Volume 4: Immeasurable
You Yan, you are so amazing.
“I’m not!”
Facing You Yan’s extremely narcissistic words, Yi Qiu’s first reaction was to loudly refute them.
No matter how you put it, before coming to this world, she’d always been a person who could independently support herself.
How could she possibly be completely unable to leave this bird woman?
At most… at most, she just couldn’t leave temporarily while in these deep mountains and wild forests.
She wasn’t an alpaca now. She had hands and feet, and she knew some simple magic arts. As long as she wasn’t in the deep mountains but in a human city, she could definitely rely on her own two hands to ensure she wouldn’t have to worry about food and drink.
As Yi Qiu thought this, she saw You Yan looking at her with a smile that was not a smile. For a moment, she actually felt her cheeks grow hot.
What’s she doing? This bird woman’s gaze looks as if she can’t wait to see right through me…
She couldn’t always be at a disadvantage like this.
Thinking of this, Yi Qiu felt somewhat unwilling. She bit her teeth, raised her eyes, and yelled, “What do you mean I can’t leave you? I have hands and feet now, I don’t need you to feed me! On the contrary, you’re the one who can’t leave me, right?”
“I can’t leave you?” You Yan raised a slender eyebrow, as if she’d heard some incredible joke.
“Isn’t that right?” Yi Qiu lifted her small head and began to seriously bring up old matters. “I wonder who it was, inside the Floating Dream Pearl’s Illusory Realm, who told me that she wanted me to always stay by her side, wanted to be with me forever, and even couldn’t wait to become a married couple with me!”
In that instant, You Yan’s expression changed.
Her long eyelashes trembled slightly. She quickly put away her smile, her gaze shifting uncomfortably to the side as she unconsciously blinked.
Seeing this, a satisfying feeling of “great and complete victory” suddenly rose in Yi Qiu’s heart.
Bird woman, don’t you like making fun of me? Now I’m holding a pile of your black history1, too!
Come on, let’s mutually harm each other!2
“I can’t speak well~ but Yi Qiu, to You Yan, you’re just like light~”
“Can I hold you while I sleep~”
“Whatever you say~ is what it is~~”
As Yi Qiu spoke, she sped up the rate at which her index finger stirred the water of the cold pond.
Her voice suddenly became affected and artificial3. She wished she could twist the end of every sentence into nine bends and eighteen turns.4
As she was speaking, she suddenly saw You Yan turn around with tightly furrowed brows. Thinking she was about to be hit, she hurriedly raised her arms to protect her head and face.
“Don’t, don’t! It’s not that serious! Just a joke, I was just kidding!”
The little alpaca demon wasn’t good at much, but she was exceptionally skilled at begging for mercy.
However, the anticipated pain never came. After a brief silence, she carefully lowered her arms and peeked at You Yan.
“Wuu!”
That single moment of relaxed vigilance earned her a flick on the temple.
That kinda hurts…
“Next time you hit me, can you pick a different spot?” Yi Qiu couldn’t help but mutter.
Why did You Yan love hitting her on the head so much?
If it wasn’t her temple, it was her forehead. If it wasn’t her forehead, it was the back of her head. If not those, she’d just dig a brain hole5 in her head.
This was simply adding frost on top of snow6 for her already less-than-brilliant little mind.
You Yan heard her but only smiled faintly and held out her left hand. A flash of spiritual light7 passed, and a handful of small, red wild fruits appeared in her fair palm.
Yi Qiu unconsciously pursed her lips, reached out to pick one up, and asked curiously, “Is it sour?”
Snake Mountain was an immortal mountain,8 so there were naturally many wild fruits here that she had never seen before. She had picked some herself earlier; some were sour and some were bitter, but sweet ones were few and far between.
This wild fruit looked quite pretty, but she didn’t know if You Yan had tried it. If it didn’t taste good, she didn’t want to eat it.
“You haven’t eaten all day, yet you’re still so picky?” You Yan said. Seeing a trace of grievance flash in Yi Qiu’s eyes, she quickly added, “I’ve tried it. It’s sweet.”
Hearing this, Yi Qiu tossed the fruit from her fingertips into her mouth.
You Yan was right. The wild fruit was sweet, without a trace of sourness or astringency.
This bird woman’s actually quite good at picking things.
Thinking this, she reached out and took all the fruits from You Yan’s hand. After eating several in a row, she seemed to remember something, picked up another one, and brought it to You Yan’s lips.
You Yan subconsciously leaned back a little. Seeing the fruit follow along with those slender white fingers, she somewhat uncomfortably opened her mouth and ate it.
Her warm, soft lips inadvertently brushed against those fingers, which were still a little icy from the cold pond.
Yi Qiu instinctively pulled her hand back and lowered her head to eat by herself. Though she ate quickly, her fingers were somewhat stiff.
After dozens of seconds of silence, You Yan looked at the nearly finished fruits in Yi Qiu’s hand, suddenly stood up, and said faintly, “I’ll go roast something for you.”
With that, she turned and vanished.
Yi Qiu looked up at the spot where You Yan had been sitting, her gaze vacant for a long time. As if unconsciously, she put her fruit-flavored index finger into her mouth and pressed it with her lips.
When she came back to her senses, she hurriedly wiped the finger on her clothes a few times.
What am I doing? What on earth am I doing… Yi Qiu couldn’t help but clench her fists, using her wrists to rub her temples.
Before long, You Yan returned to the mountaintop with a roasted chicken.
She used a rock to press a piece of oil paper to the ground. This was specifically for Yi Qiu to spit bones onto, saving her the trouble of spitting them on the ground where they couldn’t be cleaned up properly and might be discovered by that Yi Bird.
Yi Qiu hadn’t had a proper meal all day. The moment she got the roasted chicken, she began to eat happily.
As she ate, she seemed to notice You Yan’s gaze, which hadn’t shifted for even a moment. Feeling a bit at a loss, she raised her eyes.
“Haff… haff you eaden doday?”
Her mouth was still full of unswallowed meat, so her words were indistinct and rather amusing.
You Yan tried hard to hold back the laughter welling up inside her. She gently shook her head and replied with a smile, “I haven’t eaten yet today.”
Yi Qiu forcefully swallowed the food in her mouth and glanced at the roasted chicken she had gnawed into an unsightly mess. For a moment, she couldn’t find a single clean piece of meat to share with You Yan.
The blame lay with her for loving chicken skin the most. The second this little chicken was in her hands, she had gnawed all over its outermost layer.
“I… I should have asked you earlier. This… I’ve bitten all over this.”
Yi Qiu lowered her head, a little embarrassed. She thought for a moment, then pursed her lips and said, “Wait a second. I’ll tear off the parts I’ve bitten, and you can eat the rest.”
You Yan chuckled lightly. “It doesn’t matter.”
As she spoke, she reached out and tore off a chicken leg.
“Ei…”
“It’s not like I mind you,” You Yan said, then began to eat as if nothing was wrong.
Yi Qiu unconsciously swallowed and extended a clean finger to scratch her slightly hot earlobe.
She ate silently by the side for a good while before she finally couldn’t help but ask, “You Yan, why don’t you mind? Things that someone else has eaten aren’t very clean…”
You Yan said, “Indeed. Not very clean.”
Yi Qiu said, “You…”
You Yan couldn’t help but smile. “It’s not the first time you’ve spat a face full of saliva on me. Why would I be afraid to touch something you’ve eaten?”
Yi Qiu was stunned. With a vacant gaze, she said, “That’s… that’s not quite the same, is it?”
You Yan retorted, “How is it not the same?”
Then, she found the so-called difference herself. Under Yi Qiu’s gaze, she frowned and said seriously, “It really isn’t quite the same. The taste of this chicken you’ve touched hasn’t changed much, but the saliva spat from your mouth is ex-treme-ly stinky.”
Yi Qiu instantly took a deep breath.
She pouted but offered no rebuttal.
An alpaca’s saliva certainly couldn’t be ordinary saliva; it was supposed to be stinky. If it wasn’t stinky, it would have no attack power, let alone any insulting power. How could it be worthy of being her only innate skill after coming to this world?
“Why have you stopped talking?”
“…”
“I said you’re stinky, and now you’re not happy?” You Yan pressed.
“I’m not stinky!” Yi Qiu couldn’t help but frown.
You Yan laughed once again.
Yi Qiu rolled her eyes. “You’d better not laugh. Don’t make me angry, or I’ll really spit in your face!”
“If I were to guard against you, with that little bit of three-legged cat9 skill of yours, you wouldn’t be able to touch me at all.”
“Yes, yes, yes, you’re the most amazing!”
Yi Qiu said this and spoke no more, just lowering her head to eat her roasted chicken.
You Yan sat by the side for a long time. Seeing that Yi Qiu hadn’t taken the initiative to speak to her, she couldn’t hold back and cleared her throat.
Yi Qiu raised her eyebrows and glanced at You Yan. Seeing her looking as if she wants to speak but stopping again, she knew she had to give You Yan steps to walk down10. So, she obediently asked, “What’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing,” You Yan said, a trace of a smile appearing in her eyes. “Tomorrow, I’ll take you to Yi Bird’s home for a look.”
“Can we get in?” Yi Qiu asked.
“Mhm. When Yi Bird isn’t there, we can sneak in for a look,” You Yan said, her expression overflowing with pride. “There’s a barrier around it, but with her meager skills, it can’t stop me at all.”
“But if we pass through the barrier, won’t she discover us?”
“Of course not. Yi Bird’s cultivation base11 is far inferior to mine. I have plenty of ways to deceive her.”
Hearing this, Yi Qiu nodded.
She was silent for a long time before she couldn’t help but exclaim, “How can you do everything?”
“Hm?”
“You Yan, you’re so amazing,” Yi Qiu said seriously.
When You Yan heard this, she couldn’t help but lower her eyes, a hint of secret delight hidden in her gaze.
Yi Qiu had discovered that this bird woman quite liked being praised.
“I just casually praise you, and you get this happy?”
“I’m not.”
“You are!”
“If you say I am, then I am,” You Yan no longer argued, simply raising her eyes to look at the Thousand-Petal Lotus in the pond that was emitting a spiritual light.
Yi Qiu pondered for a moment. “You’re a Demon Lord, right? There should be many people who pat your horse’s butt.”12
“It’s not the same,” You Yan said. “Those people speak words against their hearts. It’s different with you.”
“How do you know I’m speaking from the heart?”
“I just know.”
Some little idiots13 just can’t hide things in their eyes. They can’t even deceive themselves, yet they want to deceive others.
