Let’s Sell Zongzi
By the time Sun Miao was pushed to the designated spot, her head was buzzing. Not only had the entrance to Yuanfu Lou turned into a vegetable market1, but the System was also screaming inside her head.
Her System was pretty good, except for when it had a motor mouth.
Sun Miao knocked on the table, the stainless steel surface ringing with a dong dong sound. “Everyone, stop for a moment. You need to line up. Once you’ve formed a line and made your purchases, I’ll leave.” As soon as Sun Miao’s voice fell, she heard someone chime in, “That’s right, line up!”
That voice sounds a little familiar.
Sun Miao looked toward the person. Holy cow, how could it not be familiar? It was Hip-hop Mei! Her head of red hair was exceptionally conspicuous in the crowd.
With someone backing her up, everyone, though reluctant, immediately began to form a line. Hip-hop Mei, with a nimble leap, shot to the front of the queue, not forgetting to pull Yabi Mei along with her.
Her speed was so fast it made Sun Miao’s head spin.
But someone in the crowd soon realized something was wrong and started howling, “I was the one who got here earlier! You’re not lining up in order at all! Let me go to the front!”
However, there were too many voices like this, to the point that no one was even listening to them. The Hip-hop and Yabi duo had clearly arrived later, but they stood in the line, as immovable as a mountain—no one was kicking them out of this queue!
Fortunately, everyone was still civilized. Even if their manners weren’t the best, they still had some. So, despite being very dissatisfied with their failure to get a good spot in line and pointing fingers at the group that had snatched the positions, they ultimately didn’t resort to violence.
This let Sun Miao breathe a sigh of relief. If it really came down to it, she could only resort to the ultimate technique of blacklisting them, then just randomly picking soldiers and generals2 who to sell to.
Soon, it was the Hip-hop and Yabi duo’s turn. As Sun Miao packed their food, she casually asked, “Weren’t you told not to come?” Sun Miao’s words were vague, and outsiders wouldn’t know what she meant, but the duo knew perfectly well.
“Isn’t it over now? If I didn’t come, I’d die from craving. I haven’t had Lion’s Head Meatballs with Crab Roe in six days! Six days! Little Boss Sun, do you have any idea how I’ve gotten through these past few days? I counted them off on my fingers, one by one. If I don’t get to eat Lion’s Head Meatballs with Crab Roe today, I don’t know what monkey-year-horse-month3 I’ll get to eat them again.”
Hip-hop Mei was rambling on, but Sun Miao estimated that with her intelligence, she couldn’t have come up with all this on her own. She handed the next portion to Yabi Mei, who was behind Hip-hop Mei. The latter was calm and composed, today wearing a faint gold-colored mascara—yep, this was eighty percent Yabi Mei’s idea.
These two were truly complementary: one had well-developed limbs and a simple mind, while the other had a well-developed mind and simple limbs. If it weren’t for Hip-hop Mei, Yabi Mei definitely wouldn’t have been able to snatch a spot at the front; if it weren’t for Yabi Mei, Hip-hop Mei would probably still be at home, gazing at the ocean and sighing4.
How wonderful.
Before long, Sun Miao had sold out all of today’s Lion’s Head Meatballs with Crab Roe and had also added some people to the group chat. Then, she said goodbye to everyone and took off on her electric three-wheeled food cart.
The group chat was constantly lively. Everyone had already started their old habit of guessing what she would sell next week.
【Speaking of which, isn’t the Dragon Boat Festival5 coming up soon? It happens to fall within the next stall cycle. Wouldn’t selling Zongzi6 be the most appropriate?】

【So will Little Boss Sun be selling sweet Zongzi or savory Zongzi?】
【Shut up! Don’t you dare start a war! P.S. As long as it’s made by Little Boss Sun, I’ll love it!】
【But I still prefer meat Zongzi…】
After the newcomers joined the group, the topic of conversation shifted to them. Although the newcomers were all exceptionally wealthy, because they had joined the group later than the seniors, they could only lower their stances one by one, experiencing the feeling of the group’s early, pioneering days.
【First, all newcomers must remember one point: the no-sharing-the-group contract!】
【Right, right, right, to translate, that means don’t share the group chat. Try your best not to add any more people! Look at our group, it’s already over five hundred people. With so many people fighting for Little Boss Sun’s food, how many bites can you get?】
【Also, you absolutely cannot reveal this to the student faction! There’s a group of students looking for Little Boss Sun like crazy! They’re thinking about invading our group every day! They absolutely must not find out!】
【Exactly, exactly. What would happen if that student faction found out? They’d turn our group into an education park sub-branch in minutes.】
Regarding this point, the newcomers had already fully understood, especially after having their own stall right next to Sun Miao’s but being completely unable to get in line themselves. They had a deep appreciation for the situation. Immediately, they all readily agreed.
Incidentally, someone also asked what Sun Miao would sell next week. With that, the topic in the group returned to where it started, with people continuing to pray for Zongzi.
When Sun Miao got home, she first tidied up a bit before going to her room to take a nap. Lying on her stomach on the bed, she looked at the group chat and felt a little curious herself, so she chatted with the System for a bit. “Will we be selling Zongzi next week?”
【Does the Host want to sell Zongzi?】
“Mhm, a little.” This is the first Dragon Boat Festival I’m spending with Su Ruixi. Wouldn’t it be even better if we had Zongzi I wrapped myself? Besides, during holidays and festivals, you should always give something to your elders, right? I don’t have any relatives myself, but Su Ruixi does.
Sun Miao didn’t want Su Ruixi to have a complete falling out with her family just because she was with her. From her tone, her family members weren’t the unreasonable type. If she got along with them well, she should be able to gain their approval, right?
At the very least, I can’t let Su Ruixi be deserted by all her friends and family.
Buying Zongzi from outside was indeed an option, but with the little money Sun Miao had, what kind of good Zongzi could she buy? They probably wouldn’t even spare them a glance. Now, she could indeed make them herself. With her skills and seasoning level, she could guarantee they’d be better than the ones from outside.
But compared to Zongzi made by a state-banquet-level7 master, there’s just no comparison… Su Ruixi’s parents must be very rich, too. I still want to make some Zongzi that will make them see me in a new light, to let them know that with their daughter together with me, she won’t be mistreated, at least when it comes to food.
The System had always been pretty good to Sun Miao. Except for when they were in the System space, it was almost always responsive to her requests. The System fell silent for a moment, doing who-knows-what. When it spoke again, it gave Sun Miao an affirmative answer: 【Host, you can.】
“Really?” Sun Miao bounced up from the bed in excitement. “What kind of filling will we make?”
【That’s a secret.】
Sun Miao smiled. The System was clearly being a little petty, but it had ultimately indulged her, so Sun Miao didn’t press any further. In any case, she would find out the day after tomorrow.
Sun Miao had a good sleep. When she woke up, she found that the house had already been cleaned by the auntie; even the bag in the living room trash can had been replaced. She left a note on the living room coffee table: Miss Sun, I’ve cleaned the whole house. I didn’t go into your room because it was locked. As per your request, I’ve bought groceries and put them in the fridge.
This way, it was convenient for her not to have to go out. Sun Miao simply curled up on the sofa, turned on the TV for background noise, and, with her phone in hand, opened the spreadsheet Su Ruixi had specially made for her to fill in today’s earnings.
Actually, there were some dedicated bookkeeping apps online, some of which could even automatically record expenses from payment software. It was just that their functions were rather average, and slightly more useful features required payment. As someone who was frugal to the bone, how could Sun Miao possibly fork over money for a bookkeeping app!
Besides, the spreadsheet Su Ruixi had made for her was also very good. Its functions were simple yet powerful; as long as she filled in the corresponding data in order, it would calculate automatically.
Most importantly, this was something Su Ruixi had made for her.
Sun Miao’s heart was bubbling with delight. After finishing her bookkeeping, she started preparing dinner. She made quite a sumptuous meal today, and Su Ruixi was surprised when she returned. At the dinner table, the two of them ate while chatting.
Su Ruixi had quite a few things to talk about today, even chatting with Sun Miao about the tasks she had instructed her assistant to do. After hearing it, Sun Miao couldn’t help but give Su Ruixi a thumbs-up.
Seeing Sun Miao’s gesture, Su Ruixi couldn’t stop the corners of her mouth from turning up, yet she still had to feign nonchalance. “It was nothing, just some small things.”
But humanistic care for employees is accumulated through these small things. Sun Miao immediately shook her head. “It’s not a small thing. Besides, it’s these little things, bit by bit, that give the employees a better working environment, especially the female employees. I think they will all really like Susu-jie’s company.”
“But Susu-jie, will you be okay doing this? Won’t your boss say something to you?”
Sun Miao’s words stunned Su Ruixi for a moment. She belatedly understood the meaning behind Sun Miao’s sentence. It seemed she was worried… that she would be given trouble by her own company’s boss. The wording was a bit awkward, but essentially, Sun Miao thought she was an ordinary high-level executive who had decision-making power over the company’s development but was still constrained by the boss above her.
Su Ruixi couldn’t help but laugh. “It’s fine. I am the boss.”
Sun Miao was, as expected, astonished. “Ah… so that’s how it is.”
Su Ruixi’s smile wasn’t one of mockery, but rather because she found Sun Miao’s dazed and confused look very cute, and she also found the Sun Miao who was worried about her getting in trouble with her boss very cute, which was why she couldn’t help but laugh. Sun Miao, however, felt a little awkward, feeling like a little fool.
Usually, the one who acted like a little fool at home was Su Ruixi—not knowing this, not understanding that, a true young lady of a wealthy family who really didn’t understand anything. But today, the one revealing her little-fool side was Sun Miao, which made Su Ruixi feel very happy.
After they finished dinner, they cleaned up and watched TV as usual. When it was time to sleep, Sun Miao went to Su Ruixi’s master bedroom, ready to sleep together. Su Ruixi was still wearing the same Strawberry Bear pajamas as Sun Miao, which made Sun Miao feel extremely satisfied.
Su Ruixi looked quite good in Strawberry Bear pajamas, too. The cuteness of the clothes diluted Su Ruixi’s usual authoritativeness and coldness, especially when Su Ruixi leaned over and couldn’t help but kiss and hug her, which made Sun Miao feel even more gratified.
“Sun Miao, what are you planning to sell next?”
She couldn’t say before, but now Sun Miao could give Su Ruixi an answer. “The Dragon Boat Festival is coming up, and it happens to be in the next cycle, so I plan to sell Zongzi.” She also told Su Ruixi her plan. “By the way, I plan to wrap a lot more Zongzi. When you have a day off, you can take some to Auntie and Uncle…”
Su Ruixi stiffened. Her first reaction was reluctance, because she felt that she could eat all of those Zongzi herself!
