Little Alpaca – Chapter 89

Volume 2: Fuzhu Huodou

Big Bad Bird.

It was all a misunderstanding. To think she had assumed there was some conspiracy hidden within all these abnormalities, only to find out the truth was so simple.

Chaoyun was still the second female lead from the original novel, the one who ran around everywhere for the male and female leads. Unfortunately for her, this world now had a villain who’d had a change of heart, one who, without saying a second word, snatched up all the work the second female lead was supposed to do.

Although Chaoyun was also a bird who could fly, she had sealed away more than half of her divine power to come to the mortal realm. As a result, both her sensitivity to spiritual aura and her travel speed were much weaker than before.

If You Yan were to make a wasted trip, it would take her two days at most, round trip. But Chaoyun was different. A wasted trip for her would take four or five days.

In a situation as urgent as fire, as singed by fire1, if You Yan had just given her a little reminder, think of how much time she could have saved her!

Yi Qiu couldn’t help but think that there was probably no one in this world more socially inept than You Yan—though, to be fair, You Yan wasn’t technically a person to begin with.

But then again, that bird woman’s thought process was indeed much clearer than her own. Many things that were something she couldn’t solve after a hundred thoughts2 and that she had made overly complicated, You Yan could often clarify in just one or two sentences.

Was this the gap between a bird and an alpaca?

After a brief silence, Yi Qiu pouted, turned her head, crossed her arms, and plopped down on the edge of the bed.

You Yan couldn’t help but turn her face, her gaze shifting to the back of the not-so-bright-looking Yi Qiu’s head. She watched her for quite a while.

That little head, which would tilt ever so slightly from time to time when she was thinking, didn’t seem any less appealing than the fluffy alpaca head from before.

In fact, both were quite cute.

Yi Qiu sat by the bed, lost in thought for a good while, before letting out a soft sigh.

Hearing this, You Yan raised an eyebrow and asked, “What are you sighing for?”

Yi Qiu jumped, startled by this sudden show of concern. As her body trembled, a familiar laugh came from behind her.

The startled little alpaca demon composed herself and couldn’t help but sigh again.

Not only was this big bad bird’s mockery of the little alpaca getting louder each time, but it was also becoming more and more frequent.

What did this mean?

It meant the big bad bird was getting more and more proficient at bullying the little alpaca!

“I’m asking you a question,” You Yan said, shifting her body toward the outer edge of the bed. She reached out her left index finger with great interest and gently poked the back of Yi Qiu’s head.

Yi Qiu grumbled under her breath and said reluctantly, “What else could I be sighing about? I was just thinking, I wasn’t stupid before, so how come now… I can’t seem to figure anything out.”

She wasn’t making this up. In her past life, she had read novels, watched dramas, and seen memes online. She had chatted with people and argued with them, and never once had she felt stupid.

There were even times, when encountering more thought-provoking works, that she could act as the class representative3, summarizing the foreshadowing for the author, analyzing the characters, and even guessing the future plot. Her comments would then be highlighted4 by the author as encouragement and manually pinned to the top5 by many readers.

What on earth had happened after she transmigrated into the book for her to become this foolish version of herself today?

“You’re not actually stupid,” You Yan said softly.

“Liar, you just called me stupid,” Yi Qiu muttered under her breath.

“Mm,” You Yan thought for a moment, then corrected herself, “Well, compared to me, you are a little stupid.”

Yi Qiu couldn’t tell if that was a compliment or an insult. After a moment of contemplation, she sat down with her knees bent, propped her left cheek on her hand, and fell silent once more.

These past few days, Xun Chi had remained at the burnt-down Xianlu Sect.

After repairing the Cloud Bridge Barrier, he didn’t stop consuming his spiritual power. Instead, he attempted to restore, one by one, the things that weren’t too severely damaged.

In truth, everything had to start over, so he didn’t need to do all this. Perhaps he just felt truly guilty.

Two days ago, Xun Chi came down the mountain to buy some wine. As a fellow being from the Heavenly Realm, he also dropped by to check on Luo Mingyuan’s and Jiang Yuyao’s injuries out of concern.

Yi Qiu happened to run into him and curiously asked when he planned to go find Jian Li and Yue Zhuo.

Upon hearing her question, Xun Chi held his wine flask and remained silent for a long time before finally shaking his head and murmuring, “No rush, no rush.”

At the time, she couldn’t resist asking, “Why aren’t you in a rush?”

Xun Chi looked at her with a smile and said, “Give them some time to convince each other, and to convince themselves.”

Thinking of this, Yi Qiu couldn’t help but remark softly, “Most misunderstandings between people stem from ‘concealment.’ If many things could just be explained clearly, there wouldn’t be so much unhappiness.”

After a few seconds of silence, You Yan replied flatly, “But some things can’t be said just because you want to.”

“Why can’t they be said? If you think someone is important enough, there’s no need to hide so much, right?” Yi Qiu said with a frown.

“This isn’t a question of importance,” You Yan said.

“Then what is it?” Yi Qiu turned her head to look at You Yan.

“It’s trust.” As You Yan spoke, her gaze darkened. She pondered for a moment before continuing softly, “Caring for someone and trusting someone have always been two different things.”

At that moment, Yi Qiu stared blankly at You Yan, feeling as if something in her heart had been gently pricked by that simple sentence.

It didn’t hurt. It was just a bit frustrating, yet she had no right to retort.

You Yan was right. Caring and trust had always been two different things.

In the original novel, Jiang Yuyao did everything for Luo Mingyuan’s own good, yet it backfired completely. With one well-intentioned lie after another, she pushed them both into the abyss.

Half a month ago, Luo Mingyuan’s parents also acted for his own good, writing a deceitful letter even as they were dying. If not for that little pig’s trotter insisting on rushing over, he probably wouldn’t have even seen them one last time.

Jian Li was the same with Yue Zhuo, thinking everything she did was for her own good, but unexpectedly extinguishing the only light in her heart in the end.

Immortals, demons, gods, and devils were perhaps no different from humans. When faced with matters of emotion, they were always prone to self-righteously giving in silence, never considering whether the other person could bear the weight of their sacrifice.

It could only be said that being good to someone out of a one-sided wish6 often doesn’t work. When things happen, it’s better to speak up and face them together.

The logic was simple and easy to understand, but even after understanding it, she just wasn’t very happy.

Perhaps it was because… the person who said it was You Yan.

You Yan knew so many things but rarely took the initiative to tell her. Sometimes, even when she asked, she wouldn’t get the full picture.

Even the last time she mentioned the old affairs of Kunlun, she could clearly feel that You Yan was still hiding something from her.

But what was the use?

You Yan was very good to her. She was becoming more and more willing to believe that You Yan had started to care about her.

However, she was also very clear that You Yan was still testing her from time to time—there was no trust between them.

It wasn’t just that You Yan didn’t trust her; she didn’t trust him much either. At the very least, she still didn’t dare to tell You Yan her biggest secret.

Compared to before, the only thing that had changed was perhaps the reason for her “not daring.”

At first, she didn’t dare for fear of losing her life.

Now, she didn’t dare simply because she couldn’t bear to tell You Yan that once this world reached its HE, she might leave.

Though it wasn’t a certainty. After all, she hadn’t seriously considered whether she would actually want to go back if she were truly given the choice after everything was over.

Thinking about it was somewhat agonizing. After all, in that world, she had family, friends, and a job that wasn’t too terrible.

She almost forgot. Before she transmigrated, it was the busiest year-end period in that world. And because she had been so upset by this trashy novel, there were still so, so many things she hadn’t finished handling…

What a sin, what a sin. How irresponsible of her.

But on second thought, when a person dies, ten thousand matters become empty7. That bit about responsibility probably didn’t count for much anymore, right?

“What are you thinking about now?” You Yan asked, gently tapping the tip of her nose.

Yi Qiu snapped back to reality and quickly shook her head, “What else could I be thinking about? Just that stuff with Jian Li and Yue Zhuo.”

“So full of sorrow and easily moved.” You Yan’s lips curved up slightly. She reached out, took one of Yi Qiu’s braids, and began toying with it between her fingers.

Great. First, she looked down on her for her low IQ, and now she was looking down on her for being sentimental.

As expected, there could be no empathy between a normal human and an abnormal villain.

Yi Qiu took a deep breath and said unhappily, “Don’t play with my hair.”

“Stingy,” You Yan said flatly, but she didn’t let go.

Yi Qiu gritted her teeth, reached out and grabbed a lock of You Yan’s long hair. Meeting You Yan’s surprised gaze, she, with great speed, blindly wove a small, messy fried dough twist braid8.

The Demon Lord Lord gave the braid in her hand a hard tug.

The little alpaca demon yelped in pain as half her body was pulled onto the bed, following the force.

As expected, the big bad bird was incapable of being gentle!
