Miss Forensics – Chapter 41.2

Martial Arts Competition

Lin Yan initially thought that engaging in a fight would resolve this matter. Firstly, because it involved her colleague, someone who had once saved her life, and secondly, it concerned the person Lin Ge liked. She couldn’t possibly disrupt her cousin’s lifelong happiness, no matter how shameless she might be.

However, Song Yuhang displayed effortless skill in the fight. Her deliberate avoidance of harming Lin Yan, coupled with the disapproving murmurs from the audience, left her with a bruised ego.

Lin Yan, even in her worst state, was a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt athlete. When had she ever needed someone to accommodate her like this?!

Lin Yan had never been the type to hide behind the shelter of a big tree, seeking protection from the elements. She didn’t require what they called care, protection, or special treatment – it only added to her sense of humiliation.

“I don’t need you to go easy on me!” Lin Yan blurted out through gritted teeth as she simultaneously bent her knee, aiming a strike at her lower body.

Repeating the same technique.

Song Yuhang’s pupils contracted as she released Lin Yan, taking a step back. Little did she know that Lin Yan had feigned the move, and as she raised her leg, her right fist struck fiercely at Song Yuhang’s abdomen.

Song Yuhang was caught off guard by the blow, doubling over and coughing, sweat trickling from her forehead.

Lin Yan, of course, didn’t give her a chance to catch her breath. The next move was a powerful elbow strike that slammed Song Yuhang to the ground. As she landed, Lin Yan bent her knee, driving it into Song Yuhang’s vulnerable abdominal area.

Caught between a rock and a hard place, Song Yuhang spat out saliva on the spot. Every organ in her body was wracked with pain, and her ears were ringing.

She clenched her teeth. “Lin… Lin Yan… I…”

How could Lin Yan allow her to utter the words “I concede”? She felt even more furious at Song Yuhang’s lack of retaliation and being on the receiving end of the blows. Without hesitation, Lin Yan delivered a fierce elbow strike towards Song Yuhang’s head.

Song Yuhang glimpsed an opportunity, feeling that Lin Yan’s three-month break had made her reactions even quicker, while she herself had already worn out her stamina in four consecutive matches. She had been intentionally conceding, but Lin Yan wasn’t giving her a chance to admit defeat.

If she took that punch, she’d probably need an ambulance on the spot. Song Yuhang gave a bitter smile, enduring the blow with her back and then attempting to throw Lin Yan over her shoulder, clasping onto her waist.

Lin Yan welcomed the close-quarter grappling. When it came to hand-to-hand combat, there was hardly anything that could rival Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She relaxed her body to minimize harm, and in the whirlwind of action, when Song Yuhang tried to throw her, Lin Yan didn’t let go. In fact, much like that rainy night, she slipped her hand under Song Yuhang’s occipital bone.

Lin Yan bit her lip, her expression inexplicable, a mix of resentment, confusion, and a hint of grievance in her eyes.

Song Yuhang smiled weakly, sweat streaming down her cheeks. “I concede, I won’t fight anymore…”

Before she could finish speaking, Lin Yan clenched her teeth and swiftly locked a triangle choke around Song Yuhang’s neck, straightening her arm to press it against her own chest. The leverage created in an instant could almost snap an adult’s neck.

In the midst of this excruciating pain, Song Yuhang somehow found herself aware of her hand resting in a particular place on Lin Yan’s body, feeling warmth and softness, a sensation… a very pleasant sensation.

She attempted to struggle, but she couldn’t move. Her fingertips only managed to hook onto a soft piece of fabric – Lin Yan’s belt.

The referee blew a sharp whistle and hurried over to separate the two. Lin Yan’s eyes were red, filled with anger and frustration, and she was panting heavily.

Song Yuhang didn’t fare much better. Her face was covered in bruises, and when she sparred with others, it was always in a friendly manner, with restraint and without targeting the face.

But Lin Yan was different—she was ruthless, and her moves were underhanded. To be honest, if the referee hadn’t blown the whistle in time, Song Yuhang might have been sent to the ambulance by now due to suffocation.

She was furious, furious at why Lin Yan didn’t hold back! Furious that Lin Yan sent her a cryptic message, raising her curiosity, and the worst part was, she retracted it!

The referee blew a sharp whistle and rushed over to separate the two. Lin Yan’s eyes were red, seething with anger, and she was panting heavily.

Song Yuhang didn’t fare any better, her face covered in bruises. When sparring with others, she usually maintained a friendly and controlled manner, avoiding targeting the face.

But Lin Yan was different – she was ruthless, and her tactics were underhanded. To be honest, if the referee hadn’t blown the whistle in time, Song Yuhang might have been sent to the ambulance due to suffocation.

She was filled with resentment, wondering why she hadn’t struck back!

She resented her for sending her a mysterious message that piqued her curiosity, and the worst part was, she retracted it!!!

She hated that she and Lin Ge were playing more than just pretend. Wasn’t it not long ago that she was in the hospital claiming she had no feelings for Lin Ge?!

A woman’s words, what a deceiving ghost!

She didn’t know how to ask these questions, so she decided to resolve everything in the most primal way. Her and Song Yuhang’s connection had started that rainy night when they had a fight and began to understand each other’s inner selves. This time, they could finish everything the same way.

Lin Yan thought it was as simple as that. If they had a good fight today, she would accept it, and this matter would be put to rest. But Song Yuhang didn’t give her that opportunity. She beat her to a pulp, and Song Yuhang still just asked with a smile, “Are you feeling better now?”

“Where did I hit you?”

“Does it hurt?”

She made it seem as if Lin Yan owed her something.

Lin Yan was about to reply when a burst of whistles from below interrupted them. Several mischievous police officers led the way with teasing comments, “Dr. Lin has a nice figure.”

The crowd burst into laughter.

Lin Yan lowered her gaze and blushed. She was wearing the standardized Taekwondo uniform for the competition, which was loose and wide. Someone had loosened her belt, revealing a black camisole underneath.

Song Yuhang had an innocent look on her face as she swallowed hard and said, “Lin… Lin Yan, let me explain…”

Lin Yan couldn’t stand to look at that face. She felt like tearing her apart, and without hesitation, she raised her hand to slap her.

But Song Yuhang handed her the belt and closed her eyes tightly, waiting for the impending slap. However, it never came.

When she opened her eyes, she saw Lin Yan trembling lips, with a hint of redness in the corner of her eyes. There was a glimmer of moisture, and it was unclear if it was due to anger or…

“You scoundrel!” Lin Yan snatched the belt from her hand, clenching her own clothes. Her scolding lacked the usual vigor and was drowned out by the crowd’s whistles as she turned and descended from the stage.

Duan Cheng covered his face, thinking, “This is just unbearable to watch.”

Feng Jianguo was furious, “Is this, Is this a lover’s spat or a public quarrel?!”

* * *

However, thanks to the beating she received from Lin Yan, Song Yuhang used her injured arm as an excuse to skip the afternoon shooting competition. She didn’t care much about these accolades; participating in competitions was merely for fun. Besides, she really…

As she thought about this, the web page in front of her remained open, and her mind began to wander.

Duan Cheng approached her desk and placed a document on it. “Hey, Captain Song, surfing the internet?”

“How to make a girl happy?”

“What to do when a girl is angry?”

“What kind of gifts do girls usually like?”

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

……

A screen full of search results filled his vision. Song Yuhang hurriedly got up, attempting to block the screen with her body. In her haste, she accidentally knocked over the water glass on the table, creating a mess, and she started to fumble around.

Song Yuhang massaged her temples, and to her surprise, a hint of blush appeared on her face under Duan Cheng’s increasingly suggestive gaze. She promptly turned off the computer, grabbed some tissues to wipe away the spilled water on the table, and only then did she feel like she could speak normally.

“Is there something wrong?”

“Nothing. Dr. Lin asked me to come and deliver some documents.”

Song Yuhang picked up the documents and flicked away the water stains on top of them. She briefly glanced at the pages. “Why didn’t she come over herself?”

She appeared expressionless, but in reality, she discreetly perked up her ears.

Duan Cheng smiled and said, “She’s immersed in the pathology lab. She said that after you sign it, there’s no need to bring it back to her; you can just send it to the file room for archiving.”

So, that’s why she was upset.

Song Yuhang nodded and placed the folder down. “Alright, you can go now.”

Duan Cheng took a couple of steps but was then stopped.

“Uh… about what just happened…” Song Yuhang wasn’t adept at lying or threatening others, and her gaze wandered.

Duan Cheng’s smile blossomed. “Rest assured, I didn’t, see, anything at all.”

* * *

When he returned to the technical investigation office, things exploded.

“Really? Did you really see Captain Song searching for those things?”

The gossip-hungry souls of the group were ignited.

“How could it be fake!” Duan Cheng took a sip of water and began to gossip, “You didn’t see how flustered she was! I’ve never seen Captain Song like that before. Tsk, tsk, tsk, Dr. Lin is truly something else, a real heartthrob, attracting both men and women.”

Meanwhile, Lin Yan was on the dissection table, practicing with a rabbit, making an incision with a sharp cut.

“Really? Isn’t Captain Song in a good relationship with her brother? There’s nothing wrong with a sister-in-law trying to please her little sister-in-law, right?”

“Oh my, she’s about to escape from the sea of suffering and marry into a wealthy family. If I were her, I’d do the same.”

Fang Xin chuckled, “You? Look at yourself. Captain Song is looking for someone talented and attractive. You should see if you can withstand a punch from Dr. Lin before you say anything.”

“Sigh, it’s a shame I didn’t find a wealthy lady’s purse.”

“Yeah, it’s a shame Dr. Lin isn’t a guy, rich and cool…”

Before she could finish her sentence, the door to the dissecting room was briskly pushed open, and everyone fell silent, returning to their own tasks.

Lin Yan walked out and hung her lab coat on a hanger. Although the dissecting room had soundproof glass, nobody knew how much she had heard. Some people were becoming nervous, especially the young policewoman who had just spoken.

Lin Yan glanced at the busy crowd, noticing that Duan Cheng had dropped his book. She raised a mocking smile, approached the policewoman who had spoken earlier, and snatched the coffee she was drinking.

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

“Lin… Sister Lin…” The policewoman stood up, feeling uneasy.

Lin Yan tilted her head and took a few sips of the coffee, a wicked smile playing on her lips. “You’re right. Aside from certain equipment, I’m not much different from a man. But, you see, the Lin family isn’t just open to anyone. If you want to marry into a wealthy family, start by looking at yourself in the mirror.”

With that, she forcefully knocked the empty coffee can onto the table, and it crumpled when she released it.

Lin Yan picked up her bag, turned, and walked away. As she passed through the corridor, she coincidentally encountered Song Yuhang, who had just exited the criminal investigation office. Song Yuhang was holding her phone, engrossed in a conversation, and with her other hand in her pocket, she was heading for the changing room, apparently getting ready to finish work for the day.

Meeting face to face, Song Yuhang had already noticed her. She put the phone to her ear and reached out to stop her. “Lin…”

Lin Yan glimpsed at the glowing screen with two words flashing: Lin Ge.

Without a second thought, she shrugged off her hand, didn’t look back, and continued walking forward.

Ugh! Just helped her a moment ago, and now she’s acting heartless when there’s someone of the opposite sex around!

Song Yuhang looked bewildered and still wanted to call after her, “Lin…”

On the other side, Lin Ge’s gentle voice came through, “Alright, it’s a deal then. Let’s meet at Milan Bar at 8 PM tonight. Lin Yan will also be there, and I’ll come to pick you up.”
