To Be Thrown Away
In terms of the ability to bluff others, Sun Miao was quite strong. These few students from the student party were talked to by Sun Miao until they couldn’t find north1. After a while, filled with the determination, “Next time, I will definitely drag out the boss of this Miao Miao’s Mobile Food Bar!”, they left.
After a while, another wave of students came. This time, Sun Miao didn’t even need to step in. It was likely the previous group had posted in their group chat. They came over without saying anything about joining a group, just dropping a “Boss, you just wait!” before there was no further development.
Sun Miao’s conscience felt a little uneasy. They had really helped her, causing her to sell out all her zongzi before it was even noon. At this rate, she would probably be able to close up shop early tomorrow as well.
Sun Miao posted a message in the group chat announcing she was sold out, and also mentioned that she had been discovered by the students. In that instant, the group chat was immediately filled with voices of complaint filling the roads2:
【No! Being discovered by the students, this kind of thing, really, no!】
【It’s over. No wonder you closed up so early today. I was planning to find time to go buy some at noon, now there’s no hope at all.】
【How early will I have to get up tomorrow to be able to buy zongzi before the students?!】
Of course, there were also some who had joined recently and didn’t understand how terrifying the students were:
【Is it that serious? It’s just a group of students. Look how scared you all are. 200 zongzi, can they really buy them all in a second3?!】
For this kind of disbeliever, reality would soon teach them a lesson.
Sun Miao, however, ignored the ghosts crying and wolves howling4 in the group chat. The most important thing now was——to prepare tonight’s candlelight dinner, and also to get the zongzi ready for tomorrow’s sale and for Su Rixi’s parents.
She moved quickly today. Since she still had enough rouzhu leaves from yesterday, Sun Miao went straight to the wet market and bought everything she needed. After getting home, she started preparing dinner, and the first thing on her list was the milk tea she had been thinking about for a while.
Cooking the pearls5 was too slow and required a lot of technique. Sun Miao had only watched some half-baked tutorials online, and while she could make something that looked the part, it was still far from perfect. It would be much better if the system taught her how to make them in the future, and then she could make them for Su Rixi.
The coconut jelly6 was much less fussy and very simple to make. First, she cracked open a coconut, chopping it with a knife and then prying it open with the back of the blade until the entire shell was removed. She poured out the coconut water, filtered it through a mesh sieve, and set it aside. Then, she used a spoon to scoop out all the coconut meat.
She blended the meat and water in a wall-breaking machine7 and filtered out the residue again. Afterward, she put the mixture in a pot, added sugar, and let it simmer on low heat. At the same time, she added white grass jelly powder8, stirring until it solidified. Once cooked, she poured it into a container and put it in the freezer. When it was completely set, she could take it out and cut it into whatever size she wanted. It was absolutely jiggly and especially springy.
Next was brewing the milk tea. She found some black tea at Su Rixi’s small bar counter. Sun Miao didn’t really know the price of tea leaves, but she could tell good quality from bad. This aroma, this texture—it definitely wasn’t cheap. But Su Rixi didn’t care about the price at all and had told her before to feel free to brew some whenever she wanted a drink. Especially these past two days when she had to get up so early to make zongzi, drinking some tea could help her feel refreshed and alert.
Sun Miao finished brewing the milk tea and waited for it to cool down before putting it in the refrigerator; it would taste even better chilled. Dinner was made, and the zongzi were wrapped. Humming a little tune, Sun Miao waited for Su Rixi to come home.
That evening, Su Rixi returned right on time. As soon as she entered the house, she saw that Sun Miao was dressed very differently. Usually, she wore a simple white T-shirt and jeans for ease of movement, with her hair tied in a simple ponytail. But today, Sun Miao was different. She was wearing a dress.
It wasn’t a very fancy dress, just a simple white one with a pattern of small blue and white flowers printed along the hem. Her hair was tied up in a sock bun9, making her look even younger. She was already at a flower-like age, and dressing up made her original fresh feeling of a refined girl from a humble family10 even more apparent, like a flower blooming towards the sun.
“Susu-jie, come here.”
Su Rixi had been dizzy and disoriented all day because of that little booklet. Now, being led forward by the hand by Sun Miao, she felt even more lost. By the time she came to her senses, her coat was off, her bag was put down, her shoes were changed, and she was sitting directly across from Sun Miao.
Just as she collected herself, she saw Sun Miao turn and go to the small refrigerator by the bar, taking out two glasses. Holding one in each hand, she walked over to Su Rixi. The glasses even had straws placed in them, a bit theatrically.
Looking at the color, Su Rixi guessed: it must be milk tea. She didn’t like to drink things with artificial flavoring, but this was made by Sun Miao, so she could look forward to it.
“Susu-jie, let’s eat.”
Su Rixi reached out, “En,” she murmured, taking the milk tea and sipping it through the straw. It was, surprisingly, very good. This was mainly because Sun Miao knew Su Rixi’s tastes, so the amount of sugar was perfectly precise. The milk tea, with its tea flavor and light sweetness, was truly something Su Rixi wished to stop but could not11. Especially after just driving back, her mouth was a little dry, and this sip of milk tea soothed her parched throat. She took several sips before letting go of the straw.
Su Rixi had always loved Sun Miao’s cooking and always enjoyed it immensely. But there were times when she was absent-minded, like today. Su Rixi’s mind was completely overwhelmed by what was about to happen, and her thoughts were a jumbled mess.
Especially when she looked at Sun Miao, her gaze would unconsciously fall upon Sun Miao’s hands. Sun Miao’s hands were truly beautiful. Her fingers were long and slender. Although they were a bit rough, many days of skincare had made them much better than before. Her skin wasn’t particularly fair, but it wasn’t dark either; it was just the right, very healthy color.
Su Rixi’s home used black chopsticks, and by contrast, they made Sun Miao’s hands look much fairer. Most importantly, her knuckles were very distinct. Even the veins were clearly visible under the light. If you looked closely, the blue veins on her hands were also faintly visible. Her hands were relatively broad, perhaps for this reason it was easier for her to exert force when making pastries; but they didn’t look like a man’s hands. The soft lines of her hands made them instantly recognizable as a girl’s. A pair of hands like these, if photographed for a cover, would surely attract many clicks.
That little booklet said… you were supposed to put the finger cot12, put the finger cot directly on the finger, and then… cough.
Su Rixi felt extremely guilty. How could she be thinking about these things while eating? But she just couldn’t control herself, her thoughts kept wandering. After they finished eating, Su Rixi was about to go do the dishes, but Sun Miao stopped her.
“Susu-jie, tonight, let’s not do the dishes, okay? Just leave them in the sink, I’ll wash them tomorrow.”
Su Rixi murmured a quiet “en,” and started to get nervous again. Now they weren’t even doing the dishes. What was next? Were they going to… just do that kind of thing?
As it turned out, Su Rixi wasn’t wrong, because Sun Miao didn’t have much time tonight. She still had to deal with the zongzi later, and she had to wake up early tomorrow morning to cook them. Where was the time to waste? Logically, they should have done something first, like watch some TV to relax, but Sun Miao, right now, was truly in a hurry. Everything was ready, only lacking the east wind13. Anyone who had the patience to wait at a time like this was truly a ninja.
Su Rixi’s face flushed red. She understood Sun Miao’s meaning and said hesitantly, “Then… I’ll go take a shower.”
Su Rixi went upstairs to shower first. Sun Miao tidied up a bit downstairs. Although the bowls could be left for tomorrow, the table couldn’t be a complete mess. By the time she finished cleaning and went upstairs, the sound of Su Rixi showering could be heard from the bathroom.
Sun Miao changed into her pajamas and sat obediently on Su Rixi’s bed. When the person emerged, she reached her hand out towards Su Rixi. Su Rixi was even bolder than Sun Miao. Originally, seeing how shy Su Rixi was, Sun Miao had thought a lot of preparation would be needed, but Su Rixi came out wrapped only in a bath towel.
Her hair, half-dry, draped over her body with the ends still damp. Due to the bath, her face was flushed red. Seeing Su Rixi so nervous, Sun Miao, in turn, became less nervous.
Sun Miao stood up and walked over. Su Rixi looked at her. As they drew close, it was unclear who moved first. In short, they naturally stuck together. When they finally separated, Su Rixi’s eyes were watery and exceptionally captivating.
If Sun Miao were to hesitate now, she could have her lesbian membership14 revoked.
She reached out, fumbled in the nightstand, and found the small object she had secretly hidden there beforehand.
The two of them seemed to have never discussed the matter of left-right positions15, but Su Rixi had already lain down, as if created by nature16. It was as if Su Rixi was born to be served by others. Even in her relationship with Sun Miao, it was always Sun Miao who cherished her and did everything possible to bring her pleasure.
Sun Miao truly did her utmost. She used all the knowledge in her head to devotedly serve Su Rixi. As Su Rixi’s pair of glistening eyes gazed at her, a wicked thought surged deep inside her: I want to make her cry, to make her shed tears because of me.
The consequence of this was that the next day, when Sun Miao got up to prepare the zongzi, Su Rixi whimpered twice, not even having the strength to turn over.
But Sun Miao felt that this matter couldn’t be blamed on her.
“It’s still early, Susu-jie. You keep sleeping.”
Even without Sun Miao saying so, Su Rixi would have kept sleeping. Seeing how tired she was, Sun Miao reached out and stroked Su Rixi’s hair before getting up and leaving her own room.
Yes, Sun Miao’s room. Last night, their room had become a complete mess. If they wanted to sleep, it would have to be tidied up first. Sun Miao had been the one giving all night, and after being busy for so long, she didn’t have much strength left either. She could only carry Su Rixi to her own room to sleep.
After leaving her room, she first went to Su Rixi’s room to clean up the bed they had ruined last night. The bedsheets and pillowcases were definitely not salvageable. Yesterday, Su Rixi had kept saying, “Don’t, it’s too dirty, it needs to be thrown away.” Her little mysophobia was flaring up at that moment.
Sun Miao had even been mischievous17 and asked her, “Where is it dirty?”
If she didn’t clean up now, and the auntie came to clean later and saw the traces they had left behind, the thin-skinned Su Rixi would probably die of shame. So, this kind of thing could only be taken care of by Sun Miao in advance.
