Little Alpaca – Chapter 19

Volume 1: Little Alpaca

【Main Quest Objective! Please Pay Attention!】

That night, the Demon Lord and her little alpaca did not go to an inn in the city to spend the night.

With a lazy expression, she lay leaning against a tree by the stream, her right hand gently stroking the alpaca that was drowsily lying on her lap.

In the quiet mountain forest, beside the gurgling stream, they kept each other company in silence for a long time.

The moment night enveloped this tranquil world, the moonlight spilled down, hazily illuminating the night.

Gradually, more and more fireflies gathered by the stream, their yellow-green points of light dancing and flickering, like a river of stars fallen to the mortal world, lighting up the night with their faint glow.

The night breeze brushed past, and from the distance came the chirping of cicadas, crisp and lingering, never-ending, like a night song that could not be finished.

Such a forest, such a stream, such a night, the Demon Realm had never had, and never would have, yet You Yan did not feel unfamiliar with it.

This place was merely an unremarkable corner in the vast human world; if compared to the immortal mountains of Kunlun, it was far inferior.

A flying insect landed on the little alpaca’s ear. The little alpaca couldn’t help but twitch its furry ears, and after the insect left, it twisted its body to change position, shifting slightly toward a softer direction.

But with this shift, she moved directly to the base of You Yan’s thigh. Then, perhaps having a sweet dream, she suddenly smacked her little lips and, with a silly smile, rubbed her little head back and forth twice on this “soft pillow.”

You Yan was tickled by this furry little head, and she subconsciously tensed her legs. After a brief silence, she frowned and forcefully shook the leg that was being pressed, startling the little alpaca from its dream.

“What’s wrong!” Yi Qiu abruptly jumped up from You Yan’s body, her round eyes filled with bewilderment, her long neck held ramrod straight. Her four little slender legs, which had suddenly stood up, were weak and trembling—not out of fear, but because everything from being startled awake to standing up had happened too suddenly.

You Yan had a displeased look on her face, but when the words reached her lips, she hesitated.

After staring at each other for several seconds, You Yan said indifferently, “You’re making my leg go numb.”

Yi Qiu gritted her teeth; You Yan was clearly making a sarcastic jab at her weight.

You Yan originally had a small flame of anger in her heart, but seeing Yi Qiu’s bared-teeth expression, she couldn’t help but chuckle, “Silly look.”

“I…” Yi Qiu had just slowly come to her senses from her dream, only to be mocked for her weight and then her intelligence. For a moment, she wanted to retort but didn’t dare, so she could only turn her head away, her eyes filled with grievance.

You Yan said nothing more, just raised the corners of her mouth, looking with great interest at the furry, silly little thing before her.

Yi Qiu twisted her neck, sulkily looking into the distance, but her gaze was soon captivated by the night scenery of the quiet mountain forest.

She had grown up in a modern, bustling metropolis. For as long as she could remember, she had never seen green mountains and clear waters outside of a scenic area, let alone romantic fireflies bright enough to illuminate the dark night when it was deep and quiet.

They flew by the stream, they landed on the grassy lawn, they circled beside her, so beautiful it was like a scene that would only appear in games or anime.

She forgot that she was sulking and subconsciously moved closer to the few nearest ones, but as soon as she took a step, she startled them into flying half a meter away.

With the fireflies fleeing like that, the little alpaca couldn’t help but stare blankly for two seconds.

After coming to her senses, she grew playful, and her four little legs bounced toward the area where the fireflies were dense.

For a time, in this quiet mountain forest, there was only a leaping little alpaca, chasing after the specks of fluorescent light, bouncing around everywhere, happy as a fool, just like a child.

You Yan watched from the side for a long time. In her originally placid eyes, a trace of warmth had appeared at some unknown time.

Before long, Yi Qiu was tired from playing, and her stomach began to growl uncooperatively.

Turning back to look at You Yan, she happened to see her starting a fire and roasting the corn she had conveniently bought in the city during the day.

Yi Qiu smelled the aroma and trotted over with a wagging tail, sitting obediently to the side, waiting to be fed.

That night, after eating her fill, Yi Qiu once again fell asleep leaning against You Yan’s body.

A dreamless night, until dawn.

The morning sun sprinkled upon the shallow stream.

Yi Qiu woke up with a yawn, squinting her eyes as she looked around. Her little head was not yet clear, but it had already received a fright.

You Yan was gone! Not even half a shadow of her!

She didn’t just ditch me, did she?

Thinking this, Yi Qiu became anxious. As if she had lost her mind, she spun around in place like a top for a long time before remembering she could look for footprints to find someone.

You Yan’s steps were always very light, but fortunately, this place was rarely visited by people. With effort, she could still discern human footprints.

Yi Qiu anxiously followed the footprints for a while and finally saw that white robe in the distance. Overjoyed, she immediately drove her four little short legs at high speed, shouting “Master” while madly running to catch up.

Her speed was so fast, it was as if she were rushing to reincarnate, afraid that if she were a step slower, she would be left behind.

“Master!”

“Master, slow down!”

“Master, wait for me!”

Yi Qiu was exceptionally agitated, calling out to You Yan’s soul from a great distance.

That milky voice came from far to near. Perhaps because she was a little tired from running, it sounded soft and weak.

Hearing the sound, You Yan turned her head for a look, only to see the furry little alpaca, staring with a pair of dazed and innocent beady eyes, trotting all the way to catch up.

Silly, but unexpectedly a little cute.

She stopped in her tracks, standing on the spot to wait for the little alpaca to catch up, only then did she tease, “Calling for a soul? Little fool.”

“Master, Master…” Yi Qiu couldn’t stop panting heavily, her eyes filled with aggrieved tears. “You, why did you leave by yourself? You have to take me with you wherever you go…”

You Yan could see that the fear in the little alpaca’s eyes was not the least bit fake.

Yi Qiu was indeed scared. Although reason told her that the main quest hadn’t even begun to take shape, and You Yan had no reason to abandon her at this point in time, she was still frightened when she woke up and saw not a trace of You Yan beside her.

Now, she had finally caught up. When she saw You Yan’s figure from afar, it was as if she had met her dearest relative, and she was exceptionally happy.

But in the end, You Yan just asked her lightly, “Why did you follow me here?”

When Yi Qiu heard this, she felt so wronged she wanted to spit, but in the end, she held it in.

Isn’t that a stupid question? she thought. This is my tool-person villain who provides food and lodging, how could I not catch up?

If I really left You Yan now, I don’t even have a human form. What would I eat, what would I drink, and where would I live? How am I supposed to survive?

“How could you abandon me!” Yi Qiu’s words were filled with sadness.

Hearing this, You Yan felt not the slightest guilt and even laughed out loud.

“You!” Yi Qiu was choked with anger for a moment, the four large characters for “I am very hurt” written all over her face.

Seeing Yi Qiu’s pitiful look of being abandoned, You Yan couldn’t help but curve her brows and say, “I just went out to find you something to eat. When did I say I was going to abandon you?”

After speaking, she shook the small cloth bag full of fruit in her hand at Yi Qiu.

“Find… find something to eat? For me?” The little alpaca stared blankly for a long while before awkwardly letting out an “ah.”

Seeing Yi Qiu’s dazed little look, You Yan couldn’t help but curve her brows and smile, “What, you can’t be away from me for even this little bit of time?”

Yi Qiu was at a loss for words. Just as she was about to say something, she saw You Yan squat down and stuff a fruit that was the color of a strawberry but shaped like a mulberry into her mouth.

It was sour and sweet, and the taste was very fresh.

“What is this?” Yi Qiu asked while eating another one.

“Never seen it before,” You Yan said faintly. “So brightly colored, it might be poisonous.”

Yi Qiu choked for a moment, holding the unswallowed fruit fragments in her mouth, unable to spit or swallow.

Seeing this, You Yan smiled and rubbed her little head, saying, “Just teasing you! This is a raspberry, it’s edible.”

Yi Qiu gritted her teeth and swallowed the fruit.

This big bad bird’s bird-life must be very boring, she thought, otherwise why would she take every opportunity to toy with others?

“Since you’ve followed me, let’s go together,” You Yan said, getting up and patting the back of Yi Qiu’s head. “Let’s go back to Moshui and see if that incident at the teahouse yesterday blew up.”

“Someone suddenly died, the murderer is nowhere to be found, and the deceased’s leg was broken. How could it not blow up?” Yi Qiu muttered under her breath as she followed behind, craning her neck to ask, “Master wants to lure the cultivators of Xianlu Sect down the mountain. Do you have some kind of… fresh and interesting way to play?”

“Xianlu Sect is hidden within a layer of illusionary barrier. I need to find someone to lead me in,” You Yan said faintly.

“In this world, there’s a barrier that Master can’t break?” Yi Qiu insincerely paid a compliment.

You Yan lowered her brows to glance at Yi Qiu and said, “You must remember my identity.”

“Is… is it… Lord Demon Lord?” Yi Qiu couldn’t help but tremble.

Why is the big villain suddenly bringing up her identity? Did I pay the compliment in the wrong way and make her angry?

“Wrong,” You Yan frowned and said. “My identity is your master, Bai Jianyou of the Bai family from Heqiu. I came here only to enter Xianlu Sect and get a glimpse of the mysteries of an immortal sect.”

“Got it,” Yi Qiu secretly rolled her eyes.

What’s with the act, you ghost-frightener1.

Of course, she knew what the villain was going to do. Wasn’t it just to pretend to mix into Xianlu Sect, then trick the male lead, that big pig’s trotter, until he was utterly confused, and then start to drive a wedge between the male and female leads, causing trouble in various ways?

Sometimes she really couldn’t understand what those novel authors were thinking. The villain and the protagonists had no prior grudge; she just wanted to kill the son of the Heavenly Emperor to weaken the power of the Celestial Realm. She was clearly so powerful that killing the male and female leads during their mortal tribulation would be a matter of minutes, but she insisted on toying with them, making things extremely complicated, and then beautifully calling it “interesting.”

Interesting? More like toxic!

As Yi Qiu was thinking this, she suddenly saw You Yan stop in her tracks, her gaze fixed on the distance.

“What’s wrong?” She followed You Yan’s gaze.

In the distance, a person was coming up the mountainside. Her cultivation level was not as high as You Yan’s, so she couldn’t see their features clearly from so far away. But she didn’t know if it was a trick of the glaring sunlight, but she always felt that this person was shining with a golden light all over.

Just as she was about to say something, she saw a golden exclamation mark above the person’s head that was even taller than the person themself.
