Because I also have your partial love
Su Wenwen and Luo Xi were hiding in a corner. Many team members who had finished dinner passed by one after another, yet surprisingly, they didn’t discover the overlapping figures under the dim light.
The cold wind howled, and the snowflakes grew much larger. The students were shivering from the cold and hurriedly ran toward the dormitory building. Only Su Wenwen and Luo Xi seemed to be isolated in another world, unable to feel the slightest chill. Instead, an enchanting atmosphere of wanting to speak yet hesitating spread between them.
When almost everyone had left, Su Wenwen finally lifted her head from the warm, soft embrace. The fragmented lamplight shining through the window fell on Luo Xi’s fair face, as if plating it with a layer of light, making her appear particularly dazzling in the night, so beautiful it was entrancing.
Luo Xi was wearing a long, cool-white down jacket today. Snowflakes fell on her clothes, making it hard to tell one from the other. Su Wenwen reached out and patted it; it was quite thick. She didn’t know how long Luo Xi had been waiting here. “What have you been busy with recently?”
“I made a special trip to visit Luo Qi.”
With the people around Luo Tianyang being suppressed like this, logically, he should have made some move. Luo Xi observed in secret for a few days but saw no action from him, so she paid a personal visit to Luo Qi in the capacity of an older sister.
When Luo Qi saw Luo Xi, his emotions were very stable, not as exaggerated as others had said. Not only that, Luo Qi even used his mental power to probe Luo Xi, but he didn’t expect her mental power to be so strong. He suffered a backlash and was left in a completely foolish and dazed state.
After Luo Tianyang returned home and saw his son had become a fool, he surprisingly didn’t turn hostile. Suppressing his rage, he requested Old Master Luo to make a decision. When the Old Master saw his grandson in such a state, he was so angered that he fainted directly.
With his granddaughter on one side and his grandson on the other, Old Master Luo was deeply grieved. He directly ordered the removal of all of Luo Xi’s positions, stating that if anyone helped her, they would be dismissed as well. Although Old Master Luo didn’t usually manage the base’s affairs, most people would still give him face. After a collective meeting, the final decision was to dismiss Luo Xi.
In other words, Luo Xi could no longer participate in any work at the base. With no work, there was no income, and she could only rely on the crystal cores given by Ji Qingshuang for her daily expenses.
“I still have some crystal cores here…” Su Wenwen’s first reaction was to comfort Luo Xi. She thought about the considerable number of crystal cores in her spatial backpack and planned to give them all to Luo Xi. After all, she wouldn’t need them while training here.
Luo Xi tilted her head and looked at her. “Are you trying to comfort me?”
The warm-colored light shone on Luo Xi’s deep, serene eyes, as if a painter had deliberately given her the brush stroke that dots the eyes1 with rich ink and vibrant colors. Under her glances that generates splendor2, she was alluring, tempting one to stop and gaze as if before a painting.
Su Wenwen couldn’t help but look a couple more times. They had clearly only been apart for a few days, yet it inexplicably gave her the feeling of ten thousand years in a single glance3 amidst the rush of time. This torrent of time was only broken when Luo Xi whispered something in her ear.
She said, “I don’t need comfort, because I also have your partial love.”
With you here, all my worries disappear, and all the unpleasantness no longer matters. As long as I have this partial love, I will always be happy.
Su Wenwen had heard plenty of cheesy sweet nothings, but hearing Luo Xi repeat words she herself had once said—how could that not be a special kind of love? It meant that everything she said and did was clearly remembered in Luo Xi’s heart.
This feeling made her feel light in body and mind. A seed of being pleased with herself and forgetting her form4 exploded in her chest, making her want to make demons5 unscrupulously in front of Luo Xi, to endlessly demand that partial love.
But as an adult, Su Wenwen wouldn’t actually do that. Besides, she was two years older than Luo Xi; she had to maintain some maturity in front of her partner. “Stop being so cheesy. Since you’ve been dismissed, what do you plan to do next?”
“Before Luo Qi became a fool, I used my mental power to force him to say a few things. The Adjutant was sent out by Luo Tianyang a few days ago, but I don’t know what he’s doing specifically for now. However, my mom might know something. After all, she started laying the groundwork to lure Luo Tianyang into a trap a long time ago.”
Su Wenwen heard this and, with belated realization, glanced at Luo Xi. “Then… you guessed it all?”
“Actually, I was certain it was Luo Tianyang a long time ago, it’s just that…” Luo Xi sighed. “I was reluctant to think of it that way. Don’t worry, I won’t ruin her plan.”
Su Wenwen heard this and naturally didn’t say much more. Seeing the snow getting heavier, she could only exchange a few brief words with Luo Xi before shooing her away.
Back in the dormitory, because the temperature was too low, no one went to shower. Everyone just hid under their quilts to stay warm. Su Wenwen also took off her clothes and got into her quilt.
“Involution King Su, have you heard? People froze to death over at the restricted zone hospital. It nearly caused a riot in the restricted zone due to corpse transformation. Luckily, the Commander-in-Chief reacted quickly and got the situation under control.”
“I think that even though the situation is under control, it’s still caused people’s hearts to be alarmed and terrified. The people in the hospital are all about to die anyway. Arranging for them to be cared for outside the base should be fine.”
“You can’t say that. What if one day we get seriously injured while out on a mission? Are we also going to be thrown outside the base to wait for death?”
“If it’s really like that, I’d rather just die sooner. It would be a release, I guess!”
Su Wenwen had also heard Luo Xi mention these things. The situation was under control, but it led to more people proposing to move the hospital patients outside the base. And because of Luo Xi’s recent punishment, Ji Qingshuang’s right to speak had been greatly diminished.
Luo Tianyang was the one who initiated the proposal to care for the patients outside the base, so the number of his supporters naturally grew.
As one’s influence waned, the other’s waxed. Ji Qingshuang faced the possibility of being sidelined. To avoid this, Luo Xi had to win the support of the Ao family in the coming days. With the Ao family’s technology and ability users, others wouldn’t dare to pick sides so easily.
Based on Ao Ge’s “licking dog6” persona, the probability of Luo Xi successfully winning him over was very high. It’s just that Su Wenwen felt a little uncomfortable about it, but under the circumstances, she could only slowly suppress this feeling.
The snow was much lighter today, and, in a rare move, the male and female team members were gathered for training together. It felt like some kind of announcement was about to be made, making the day feel a little unusual.
“Today, the men and women will form teams to compete against each other…”
Men and women teaming up meant it was a team competition. However, there was an obvious gap in physical fitness and strength between them. They had to compete against other teams while also looking out for their own teammate, which was an extreme test of their mutual understanding.
The male team member paired with Su Wenwen was quite handsome. However, according to her roommates, he was a “thorn head7” who didn’t take well to discipline. During the competition, in his quest for a high score, he would definitely not look out for Su Wenwen.
Sure enough, the male team member glanced at Su Wenwen, lifted his chin, and spoke to her with his nostrils: “You’d better not drag my hind leg8.”
Su Wenwen just smiled, but her roommates couldn’t stand it and shot back at him with harsh words, “It’s not certain who will be dragging who back yet!”
“Exactly! Involution King Su, let him see how formidable our dorm leader is.”
Su Wenwen gave a helpless smile.
The male team member paid them no mind, taking it all as them blowing a cow’s vagina9. However, when the male training officer saw his attitude, he gave him a fierce reprimand. But from his lax appearance, it was clear he didn’t take the training officer seriously either.
The competition was simple: an obstacle course. The team that used the least amount of time would win. The winning team would then have to toss a coin to choose whether to be the defending or attacking side in the next day’s male-female offense-defense battle.
“So, that means tomorrow is practical combat training?”
This news, however, made everyone even more excited. After so many days of training, they didn’t know what their abilities were truly like. Practical combat training would reveal their individual and team capabilities.
When the competition began, the female and male team captains went first to give a demonstration. Their flags and drums are evenly matched10. When crossing the balance beam, the female captain’s nimble posture put her slightly ahead of the male captain, but she was a bit slower on the rope climb. Just as they reached the high wall, the male captain stood at the base, cupped his hands, and let the female captain use them to vault up the wall.
Even though it was their first time cooperating, the two coordinated with extreme chemistry, finishing in three and a half minutes. When it was the other teams’ turn, none performed as well as the first team; there was always some small flaw, causing them to be slower by more than ten seconds.
Just as it was almost Su Wenwen’s team’s turn, the male training officer suddenly turned his head and said to Wang Kelin, “I hear her name is Su Wenwen. Is she the most outstanding member of your team?”
Wang Kelin nodded. “I just don’t know what will happen when the most outstanding and the most difficult to manage are assigned to the same team.”
The male training officer laughed. “It’s time to teach that kid a lesson, so he won’t always be looking down on people.”
“Hey, are you that certain Su Wenwen can win?”
“I trust your judgment.”
The whistle for the next round blew, and Su Wenwen and the male team member shot forward at the same time. The man was like a cheetah, but Su Wenwen was like a gust of wind. Whether on the balance beam or the ropes, she was consistently a step ahead of him. The trench, the high-platform jump—all her movements were like flowing clouds and moving water11. Her posture was free and elegant, possessing an indescribable, dashing quality12 that made the female team members below scream repeatedly, their hearts’ tides surging with excitement.
Sweat beaded continuously on the male team member’s forehead. He was relying purely on his refusal to admit defeat to stay right behind Su Wenwen. However, seeing her posture, as light and airy as a feather, gave one the illusion that she could easily clear the high wall ahead all by herself.
That wall was three meters high; it was impossible to get over without two people cooperating. Illusion or not, he couldn’t possibly step on Su Wenwen’s shoulders to climb up, could he?
How shameful would that be!
At this thought, he used all his strength to catch up to Su Wenwen. Su Wenwen glanced back at him and noticeably slowed her pace.
He was stunned for a moment. Before he had time to figure anything out, they were at the base of the high wall. He hurriedly got into position, letting Su Wenwen step on his hands and shoulders to climb up. Afterwards, Su Wenwen turned and pulled him up as well.
With just that one pull, he was completely won over. When he had cooperated with other male team members to climb the high wall, their strength wasn’t as great as Su Wenwen’s. He hadn’t even had time to exert his own strength before he was pulled up.
His earlier arrogance made him feel incomparably ashamed. To think that he thought Su Wenwen would drag his hind leg—it turned out he was the one dragging the hind leg.
