Setting Up Stalls – Chapter 88

It’s the Last Day Again

This evening, Sun Miao went to deliver a meal to Su Ruixi, but she went to Su Ruixi’s company—because she was working overtime.

Yesterday’s leave wasn’t taken for nothing, and coupled with her low spirits these past two days leading to passive sabotage1 at work, it naturally made today even busier than usual. She had originally been thinking about going home to have dinner with Sun Miao, but the actual situation didn’t allow for it.

She really wanted to skip overtime, but her assistant stopped her: “Director Su, your friend…”

The moment the assistant spoke, Su Ruixi understood: She’s threatening me!

Su Ruixi had never been threatened like this in her entire life. The aura of an overbearing CEO was about to emerge, and her gaze became much more dangerous. But at this moment, she wasn’t quite able to intimidate her assistant anymore.

If one were to ask when Director Su’s intimidating presence had diminished so much2 in the assistant’s eyes, it would probably trace back to the first time they had beef pancakes, when Director Su snatched her beef pancake.

No, really, why would anyone be afraid of someone who would snatch their beef pancake to eat?

Adding to that a series of subsequent incidents, the assistant felt that Director Su was much easier to get along with than before. Being easier to get along with also meant she wasn’t as afraid of her. Director Su, as a person, was actually quite good. If she made a mistake, at most she would get a scolding and a smaller bonus, but Director Su would absolutely never do something like docking her salary.

Moreover, when she scolded people, she would cite classics and base it on the development of the matter3; the words she spoke didn’t have much attacking power, and she would never casually insult people.

She was absolutely not like those annoying bosses online who would open their mouths and say: “Are you a pig brain4?! You can’t even do such a small thing properly?!” At most, she would give people a cold stare.

In short, the assistant was no longer afraid of Su Ruixi.

“Director Su, even if you glare at me, you still have to finish the work. Otherwise, if you keep dragging it on day after day, night after night, the collaborators will all be gone by then.”

Su Ruixi was ultimately persuaded by her assistant… scratch that, by work. She could only call Sun Miao, and for a moment, she didn’t know how to begin, saying rather hesitantly, “Um… Sun Miao, don’t go to Cuitang Yayuan today, I’m not there…”

With just that one sentence, Sun Miao understood: “Are you working overtime today ma?”

Su Ruixi was silent for a moment, then softly replied with an “En.”

“Then I’ll deliver it to your company building ba. You can come get it. You can’t skip dinner, ah.”

Su Ruixi’s heart leaped a little, and the frustration from work suddenly eased: “Okay, thank you.”

In the evening, Sun Miao brought dinner over to Su Ruixi. They met at the back door; this time, they didn’t go down to the B1 parking lot. Sun Miao, still worried, asked, “Did you eat something else for lunch ma?” It wasn’t Sun Miao’s fault for being so uneasy; Su Ruixi really had too many prior offenses.

Su Ruixi nodded: “I ate. I added a bowl of noodles, ate them with dipping sauce.”

“…” How does that sound even more pitiful?

Sun Miao nodded, then remembered something: “It wasn’t instant noodles, ba?” Yesterday, when she went to Su Ruixi’s house, she had actually seen instant noodle packaging. Her mind was too muddled at that moment; only after returning home did it sink in5: She, someone having a stomach ailment flare-up, eating instant noodles?!

Su Ruixi also knew eating instant noodles wasn’t good and shook her head: “No, it was egg noodles. My assistant ordered them for me.”

Only then did Sun Miao feel a bit relieved.

The young couple reluctantly said goodbye for a while. Sun Miao prepared to leave, and Su Ruixi also had to go back up to work. Before leaving, Su Ruixi didn’t forget to remind Sun Miao: “Remember, ah, after this round of street vending ends, you have to move into my place.”

“Okay.” Sun Miao scratched her head, then parted ways with Su Ruixi.

When she got home, she also began to seriously handle the matter of moving. She found a moving and delivery app online in advance and then packed up all her things at home. Some professional machines didn’t need to be worried about because the system would directly reclaim them once the time was up.

When the items for the next selling period came out, different machines would be refreshed. Actually, Sun Miao was quite envious6 of these machines; they were truly good to use, much better than those on the market by an unknown margin. But the room she rented was, after all, relatively small and couldn’t fit many.

Sun Miao was already thinking, if she lived with Su Ruixi, she wondered if Su Ruixi could lend her an unused storage room to place these kitchen utensils.

But the most important thing was to first discuss it with the system: “Can you not take it away ma?”

【What?】

“These things,” she pointed to the rice milk machine7 provided by the system this time: “I feel this one is quite good to use. I haven’t tried others on the market; maybe they wouldn’t work.”

【If you want to keep it, then keep it.】

Sun Miao blinked. Her system was actually quite easy to talk to.

Isn’t it super great that it can be kept ma? In the future, she could make all sorts of food. Perfect!

Sun Miao was happy again, humming a song while packing her things. Her kitchen utensils… she should still take them ba. Although they might seem a bit shabby compared to those in Su Ruixi’s house, she was used to them after all.

As for clothes and such, she really didn’t have many. She had bought several of the same white T-shirts, both long-sleeved and short-sleeved, and also had many jeans of different colors and styles. Besides those, there were just two jackets and some pajamas and underwear. She truly didn’t have many clothes.

One reason was that she hadn’t been in this world for long and had to run her stall every day, so where would she find the time to buy so many things for herself? The other reason was—no money. Fortunately, there was convenient online shopping now, and things could be bought online; otherwise, she wouldn’t even have a few changes of clothes.

While Sun Miao was packing, a notification from “Express Delivery Xiao Xi” popped up on her phone. She went to the courier station8 to pick it up and found it was the fluorescent blackboard she had purchased on her first day of vending. Sun Miao tested it, felt the effect was quite good, so she directly wrote the price of the changfen on it and placed it on her food cart.

Next time she sold other food items, she could just write it down and hang it up. This way, there wouldn’t be situations where people, after curiously asking the price, felt it was too expensive and were too embarrassed to turn around and leave. Perhaps unfamiliar customers seeing the price would directly grumble to themselves9 in their hearts: How dare she sell something so expensive!

It would also save her from repeating it over and over.

Her things were mostly packed, and Sun Miao had also finished preparing the ingredients for the next day. She clapped her hands and couldn’t help but look forward to the scene of moving in with Su Ruixi after the last day ended.

It wasn’t her first time living with other girls; when she worked at a company before, she had rented a place nearby with colleagues. However, this was her first time living with her girlfriend! Just thinking of the word “girlfriend,” she couldn’t help but feel happy.

In the blink of an eye, it was the last day of selling changfen. Sun Miao took her fluorescent blackboard and set off directly on her electric scooter. She arrived at her previous stall location, and it wasn’t long before customers came. This time, even the Hip-hop Yabi duo didn’t forget to urge her: “Little Boss Sun, absolutely do not let the student faction into the group chat.”

“We can definitely snatch a spot, ah! We’d stay up all night without sleeping to come eat. But with so many people in the group, it would be really terrifying, ye! Boss, one group, one group is enough for us. If there are more, you won’t be able to manage, and how could you sell to all of them, ah.”

Because they tirelessly did psychological work on Sun Miao, she indeed didn’t feel too guilty. She just nodded in agreement and reassured them.

Even so, the regular customers still felt it wasn’t enough, one by one instructing her personally10: “Don’t tell them today is the last day either, otherwise they’ll definitely discover some fishy business!”

“Isn’t that a bit not good, ba?” Sun Miao genuinely felt this was a bit too much. The regular customers exchanged a glance, and seeing no other way, could only remind Sun Miao once more: “Then you remember, ah! Absolutely do not pull them into the group!”

The lemon tea boss listened from the side, secretly rejoicing that she had joined the group long ago. Otherwise, with them guarding it so strictly, she estimated they wouldn’t agree to let her in later. Moreover, she had to keep her mouth shut; if news were to slip out from her end, she would definitely be instigated by the regular customers to be kicked out of the group.

After Su Ruixi had also come and gone, and there was no one in front of Sun Miao, the lemon tea boss finally spoke: “Changfen Boss, you’re not setting up your stall here anymore, ah?”

“Yes, today is the last day.”

The lemon tea boss didn’t understand: “Why, ah? Isn’t it quite good here, ma? There are many people, sales are fast, and everyone really likes the changfen you make.”

Facing this question, Sun Miao also fell silent for a moment. She had actually thought about why the system did this, and only recently had she gradually figured it out—the system wanted more people to encounter more delicious food. If Sun Miao were to set up her stall in a fixed location, even if new customers emerged, overall, the clientele would be constant, just that one batch, and not so many new customers would join the group.

Wanting more people to eat more distinctive delicacies11 was perhaps the system’s wish, and also Sun Miao’s current wish.

So she answered the lemon tea boss: “Probably, I want more different people to eat the things I make, ba. Every time I see them smile because of the food I make, I become very happy. Although here, the students will also give me smiling feedback, I’m still a bit greedy and want to see more.”

The lemon tea boss gave her a thumbs-up. She then changed the subject, talking about the Chengguan12: “Actually, have you noticed that recently some stalls also set up after 9 o’clock, and the Chengguan haven’t chased them away.”

Sun Miao had noticed this, but she was too busy when vending here, so although she was a bit curious, she didn’t have time to ask. Now that the lemon tea boss brought it up, she followed up: “Yes, ah, I’m quite curious too, ne.”

The lemon tea boss smiled: “Because after everyone saw you, they realized it could be done this way. This area was originally designated by the officials for street vending, but all the permits had to be fully prepared. After you told me that day, I also went to get the permits.”

She took out a transparent box from under her small table, and inside were the permits she had obtained: “Dengdengdeng13, look.”

“So now the Chengguan won’t come to chase me away anymore, and I don’t have to get up so early in the morning.” The smile on her face was very happy: “Getting this was a bit troublesome, and I had to pay a processing fee, but it allows for extended hours, and I don’t have to worry about being chased around by the Chengguan.”

“Changfen Boss, the other people here also only knew to do these things after you reminded them.” Her voice was cheerful, but then she suddenly remembered something and it lowered: “However, there are also some people who are fishing in troubled waters14, clearly they haven’t gotten the permits…”
