Jinling Duck Blood Vermicelli Soup1
The assistant’s gaze was firmly locked onto the lunch bag Su Ruixi was carrying. Others didn’t know what it was, even discussing which brand’s new product it might be, unable to find it after looking around, speculating it might be a privately customized style.
But how could the assistant not know? That was clearly a lunch bag from Le Ke Le Ke, and one she had bought herself.
Recently, the frequency with which Su Ruixi carried this bag had noticeably increased. The assistant sensed something wasn’t quite right, and whenever Su Ruixi carried the bag, she inexplicably gave off a strong ‘sneaky vibe’2. The assistant didn’t say anything at first. Only after Su Ruixi had been in her own office for quite a while did the assistant pick up a document from her desk and also enter Su Ruixi’s office.
Only when the person inside told her to enter did the assistant push open the door, and then she saw Su Ruixi, indeed, sitting on the sofa eating lunch.
The assistant stared at this lunch for a moment, quickly connecting it to the lunch packed in a disposable container she had seen when Su Ruixi came to the company on May 1st.
She asked softly, “President Su, what are you eating?”
Su Ruixi choked slightly, replying just like last time: “Nothing.” From her words and actions, the assistant even detected a sense of… being protective of her food?
Surely not? A dignified Big Boss, a fuerdai3 with a profound background, wouldn’t be protective over such plain-looking4 food, right?
The assistant kept this question to herself. After confirming that Su Ruixi was indeed eating alone secretly, she took out the document, pretending she had a legitimate reason for coming in.
She handed over the document and walked out of the office.
The moment she stepped out the door, an idea suddenly struck her as if by inspiration5: Could President Su be… dating? Was that lunch from her partner?
But sometimes there were beef pancakes too, why was that? Was it because President Su’s partner also liked beef pancakes and brought them for her?
The assistant couldn’t figure it out, but felt that Su Ruixi’s behavior, nine times out of ten6, indicated she was dating. If this was the reason, then all the previous oddities could be explained. But then she thought again, trying to picture President Su’s bashful, girlish demeanor alongside a tall, handsome man whose face she couldn’t quite picture… she couldn’t reconcile the two.
She found it hard to imagine that scene, whether it was Su Ruixi acting shy, or another man standing shoulder-to-shoulder with her, or even putting an arm around her or similar intimate gestures. What she could more easily imagine was a man attempting to approach Su Ruixi, only to be repelled by a look from her like he was a bedbug, forcing him to raise his hands in surrender, signaling he had no intentions whatsoever.
The assistant felt healed by this new image. Now that was President Su.
A partner who was her equal7 was impossible; with Su Ruixi’s workaholic and ‘strong woman’8 personality, they would only fight until both sides suffered9. But if it were a weaker person, like a ‘little white flower’10 type clinging to Su Ruixi, or a ‘soft rice man’11, Su Ruixi definitely wouldn’t want them either. She disliked weaklings; the weak would only earn Su Ruixi’s contempt.
Thinking it over and over, the assistant couldn’t imagine what kind of man could possibly date Su Ruixi. In her perception, Su Ruixi was suited to being single forever, flying off into the sunset together with her work12.
“Definitely not dating. I was overthinking it.” The assistant tapped her own head, then returned to her workstation.
Regardless of Su Ruixi’s situation, Sun Miao, after resting for a day, was pulled into the System Space by the System the next day and began her studies.
The food she was learning this time was simple enough in theory, yet the System taught her the most complex version.
——Jinling Duck Blood Vermicelli Soup.

The System truly taught the most troublesome method, the kind where everything from simmering the broth13 to preparing the duck blood and duck parts, had to be done personally from scratch.
Most duck blood vermicelli soup on the market uses semi-finished products; the duck blood is certainly not self-made, just bought directly from the wet market. But for Sun Miao, the duck blood had to be made by herself, and even the vermicelli14 had to be hand-rolled.
Jinling Duck Blood Vermicelli Soup: from beginner to burial15.
The first thing Sun Miao had to learn was——slaughtering ducks. She spent a full three days just learning how to kill ducks. After mastering it, she could kill a duck with her eyes closed. Moreover, the ducks provided by the System were a huge pile, varying in age and size, and she also had to learn how to pick out the most suitable duck from the flock. If she picked the wrong one, she had to start all over again.
Three days passed, and she became as cold towards ducks as if she’d been killing fish at RT-Mart for ten years.
The good news was, she now knew how to kill any duck, and could even dismantle all their parts like Butcher Ding carving an ox16, without causing the duck the slightest bit of pain.
After killing the ducks came making the duck blood and processing the duck parts. Duck blood production primarily used the freezing method; with the System’s super-large capacity refrigerator, not using the freezing method would seem a bit foolish. Besides the duck blood, preparing the duck parts also required technique, especially kneading the duck intestines.
Sun Miao achieved the ‘Wash Duck Intestines with a Cold Face’ accomplishment. She felt her next step could be washing pig large intestines. In short, just this preparatory work took Sun Miao a month to learn. And it was non-stop; her body felt no fatigue in the System Space, only her mind felt exceptionally tired.
The System even comforted her: 【It’s okay/You won’t die】17. Of course, this ‘shì’ (die) was her own interpretation; the System definitely wouldn’t use that character, right?
Following that were another five months, during which Sun Miao continuously made duck blood vermicelli soup, also having to face random customers provided by the System. These customers were much harder to deal with than real people, all sorts of weirdos18, even including bastards who would flip tables at the slightest disagreement.
Sun Miao felt that, under the System’s training, she should be able to handle any kind of customer now.
The Jinling Duck Blood Vermicelli Soup taught by the System was somewhat different from the real-world version. Sun Miao had eaten duck blood vermicelli soup before; this world and the one before her transmigration were largely similar, with similar backgrounds, differing only in subtle ways. She hadn’t eaten it in this world, but she had eaten plenty in her past life. Duck blood vermicelli soup usually just contains some duck parts and fried tofu puffs19. But the version the System taught her added a green vegetable on top of this base——pea shoots20.
Speaking of which, May was indeed the time when pea shoots are most tender.
Sun Miao ate a bowl of the Jinling Duck Blood Vermicelli Soup she made herself in the System Space. After finishing, she was somewhat silent, it was so delicious. Especially the pea shoots; adding them was simply the masterstroke21.
Besides the duck blood vermicelli soup, the System also taught another duck-related food item——making prepared duck parts. Although it seemed a bit mismatched with the soup, it wasn’t wasteful. Otherwise, the duck intestines, liver, and blood were all used, but what about the other parts?
So the System directly taught her how to make prepared duck parts. It wasn’t too difficult, mainly involving marinating time and braising spices22. Sun Miao was a formidable person23 who had mastered the ultimate seasoning challenge of Malatang; mastering the control of each seasoning came easily, so making prepared duck parts was small potatoes24.
After learning everything, Sun Miao was kicked out of the System Space by the System. She took a look outside; her food cart had already been modified, transformed into one for making duck blood vermicelli soup. It looked somewhat similar in principle25 to the Malatang one, just without the large freezer.
There was still a freezer, just not as big, since the ingredients for duck blood vermicelli soup were fixed. And this time, there were a full four large funnels, meaning she could produce four servings of soup simultaneously.
The System had set up the environment perfectly for her; not putting it to good use now would be unjustifiable.
Sun Miao immediately hopped on her food cart and set off for the wet market. She first bought a large pile of seasonings, pea shoots, and other necessary side ingredients, only then going to buy ducks. For duck blood vermicelli soup, it’s best to use old ducks26 over a year old; alternatively, free-range ducks27 or water ducks28 are also acceptable.
This type of duck has plump meat, less fat, the best texture when eaten, and even the broth simmered from it is fragrant and clear.
Sun Miao needed many ducks because the yield of duck blood is very low. One duck can probably only produce about one bowl of duck blood, which is 300 to 500 grams. One serving of her soup uses about 100 grams, meaning one duck can only provide enough blood for 3 to 5 servings.
The real world wasn’t like the System Space, where ducks could be wasted freely.
However, Sun Miao had a little trick. She negotiated with the duck seller: she would help with the slaughtering, and all the duck blood would be given to her (for purchase). She also wanted to buy many duck parts, but the duck bodies could be left behind. Some restaurants actually have more need for the duck bodies, so after hearing her proposal, the boss agreed.
After all, having free labor, why not take advantage of it?29
The only problem was that the machine plucking and washing after bloodletting was a bit rough, but there was no helping it. She couldn’t possibly take all the ducks home!
Sun Miao bought three ducks, preparing to take them back to slaughter herself. After tying them up and placing them on the cart, Sun Miao took out the kitchen knife prepared by the System. A cold, merciless light flashed in her eyes as she looked at the boss: “I’m here.”
The boss swallowed hard, feeling that Sun Miao looked quite menacing30. At first, the boss had wondered if a young girl like Sun Miao could actually kill ducks, but seeing her now, it was clear she was a ruthless31 character.
Sun Miao placed the large basin she had prepared beforehand on the ground, added some fresh water and salt, then wielded the kitchen knife to pluck the feathers from the duck’s neck area. The boss watched her proficient stance with keen interest32, just as Sun Miao’s hand rose and fell, slicing open the duck’s neck. Her movements were swift and neat, not letting the duck feel any pain; it didn’t even manage a ‘quack’ before it went to heaven.
The boss couldn’t help but shrink his neck back, feeling a chill around his own neck.
Then Sun Miao began the bloodletting. Her eyes were serious, gazing at the large basin as if looking at her lover.
After the blood was drained from one duck, the second followed immediately. The boss automatically brought the next duck over to Sun Miao, watching her operate like a machine.
While Sun Miao was busy killing ducks, the boss didn’t stop either, feeding the ducks into the machine for plucking, then having his family members help remove the parts Sun Miao wanted.
After collecting the blood she needed, Sun Miao stood aside and waited. After a while, she received the items she had bought. She lifted the large basin into the food cart’s built-in freezer, placed the other items beside it, and drove off on her electric cart.
After returning home, Sun Miao first processed the duck blood. After confirming there were no issues, she picked up the kitchen knife and set to work on the remaining three ducks.
LP: The ducks’ sacrifices are not in vain, they’ll become delicious in Sun Miao’s hands!
