Panda Cub – Chapter 41.1

Taking medicine

She entered Jing Dan’s room, looking at Jing Dan, who had fallen asleep again. Her brows slightly furrowed as she sat down silently beside her.

Jing Shiyue seemed to notice her anomaly and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Hu Tu lifted her eyes. With Jing Shiyue’s abilities, she would inevitably know about the incidents involving those people. She said, “Those people have all encountered mishaps.” Although she mentioned this, she did not disclose her suspicions about He Ying.

Upon hearing this, Jing Shiyue immediately understood what Hu Tu meant. She looked up, exchanged glances with Qiu Shuhuai, and then asked, “Do you know who did it? And…” She looked around, “Where is He Ying?”

Originally, they noticed He Ying’s anxious demeanor and were speculating about her feelings towards Jing Dan. However, unexpectedly, after Jing Dan woke up, He Ying had disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Hu Tu shook her head, not daring to easily reveal her guesses. However, she had some suspicions in her heart. At the same time, she had some questions she wanted to confirm with He Ying, assuming, of course, that He Ying didn’t mind her knowing about her spirit identity.

After pondering for a moment, Jing Shiyue glanced at Jing Dan and said to Hu Tu, “Take good care of her for me, I need to deal with those issues.”

No matter who was behind those things, in the end, it was beneficial for them. And she had to make sure the news of those people’s mishaps were more tightly sealed. After all, they were all connected to Jing Dan’s matters. Such a large scale incident, if exposed by someone with intentions, could even implicate Jing Dan.

“Okay, rest assured.” Hu Tu nodded.

Taking a deep breath, Jing Shiyue looked at Qiu Shuhuai one last time. Qiu Shuhuai smiled at her and said, “I’ll go with you.”

After years of hard work in the entertainment industry, she inevitably developed many connections that Jing Shiyue did not have.

Jing Shiyue’s face, which had been somewhat tense, now showed a smile, not wanting to appear too stiff.

After Jing Shiyue and the others left, Hu Tu looked at the sleeping Jing Dan and finally laughed helplessly, “You, oh you, you really are lucky.”

Initially, she thought He Ying was human, always advising Jing Dan that humans and spirits have different paths. But in the end, it turns out they were on the same boat.

She laughed softly; Jing Dan truly deserved to be considered a national treasure, with a harmonious family and deep kinship. She had thought Jing Dan would suffer a lot in love, but it turned out to be sweet as well.

“You, sometimes watching you makes me so jealous! You’re just too lucky!” Hu Tu shook her head. Compared to Jing Dan, she felt like an unloved orphan.

While she was lost in her thoughts, someone knocked on the door.

She went over and opened it to see He Ying standing outside, her hands full of items as if she had just made a big supermarket haul.

“Why did you buy so much?” Hu Tu tried to make her demeanor appear as natural as possible.

He Ying didn’t notice the momentary stiffness in her when she first saw her and chuckled, “Jing Dan woke up, feeling very weak after her hangover, so I went to buy some stuff. I plan to cook something for her to eat later.”

She carried the two big bags into the kitchen, then took everything out to sort.

Hu Tu followed her, watching her display of a virtuous wife and good mother, her expression somewhat complex as she said, “She fell asleep again.”

“Ah?” He Ying looked up, then smiled again, “It’s normal for her to fall asleep, her head must be really foggy right now.”

The feeling of a hangover is terrible, especially for Jing Dan, who can’t hold her liquor; it must be even harder for her.

Hu Tu nodded, watching He Ying as if she had something to say but hesitated, wanting to ask directly many times but unsure how He Ying would react if she did.

Is He Ying willing to let others know that she is a spirit?

“Did you know? Those people from last night, something happened to all of them,” Hu Tu tentatively started.

“Hmm?” He Ying’s eyebrows slightly lifted, her tone flat as she asked, “What happened?” Then she continued with her tasks in a composed manner, showing no sign of disturbance.

Watching her reaction, Hu Tu seemed to understand a bit of her intention and said, “Nothing much, just someone acting as the arm of justice, I guess.”

He Ying smiled, looking up seriously, “That’s a good thing, isn’t it? Saves us the trouble of taking action.”

As Hu Tu looked at that smile, which seemed like its usual curve, she couldn’t help but feel a chill or two. She shivered slightly, thoughts of what the assistant had said about those people’s accidents running through her mind. Those bizarre methods… were they truly all the handiwork of He Ying?

She questioned herself. Even she couldn’t remain unfazed while doing such things in a short time. After all, even preparing mentally would take her some time. But He Ying, against all odds, managed to do it.

At this moment, Hu Tu felt like she understood He Ying a bit more than before. Beneath that seemingly gentle exterior was a heart that could turn cold at any moment.

She smiled slowly, as long as that cold heart wasn’t turned against them, against Jing Dan, she didn’t mind.

Those people deserved it!

After He Ying packed everything up, she then started to cook some porridge. She said, “If you have other things to do, you can go back first. It’s okay here with me taking care of everything. The tour just ended, so I’m pretty free these days.”

Watching He Ying’s every move and comparing it to how she used to treat Jing Dan, she couldn’t believe that He Ying would harm Jing Dan. Moreover, given Jing Dan’s current condition, it was impossible for her to go back to the company. Therefore, someone needed to handle the company’s affairs. She agreed to go to the company, while He Ying would stay here to take care of Jing Dan.

After Hu Tu left, He Ying went to Jing Dan’s bedroom. Seeing Jing Dan frowning and sleeping restlessly, it was obvious that she felt unwell upon waking up again.

Sitting by the bed, she gently massaged Jing Dan’s temples. Looking at Jing Dan’s closed eyes and sleeping figure, her gaze unconsciously softened.

She knew that this world has its lights and shadows, and there are gray areas as well, but if possible, she wished that Jing Dan could live every day of her life happily and well, without encountering any darkness.

Yet she knows well that this is almost a luxury—how can one walk through life without encountering its darker aspects?

“Jing Dan, ah.” He Ying murmurs softly, wishing the world’s turmoil would never catch your eye.

When Jing Dan woke up again, she was confused for a while, feeling like she had slept too much, to the point where her brain started to malfunction.

She sat up, her nose twitched slightly, smelling the faint scent of He Ying still lingering in the air. Her somewhat confused mind raised a question, wasn’t she gone? Had she come back?

At that moment, the door opened.

Jing Dan looked up and saw He Ying holding a cup of milk, looking over.

Tilting her head, she really had come back.

“Awake?” He Ying’s tone was gentle as she approached and observed her complexion, noting that it still looked a bit pale, suggesting she might still be feeling unwell.

She set down the milk and then went into the bathroom to fetch hot water to wipe her down, asking, “Are you hungry? Would you like to wash up and have some dinner later?”

Jing Dan had essentially slept through the entire day.

Her gaze remained fixed on the glass of milk on the bedside table, looking somewhat eager.

Seeing her like this, He Ying chuckled softly, helped her to sit up after wiping her down, and said, “Let’s go wash up first, have some milk, eat dinner, and if you still want to sleep, you can sleep again later.”

“Oh,” Jing Dan responded obediently.

He Ying glanced at her other hand, her gaze darkening momentarily, but as she looked up at Jing Dan again, she reverted to the familiar expression Jing Dan knew.

He Ying prepared things like toothpaste for her, then asked, “Can you manage on your own? I’ll go and set the table for dinner.”

With a toothbrush in her mouth and her cheeks full of foam like a child secretly playing with bubbles, Jing Dan nodded her eyes wide open.

Seeing her like this, He Ying chuckled lightly, and the melancholy that had weighed on her all day eased significantly at this unintentional cuteness of hers.

“After washing up, drink that cup of milk, then remember to bring out the cup to wash.”

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

“Mm!” Jing Dan nodded.

He Ying raised her hand to pat her head, then turned around to get busy with dinner.

Having her head patted, Jing Dan tilted her head, feeling today’s He Ying was kind of strange and had changed a lot?

Speeding up her washing, she then took the milk to drink, walking out while drinking, only to see He Ying in a thin white sweater, her hair casually tied at the back, with a few strands playfully jumping out in front, radiating a gentle aura all over. She was also holding a soup pot, with steam billowing out, moistening her brows and eyes, making her look full of life’s warmth.

She was momentarily stunned, finding He Ying really beautiful at that moment, and the aura around her made one instinctively want to get closer.

Seeing her standing dumbfounded at the door, He Ying raised an eyebrow, her peach blossom eyes seemingly carrying a hint of annoyance, and asked, “Why are you just standing there like an idiot? Come over for dinner.”

“Oh,” Jing Dan snapped out of it. The table was already set with many dishes; clearly, He Ying had timed everything perfectly intending to call her out.

“Have some porridge first to make your stomach feel better.” He Ying scooped a bowl of congee for her and placed it in front of her, smiling faintly as she watched her bow her head obediently to drink the congee.

It was good she wasn’t affected by last night’s events.

Jing Dan obediently finished the bowl of congee, and then felt as if the congee had smoothed out her upset stomach after it went down, making her feel much more comfortable overall.

Jing Dan wrinkled her nose, thinking to herself how ineffective her auntie’s spiritual power seemed to be. After waking up, she started to feel uncomfortable.

Fortunately, Jing Shiyue didn’t know what this little brat was thinking at the moment. Otherwise, she might have wished that Jing Dan suffered more last night for wasting her spiritual power, only to end up being disparaged for not being effective!

“Would you like to rest at home for a couple of days?” He Ying softly inquired about her opinion. Although she felt Jing Dan wouldn’t pretend in front of her, she was still afraid that Jing Dan might be suffering silently without speaking up.

Jing Dan shook her head, appearing somewhat frustrated as she said, “No! I want to go out! If I don’t go out, who knows what they will say about me!”

After she woke up, Hu Tu told her what had happened afterward, and she also checked the internet on her phone. Although the company had already issued a statement and clarified the situation, there were still people hurling various vile insults at her online!

Why should they curse her! She didn’t do anything wrong!

“Who dares to speak against you!” He Ying’s gaze turned cold for a moment.

Jing Dan looked down, pouting and said, “Those people online!”

Just a while ago, they were all praises and adoration for her, calling her a goddess, but now they are using such ugly words to curse her!

He Ying looked at Jing Dan with a bit of heartache in her gaze. Some people are just like this, bringing all the displeasures of real life onto the internet, like the rats in the sewers, spreading their filth online, filling the whole network with their venom!

Even when facing their victims, they don’t feel any compassion.

“Don’t mind them. If you take them seriously, you’re playing into their hands. Then they find something that excites them even more, and they output even crazier. You should look more at those who support you, those who feel indignant on your behalf. Most people really do believe in you.” He Ying tried to keep her voice soft, even though she was filled with all sorts of anger, she still didn’t want to bring any negative emotions to Jing Dan.

Jing Dan was pushing her rice around in her bowl, nodding her head sullenly. She knew all this, but it wasn’t something that could be easily done at once.

Seeing Jing Dan’s sullenness, He Ying understood that these weren’t things that could be explained in a sentence or two. After all, Jing Dan had never experienced anything like this before, so it wasn’t easy for her to think clearly all at once.

“Let’s have the company step forward and sue all those who spew dirty words and malicious insults in court. Let them understand that the internet is not their shield, okay?”

Jing Dan looked up at her, “Can we really do that?”

He Ying, looking at her eyes filled with a spark of curiosity, smiled, “Of course, and we can even make them write you apology letters by hand!”

Hearing this, Jing Dan’s face showed a slight smile, “Then I want their apologies!”

People who insult others should apologize. Why act as if nothing happened!

“Okay~” He Ying watched her with a smile, the amusement in her own eyes deepening a bit more.

After dinner, she took Jing Dan downstairs for a walk by the lake. As they enjoyed the evening breeze and viewed the night scenery, He Ying suddenly experienced a moment of daze.

There was a time when she, too, fantasized about her future like human girls do, imagining the kind of person who would stand by her side and what they would do together.

Back then, her vision of the person who might be by her side was blurry, but she imagined a simple life. They could finish dinner together, then hold hands while stepping out for a walk, letting the breeze gently caress their faces. That indescribable comfort was once her fantasy.

In this moment, the one completing it with her was Jing Dan.

She turned her head to look at Jing Dan, observing her oblivious expression and how she always kept a cool and distant facade outside. She slowly smiled and asked, “Shall we go for a walk? I’ve heard there’s a new pedestrian street not far from here, filled with lots of delicious food, and there’s even a dessert shop that makes really good sweet soups!”

Upon hearing this, Jing Dan frowned slightly and murmured, “They’re not as delicious as the ones you make.”

She knew the outcome without even trying. During the time He Ying hadn’t cooked for her, she had tried many different places, but none could capture her taste buds quite like He Ying’s cooking.

Hearing her almost complaint-like tone, He Ying playfully scolded, “You’ve really been spoiled by me! Do you mean to say you’ll never eat food made by others your whole life?!”

Jing Dan pouted but couldn’t come up with a rebuttal.

He Ying chuckled lightly, noticing the variety of small expressions on the person’s face now.

Then, she took Jing Dan with her, and the two of them, relying on their legs, slowly strolled towards the direction of the pedestrian street. As they left the small community and moved closer to the pedestrian street, the noise of people became louder and louder, accompanied by the tantalizing aroma of various foods.
