The Hand of Confession – Chapter 284

Volume 9: The Days Can’t Be Lived Anymore

Departure

Farming a small wave of wild monsters to gain experience1

Regarding her good skills, Ren Yue actually didn’t have much memory of them, but this didn’t hinder her from achieving a thorough mastery of these techniques and applying them at the appropriate times.

She was like a nimble swift, spreading her wings and rushing into the crowd at high speed.

For a moment, it made Xiao Lou feel that she would be a master who was well-paced2 and could advance and retreat with ease. But in the next second, she took a hard punch to her lower back and scratched her own fingernails across the man’s face, successfully giving him five scratch marks.

Xiao Lou: “…”

Ren Yue focused on beating this man. When others came to pull her away, she dodged them with a flexible flash of her body, then stuck like Niangao3 to the man who was cursing as he tried to flee, her fists sinking into his flesh, exceptionally ruthless.

The man was ghost-crying and wolf-howling4, flusteredly resisting her attacks, only to find that he actually couldn’t beat this soft and weak little girl at all. He hurriedly called to his companions, “What are you looking at?! Hurry up and pull her away!”

Ren Yue gave them no opportunity for a group beating. This man had no technique whatsoever; one look and you could tell he hadn’t received any professional training, nor did he have much fighting experience. He only knew how to use brute force to bully the weak, his body full of openings everywhere.

She found an opportunity and suddenly choked his neck tightly, then pulled a small knife from her jacket and aimed it at his fragile throat, her eyes flickering with a cold and cruel light. “How well-done do you want him?”

It was a matter of human life being as important as heaven5, but his companions didn’t seem anxious at all. Instead, they showed her a playful smile. “How come I didn’t discover you were so spicy yesterday?”

This person looked of human appearance and dog’s manner6, but he didn’t seem to have any regard for his companion’s life.

The one she held hostage became anxious. “Do you know how to talk? I’m still being held here!”

That person smiled. “Do whatever you want with this idiot. But you, yourself, must stay behind and play with us today. Gege just likes women like you with flavorful personalities. After all, playing with ones who have no ability to resist isn’t very interesting…”

There were few women who had survived the disaster to begin with. Having lost the protection of the law, some cerebral palsy orphans7 who only thought with their lower half bodies started to get ideas they shouldn’t have.

Ren Yue went “tui,”8 and with one hand-knife9 chop, she knocked the hostage in her hands unconscious. She casually threw him aside, then got into a stance to face the several people before her.

It seemed this matter couldn’t be resolved peacefully today.

Her eyes glanced behind the five men. Xiao Lou was leisurely watching the excitement with her arms crossed, as if completely unaware of the approaching danger.

“Run!” she roared, hating iron for not becoming steel10. “Don’t mind me! And don’t mind the stuff! Go!”

A man reached out to grab her. She took the opportunity to seize that reaching dog’s paw11, and with a clever use of force, there was a crisp “gabeng” sound. The man’s wrist drooped limply, and he let out a pained wail as a curse word escaped his mouth.

“Quite capable…” the human-looking, dog-acting man sneered, and the four men attacked her in unison.

Two fists are hard to fight eight hands. Ren Yue was quickly defeated and was held up by two men who pinned her arms, unable to break free no matter how she gritted her teeth and struggled.

The human-looking, dog-acting man lifted her chin, his other hand wiping away the blood at the corner of his mouth that she had beaten out. It seemed she had beaten him into a true fire12.

“I see you’re quite capable, but aren’t you still having to obediently watch me now?” As he spoke, his right hand, which had just wiped the blood, rose high, making a motion to slap her, but the palm was slow to fall. “I’ll give you three seconds. Obediently apologize to us brothers, and we’ll dote on you properly—such a tender little face, one slap and it’ll swell up, right?”

Ren Yue faced him with dead fish eyes13 and asked in a flat tone, “Excuse me, do you have some kind of disease?”

The man’s gaze turned cold. “Three—”

“Two—”

“Ah—!!”

Before “one” was even counted, a dagger suddenly pierced through his palm, the hilt pressed tightly against the back of his hand. Fresh blood flowed down his arm, the pain twisting his entire face.

Ren Yue was stunned. She looked up and behind her, only then discovering that Xiao Lou hadn’t left.

Her shoulder was leaning against the wall, her left arm crossed over her chest, her right hand playing with a dagger. The dagger spun between her fingers, the sharp blade a blur of afterimages, yet it didn’t harm her in the slightest.

The corners of her mouth lifted slightly, outlining a mocking arc. Her vermilion lips parted lightly as she let out a disdainful, soft humph. “Raising it so high, waiting for me to aim?”

As she spoke, she suddenly pinched the dagger’s sharp blade. In the next second, one became five, fanning out into a beautiful shape.

She raised her wrist, and the five daggers flew out in unison, burying themselves in the five men’s throats in the blink of an eye.

Everything happened within that one sentence. As her voice fell, the five men fell straight to the ground at the same time, so cool it was like they were filming a TV drama.

Ren Yue steadied herself, looking at the corpses lying all over the ground, the corner of her mouth twitching slightly.

She had wanted to stage a hero saves the beauty, but looking at the current situation—not being stabbed to death by Xiao Lou, her life was truly great.

Xiao Lou walked over unhurriedly, squatted down, and pulled the daggers from the five men’s necks. Hot blood sprayed out, dyeing the snow on the ground red, and also dyeing her hands red.

She nonchalantly unfolded a facial tissue, casually wiped her hands, and then began to wipe the daggers.

Ren Yue fell into silence.

Xiao Lou lifted her eyelids to glance at her. “Never seen someone kill before?”

Ren Yue’s face turned red. “Never seen one so handsome.”

Xiao Lou, who had intended to intimidate her with this: “…”

She let out a cold humph, turned her head, picked up the bag, and left.

Ren Yue took out her small knife and turned over the man she had knocked out. The knife roamed back and forth above his body, for a moment aiming at his throat, for a moment aiming at his □□, quite conflicted.

Xiao Lou had already walked some distance away. She no longer hesitated, directly plunging the small knife into the man’s throat, then grabbed the things and chased after her.

Fresh blood spread out from the deserted alley. People passing by walked past without a sideways glance, having long since seen strange things and no longer found them strange.

Ren Yue caught up with Xiao Lou, and they walked forward side by side.

The bloody water on Xiao Lou’s hands had frozen into ice. She took a pair of gloves out of her bag and handed them over. “Wear these, your hands will get chapped from the cold.”

Xiao Lou refused directly. “Thanks, no need.” Her tone was probably colder than the ice on her hands.

Ren Yue was helpless and could only quicken her pace, trying to get indoors sooner so Xiao Lou could warm up sooner.

The temperature rose immediately after they entered the building. Within a few minutes, the ice on Xiao Lou’s hands had melted into bloody water.

Several drowsy people were standing on the escalator, and no one cared at all why Xiao Lou had blood on her hands.

They took the escalator upstairs. Only when they reached the floor where the incident had occurred yesterday did they discover that this floor’s escalator was blocked by a rope.

Two people were also standing by the atrium railing, chatting idly about what happened on the escalator. Ren Yue overheard a bit. It turned out that from yesterday afternoon until now, five people had already perished on the escalator. The thing inside was quite fierce. Official personnel had come and walked around, attempting to communicate with it, but they failed, so they could only block the escalator with a rope.

Fortunately, situations of “ghost hits wall” rarely occurred in the corridors during the day, so the impact on the building’s residents wasn’t very significant.

“I was at the scene when it happened. In broad daylight, no one expected something like that to happen. It gave us a huge scare.”

“My family’s ancestors also seem to have become more active recently. They used to disappear as soon as the sun came up, but now they always dawdle and are unwilling to leave, I don’t know why…”

As they walked further away, the two people’s voices grew quieter and quieter, until they could no longer be heard at all.

Ren Yue lowered her head and climbed the stairs, lost in thought.

She had thought her situation was special, but it seemed everyone was experiencing this situation.

Yesterday, the thing in the mirror had even washed its face with her. This morning, the thing in the sink also left only after the sky was fully bright.

The ghosts’ resistance to sunlight seemed to be continuously strengthening. If things continued to develop this way, would they have to live in fear even during the daytime?

Was this also why Boss Huo wanted to go through the labyrinth to wander in the wilderness?

She thought about it for the time it took to climb one floor, and then she stopped thinking. After all, whether she would live to see that time was still an unknown. There was no need to worry about things so far away.

The two arrived home safely. Xiao Lou raised her hand and knocked on the door.

The door of the neighbor’s neighbor’s apartment silently opened a crack. An eye watched them silently through the crack, reminding her of the man who had been leaning against the door.

Boss Huo opened the door.

Ren Yue glanced sideways at the neighbor’s neighbor, then retracted her gaze and walked into her own home.

During the time they were out, the two big idlers left at home had consciously washed the dishes and mopped the floor, tidying the house until it was clean and new, saving her a lot of trouble.

She divided the items into five hiking bags. The lightest was left for Xiao Lou, next was for Boss Huo who was holding the child, and then for her and the Da xiongdi.

The Da xiongdi had no objections either. After all, Boss Huo had paid. He was tall and strong; it wasn’t as if he didn’t have this bit of strength.

The time gradually approached twelve o’clock. The four of them distributed the luggage. Ren Yue pulled down the main power switch in her home, took the key, and locked the door.

The neighbor’s main door was still open. That unsettling eye was still there, and it seemed as if it had never moved.

That man who was always thinking of screwing her over seemed to have met with an accident.

But this had nothing to do with her.

She pulled out the key and went downstairs with the others without any reluctance.

At eleven-fifty, the group stood by the roadside. Ba-ge’s bus slowly drove over and stopped at the agreed-upon place.

The group boarded the bus one after another.

Ba-ge first glanced at Xiao Lou, then looked at Ren Yue who was following closely behind her, and started winking and making faces at her.

Ren Yue gave him a big eye-roll in return.

To prevent her harassment, Xiao Lou specially chose a single seat, but Ren Yue was not affected in any way. She scampered into the seat behind Xiao Lou and stared at her back with all her might, like a pervert.

After everyone was seated, Ba-ge asked, “Are we still taking the old route?”

Ren Yue was concise and to the point. “Yes.”

Ba-ge closed the door and stepped on the accelerator. “Okay! This train is about to depart. Passengers, please fasten your seatbelts. We are now heading towards the edge of the city!”

Boss Huo carefully poked Ren Yue and asked in a small voice, “Is Ba-ge reliable?”

Ren Yue: “…Probably… I guess.”
