Volume 6: Days of Being Zapped in the Lab
Heart Stirring?
That dog c%nt Lou Jingmo
A hero saving a beauty has always been the easiest way to stir the heart—a beauty saving a beauty has the same effect.
Shen Maomao’s heart thumped wildly, like a little rabbit that had drunk too much was doing the Wild Wolf Disco1 on it. She wiped her blood-covered hands on her clothes, then took the hand Lou Jingmo extended and was pulled to her feet.
Lou Jingmo said calmly, “Are you alright?”
“Ah… I’m fine.” Shen Maomao felt a bit awkward, and her face flushed inexplicably, though in this pitch-black state, Lou Jingmo probably couldn’t see her expression. She swallowed, moistening her dry throat, but her voice was still a bit hoarse: “You… How did you get here?”
Lou Jingmo indeed couldn’t see clearly in the darkness, so her expression inevitably relaxed somewhat. She said with a smile, “If I didn’t come, should I have waited to collect your corpses?”
Shen Maomao stared blankly at the smile in her eyes, her face practically steaming. Fortunately, Little Ancestor tugged at her pant leg just in time, startling her out of that state. Pretending to be casual, she bent down to pick up the child, smacked her lips, and said, “It wasn’t that bad… By the way, Lou-jie, did you find anything?”
Lou Jingmo said, “Found an elevator card. We can go check out other floors.”
Shen Maomao immediately gave a thumbs-up: “Truly worthy of being Lou-jie! Something I searched for so long without finding, you got it as soon as you tried!2“
Lou Jingmo: “Cut the flattery3, let’s leave quickly. No telling if that thing will revive…”
This environment really wasn’t suitable for chatting. A centipede dies but never falls down4; although the big spider had stopped moving, the tentacles Lou Jingmo had severed were still wriggling there, looking rather disgusting.
The air was still filled with the stench of blood. It was only then that Shen Maomao belatedly realized—her fear, because of Lou Jingmo’s arrival, hadn’t even made a small splash before silently dissipating.
She acknowledged with a sound and walked forward side by side5 with Lou Jingmo, ready to see where the elevator could take them.
Shen Maomao had an indescribable feeling in her heart, like nervousness, yet also agitation, and a bit of embarrassment, to the point where she didn’t quite dare to turn her head to look at Lou Jingmo’s expression.
What’s wrong with you, Shen Maomao?!
Lou Jingmo is a girl! Although it’s true she likes the same sex, you’re straight!
But thinking of Lou Jingmo’s high-spirited6 expression just now, she silently blushed again.
So embarrassing! Lou-jie’s face isn’t even that good-looking, why would I be embarrassed?!
I’m straight I’m straight I’m straight…
Shen Maomao recited it silently in her heart three times, finally managing to more or less brainwash herself, and even quietly straightened her back a little.
She was straight! Totally! Feeling her heart stir when looking at Lou Jingmo was just appreciating pretty girls! That’s right! That’s just how it is!
Lou Jingmo reached out and pulled her. “What are you thinking about so intently?”
Shen Maomao snapped back to reality, only then realizing they had already reached the elevator. If Lou Jingmo hadn’t pulled her, she might have had intimate contact with the wall.
Shen Maomao smiled awkwardly. “I was thinking, is there a power outage everywhere here? How does the elevator still have light?”
Although she had zoned out, she could still see the red light on the elevator screen, proving that this elevator was stubbornly still operational and hadn’t gone on strike due to the power outage.
The number on the screen at this moment was 4. Besides that, there was a red triangular icon with a large exclamation mark inside, seemingly indicating the danger of the fifth floor.
Lou Jingmo said, “I’ve looked. There are two elevators in total on the fourth floor, located in different spots. It seems one only goes down, and one only goes up; they’re both one-way elevators with independent power supply systems. There don’t seem to be any stairs here. If the elevators malfunction, you can just wait for death.”
As she spoke, she took out the elevator card and gently swiped it across the display screen. With a “Beep,” a small down arrow appeared on the screen, and the elevator doors gently opened to both sides.
The reflective elevator car was empty. Lou Jingmo stepped inside first. Shen Maomao quickly pulled down Little Ancestor, who had climbed onto her head again, and followed her in.
The elevator doors slowly closed. The space inside the car was limited, and the distance between the two… seemed a bit too close.
The super straight girl Shen Maomao considered the problem of avoiding suspicion for the first time—as a straight girl, should she keep some distance from Lou Jingmo, this gay woman? But Lou Jingmo didn’t seem to mind. If she put on an expression like she cared a lot, wouldn’t that make her seem not very straight?
Shen Maomao was caught in a dilemma.
Beside her, Lou Jingmo was completely unaware of what she was struggling with and continued sharing her findings: “I looked around, seems like there are no lab personnel left in the entire laboratory.”
Shen Maomao came back to her senses: “Huh? Did they all retreat?”
Lou Jingmo nodded: “Perhaps. The test subjects lost control. They probably prepared to abandon us and take refuge elsewhere.”
Shen Maomao: “Such garbage.”
Lou Jingmo: “So I don’t know what kind of situation we’ll encounter after getting out. Be mentally prepared.”
Shen Maomao took a deep breath, eyes fixed on the elevator doors, braced for anything.
The feeling of weightlessness gradually disappeared. The elevator stopped smoothly, and the doors opened to both sides.
The first thing that assaulted their vision were the thousands upon thousands of eyes on the floor, ceiling, and walls, like stars hanging in the night sky, but far more terrifying. Those eyes also blinked like stars, clearly not just decorations.
From Shen Maomao’s perspective, she could also see things Lou Jingmo couldn’t—for example, the eyes on the ground weren’t growing out of the wall, but rather, the walls were plastered with faces identical to that face in the toilet.
She had a very bad impression of that thing, but the faces here weren’t just men, but also women, children, the elderly…
As soon as they appeared, all the eyes on those faces turned towards them, staring blankly right at them.
Shen Maomao’s legs felt a bit weak: “Lou-jie… are we still going out?”
Lou Jingmo said in a deep voice, “Go.” With that, she took the first step out of the elevator.
As one foot landed and the other lifted, a face at her landing spot split open its large mouth, seemingly preparing to swallow her whole.
The corner of Lou Jingmo’s mouth lifted. Her long leg stretched out, stepping right on its nose, making it stream two lines of tears, its features scrunching together. It looked like it hurt quite a bit.
Shen Maomao felt a little like laughing, but also felt it wasn’t quite right to laugh in this situation.
Lou Jingmo seemed to think of something and suddenly turned back to her, saying, “Shen Maomao, look at my eyes.”
Shen Maomao froze.
She hadn’t dared to look at Lou Jingmo just now. Only when Lou Jingmo mentioned it did she realize—Lou Jingmo’s eyes had turned a translucent red. No wonder she could accurately step on that face’s nose earlier; turned out she also possessed night vision ability.
She didn’t know what her own eyes looked like, but figured they couldn’t be more captivating than Lou Jingmo’s—because she felt like her soul was about to be sucked away by these red eyes.
Lou Jingmo clapped her hands in front of her face: “Snap out of it!7 I’m asking you something!”
Being gazed at by such beautiful eyes, Shen Maomao felt entirely light-headed, saying dazedly, “Ah… yes, they’ve turned red.”
Lou Jingmo said thoughtfully, “Looks like I’ve started mutating too.”
The moment she said mutation, Shen Maomao immediately sobered up.
That’s mutation!
Turning into something like Little Ancestor is okay, but turning into something like the big spider, or like these faces, you might as well be dead.
The two walked forward with their heads down, this foot stepping on a forehead, that foot stepping on a cheek. For a while, nothing unexpected happened.
Shen Maomao’s mind had already gone astray, completely unfocused on the game.
Her limited-capacity brain began considering the question of her sexual orientation for the first time.
Could it be she wasn’t shocked unjustly? Could it be she really has homosexual tendencies?
She started recalling these few worlds they had experienced together.
From the very beginning at the construction site, to the Monkey God, to the manor, to the school, to the funeral home, and finally adding this world…
Lou Jingmo had been really good to her, snatching her back from the Grim Reaper’s hands countless times.
Isn’t there an old saying, something like repaying a life-saving debt with one’s body…8
Thinking of this, Shen Maomao’s face turned red again.
Little Ancestor curiously looked at those faces, his little hands gripping Shen Maomao’s hair tightly, drool trickling down her forehead onto her face.
Shen Maomao suddenly jolted awake, crying out, “What the—! Baby, why are you drooling!”
She took the child down, disgustedly wiped her face with her hand: “Baby! You’re a big kid now! Big kids aren’t supposed to drool!”
Little Ancestor pointed at the faces on the ground and said innocently, “Ya ya!” as if saying, ‘It’s because they look so tasty that I drooled.’
Shen Maomao, Level 10 in Ya-language, hugged him close: “You can’t eat that, that’s dirty.”
Little Ancestor disappointedly gripped her clothes: “Ya ya…”
Shen Maomao thrust her face towards Lou Jingmo: “Lou-jie, quick, help me wipe it, I’m holding the kid and don’t have a free hand!”
Lou Jingmo expressionlessly pushed her face away using her other clean cheek: “Too dirty, stay away from me.”
Shen Maomao: “…” That dog c%nt Lou Jingmo. And she was still thinking about repaying with her body? Even if she offered, Lou Jingmo would probably reject her with disgust, right?
They hadn’t advanced far before the densely packed eyes became much fewer. Correspondingly, however, these faces had also undergone some kind of evolution. They were bigger than the faces near the elevator and could also move freely, often flashing under your feet without warning, then opening their mouths wide, waiting for someone to step down onto them.
An absent-minded Shen Maomao almost fell for it9 and was only saved because Lou Jingmo grabbed her. But the sole of her shoe had already been bitten off by that face. Now she could only tread on the floor barefoot, which was a bit freezing for her feet.
The eyeballs of the face-skins kept rolling around, following their direction of movement. After walking not long, the two arrived at a fork in the road.
“Ya ya!!” Just as they were hesitating which way to go, Little Ancestor suddenly climbed onto Shen Maomao’s head again, pointed in one direction, and cried out twice. His cries were very urgent, as if urging them to speed up.
