I Pursued My Scummy Ex’s White Moonlight – Chapter 79

Joining the Training

Previously, when Old Master Luo heard that Luo Xi had a girlfriend, he was very resistant in his heart. Therefore, from the moment Su Wenwen entered the door until now, he had not even given her a proper look. Upon hearing these words now, his mind stirred, and he began to size her up quietly.

Although Su Wenwen’s appearance couldn’t be described as outstanding, it was not bad either. This was especially true of her eyes, which were clean and translucent, making it easy for people to believe her words, unlike others whose eyes were full of pretense.

Putting aside the fact that Su Wenwen was Luo Xi’s girlfriend, Old Master Luo had to admit that just looking at her appearance, she was quite likable.

He sighed softly. In contrast, his own granddaughter was overbearing and didn’t know how to yield in the slightest. However, looking at Luo Xi’s features, he was reminded of his own son who had died young, and he suddenly said to Luo Xi in annoyance, “This matter ends here. If you continue to be overbearingly aggressive1, then get out of the Sea Base.”

Hearing this, Su Wenwen quickly pulled Luo Xi’s sleeve, said “Okay,” and led her away. Otherwise, there was no telling how badly this grandfather and grandchild duo would have argued.

Su Wenwen’s feet left footprints of varying depths on the pure white snow. Luo Xi quietly followed behind, walking in her tracks. Although there were two people, only one set of prints was left, just like Luo Xi’s feelings for Su Wenwen—acting as a support to help her kill zombies, not caring how others treated her, but never allowing Su Wenwen to be bullied.

It seemed that no one benefited from today’s events, but the fact that Luo Tianyang’s subordinates were cut and he didn’t show his face had already caused some wavering2 people to lean towards Ji Qingshuang. She didn’t believe that Luo Tianyang could still sit still in such a situation. Once he started to get anxious, he would easily reveal his flaws, and then she could deliver a fatal blow.

Pu. A soft, cold snowball hit Luo Xi in the face while she was lost in thought, then scattered onto the snowy ground.

Luo Xi looked up to see Su Wenwen bending over to form a new snowball. Seeing Su Wenwen’s joyful smile, her mood lightened considerably, and she also rolled a snowball to launch an attack at Su Wenwen.

The two were both agile, neither yielding to the other. Bell-like3 laughter echoed in the snow. They played and fought for the entire afternoon without feeling tired, instead venting all the frustration they had accumulated at the Luo residence.

However, once she returned home, Su Wenwen inevitably started thinking about the difficult problem of how to improve her strength. Recently, due to the weather, a thin layer of ice had formed on the sea, making it impossible for people to walk on it or for boats to sail. As a result, even missions that required long-distance travel were gone. And she couldn’t possibly leave the base to venture out on her own.

Su Wenwen sat on the sofa, her whole body leaning to one side. Perhaps because she was too worried about stagnating and not moving forward, even the shadows cast by her long eyelashes seemed heavy.

“What’s wrong?” Luo Xi sat down beside her.

Su Wenwen didn’t know how to explain her situation and didn’t want to make Luo Xi worry, so she just shook her head and said it was nothing.

Seeing her absent-minded look, Luo Xi knew that Su Wenwen’s “nothing” was actually “something.” Just then, the power in the villa went out. It was snowing outside and there was no moonlight, so dark that you could stretch out a hand and not see five fingers4. It scared Su Wenwen into letting out a cry of alarm. Luo Xi smoothly pulled Su Wenwen into her embrace and said in a soft, gentle voice, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”

Su Wenwen curled up in the soft, fragrant embrace. After the power outage, the air conditioner was like a mere formality5, and the nighttime cold dropped by several more degrees. The two leaned against each other, and their impetuous and restless hearts seemed to have found an anchor, becoming relaxed.

“Luo Xi, a couple of days ago, the Commander-in-Chief proposed having Wang Kelin lead a team to train the guards. I want to join too.”

This proposal had not yet been finalized, as the training content and the physical condition of individuals needed to be assessed. Furthermore, things like the number of participants, supplies, and so on all required careful consideration.

Luo Xi whispered in Su Wenwen’s ear, “Silly girl, Wang Kelin has never beaten me. If you want to train, why abandon the near to seek the far6.”

The breath by her ear was scorching hot, so hot that Su Wenwen’s restless heart began to beat wildly again. She feigned composure and said, “Oh? Then would you be willing to punch and kick me?”

“What kind of joke is that? How could I possibly do that to you…” Luo Xi paused, then understood Su Wenwen’s meaning, and her tone of voice became a little weak.

“Exactly. You can’t bring yourself to be harsh with me, but Wang Kelin can. And don’t you worry about me. Have you forgotten that I’m an unkillable xiaoqiang7?”

Su Wenwen knew Luo Xi wasn’t a pretentious person, so after saying this, she fell silent and waited quietly. Sure enough, after thinking for a moment, Luo Xi said in a reluctant tone, “Alright. But you have to promise me first: if you get injured, you can’t hide it from me; if you’re tired, you have to rest and not push yourself; and if someone bullies you, you must tell me.”

“Okay, okay, okay.”

After she said “okay” three times and repeatedly gave her assurance, Luo Xi nibbled Su Wenwen’s ear and finally agreed to let her train with Wang Kelin.

This training proposal was approved very quickly. During the training period, Su Wenwen would have to live and eat with the others. When Luo Xi found out, she kept a stern face, and Su Wenwen had to coax her for a long time before she was happy again.

While helping Su Wenwen pack her clothes, Luo Xi repeatedly emphasized that she shouldn’t get too close to other people, just like Mother Su worrying over her child. This made Su Wenwen burst out laughing, which was met with a passionate kiss from Luo Xi, who retaliated by leaving a clear red mark on her collarbone.

Fortunately, the weather was cold, so she wore thick clothes. By pulling up her collar, she didn’t have to worry about it being seen.

“You focus on your training. When my mom is a little less busy, I’ll come find you.” Luo Xi hugged Su Wenwen tightly, as if it were a parting in life and separation in death, making it hard to let go.

Luo Xi was, after all, two years younger than her. For a rare moment, Su Wenwen felt like an older sister. She soothed Luo Xi with a calm heart and harmonious spirit8, and looking at the beauty mark at the corner of her eye, she stood slightly on her tiptoes and gave her a kiss. It was a brief touch, separating almost instantly, feeling as unreal as a dream.

The camp was set up on the outskirts, with several buildings of varying heights enclosing a vast open area. As soon as Su Wenwen stepped into the camp, she received a notification on her system panel that she had triggered the basic training skill. It also stated that during the training period, she could choose to disable her system’s attribute bonuses.

She opened the training skill. It listed Firearms Proficiency, Martial Arts Proficiency, and Cold Weapons Proficiency. The skills could only be leveled up to ten and required spending training points. These training points could only be obtained through being taught by others.

She could only choose one of the three skills. Once a skill was maxed out, she would no longer be able to obtain training points. For Su Wenwen, firearms were not of much use, so she would choose between Martial Arts Proficiency and Cold Weapons Proficiency.

With Martial Arts Proficiency, each level up would increase her attack power and agility by five points. With Cold Weapons Proficiency, each level up would allow her to stack an additional ten points to her attack power when holding a weapon.

Su Wenwen chose Weapons Proficiency.

Afterwards, many people arrived one after another.

Everyone was wearing many layers of clothing, standing on the training ground, constantly rubbing their hands or jumping to stay warm. A few people recognized Su Wenwen and came up to greet her, but they had only exchanged a couple of sentences when Wang Kelin arrived on the training ground in an armored vehicle. She was awe-inspiring9, and her cold gaze swept over the crowd without lingering on anyone.

“Why are there still a few people who haven’t arrived?”

With just a glance, Wang Kelin read out the names of the absentees. She asked the others about them, but everyone shook their heads, indicating they didn’t know. Without another word, Wang Kelin punished the entire group by making them run ten laps around the training ground.

It was everyone’s first day, so seeing such a display, no one dared to say anything. They put down their backpacks and obediently started running. Su Wenwen ran with her spatial backpack on, as she didn’t dare to leave it on the ground, in case it was taken by someone with crippled eyes.

At this moment, Wang Kelin stepped out of the armored vehicle. The few who had arrived leisurely late hurriedly ran up to report to her. She said nothing, only making the latecomers watch the team members run on the training ground.

For those who had trained before, running ten laps was still relatively easy. They finished first, then bent over, panting, and rested where they stood. Su Wenwen ran in the middle of the group, not too fast and not too slow, and also completed the ten laps smoothly.

Those with poorer physical fitness sat directly on the ground after finishing, as if moving for even one more second was an immense challenge for them.

Wang Kelin simply had the guards behind her lead everyone back to their respective dormitories to rest. Someone pointed at the latecomers and asked, “Don’t they have to run?”

“You have already run for them.”

“On what basis?”

“On the basis that I am your training officer. You only need to obey my orders. Anyone unwilling to follow orders can leave right now.”

Hearing this, the person fell silent. He turned his head to glare fiercely at the latecomers, then followed the guard to the dormitory.

The buildings were separated for men and women, with the male team members being the responsibility of a male training officer. Su Wenwen was assigned to a six-person dormitory. The bedding in the dorm had already been laid out in advance, so one could move in right away. The five girls she was rooming with were all ordinary people, though their physical fitness was slightly better than average. The reason they had come to train was simply to gain more skills to protect themselves in the apocalypse.

Judging by their age, they looked like newly enrolled university students. Seeing them, Su Wenwen was reminded of her own best friend and roommates. Apart from her best friend, she had gradually lost contact with her roommates after graduating from university. She didn’t know if they were still alive.

Su Wenwen placed her spatial backpack on the bed. She had just laid down for a moment when Wang Kelin pushed open the door and walked into the dormitory. Su Wenwen quickly flipped up and stood steadily on the ground.

The others were in for it. They had just run ten laps and were feeling very tired, so they wanted to take a nap. They had just taken off their clothes when Wang Kelin launched a turning-horse spear10, catching them with no time to place their hands. Their clothes were thrown on crookedly.

Wang Kelin ordered everyone to quickly change into their training uniforms. Su Wenwen’s movements were nimble, and she changed in a flash. Although the others had also put on their clothes, they looked strangely ill-fitting, as if not worn properly.

Belts were crooked, collar buttons were undone, and shoelaces were loose. Seeing their lazy and scattered manner, the veins on Wang Kelin’s forehead throbbed. They received “special attention” from Wang Kelin during the afternoon training.

Their time in the horse stance11 was longer than others, and they had to run more laps than others. Even though it was an exceptionally cold winter, everyone was covered in a thin layer of sweat, which froze into a crystalline frost when the wind blew.

But Su Wenwen wasn’t afraid of the cold; in fact, she also wanted to receive some of this “special attention.” She had glanced at her panel and saw that her training points hadn’t moved at all, and she wondered if it was because the training intensity wasn’t high enough.
