Substitute Alpha Gets Confessed to by Her Ex’s Aunt on a Survival Variety Show – Chapter 2

Your Girlfriend Gifted You Nothing But Fake Bags

The original novel didn’t describe Luo Ling’s family in much detail. It only briefly mentioned her mother and her aunt, Nan Huaixu—an accomplished actress known as the National Goddess, an omega, thirty-two years old this year.

The memories Liu Yinxi inherited were chaotic and vague, so she could only search for Nan Huaixu online. She learned that the Nan family was an old, well-established family with deep roots.

Born into a prestigious family, Nan Huaixu had been showered with praise from the moment she debuted. Yet, she didn’t have a hint of a princess’s temper. She was hands-on with everything, often forgoing a stunt double for dangerous scenes. Many of her works had won major awards both at home and abroad, and the characters she played were deeply memorable, especially the wartime heroine in the movie 《Jing Yun》.

However, Nan Huaixu had announced a temporary hiatus from acting three years ago. Rumors swirled about the reason for her withdrawal from the industry.

The most mainstream theory was that the Nan family had called her back to inherit the family business. Some gossipy marketing accounts1 speculated that she had gotten pregnant and was raising a child.

Liu Yinxi frowned in disgust at the gossip. These marketing accounts were truly filthy. Devoid of facts and morals, they dared to write anything to chase traffic. When would this kind of chaos ever be severely punished?!

Liu Yinxi took off the cat ear clips in her hair and sent Luo Ling a message, telling her the cold was better and that Nan Huaixu had come by to pick up a document.

She clicked into Luo Ling’s Moments to see if she could find a photo to recognize her, but Luo Ling’s posts were set to be visible for three days only,2 and there was nothing to see.

Fine. She would try looking again. It didn’t matter if she couldn’t find anything; they were bound to meet sooner or later.

Liu Yinxi checked the photo frames and keys on the entryway cabinet. They were all solo pictures of the original owner.

That makes sense, she thought. Luo Ling treated the original owner as a low-spec substitute, just something to look at to remember someone else. Why would she ever agree to take a photo together?

A bag of fever medicine and an ice pillow sat on the edge of the cabinet.

Liu Yinxi picked them up. They had been left by Nan Huaixu.

She thought for a moment, then sent a message to Luo Ling.

CICI: Darling~ Were you unable to come back, so you asked your aunt to buy medicine and visit me? Aww, I’m so touched, I love you so much[心]

This time, Luo Ling replied quickly.

Ling-bao: My aunt came to get a document. I told her you had a fever and couldn’t hear the doorbell, so I sent her a temporary passcode.

Ling-bao: You didn’t bother her, did you?

Sitting on the sofa, Liu Yinxi fiddled with a decorative object on the coffee table as she mulled it over. The original owner must have been a die-hard fan of Nan Huaixu, probably seizing every opportunity to bother her.

Luo Ling was asking if she had bothered Nan Huaixu.

What if she said that not only had she bothered her, but she had also tried to flirt with her?

She didn’t dare tell the truth.

CICI: Your aunt is so nice, she even brought me an ice pillow 0v0

CICI: Baby, when are you coming back? My little heart aches from missing you so much TuT

Ten minutes passed with no reply.

Liu Yinxi raised an eyebrow. This was exactly the effect she wanted.

A lightning-fast reply when her prestigious aunt was mentioned, but the moment “Liu Yinxi” started acting cute, the conversation was over. Hahaha~

Liu Yinxi scrolled through the original owner’s contact list, wanting to thank Nan Huaixu, but unfortunately, her number wasn’t there.

She logged out of the account and discovered the original owner had other side accounts. She logged in to check them. The friends on these accounts seemed very strange. She clicked into two of their profiles and saw a lot of posts promoting things like feng shui for good fortune—a small rose quartz basin for two hundred thousand, a peach blossom talisman for 9,999.

Unsure if the original owner’s debts were related to these, Liu Yinxi deleted them all.

After a few days of having transmigrated into the book, Liu Yinxi had gotten a good grasp of the original owner’s life.

The original owner didn’t have many friends. Her entire life revolved around Luo Ling; her hobbies were dressing up and handbags.

The original owner loved bags and had them from all the major brands, a full cabinet of them. Liu Yinxi figured she could get a lot of money for these.

She planned to sell them at second-hand luxury shops in other provinces. Since Luo Ling herself was a vintage dealer and the big boss in the local circle, selling them locally would quickly get back to Luo Ling’s ears. That would be beating the grass and startling the snake.3

The date on her phone: February 16th.

There were still over ten days until Luo Ling’s white moonlight4 returned.

The things Liu Yinxi listed on the Salted Fish app were good quality and reasonably priced, so they sold out quickly, earning her a small sum of money.

Of course, she didn’t touch any of the most conspicuous items in the house, lest Luo Ling return, discover them missing, and expose her.

Liu Yinxi couldn’t guarantee she would be chosen for 《Survivor 5》, but she never went into a battle unprepared. Every day, she stuck to the same physical training routine she had in the real world. During her breaks, she watched the entire 《Survivor》 series twice from the beginning, memorized the competition rules, and purchased suitable outdoor gear.

Even if she couldn’t participate in the competition as planned, she could still use the equipment she bought to go on expeditions and start a career from scratch as a self-media outdoor content creator.

To ensure fairness, 《Survivor》 would provide each guest with an identical, standard survival pack, so Liu Yinxi focused her purchases on outdoor clothing. Experience told her that seeing the items in person at a physical store and trying them on was more reliable than buying online, especially for life-saving supplies that required strict selection:

Quick-dry, antibacterial fiber sports bras and underwear.
Quick-dry, thermal functional base layers.
A rain-proof, wind-resistant, highly breathable shell jacket.
Waterproof shell cargo pants.
Cushioned, quick-dry hiking socks.
Waterproof hiking boots. Considering the original novel’s survival location was a tropical rainforest island, Liu Yinxi specifically chose mid-cut boots to prevent insect bites and cuts from sharp leaves.

All guest information for 《Survivor》 was kept confidential before filming. There were four omega and four alpha guests, paired up one-on-one.

The day before the competition began, the Competition Committee would assign numbers 1-8 to the eight guests, place the numbered balls into a lottery machine, and broadcast the group selection live online. The guests wouldn’t know who their teammates or opponents were until they were on the island.

But Liu Yinxi, having transmigrated into the book, knew all the guest information.

She believed that among the eight guests in the original book, only one alpha guest had the strength to compete with her. In the book, Luo Ling had won precisely because she was paired with this big shot guest.

Relying on the big shot guest, Luo Ling secured a safe shelter and plentiful food. She would secretly deliver supplies to her white moonlight while the big shot was out hunting. In the midst of hunger and cold, the white moonlight felt the light and warmth from Luo Ling and quickly fell for her.

This part of the original book’s plot had been endlessly criticized.

Right now, Liu Yinxi had no time to criticize Luo Ling’s love life. All her energy was focused on solving her first problem after transmigrating: survival.

Earn money, pay off debts.

Once this step was handled, she could plan her future work and life.

To this end, Liu Yinxi analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of all the guests, considering cooperation strategies for every possible team combination.

She and the big shot guest were both alphas, which inevitably made them competitors. This posed a challenge to her path to victory. The most ideal situation would be for her participation to replace that big shot guest.

But Liu Yinxi had been exploring nature since she was a child. In terms of comprehensive experience in geography, biology, herbal medicine, and handicrafts, she had the upper hand. So, no matter who she replaced on 《Survivor》 or who she was paired with, her confidence in winning remained unshaken.

On February 20th, Luo Ling returned.

Hearing the sound of the lock turning, Liu Yinxi went to the door to greet her. She saw a slender omega with doe eyes, cherry lips, and airy bangs, wearing a long, cream-colored dress.

Liu Yinxi didn’t dare to act cute right away. Only after confirming it was Luo Ling herself did she put on a cutesy voice and try to get close, only to be pushed away by Luo Ling, as expected.

Luo Ling said that various tasks were starting up again after the new year, so she was very busy and had no time to spend with her. She transferred fifty thousand yuan to her for living expenses and told her to be a good girl at home.

Liu Yinxi accepted the money and replied with a saccharine “Okay.” She fed Luo Ling fruit and even gave her a shoulder massage.

Luo Ling was surprised by Liu Yinxi’s attentiveness. “Is fifty thousand not enough? You want to buy another bag? Xixi, you already have more than enough bags. It’s not that I’m unwilling to buy them for you, but I work in second-hand luxury. You can pick whatever you want from the store, carry it for a bit, and then just put it back.”

She really knows how to be frugal, Liu Yinxi thought.

Unsure how the original owner would have responded, she answered vaguely, “I know~”

Luo Ling smiled faintly. “Be good. I’m going to Hong Kong (referred to by its poetic name Xiangjiang, ‘Fragrant Harbor’) on a business trip tomorrow. I’ll bring you back a gift when I return.”

Liu Yinxi exclaimed, “Ah! Another business trip? I don’t care, you have to stay with me! No work, stay with me, stay with me, stay with me!”

Luo Ling ruffled her hair. “Don’t throw a tantrum. Be good, okay?”

Liu Yinxi whined a couple more times for show, then went back to her room to play on her phone.

As a major trade port in the country, Hong Kong had a very developed second-hand luxury market. She had been planning to go to Hong Kong to sell the bags, but now that Luo Ling was also going, she had to change her destination to be safe.

The date on her phone: February 24th.

Less than two days until Luo Ling’s white moonlight returned.

Using the excuse of traveling to Sui City5, Liu Yinxi went to Shen City6 to sell the bags.

“Ma’am, was this really a gift from your girlfriend?”

At the Shen City Second-hand Luxury Goods Center, the appraiser deliberated for a long time before asking with a sympathetic expression.

“Yes,” Liu Yinxi confirmed.

In her inherited memories, most of those bags were gifts from Luo Ling to the original owner. Because Luo Ling was a vintage dealer and a professional appraiser herself, the original owner had never doubted their authenticity.

The appraiser, wearing gloves, checked them again with professional tools and shook his head. “I’m sorry, ma’am, but none of these bags are authentic. We can’t accept a single one.”

Liu Yinxi stammered, “None… none of them are authentic?”

The appraiser had seen this situation many times before. He sighed. “How about this, there are many other second-hand shops on this street. You can have another appraiser take a look.”

Liu Yinxi had considered that there might be some A-grade replicas,7 but she never expected a total wipeout.

Her entrepreneurial venture to sell bags had perished midway through its cause.8 Liu Yinxi was filled with ten thousand thoughts turned to ash.

Seeing how pale she was, the appraiser looked over the table of fake bags, picked up a small square one, and took out a jade plaque from inside.

“Ma’am, this Hetian qingshui peace plaque9 in your bag is real. Judging by its quality, it’s worth several thousand on the market. Our shop only accepts branded bags and jewelry, so this… I’m sorry.”

Liu Yinxi stared at the jade plaque, lost in thought for a moment before she found the memory associated with it.

Last year, Luo Ling had celebrated the original owner’s birthday at the Nan family’s vacation villa. They happened to run into Nan Huaixu, who gave it to the original owner as a last-minute birthday gift.

At the time, the original owner had disdained it for being cheap, saying she preferred imperial green jadeite.10

Liu Yinxi clenched her fist against her chest, holding the peace plaque tightly in her palm.

She walked out of the shop, dragging a suitcase full of A-grade replicas. Watching the traffic pass by on the street, a strange smile played on her lips.

A professional appraiser girlfriend had gifted her a cabinet full of fake bags, and the only genuine item came from Nan Huaixu, who was practically a stranger.

The light turned green, and Liu Yinxi stepped onto the crosswalk.

“Ms. Liu! Please wait a moment!”

Liu Yinxi turned around. The appraiser from the shop was running toward her, holding a small box. “This was left behind when I was looking at the jade plaque. Sorry, I forgot to give it to you.”

Liu Yinxi walked over and took the jewelry box. “It’s alright, thank you.”

BOOM!!!

A loud crash echoed from the intersection. Liu Yinxi and the appraiser looked over to see that a motorcycle had run a green light and collided with a turning taxi. Two pedestrians fainted on the spot.

Liu Yinxi’s eyes widened. She subconsciously looked down at the peace plaque in her hand and felt the jade warming faintly.

Wushi, wushi.

Peace and safety, year after year without worry.

The appraiser was amazed. “Ms. Liu, your peace plaque is really effective.”

Liu Yinxi stared at the peace plaque in her palm for a long, long time.

Before, she had never believed in prayers for blessings.

Her mom had gotten her so many safety talismans, but she had still been buried in an avalanche.

And yet, she had been given a new life in the world of a book.

Mom, Mommy, are you protecting me from the other side of the world?

Tears welled in Liu Yinxi’s eyes. She put the peace plaque around her neck and broke into a brilliant smile.

“Yeah, my jade is super effective!”

Back at the hotel, Liu Yinxi pondered for a bit. The fake bags shouldn’t go to waste either. She might as well recover blood11 however she could.

She opened the Salted Fish app and typed: Same style as XX, 90% new, selling cheap!

After taking photos and listing them, Liu Yinxi flopped onto the bed. Rubbing her stomach, she decided to find a good restaurant to soothe her soul.

There was a Black Pearl12 restaurant near the hotel that was currently celebrating its anniversary with a great deal on its set menu. That would be the one.

Liu Yinxi made a reservation in advance. Since she was alone, the restaurant seated her at a small table near the entrance.

As she sat in the corner watching the food delivery robots glide back and forth, she suddenly noticed that the door to a private room around the corner of the hallway had opened. A waiter was outside, checking the dishes on a robot’s tray.

Liu Yinxi had excellent eyesight and could clearly see the woman inside the private room from a distance.

She dialed a number. “Ling-bao, where are you?”

“Me? Didn’t I tell you I’m on a business trip in Hong Kong?”

“I know, I was just asking what you’re doing.”

“I’m talking business with a client. Okay, I have to go.”

The call was disconnected.

Inside the private room, Luo Ling was putting a diamond earring on a woman of ethereal, jade-like beauty, her eyes full of adoration.

A smirk touched Liu Yinxi’s lips. She raised her phone and took a picture of their intimate moment.
