Volume 3: Old Tales of Kunlun
You Are Very Noisy.
The sweet dream within the dreamscape collapsed. That originally clean and simple little home turned into a dilapidated residence in the deep mountains that had been abandoned for a long time.
Yet You Yan still brought the little alpaca back here in the end.
Having left that dream, she had no home. Accompanied by drifting fireflies in summer, lying amidst ice and snow in winter; sun-scorched and rain-drenched, dining on wind and drinking dew1—this was every day and night for her over these past several hundred years.
She had long grown accustomed to this kind of life, but that little alpaca could not.
In all her years, she had never seen such a delicate little yaojing2. Eating required feeding, walking required carrying on the back; be slightly fierce, and tears would fall immediately.
At this very moment, the delicate little alpaca was lying prone on the bed You Yan had just cleaned up. She had never imagined that in the span of merely half a day, her quality of life would suffer such a massive drop.
This room had just been tidied up. At first, it was dirty and broken, with spiderwebs everywhere. Not only that, the roof was breached, and the doors and windows were broken; a single touch would emit an extremely piercing creak.
It was tidied up now, but it could not be counted as clean. It was only because the little alpaca had tearfully clamored about being unwilling to sleep in a place with spiderwebs that You Yan swept all those webs away and tidied up the bed in passing.
No one had lived here for at least several hundred years. Most of the furniture in the room was broken, and the bed was not much better. Lying motionless on it was fine, but move slightly and it would creak and groan, as if it might completely collapse at any moment.
The room had no quilt to wrap her in, and the small stove she had been roasting by during the day was gone. Facing such a cold night, she could only curl up her body, trembling while sneezing.
Outside, the heavy snow had not ceased. The night wind blew whoosh, and the chill stole in through the broken roof, doors, and windows, circling back and forth around her.
In this kind of environment, one simply could not sleep…
If she had known earlier… Yi Qiu began to regret walking through that door. Even if waking from the dream was something she had to face—at least she could have chosen to wait until she recovered from her illness before facing it.
As she thought this, she was suddenly startled by the incomparably piercing sound of the door being pushed open.
Lifting her eyes to look, it turned out You Yan had gathered some firewood and returned.
You Yan quickly started a fire in the room. Looking back to see the little alpaca had already frozen into a big white dumpling3, she frowned for a moment. After pondering briefly, she used spiritual power4 to temporarily plug the drafty parts of this broken house.
The temperature in the room warmed up bit by bit, and the little alpaca’s breathing smoothed out considerably.
Yet despite this, she still felt very cold.
Not just cold, but also very hungry.
She gazed at You Yan sitting alone by the fire and could not help swallowing her saliva. That little belly, which had not suffered grievance for a long time, unconsciously began to gurgle.
No matter how strong the wind outside was, such a sound could not escape You Yan’s ears.
You Yan remained silent for a long time, then suddenly stood up and once again left this gloomy, broken house.
Is she finding me noisy? Is she just dumping me directly? But I can’t control my stomach either.
Thinking this, Yi Qiu sniffled, jumped down from the bed, and lay prone by the fire.
Sure enough, it was warmer by the fire. The bed had no bedding; it was cold and hard. What kind of bed could that be counted as?
If there could be something to eat, it would be even better.
Helplessly, that real bird girl seemed to have no care for small animals at all.
Thinking of this, Yi Qiu could not help falling into deep thought. If this little You Yan was unwilling to raise her, how was she to survive in this dreamscape, wake her up, and take her out?
She thought she should still be able to survive. After all, a normal alpaca could not possibly starve to death just because no one fed it.
Then, how would a normal alpaca generally live?
First, they would eat grass…
Uh, forget it… An abnormal alpaca will definitely starve to death if no one feeds it.
Better to sleep first. Since there’s nothing to eat anyway, might as well go have a dream. Maybe I can eat something in the dream.
Thinking this, the little alpaca uncomfortably closed her eyes.
She was too tired. Her entire body was cold, hungry, and in pain. Her nose was completely stuffed too, so she could only rely on her mouth to breathe.
She fell asleep in a daze by the fire. Not knowing how much time had passed, she opened her eyes slightly and discovered a thin figure had appeared beside her.
She narrowed her eyes in exhaustion, subconsciously glancing at that figure. A set of red robes, long hair draped over shoulders. The dancing firelight outlined that exceptionally beautiful jawline. Just a side profile made one feel incomparably at ease.
“You Yan…” the little alpaca murmured softly.
You Yan turned her head and lowered her brow to look at the little alpaca, only to see the little alpaca had already closed her eyes once more.
She wished to speak but stopped for a moment. In the end, she did not disturb the little fellow’s sleep, only lowering her head to continue roasting the fish in her hand.
Before long, the fragrance of roasted fish overflowed the dilapidated room, only that little alpaca with the stuffed nose could not smell it.
She sneezed occasionally, sniffled, and twisted her curled-up body; clearly, she was not sleeping very comfortably.
Too uncomfortable…
Thinking this, Yi Qiu’s consciousness cleared up a bit.
She craned her neck and opened her right eye, happening to see the roasted fish in You Yan’s hand.
“En!” In that instant, the little alpaca unconsciously emitted a hum that only an alpaca would make. Her little head subconsciously reached forward, wanting to smell the fragrance, but was sanctioned by her stuffed nose.
“Awake?” You Yan asked indifferently.
“En!” Yi Qiu nodded, but her gaze could not leave that fish.
She temporarily did not want to think about when You Yan had returned, nor did she want to question whether the self of tomorrow could still follow behind You Yan’s butt. She only knew that she was extremely hungry right now, and there was a roasted fish in front of her—she wanted to eat it especially badly!
She was so greedy she swallowed saliva wildly.
You Yan handed the fish to her. She hurriedly opened her mouth to bite, yet instantly bit empty air.
“Wuwu…” The little alpaca let out an aggrieved hum.
“Hot. Has bones.” You Yan said, frowning. She tore it open with her hands, blowing on it to cool it while seriously picking the bones out from inside, only then feeding it into Yi Qiu’s mouth.
As Yi Qiu ate, her eyes unconsciously moistened.
In a trance, she actually felt she had returned outside the dreamscape, and sitting beside her was not that five-hundred-year-old bird girl, but that bird woman from outside the dream.
After all, before entering the dream, You Yan had once promised to roast fish for her to eat. For that one sentence, she had truly craved it for quite a long time—craved it until later she no longer craved it—yet unexpectedly, she received satisfaction on a night like this.
Before this, she had thought she was abandoned. She had thought this room, along with this fire pile, were merely the last trace of tenderness this heartless little bird left for her in this dreamscape.
Fortunately, this little bird did not truly dump her. Although she had not recovered the bird woman’s memories, she still retained the memories of the Little Red Flower and that half-Little You Yan. So, no matter how coldly she spoke, in the end, she still could not bear to dump her.
After finishing the roasted fish, You Yan wiped the little alpaca’s mouth, then fell into a bout of silence again.
Having filled her belly, Yi Qiu’s mental state improved instantly. She slightly moved her incomparably sore limbs, unconsciously emitting a kind of hum most easily made when stretching—mysteriously delicate.
You Yan could not help closing her eyes, slowly taking a deep breath.
The little alpaca, however, did not feel anything was inappropriate. She only knew she was exhausted, and for the next three or four days, her whole body would ache.
She felt this debt must be calculated upon You Yan.
Thinking this, Yi Qiu could not hold back and looked up to glare at You Yan.
Not glaring, one wouldn’t know; one glare gave a start. When she went to glare at You Yan, You Yan was also gazing at her.
She truly feared this kind of causeless eye contact, and also feared You Yan’s placid eyes. Every time she encountered this situation, she felt like a fool without a single thread on5; just one glance and she could be thoroughly seen through by You Yan, unable to hide a single secret.
“What… what are you looking at me for?” But the little alpaca could not possibly admit defeat today.
After all, she was very angry today, angry enough to aggressively spit all over You Yan’s face, and she did not chicken out on the spot. This was a victory of stages, an excellent beginning for the little alpaca to turn over from serfdom and sing6.
But this excellent beginning also had a fly in the ointment. For example—unwilling to chicken out, she was carried back on You Yan’s shoulder while cursing the whole way.
It had to be said, being carried on the back and being carried on the shoulder were truly two completely different experiences.
The former was quite comfortable; as for the latter… sigh, best not to mention it.
Thinking this, the little alpaca’s gaze instantly became much fiercer.
However, no matter how fierce an alpaca’s gaze was, it possessed no lethality whatsoever.
You Yan could not help chuckling softly. That look, that feeling, in the little alpaca’s view, was simply what one could often see in those dog-blood7 novels like 《The Domineering CEO Falls in Love with Me 》—three parts callousness, three parts ridicule, and four parts nonchalance8.
Yi Qiu took a deep breath.
“Nothing much, just felt…” You Yan paused here for a moment, then curved her brows and eyes, saying indifferently, “You are very noisy.”
Yi Qiu took another deep breath.
Where was she noisy? She hadn’t said a word, okay?! How was this bird woman You Yan like this when she was young?
Could it be that in the worldview of 《Thin, Withered Branch》, the specialty product of Kunlun Mountain is bamboo shoots9?
Forget it, forget it. Don’t get angry, don’t get angry; if I ruin my body from anger, no one will take my place.
“Fine, I’ll be quiet, I won’t make a sound!” Yi Qiu said, twisting her head to the side in a huff.
But the next second, her little nose itched, and she could not stop letting out a big sneeze, causing her body to tremble along with it.
That annoying chuckle appeared again.
The little alpaca turned her head and said angrily, “Laugh again and I’ll spit on you!”
Who was she bullying? She dared not spit on the Venerable of the Demon Realm, but did she not dare to spit on a wild girl in a dreamscape?
You Yan was not angry upon hearing this. She simply reached out and rubbed Yi Qiu’s head, accidentally hurting the fresh “brain hole”10 scratched out on that head, which was still somewhat hot.
Yi Qiu sucked in a breath of cold air from the pain, her body trembling violently with it.
You Yan subconsciously retracted her fingers. After a brief hesitation, she placed the pad of her index finger gently on the wound again, using spiritual power to alleviate that pain.
This time, Yi Qiu was much quieter.
Not knowing how much time had passed, she heard You Yan open her mouth to ask a sentence.
“You little saliva sheep, are you truly from outside the dream?”
