The Good Morning Kiss Before Work
“If I can’t eat the Malatang, beef pancakes, duck blood and vermicelli soup, changfen, crab shell yellow, small wontons, and lion’s heads made by Little Boss Sun anymore, I’m going to die! I’m really going to die!”
Hip-hop Mei was lazing around at Yabi Mei’s house. Yabi Mei wasn’t on the computer anymore either. Holding a lollipop in her mouth, she sat on the sofa, watching Hip-hop Mei twist into a maggot on her carpet.
At first, when Hip-hop Mei did this, Yabi Mei could still quietly use the computer, either playing games or handling some of her work. Later, when Hip-hop Mei did this, the sound of Yabi Mei typing on the computer was a pilipala1; she was pressing that keyboard so hard it was flying up, obviously very irritated. By now, Yabi Mei had already turned a blind eye to it2.
But the irritation was also genuine. It wasn’t just Hip-hop Mei who felt that not being able to eat was unbearable and that she was going to die; Yabi Mei had the same thought: When on earth can she come back?!
“Don’t you shout shout shout shout in my ear all day long. What’s the use of shouting at me? Go shout at Su-jiejie!”
Yabi Mei stuck out her little finger, picked her ear, and then acted as a military advisor3 for Hip-hop Mei, telling her to hurry up and call Su Ruixi. As long as they could get Su-jiejie to come back, then wouldn’t Little Boss Sun have to come back with her?
Hip-hop Mei was afraid of disturbing Little Boss Sun and then being put on the blacklist. Besides @-ing in the group chat and howling under her Circle of Friends posts, she didn’t even dare to send a private message, let alone do something like making a phone call to Little Boss Sun.
Hearing the idea from Yabi Mei, Hip-hop Mei suddenly did a carp straightening up4 from the floor: “Right! Call Su-jiejie, how did I not think of that!” She immediately and enthusiastically dialed Su Ruixi’s number, only to find that the other end was just ringing continuously.
As Hip-hop Mei was preparing to dial her tenth call, Yabi Mei stopped her: “Stop calling. Can’t you tell? Your phone number has already been blacklisted by Su-jiejie!”
Hip-hop Mei was shocked. She was stunned for a moment, then asked with a long face: “Why?”
“…”
Of course, it’s because she was annoyed that Hip-hop Mei would call and disturb her honeymoon, so she blacklisted this potential annoying pest5 one step ahead of time. Only after she gets back will she grant a favor and let Hip-hop Mei out.
Yabi Mei had already seen through the truth and only felt that Hip-hop Mei was truly useless, unable to even make a phone call. She rolled her eyes6: “There’s nothing to be done. Let’s just wait, I guess. The plum rain season doesn’t have many days left. They’ll definitely have to come back.”
Among those bitterly waiting for the plum rain weather to end, besides the old customers, there was one other person: Su Ruixi’s biological mother—Ms. Shen Yiqiu. She very much disliked the plum rain weather. For the past few days, the rain had been falling continuously, not stopping at all. The evening before last, it was rarely a bit sunny. After dinner, she even went for a short walk, but not long after, it started raining again.
Just like the rainy weather, her mood was also not too wonderful. Because—there was no yangyu potato cake to eat.
She only found out during a chance chat with a staff member from the research institute that the yangyu potato cake stall actually had a group chat. She couldn’t wait to have someone pull her into it. After seeing the active Hip-hop Mei, she fell into silence.
At this moment, a seed of suspicion sprouted in Shen Yiqiu’s heart: This Little Boss Sun, couldn’t be my own daughter’s partner, right? When I asked before, my daughter secretly glossed over it. Maybe she didn’t want me to know Little Boss Sun’s identity, so that the two of them could build up good feelings for each other without knowing the connection?
One could only say that Shen Yiqiu was truly worthy of being Su Ruixi’s biological mother; she understood Su Ruixi very well.
Unfortunately, however, Shen Yiqiu scrolled up and down through the group and only saw those two acquaintances, Hip-hop and Yabi. She couldn’t find her own daughter’s account at all. In other words—Su Ruixi was not in this group at all.
This was very strange.
Su Ruixi had a very strong sense of possessiveness over her own things.
When she was in elementary school, she had an extracurricular assignment to plant a small tree sapling. Su Ruixi especially treasured the little sapling she brought home. She wouldn’t let anyone touch it and would just single-mindedly squat beside it every day after school, holding a notebook to record the little sapling’s changes each day.
From this point, one could get a glimpse of Su Ruixi’s possessiveness7.
What’s more, her girlfriend was a person—one with legs, who could run! In this situation, how could Su Ruixi possibly not join the group and keep the person watched firmly under her own eyelids!
Shen Yiqiu really did understand Su Ruixi very well. The truth was indeed like this; at every turn, she would switch to her side account8 to observe Sun Miao’s customer group. If Hip-hop Mei said something she shouldn’t have, she would even secretly note it down in a little notebook.
With her possessiveness, it was impossible for her not to observe Sun Miao.
However, Shen Yiqiu’s understanding of Su Ruixi was not deep enough to the point where she could guess that Su Ruixi had opened a side account and was lurking in Sun Miao’s group.
So after looking around and finding no trace of Su Ruixi, she began to reflect: Did I think too much? Did I think too badly of Xixi? How could a daughter screw over9 her own biological mother like this?
After Shen Yiqiu decided that this wasn’t the case, she continued to look on with longing: When on earth is this Little Boss Sun coming back?
She looked longingly at the rain in the sky, which fell ceaselessly as if it were falling to the bottom of her heart, dididada10, stirring up ripples. In her entire life, she had never been so pulled by the intestines and hung by the stomach11 for a person like this, not even for her daughter Xixi.
The main reason was that Su Ruixi had never gone away for school; she studied right at their doorstep. After finishing her studies, she directly took the pocket money she had saved for many years and used it as start-up capital to open a company. On normal days, they could occasionally see each other, and she also knew her daughter had an independent and self-reliant personality. She missed her, yes, but it really wasn’t to the point of a “pulled by the intestines and hung by the stomach” kind of missing.
“Sigh.”
After finishing dinner and staying in the study for a while, Shen Yiqiu looked at the raindrops falling outside and couldn’t help but sigh. Just then, Father Su came up and asked what was wrong with her. As a result, the more Shen Yiqiu looked at Father Su, the angrier she became. She rolled her eyes and ignored him.
She just turned and instructed the Auntie: “Are there any of the small wontons Xixi brought last time left? I didn’t eat enough for dinner, cook some more for me.”
Only the remaining chicken soup small wontons could offer some comfort to her heart, but of all people, Father Su just had to fight with her for them. So Shen Yiqiu added: “Hide the rest well, and don’t let anyone else eat them.”
Fortunately, the plum rain season was finally about to end. Sun Miao and Su Ruixi’s plane tickets had been booked in advance for the afternoon of Wednesday, July 5th, still with Lu Airlines. This time, Sun Miao was much calmer on the plane than she had been the first time; she didn’t even have ringing in her ears.
However, Su Ruixi still held Sun Miao’s hand tightly, afraid that she would be anxious and uneasy again.
Lu Airlines was fast; they actually arrived half an hour earlier than scheduled. That night, the two of them just nestled at home and had a simple meal. Sun Miao cooked some tomato and egg drop noodles. Outside, it was still raining. Raindrops hung on the window, falling down bit by bit.
Su Ruixi was still a little dissatisfied about coming back so early: “I told you it was still raining, that it wouldn’t end so quickly.”
Sun Miao answered, “The weather forecast said it will end tomorrow.”
“Weather forecasts aren’t always accurate.”
The weather forecast isn’t very accurate, but the system is, the system snorted, and also reminded Sun Miao that she would rest on the 6th and 7th, and on the 8th, Saturday, she would have to start setting up her stall again. But there was no need to be stubborn with Su Ruixi. Once the rain stopped tomorrow, even if Su Ruixi wasn’t happy about it, she could only accept it.
Su Ruixi was actually a very self-disciplined person. Although she had been unhappy the day before, she got up bright and early on the morning of the 6th, yawning as she prepared to go to work. Sun Miao, considerate of the fact that it was Su Ruixi’s first day of work after a long vacation, also climbed out of bed.
“You don’t need to get up so early. Sleep a little longer. Aren’t you going to set up your stall after resting for two days?”
“It’s fine. After you leave in a bit, I’ll catch up on my sleep.”
Su Ruixi nodded. While she was upstairs putting on makeup, Sun Miao went downstairs to cook small wontons. Su Ruixi was quite fast with her makeup. She didn’t put on a full face, just some light makeup to enhance her complexion and lip color was enough. She didn’t bother with things like false eyelashes.
Sun Miao also felt it was unnecessary. Su Ruixi’s eyelashes were already very thick and curled up; they looked good even without mascara, so where was the need for false eyelashes?
She ate breakfast together with Su Ruixi and also saw her out. Su Ruixi specifically instructed, “You don’t need to bring me lunch. Just get some proper rest yourself.”
“If I can get up, I’ll make it and bring it over for you. If I can’t get up, then forget it.”
Su Ruixi nodded, feeling that this was how it should be.
However, the two of them had been inseparable like body and shadow12 during this time, together almost 24 hours a day. Suddenly having to leave Sun Miao, Su Ruixi was actually a little reluctant. She picked up her handbag, ready to leave, and had already walked to the garage when she turned around again, stepping up the stairs dadada13 to get close to Sun Miao.
A thread of confusion appeared on Sun Miao’s face. She was about to ask if Su Ruixi had forgotten something and offer to get it for her. But before she could speak, she saw Su Ruixi move closer with her eyes closed.
The two of them had been dating for so long; if Sun Miao didn’t know what this action from Su Ruixi meant, she might as well just return to the furnace and be remade14.
Sun Miao very consciously reached out and wrapped her arms around Su Ruixi’s waist, feeling her weight press against her. Immediately after, a faint, elegant fragrance wafted over, and Su Ruixi’s soft lips pressed against Sun Miao’s.
There really wasn’t much time before going to work in the morning. The two of them kissed for a moment and then separated15. Su Ruixi touched her lips and then said, “The good morning kiss before work. I’m leaving.”
“Okay, add oil16 at work.”
Sun Miao watched Su Ruixi go. When she reached the car, before opening the door, she blew Sun Miao a kiss. Seeing this little gesture, Sun Miao immediately laughed. Then she held out both hands as if catching something, clasped them tightly, and pulled them back to rest in front of her heart.
Then she acted as if she had been struck by the heart, staggering a little.
Seeing her actions, Su Ruixi was also very happy. “Really leaving now.”
“Mhm~”
This time, Su Ruixi really started the engine and drove off. Watching the car disappear from the garage, Sun Miao pressed the button for the gate. After the gate came down, she went back inside. She didn’t go back to sleep. Instead, after tidying up the dining room, she went to change her clothes, and then immediately drove her little electric scooter kengchikengchi17 out to buy groceries.
To be honest, with Su Ruixi’s reluctant-to-part expression and actions that morning, unless one were a rock, how could one possibly remain unmoved?
Even though Su Ruixi had emphasized not to bring her lunch, she still wanted to see her at noon, even if it was just to talk.
The person who was a little unaccustomed to the sudden separation after such a long time of sticking18 wasn’t just Su Ruixi; Sun Miao was the same.
