiently hung up.

Si Meng impatiently scratched the wolf’s tail behind her ear, revealing the fiery red earring in her left ear. Her peach blossom eyes habitually narrowed. In fact, she could have taken a taxi back herself, but the thought of having only one friend left in her home country, Lu Qi, made her reluctant to decline her offer.

Si Meng scrolled through Weibo. It had been a long time since she had logged into her domestic account, and all she could see was a sea of trending topics.

Trending topics: “#Movie Queen Lin Hanyue’s New Drama is a Hit#” “#Movie Queen Lin Hanyue Spotted at the Airport, Natural Beauty#” “#Movie Queen…”

Si Meng looked at the familiar name, furrowing her brows. Even though it had been four years, the thought of that troublesome woman still made Si Meng’s heart skip a beat. She hoped she would never run into her again.

A text message from Lu Qi appeared on Si Meng’s phone. She tightened her mask, dragged her suitcase, and began to walk forward. But today, the airport was unusually crowded. Just as she was about to exit, she saw a group of people holding support signs and pushing their way in. “Lin Hanyue” was written in big letters on the signs, making it especially conspicuous. Si Meng took a sharp breath. Could it be this coincidental? She hurriedly rushed inside, carrying her luggage.

To escape the commotion, she entered the restroom. She collided head-on with a woman wrapped up like a mummy. Si Meng moved to the left, and the woman did the same. She moved to the right, and the woman followed her.

Si Meng quickly made way for this woman, but she saw the woman blocking her path stubbornly, even trying to touch her luggage.

Si Meng: “The first time I’ve encountered such a audacious robber, are you looking for trouble?”

Meanwhile, Lin Hanyue, wrapped up like a mummy, watched as this person boldly took her luggage.

Lin Hanyue: “Excuse me, but I believe you’ve taken the wrong luggage.”

Si Meng widened her eyes. This was her luggage, no doubt about it. It was a custom-made suitcase. How could anyone share her peculiar taste? She was now convinced that the strange woman in front of her had some issues.

Suddenly, fans from the support group crowded in, and Si Meng was frightened. She quickly ran into the restroom, whether it was due to her past professional habits or just a reflex triggered by the name “Lin Hanyue.”

Lin Hanyue reached out and grabbed the hem of Si Meng’s clothes, but she noticed that Si Meng, like a startled hamster, was desperately trying to hide in the restroom. Lin Hanyue had no choice but to follow her closely.

Upon arriving at the airport, Lin Hanyue had discovered that it was packed with fans, and she had no idea where her luggage had ended up amidst the crowd. Her small assistant went to divert the fans’ attention, and her phone and other belongings were not on her. She didn’t want to borrow a phone from a stranger either.

That was until she noticed Si Meng, who was acting strangely and trying to hide.

Si Meng noticed that this woman was still following her. Could she be some kind of pervert?

Si Meng thought about rushing into a separate compartment and closing the door. However, Lin Hanyue placed her hand on the door, and the two of them ended up squeezing into the compartment together. Although Lin Hanyue didn’t like strangers, she surprisingly didn’t dislike the person in front of her.

Si Meng suddenly spoke: “Spill it. Are you after my money or my looks? If it’s money, don’t even think about it.”

Lin Hanyue was a head taller than Si Meng and couldn’t stretch her limbs in the cramped compartment. She could only lean against the partition with one hand while the other rested on the suitcase. If anyone were to see them, they would surely be startled by this bizarre wall slam position.

Si Meng swallowed hard. That familiar sense of fear washed over her again. Why did this woman in front of her give her the feeling that she was so much like Lin Hanyue?

Hearing her gulp, Lin Hanyue, assuming she was feeling guilty as a thief, spoke coldly, “Shouldn’t I be the one asking that question? What about this luggage…”

The distance between the two was inches apart, and Si Meng could even feel the other’s breath brushing against her eyelashes. No, this was not right; she had to distance herself from anything resembling Lin Hanyue.

Si Meng pushed forward with both hands, coincidentally landing on Lin Hanyue’s ample chest. Lin Hanyue’s face stiffened, and her cheeks under the mask turned red, whether out of embarrassment or anger, Si Meng didn’t have time to think. She just wanted to know if this person was truly Lin Hanyue.

Si Meng, using the luggage as leverage, quickly reached up and yanked off the stranger’s sunglasses and mask. Lin Hanyue’s perpetually icy expression was suddenly unveiled in front of Si Meng.

Lin Hanyue’s face grew darker, and Si Meng knew this was a sign of her anger. She hurriedly shoved her luggage into Lin Hanyue’s hands.

Si Meng: “I don’t want the luggage. It’s all yours, Lin Hanyue. Please, don’t follow me.”

Lin Hanyue touched her own face. Today, she hadn’t had time to put on makeup due to her early flight. This appearance had some resemblance to her onscreen image, and yet this person had recognized her at a glance. It didn’t seem like she was one of her fans; instead, she avoided her as if she were a venomous snake. Quite interesting…

When Lin Hanyue finally managed to leave the airport, she found her assistant, Xiao Li, holding an identical suitcase, with the same patterns and design as the one she had given to Si Meng. Wasn’t the designer supposed to create only one for the entire country?

Lin Hanyue: It can’t be that coincidental, can it?

The butler, seeing Lin Hanyue stepping out, quickly opened the car door for her. He noticed that his young miss wasn’t in high spirits, and her face showed signs of fatigue from the overnight flight.

Lin Hanyue furrowed her brows tightly and suddenly realized the foolishness of her actions. She had brazenly snatched someone else’s luggage on the street. If that person were to spread the word, it would become a hot topic.

Lin Hanyue put her hand to her forehead and said, “Uncle Wang, please investigate the background of the owner of this luggage.”

After half an hour.

The butler hesitated and then said, “Miss, the owner of this luggage is Si Meng.”

Lin Hanyue sat up abruptly from her half-slumber, a hint of amusement in her eyes, mixed with some regret. She should have prevented her from slipping away. She then asked, “Si Meng is back in the country?”

The butler replied, “Yes, after four years, she has finally returned. Back then, she let you down…”

Lin Hanyue interrupted him in a solemn tone, “So, how is she doing now?”

The butler responded, “I heard she owes millions in breach of contract penalties.”

Lin Hanyue’s eyes lit up and she asked, “Is she in need of money? Have we found a suitable personal assistant for me yet?”

The butler responded, understanding her intent, “Miss, not yet. It’s been challenging to find candidates who meet the criteria. I will contact Si Meng right away.”
