The Hand of Confession – Chapter 309

Volume 9: The Days Can’t Be Lived Anymore

Outing

Shen Maomao Who Loves to Exercise

Lou Jingmo returned Simon Peter to her, saying, “Use it now.”

“Huh?” Shen Maomao held the card blankly. “Will it still work if I use it now?”

Lou Jingmo said, “Give it a try.”

Shen Maomao closed her eyes and did as she was told. A few seconds later, she opened her eyes again. “It’s not working. It says I don’t meet the conditions for use.”

However, the card did not explicitly state what conditions were required to use it.

So why was this happening?

But now was not the time to think about this. With the simplest method ruled out, Lou Jingmo began to consider another viable option.

Excluding the two cards Shen Maomao possessed, they were still missing three cards—Thomas, who was said to be able to resurrect the dead; John, whose specific function was unknown; and Judas, who betrayed the Lord.

Lou Jingmo had only heard people mention the Thomas card on the forums. Searching the forums again now only yielded information from four years ago, which was of little help to them.

She didn’t know what form this so-called resurrection would take, but it didn’t matter. As long as she found this card, at worst she could also kill Yun Shengjin and Ren Yue, gather all twelve cards, and then wish for Shen Maomao’s resurrection.

Having a sliver of hope was better than despair. Wallowing in sorrow was not her style.

She put the card away again and gently stroked Shen Maomao’s chubby little face, but a cold light glinted in her eyes. “We’ll set off to go back tomorrow. If any accidents happen on the way, I will do my best to keep your corpse intact.”

Actually, the best method would be to kill Shen Maomao right now to prevent the corpse from being damaged, but firstly, this was reality, and killing a person was not as easy as in a game, and secondly… she couldn’t bring herself to do it.

Shen Maomao swallowed, feeling inexplicably that Lou Jingmo’s current state was a bit dangerous, as if she were planning some perilous action.

She snuggled into her arms and said coaxingly, “Lou-jie… um… shall we finish what we were doing before we went in?”

Before entering the instance, the two of them found their affections met and their intentions joined1, their minds in chaos and hearts bewildered2, and were just about to complete the great harmony of life3 on the hotel bed. Who knew that after just a couple of kisses, before they even had time to take off their clothes, they were sent into the game.

Shen Maomao felt she had lost out big time.

Looking at the current situation, it seemed she wasn’t going to die anytime soon. It would be better to invest her limited time in things that should be done, so she wouldn’t have regrets after she died.

Lou Jingmo was a bit speechless. “…You’re still in the mood for this?”

Shen Maomao raised her hands and pushed her down, then swung a leg over to sit astride her waist, looking down at her from above. “Are you in or not? Are you in or not?”

Lou Jingmo narrowed her eyes. “Are you sure?”

Shen Maomao nodded furiously. “Come on, come on, I don’t want to die without ever having tasted the flavor of clapping4…”

Lou Jingmo’s palm came to rest on the small of her back, then held her firmly in place. “Since you asked for it, don’t regret it.”

Shen Maomao bent down and kissed her directly, her hands also beginning to roam restlessly.

Lou Jingmo let her do as she pleased, even rubbing the back of her neck with an encouraging gesture.

Thus, Shen Maomao’s actions became even more unbridled.

Shen Maomao was a girl who liked to exercise5.

Today, her exercise goal was to climb mountains, two of them.

It clearly wasn’t deep winter yet, but the entire mountain was as white as snow. She climbed upward excitedly, pleasantly surprised to find a patch of plum blossoms blooming at the summit. The snow reflecting the red plums was truly a scene of exquisite beauty.

The plum blossoms were too beautiful; she couldn’t bear to pick them to admire, so she could only hold them in her palm to look at, or stand on her tiptoes to gently sniff the stamens.

The stamens were incredibly fragrant. Though it clearly wasn’t a place for bees, it carried the light sweetness and aroma of honey, causing her to uncontrollably stick out her tongue for a lick. She instantly got a mouthful of honey, and thus began to suck on them more fondly, eager to taste more sweetness.

They had only driven one car for this mountain climbing trip, and Shen Maomao felt that with her driving skills, she was qualified to be the driver.

Before deciding on the self-driving tour, she had watched many driving videos, precisely so she wouldn’t get lost when she actually got on the road—of course, she learned all this secretly behind Lou Jingmo’s back. After all, she hadn’t passed her driver’s test yet, and this was the first time in her life she had touched a car.

The car started very smoothly, and there were no mistakes in the first half of the journey, but a problem arose when coming down from the mountain.

Because the descent was too fast, she accidentally flipped the car. Before her eyes, heaven spun and the earth revolved6, turning her until she was muddled and unsure of where she was. By the time she came to her senses, she was already pinned under the car, unable to move at all.

She swallowed. Only now did she start to panic a little, and she quickly asked about Lou Jingmo’s condition. “Lou-jie… is this position not quite right…”

Lou Jingmo’s lips curved up. “What’s not right?”

Shen Maomao: “…With you like this, I’m so passive…”

Lou Jingmo: “Passive is correct.”

She had long been dissatisfied with Shen Maomao’s driving skills. She really didn’t know where she got the confidence to think she could pass the driver’s test.

Lou Jingmo seized the driver’s seat. The car was back on the road, driven by her both quickly and steadily, traveling without obstruction across the vast plains.

Many beautiful scenes flashed past the window. Shen Maomao was as excited as a child, patting the window and letting out surprised exclamations, one after another, almost without stopping.

Lou Jingmo lightly tapped the brake, sharply turned the steering wheel, and, as if showing off, executed a handsome drift, which immediately drew another scream from Shen Maomao. She couldn’t help but curl her lips in satisfaction.

The journey had just begun, and there was still plenty of time to show off her skills. Although it was also her first time touching a car, she knew far, far more than a little vegetable bird7 like Shen Maomao.

As they drove on, the car passed through a forest and arrived before a canyon.

The canyon was deep, bottomless. Lou Jingmo parked the car by the side of the road and got out to investigate the situation.

She lay on the edge of the canyon and looked down. The abyss was too dark to see anything clearly, but there should be a small stream at the bottom, flowing gently and emitting an enticing aura.

This seemed to be the legendary magical stream, capable of rejuvenating the appearance and granting eternal youth to those who drank its water. It was exactly what they had been looking for.

Lou Jingmo immediately got her tools ready, preparing to jump down from the top of the canyon to find out.

Shen Maomao thought this move was extremely dangerous and quickly tried to stop her death-courting8 behavior. “Don’t…”

However, Lou Jingmo had already made up her mind. Before she could finish, she grabbed the rope and jumped down.

Shen Maomao was startled and let out a short cry of alarm, then turned her head away, sulking and refusing to look at her.

Lou Jingmo explored deep into the canyon. It was too dark inside for her to see anything; she could only rely on her feelings to judge the surrounding environment.

It was very hot and humid here. Experience told her: the stream below might be a hot spring.

Not long after she descended, she finally touched the bottom. Shen Maomao’s voice calling for her came from the bank. She replied with a few soothing words, but her actions showed no intention of changing course. Instead, she cupped some spring water in her hands and brought it to her lips for a taste.

It was a sweetness and joy she had never tasted before.

Having tasted the sweetness9, she directly buried her head in the spring’s source and began to drink heartily, angering Shen Maomao on the bank, who cursed at her nonstop.

But the two were too far apart. By the time the curses reached her, they were just a blur of sound, making it impossible for her to determine whether it was cursing or something else.

Shen Maomao was both angry and tired. Her voice became hoarse from shouting, but she saw no sign of her heart returning or her intentions turning10. For a moment, her extreme anger attacked her heart11, and after trembling twice, she collapsed on the ground.

Lou Jingmo was shocked and quickly climbed up. She supported her head and gave her artificial respiration. Only after she had recovered did she ask with a smile, “So worked up?”

Shen Maomao said in a hoarse voice, “I told you not to do that…”

Lou Jingmo said innocently, “It’s all the spring water’s fault for being too sweet.”

Shen Maomao shot her an annoyed glare. “You can just shut up.”

If nothing unexpected happened, they would probably be spending the night by the canyon.

At night, Shen Maomao had a bit of a fever. Her cheeks were flushed red, and her forehead was covered in sweat, looking extremely pitiful.

The two didn’t have enough warm equipment. To prevent her from getting cold again, Lou Jingmo decided to use the method of generating heat through friction to warm her up.

But this method didn’t seem very effective. The two were still shivering in the cold wind and could only hug each other as tightly as possible, drawing on each other’s body heat.

After striving for some time, they finally felt warm. But after being active for so long, Shen Maomao was already physically and mentally exhausted. She had no extra energy to care about anything else, and she fell into a deep sleep with her eyes closed, even letting out soft little snores that sounded very cute.

In contrast to her, Lou Jingmo, who had done more of the work, was not sleepy at all.

By the moonlight from the window, she gazed almost greedily at Shen Maomao’s face, her eyes tracing her features.

She wanted to smoke a cigarette, but since she didn’t have the habit, she didn’t have any on her.

No cigarettes, but there were several bottles of red wine in the hotel room. She got out of bed silently, opened a bottle, poured it into a wine glass on the counter, and swirled it gently.

The wine glass tapped lightly against the glass, making a pleasant, melodious sound.

On the bed, Shen Maomao was sleeping like a pig12, showing no signs of waking up.

The sound of rain came from outside the window, a pitter-patter that was vexing to the heart.

On this night that was deep and where people were quiet, the real world and the game world seemed no different.

Those sleepless nights, one after another, the times of carrying their hearts and hanging their gallbladders13, were slowly overlapping with tonight.

When would Shen Maomao die? In what way would she depart?

How could her pain be reduced? How could the integrity of her corpse be guaranteed?

If she had an accident here, how would she transport her14 body back home?

She tortured herself by thinking about these questions over and over again. It wasn’t until the sunlight shone in from the window that she realized with a start—she had been sitting there all night, swirling the wine glass.

She put down the untouched red wine, moved her numb legs, and then walked to the bedside. She looked down at Shen Maomao, who was no longer snoring, and extended a slightly trembling index finger towards her nose. She only breathed a sigh of relief after feeling her steady and slow breathing, then lifted the covers and slipped in.

As if sensing something, Shen Maomao groggily rolled herself into her arms and fell back into a deep sleep.
