Volume 2: Fuzhu Huodou
Looks like you still like being an alpaca.
No human can escape the Law of True Fragrance1, and even a person cultivated from an alpaca demon2 was no exception.
Yi Qiu had verbally refused to eat, but when You Yan actually went to feed her, her body couldn’t help but be honest.
Back when she was fed by You Yan, the little alpaca had no choice; she ate whatever she was given. Now that she was a person, she suddenly became picky.
Throughout the entire meal, Yi Qiu was constantly pointing here and there with her small, tightly bandaged hands.
“I want to eat this.”
“That one, You Yan, I want that one.”
“Put this down for now, it’s a bit dry, I want to drink some soup!”
Yi Qiu was stepping on the nose to get to the face3 like this, really just to vent the frustration from being teased by You Yan earlier.
At first, she had planned to see good and receive4, but she hadn’t expected You Yan’s temper to be so good. Being ordered around like this, You Yan didn’t even throw the chopsticks at her face and go on strike. Thus, she became more and more excessive.
Based on past experience, every time she acted spoiled relying on favor, she would basically get a light-speed face-slap5 from You Yan.
So this time, she had mentally prepared herself in advance, and on the edge of courting death, she fiercely spread the great roc’s wings6 for a while, just to see what kind of punishment this You Yan, who now had six thousand affection points for her, would dish out if she got angry.
But even after she finished the meal and had her little mouth wiped clean by You Yan, she still hadn’t received the expected punishment.
Is this what six thousand affection points feels like!
Yi Qiu subconsciously glanced at her stats. She wouldn’t have known if she hadn’t looked, but one look gave her a shock.
Her stats had undergone an earth-shattering change without her noticing.
【Current Stats】
IQ: 185
Strength: 300
Spiritual Root: 2000
Agility: 150
Health: 80
Stamina: 100
You Yan’s Affection: 6555
“Heavens, when were all these stats added? Is there a bug?!”
They clearly weren’t like this when she woke up.
【The Blood Coagulation Pearl contains a massive amount of spiritual power. All stat bonuses are normal.】
“Why wasn’t there any notification?”
【Host has successfully broken through the initial limit. The frequency of stat increases and decreases has risen. The system will now only monitor the values and will no longer provide real-time reports.】
“Oh…” Yi Qiu had a sudden realization.
So the frequency of stat growth had increased. If it kept giving alerts like before, it would indeed be very noisy.
Eh, wait a minute…
What did the system just say?
The system will only conduct numerical monitoring?
“Wait, if my reading comprehension is correct, the meaning of ‘numerical monitoring’ should be—none of my stats were added by you, you’re only responsible for monitoring and recording, right?”
【That is correct.】
“But didn’t you say you would provide me with rewards and punishments for various stats based on the development and changes in the plot?”
【……】
“Then what about my skills? The spitting, and that body enhancement that requires reversing my demonic power… were those granted by you, or was I originally capable of them and you just gave me a push?”
【……】
“So you’ve been fooling me all along? Hey, so what use are you anyway? How many true words have come out of your mouth? If I complete the final mission, will I really get a reward? Don’t tell me you have no other abilities besides bringing me here, sending me away, or erasing me?”
【……】
Yi Qiu questioned it for a long time like a string of firecrackers7, but the Treasure System didn’t dare to let out a single fart8, instead continuously emitting the mechanical sounds of a computer malfunction.
Clearly, it had gone into self-seclusion.
“Not daring to speak anymore? Weren’t you supposed to know everything and say everything?”
【Beep—Beep—Beep—】
Great, it was directly playing at being disconnected9.
This dial tone sound for hanging up was really something else.
Yi Qiu finally understood. She had been played by the system, and for a very, very long time.
This system was just utter trash. It was completely useless. From start to finish, it had been drawing a big pancake10 for her, snaring a white wolf with empty hands11, forcing her, a little alpaca, to use every trick up her sleeve to advance the plot next to the great villain.
She had every right to suspect she had encountered the most useless system in the world. If this system could have actually given her anything, her journey of transmigrating into a book couldn’t possibly have been so frustrating.
Whatever. Ever since coming to this world, this crappy system has never helped her with anything. She had long since given up any hope for it. Today was just a coincidence where the lie was exposed, wasn’t it?
Thinking this, Yi Qiu closed her eyes, clenched her teeth, and let out a heavy breath.
“You’re certainly moody.” You Yan’s voice drifted over faintly from the side.
Yi Qiu couldn’t help but jump in fright. She quickly came to her senses and looked innocently at You Yan, who was clearing the dishes on the table.
Oh no, I was complaining about the system. You Yan couldn’t have thought I was throwing a face12 at her, right?
Yi Qiu was secretly terrified for two seconds, then suddenly stood up abruptly. She reached out, wanting to help You Yan clear the table, but was gently pushed away by You Yan without a change in expression.
Yi Qiu: “…I want to help you.”
You Yan: “Clumsy. Don’t cause trouble.”
Yi Qiu looked down at her own hands, and after a moment of silence, she glared at You Yan, puffed up with anger.
Fine, a misunderstanding it is then. This bird woman loves to bully people so much, so what if I throw a face at her?
I’ll do it, I’ll throw a face right at her!
“I’m leaving!” Yi Qiu said, subconsciously kicking the stool behind her to show her displeasure.
Whether this kick was angry enough in You Yan’s eyes was hard to say, but as soon as her front foot kicked, her back foot sucked in a cold breath of air from the pain.
I forgot, my foot is injured, I can’t just throw a tantrum…
Yi Qiu’s face contorted for a few seconds. She gritted her teeth and endured it, maintaining her composure as she turned to walk towards the door.
You Yan raised an eyebrow, glanced at her, and asked, “Going where?”
Yi Qiu rolled her eyes and said without turning back, “I’m going back to my room!”
You Yan asked with a hint of a smile, “You have a room?”
Yi Qiu came to her senses, put her hands on her hips, and asked, “Can’t I have one?”
You Yan looked at her for a few seconds, then her lips curved up. “You can’t.”
“I’m not an alpaca anymore!” Yi Qiu argued with a frown.
“You can be.” You Yan said, extending an index finger towards Yi Qiu.
“If Master says I am, then I am!” Yi Qiu immediately and skillfully became instantly cowed, shaking her head with its two long braids like a small pellet drum13. “I don’t have a room, I’ll follow Master!”
As she spoke, she limped back to the table and sat down, placing both arms flat on the table in the upright posture of a primary school student in class. Her small hands, wrapped up like zongzi, were slightly upturned, as if she desperately wanted to appear ten-thousand-percent well-behaved.
You Yan couldn’t help but chuckle. She reached out and ruffled the hair on Yi Qiu’s forehead, then picked up the tray and walked out of the room.
The moment the door closed behind her, Yi Qiu couldn’t help but bite the inside of her lip, her fair little face suddenly turning redder and redder.
I’m… not an alpaca anymore, why is she still ruffling my head…
Is she still treating me like a little pet?
This bird woman… if she really doesn’t see me as a person, then I’ll stop acting like one!
You Yan had only gone to the kitchen and wasn’t gone for long. When she returned to the room, Yi Qiu had already taken off her shoes and socks and was sitting on the bed, humming a little tune.
She leaned against the propped-up soft pillows, a thin blanket covering her from her stomach to her ankles, leaving only her two small, gauze-wrapped feet exposed. They swayed left and right, keeping time with the tune she was humming.
You Yan was stunned for half a second. When she came to her senses, she closed the door behind her and asked faintly, “Why did you get on the bed?”
“The floor is so hard, my feet will hurt on the floor.” Yi Qiu raised her head, her big, innocent eyes wide, as she righteously gave up on herself, “I’m just a little alpaca demon. I even have to rely on Master to help protect me while I transform. Any random disciple from the Xianlu Sect could capture me. I’m not like you all; I’m very fragile and very delicate.”
“Oh,” You Yan replied, walking to the table to take a sip of tea.
“I want some too, You Yan, I want some too!” The fragile and delicate little alpaca demon sat up straight on the bed and stretched out her Erkang hand14 towards You Yan.
That posture was exactly like the little alpaca from before, who couldn’t take care of herself without her master.
You Yan looked back at her, couldn’t help but let out a light laugh, poured a cup of tea, and turned to bring it to Yi Qiu.
Yi Qiu quickly reached out with both hands to take it, but You Yan had no intention of giving her the cup, simply holding it directly to her lips.
“I can drink it myself.” It’s easy to spill if the cup isn’t in my own hands.
“That won’t do.” A slight smile touched the corners of You Yan’s lips. “You are very fragile and very delicate. Your hands can’t hold the cup steady. I have to feed you.”
Yi Qiu was speechless for a moment. She stared at the teacup in You Yan’s hand for a long time, a smile involuntarily appearing on her face.
In the next second, that pair of little zongzi wrapped in gauze gently grasped You Yan’s hand that held the cup. Then, with a slight lift, the tea placed at the girl’s lips was drunk in one gulp.
Finished, Yi Qiu retracted her hands and looked up at You Yan triumphantly.
You Yan gazed back at Yi Qiu, lost in thought for a moment, then suddenly, without a word, steadily tossed the teacup back onto the table.
Yi Qiu’s gaze subconsciously followed the teacup to the table.
Suddenly, she noticed You Yan had snatched the soft pillow from behind her and thrown it on the floor.
What is she doing? Throwing a tantrum?
Yi Qiu looked at You Yan in astonishment. Just as she was about to say something, she saw You Yan start to pull at the thin blanket covering her.
“Hey, hey?” Yi Qiu subconsciously reached out to grab it, but she couldn’t exert any strength and could only try to hold it down with her elbows.
But how could the strength of a little alpaca demon like her compare to You Yan’s?
The blanket covering her was also snatched away by You Yan in an instant and thrown on the floor.
“What are you doing, not letting me rest!”
Hearing this, You Yan turned and walked to the tall cabinet on the side, opened the door, pulled out a thick mattress from inside, and with a light flick of her sleeve, spread a pallet on the floor.
Yi Qiu: “…”
You Yan: “Get down.”
Yi Qiu was silent for a moment, then tilted her head and blinked at You Yan. “I’m a person now, don’t I deserve to sleep on a bed?”
“Hm?” You Yan mimicked her, tilting her head and blinking back. “You want to sleep with me?”
Yi Qiu thought about it and felt it wasn’t out of the question, so she said seriously, “I don’t kick off the covers when I sleep, and I take up very little space. I won’t crowd you.”
“Looks like you still like being an alpaca,” You Yan said faintly, extending an index finger towards Yi Qiu.
Yi Qiu immediately scrambled and tumbled onto the pallet on the floor, wrapped her arms around the pillow, and buried her face in it.
Bird woman, I’ll remember you.
The author has something to say:
Due to my personal region, I’ve habitually used some local dialect. I suddenly remembered that not everyone can understand it, so I’ll give a rough explanation.
Bānmìng (扳命): Roughly means to complain about someone’s extremely dramatic physical movements, making it look like a final death struggle.
Shuǎi liǎnzi (甩脸子): To show an unhappy expression to someone.
Finally, there’s really no need to get so hung up on age. In ancient times, women could marry at fifteen, and female alpacas mature at one year old. Yi Qiu’s psychological age is twenty-eight. It was mentioned before that demons/monsters are considered adults at five hundred years old, but this alpaca matured first before gaining sentience and becoming a demon, so she was already an adult when she transformed. Besides, a sixteen-year-old appearance isn’t that young. muttering quietly, Liu Yifei was only sixteen and a half when she acted in Chinese Paladin
