I’m Not Going to Be the White Moonlight
“Do What You Want to Do.”
In the afternoon, the gradually westward-slanting sun cast a stifling shadow over the world.
The lake, as calm as a mirror, reflected a blinding light. Evaporating water vapor mixed into the wind, layering the air with dampness.
The plain white curtains billowed in the breeze, and the calls of cicadas rose and fell in succession. Other than that, there was no other sound from the center of the lake.
No one saw the figure on the bed, toes overlapping, knees touching, lying on her side.
Chi Qian was coaxed into a kiss by Shi Jinlan, her pale pink lips gently suckled.
Just as Shi Jinlan had said, after Shi Jinlan had lingered, caressed, and kissed her lips to her heart’s content, she familiarly opened her teeth for her.
That cool yet gentle fragrance was sent into her mouth. Following the push and hook of a tongue, it was swallowed down, bit by bit.
The entire room was silent, but the adjacent pillows clearly amplified the sound of a beating heart next to her ear.
Long, gentle breaths intertwined their scents, hooking one’s senses as searingly as a tongue of fire. A single kiss was enough to make one sink into oblivion.
But just at that moment, Chi Qian managed to pull a single thread of thought from the soldiers in turmoil and horses in chaos1 of her heartbeat and asked worriedly, “If we do this, does it still count as marry first, love later?”2
Shi Jinlan looked at the person before her, whose eyes were filled with rising desire yet also a flustered attempt to stop, and her own expression was calm. She unhurriedly kissed her again before asking, “Then have you figured out your answer?”
“I…” Chi Qian froze. She didn’t want to say something so dampening at a time like this, but she was clearly the one who had brought it up.
It was as if a program had run into a dead-end alley3. Chi Qian stared blankly at Shi Jinlan.
Her face was pressed sideways into the pillow, her squished cheek looking plump and soft. It was just a handful, and Shi Jinlan reached out, cupping it completely in her palm.
“Stupid cub,”4 Shi Jinlan said with a smile, chiding Chi Qian affectionately.
Yesterday, when she listened to Thirteen’s full confession, Shi Jinlan felt that this system wasn’t really some high-dimension creature5.
The person it had hand-picked and sent to her was someone with no acting skills whatsoever, left with only a sincere heart6.
Perhaps it was for that exact reason that she had let the system get its way and had been moved by a single thought.
Her heart and spirit both moved7. As she spoke, Shi Jinlan leaned in towards Chi Qian again.
The distance that had just separated them instantly became a negative number. Chi Qian whimpered as a tongue hooked past her pearly white teeth, seeming to hook her heart as well.
It was as if there was an apple tree in Chi Qian’s heart, or maybe an entire apple orchard.
It wasn’t even autumn yet, but the bright red apples hanging from the branches were already uncontrollably rolling down with a thump, and another thump.
The slope was long and gentle, and the tumbling apples formed an ocean of crimson. Waves rose and fell, and everywhere, the word ‘like’ was written.
She liked kissing Shi Jinlan.
She liked it so, so much.
It seemed Shi Jinlan was right. She must have kissed her very often in the past.
The summer fabric was so thin it made her clothes as light as a cicada’s wing8. As Chi Qian kissed Shi Jinlan, she subconsciously raised a hand to brush against her.
Her slender fingers only had to press a little closer to touch a handful of substantial softness. It rose and fell with each breath, filling her palm to the brim.
Shi Jinlan hadn’t expected Chi Qian to be so natural. She couldn’t hold back and let out a long, trembling breath.
The scorching exhalation was swallowed into Chi Qian’s mouth, a layer of desire scraping across her tongue, as if it wanted to pull them both down into the abyss.
Chi Qian’s heart stirred.
Suddenly, she didn’t want to sink into the abyss with Shi Jinlan; she wanted to go into Shi Jinlan.
The soft bedsheets rustled with a slow, rubbing sound as Chi Qian’s hand moved down Shi Jinlan’s arm.
It passed her knuckles, her waist, and finally stopped on the protruding bone of her hip.
A traveler on a flat plain had seen a lush tropical rainforest.
She stood at a distance from the forest entrance, hesitating, her dry fingertips wanting to go inside and experience the passion of a tropical climate.
And at that moment, the traveler was caught.
Shi Jinlan’s gaze was fixed on Chi Qian, her not-so-steady breath scorching the tip of her nose.
Around her neck was still the collar that declared her ownership. With a simple hook, she was pulled even closer.
Chi Qian thought Shi Jinlan wouldn’t allow her to switch their positions. After all, last time, she had been the one pressed down, on this very bed.
But for some reason, she just wanted to reverse the big dipper9 this one time.
Many times.
“Do what you want to do.”
Chi Qian was still thinking about how to rebel when Shi Jinlan’s other hand reached for the one resting on her hipbone.
Her slender fingers supported it, caressed it, and her neatly trimmed nails scraped an itch across Chi Qian’s palm.
This person had the noble and aloof appearance of one with a clear heart and few desires10, yet her narrowed eyes were no less bewitching than an enchantress.
That gentle voice drifted like rustling leaves into Chi Qian’s ear. Her breath hitched for a moment, and then blood rushed to her head.
Having plundered enough oxygen, Chi Qian took the initiative, brushing her hand across Shi Jinlan’s cheek and kissing her.
Her pecks fell like scattered stars, not exactly impatient, but not particularly meticulous either.
Chi Qian felt that she probably hadn’t been a very good kisser before and could only clumsily learn from Shi Jinlan.
“Mm.” Without warning, Shi Jinlan suddenly bit her own lip.
Shi Jinlan felt that, from a technical standpoint, Chi Qian really wasn’t a partner she could enjoy kissing. The girl’s kisses were always a mix of too light and too heavy, with no sense of rhythm.
But for some reason, whenever Shi Jinlan saw Chi Qian’s tongue peek out to please her, saw that gentle, clumsy appearance, her heart would itch. And so, her lips would meet hers in response, ready to be a sufficiently patient teacher.
There were many nerves in the fingertips, and Chi Qian’s fingers felt everything so clearly.
Perhaps because of that, she suddenly seemed to become proficient without a teacher11, gently kissing Shi Jinlan’s lips, and then her neck.
Her teeth, holding back their strength, gnawed on a collarbone radiating heat, and Shi Jinlan’s fingers clenched tight.
Along with them, the collar in her hand also tightened.
Her breath was abruptly cut off. The restraint pressed tightly across Chi Qian’s neck, as if reminding her who the master was.
But with a tilt of those long fingers, this master of hers bloomed like a flower in the hands of her slave.
The sun set earlier after the summer solstice. Its afterglow slanted across the lake and into the room, dyeing Shi Jinlan’s features red.
She had been delicately raised12 since she was a child and seemed unable to endure torment. Her eyes stared fixedly at the person kissing her below the neck, her focus slightly blurred.
Chi Qian’s palm rested gently against her, tirelessly cupping the soft mound.
It took a long time, but she finally stained the blandness between those eyes and brows with a richness that belonged only to her.
The plain white fabric was piled up, gathered around the purest of flowers.
Long hair, sticky with a thin sheen of sweat, clung to her forehead. Shi Jinlan trembled softly in Chi Qian’s palm, yet her eyes and brows still held their usual coldness and nobility.
Even her impassioned appearance was exceptionally elegant.
And cute.
Chi Qian watched Shi Jinlan gradually melt in her arms. She locked her in place, not moving a single thread, and couldn’t resist lifting her head to kiss the corner of Shi Jinlan’s eye. “Cute.”
“Ah Lan, why are you so cute?”
Hearing this, Shi Jinlan seemed to pull a thread of thought from her immersion, her pride struggling to surface. “Do you know you’re the only person who would ever say that to me?”
“Because they’re all afraid of you,” Chi Qian said, much more direct than she used to be.
“Aren’t you afraid of me too?” Shi Jinlan retorted, her finger still hooked in Chi Qian’s collar.
“Not right now.” Chi Qian was secure in the knowledge of having support13.
Her knees pressed against Shi Jinlan’s. A traveler’s desire to explore wouldn’t stop just because of a little rain in the jungle.
Shi Jinlan wanted to threaten her again, but she couldn’t get a single word out. She could only arch her neck, swallowing the sound in her throat.
Outside, it seemed the wind had picked up, and ripples spread across the lake’s surface.
Shi Jinlan pressed into Chi Qian’s palm, her breathy sounds alternating between heavy and light. Her weak protests were useless, and to Chi Qian’s ears, they were the most beautiful sound in the world.
No one would refuse to listen a little longer.
Or perhaps, a few more times.
The sun fell into the lake. The evening world was veiled in a misty sheen, quiet and serene.
The cicadas’ calls weakened, striking listlessly against the leaves in the woods, as if admitting defeat.
The light grew dim. By the afterglow from the window, Chi Qian looked down at Shi Jinlan, who was nestled in her arms.
The woman had barely changed from three years ago. She still had the same thin frame, her delicate collarbones forming a small hollow, pitted here and there with varying shades of crimson.
Even though she was the one responsible, Chi Qian’s face reddened at the sight.
She gently brushed aside the long hair at the back of Shi Jinlan’s neck, as if covering her ears while stealing a bell14 to hide the evidence of her crimes.
“Carry me to the bathroom.”
Seemingly having recovered some strength, Shi Jinlan leaned against Chi Qian and spoke softly to her.
Chi Qian felt like her own arms were about to give out after all that activity, and she hadn’t expected there to be cleanup duty. “Huh?”
“You made this mess. Aren’t you going to take responsibility?”
Shi Jinlan’s voice was soft as she raised her eyes.
Her dark pupils were coated with a layer of coldness, but beneath it was a lingering sentiment that had yet to fade. Her silent gaze instantly framed Chi Qian’s “Huh?” as the reaction of a scum woman15 who had eaten clean and wiped clean16, now unwilling to deal with the aftermath.
Of course, that wasn’t what Chi Qian meant. She blurted out an explanation, “I was just thinking about last time…”
Chi Qian had been about to say that last time, Shi Jinlan hadn’t made her carry her to the bathroom either, but then she realized their positions had been a little different last time, and she immediately stopped.
But it was too late.
Shi Jinlan had already heard her.
“Last time what?” Shi Jinlan raised an eyebrow unhurriedly, her fingers brushing against Chi Qian’s ear, as if kneading it. “Is Ah Qian referring to when I was drenched by a certain someone—mmph—”
Before she could finish, Chi Qian’s face turned red again.
She acted regardless of the consequences17 and lowered her head to block Shi Jinlan’s mouth.
The summer heat didn’t dissipate so easily. A single kiss was enough to set it ablaze again.
This child was indeed teachable18. After being pressed down and thoroughly kissed by Chi Qian for a while, Shi Jinlan’s breathing became even heavier than before.
Her chest rose and fell slightly. She looked up at the person above her, whose face was flushed and expression fierce, and told her, “You’re not allowed to talk about it.”
Shi Jinlan was a cunning merchant. Hearing this, she raised her arms to wrap them around Chi Qian’s neck, pressing her down as she rubbed a leg against her. “Carry me.”
The skin between her legs was cool after the sweat had evaporated, but it was immediately followed by a wave of heat.
Mist instantly billowed up. Caught off guard, Chi Qian’s taut nerves were jolted by a current of electricity.
She stared at the fawning19 Shi Jinlan and thought that if a heart-manipulating, bewitching demon20 truly existed in this world, it would have to be Shi Jinlan!
“Hold me tight.” As if she’d been instantly re-energized, Chi Qian hooked her arms under Shi Jinlan’s and lifted her from the bed in one smooth motion.
In the sunset, the bedsheet cascaded down Shi Jinlan’s body like the train of a skirt.
The midsummer sunlight, softened by the evening, filtered into the bedroom like gentle moonlight. Wrapped in the sheet with her long hair draped over her shoulders, Shi Jinlan looked like a beauty who had stepped out of a myth.
Chi Qian’s heart pounded violently.
Her gaze followed the flush at the corners of Shi Jinlan’s eyes downward, taking in her full, moist lips, and the kiss marks on her neck and collarbones that she herself had made.
Possessiveness flared, branding this moment into Chi Qian’s mind.
—Shi Jinlan belonged to her.
White steam filled the bathroom. The freshly drawn water submerged Shi Jinlan’s body.
The spacious bathtub was suddenly crowded once she sat down. Her long, well-proportioned legs were bent slightly, and her long arms draped over the edge. Her skin, like congealed fat21, was wet, and her black hair was drenched like ink.
As she gathered the bedsheet from the floor, Chi Qian’s fist suddenly clenched. She swallowed slowly, a clear act of restraint.
We’ve already done it once today. I shouldn’t tire Shi Jinlan out anymore. There’s always next time.
“The water temperature is perfect.” Shi Jinlan brushed back a lock of her long hair. Through the scattered strands, her crimson lips were half-visible.
Chi Qian’s heart stirred, as if a drop of condensed steam had just plopped onto it.
But just one kiss should be fine, right?
