I Pursued My Scummy Ex’s White Moonlight – Chapter 59

Arrival at the Sea Base

The zombie dolphin thrashed violently after being entangled in the water net, causing the seawater to churn with it. This made the already precarious glass shatter completely. Seawater poured in through the opening, and soon, everyone was floating. The water level nearly filled the entire hall; one could touch the deck overhead just by raising a hand.

Mental power compressed the zombie dolphin, visibly tearing its body apart. It was like the petals of a flower being plucked one by one, yet it held no beauty, only a terrifying strangeness.

At the final moment of its death, the zombie dolphin let out a piercing shriek, causing the waves to slam against the cruise ship once more. The water-filled hall roiled in response, and Chen Zixuan was flipped into the water. She was still holding a child in her arms, and when the child choked on water and began to struggle, it momentarily prevented her from surfacing.

Just as she was about to run out of air, she was lifted to the surface by Luo Xi’s mental power. Sucking in air, she coughed violently. The child in her arms began to cry, making her realize that the remaining space was rapidly shrinking. The others were breathing heavily, overcome with fear.

Everyone fixed their gazes on Luo Xi, praying she could quickly right the ship. But the entire cruise ship was now sinking. Even if it were flipped over, it was uncertain if Luo Xi could hold out long enough to lift such a massive vessel back to the sea’s surface.

Perhaps due to the overuse of her mental power, Luo Xi’s complexion looked deathly pale. The crystal core in her hand flashed with a red gleam, and then the deck above began to turn over. But just then, the last pocket of air in the ship was about to be filled. Just as everyone was about to be submerged, Su Wenwen quickly shouted, “You water ability users, delay it as much as you can—”

Before she could finish her sentence, Su Wenwen was engulfed by the seawater, and a trace of panic rose in her heart. The murky water below was pitch-black, making it impossible to see her surroundings. The air in her lungs was dwindling, and her system panel was alerting her to oxygen deprivation, her health steadily dropping with each passing second.

Opening her five senses, she saw a red glow surrounding Luo Xi and immediately swam toward her. Seeing Luo Xi’s eyes shut and her brow tightly furrowed, she instantly hooked an arm around her, pressed her own lips against hers, and passed over the air from her lungs.

Luo Xi opened her eyes, not a hint of fear within them. Instead, she reached out, hooked her hand around the nape of Su Wenwen’s neck, and passed the air back. Then, as she let go, the tip of her tongue lightly brushed against Su Wenwen’s. It seemed unintentional, yet it sent a shiver through Su Wenwen’s heart.

Luo Xi smiled and pointed at the shattered window. Su Wenwen instinctively looked over and saw several zombie dolphins swimming in, drawn by the scent of blood. She immediately gripped her dagger and swam over.

Moving in the water was incredibly inconvenient; her limbs felt as if they were bound by something, and it was difficult to control her direction. A slight lapse in concentration and her whole body would tilt. She couldn’t touch the agile zombie dolphins at all. Instead, she was flanked from both sides, their round mouths ramming into her body. The pain was real, but when she saw a zombie dolphin swimming toward Luo Xi, she couldn’t care about anything else.

Su Wenwen sliced open her palm with her dagger. Bright red blood quickly dispersed in the water. Sniffing the scent of blood, the zombie dolphins changed direction and rushed toward Su Wenwen. She seized the opportunity, and the moment a dolphin drew near, her hand rose and the knife fell1, stabbing it in the head.

Only after she had dealt with all the zombie dolphins that had broken in did Su Wenwen realize that three minutes had passed. The other people on the ship were already convulsing and unconscious. Only Luo Xi was still holding on, but there was no telling for how much longer.

She was frantic, but her lungs were also out of oxygen. She was barely holding on thanks to a health-restoring item from her system. She glanced back at the others, including Helian Yun; they were all motionless. Her heart instantly sank to the bottom of a valley.

If Luo Xi can’t hold on either, then I can only make the cruel choice to take Luo Xi and Chen Zixuan with me. As for the others, I’m powerless to help.

Just then, a faint beam of light appeared at the window. Su Wenwen’s face lit up with joy. She quickly swam to the window to check. A warship was shining a searchlight into the sea. The beam grew stronger, and the moment the cruise ship successfully surfaced, Su Wenwen shattered the glass with a punch. The outflow of seawater was so rapid that it swept her out of the hall and onto the outer deck.

The crew on the warship were stunned to see her. They quickly dispatched a rescue team to board the ship. Once the water level had dropped, they entered the hall and began performing CPR on the people lying on the floor, but not a single person woke up.

Just as they were about to give up and evacuate, Luo Xi knelt beside Chen Zixuan and placed a palm on her chest. Without any visible movement, Chen Zixuan let out a “wah” and vomited seawater.

Seeing this, Su Wenwen immediately understood that Luo Xi had used her mental power to forcibly expel the water from Chen Zixuan’s stomach and lungs. The others were revived one by one. The child was also fine, just frightened and crying nonstop.

The first thing everyone did upon waking was cry—tears of joy after surviving a disaster, one might say. They all expressed their gratitude to Luo Xi. Only the Adjutant was the same as ever, his face cold, looking as if someone owed him five million.

The gale outside continued to rage, though it had weakened slightly. The other civilian ships continued toward the Sea Base, while one warship chose to stay behind for the search and rescue. The Adjutant gave an order for the crew to inspect whether the cruise ship could still travel. Fortunately, the ship was sturdy enough, and the engine room door was waterproof and had not been flooded, so it was still operational.

The Adjutant had the ship use the cover of the wind and rain to cross this stretch of sea, with the warship providing cover up ahead. The two vessels raced through the storm. Before long, they spotted a civilian ship adrift on the sea not far away. The ship looked deathly still, drifting further away with the current.

The Adjutant merely gave it a cold glance and paid it no mind. The others also kept their heads down without a word. Su Wenwen said nothing either, because she had used her five senses to look at that ship—everyone inside was dead, turned into zombies.

About an hour later, they finally saw a small island. The island was surrounded by a heavy iron net, with only one entrance and one escape route. Behind the net was a dense jungle, and in the center of the island stood a towering iron pylon and windmills. The ship sailed into the harbor and docked. Many guards stood along the port.

The Adjutant was the first to disembark and speak with the guards.

The others disembarked one after another. Su Wenwen followed behind Luo Xi, looking up at the dark clouds in the sky, which had already scattered a great deal, gradually revealing the blue of the sky.

“Ah, we’re finally safe,” Chen Zixuan said, patting the child in her arms. “What about this child? You can’t just leave him with me, can you?”

Su Wenwen couldn’t possibly stay peacefully at the base to raise a child, and the others were struggling to survive themselves, so naturally, none of them wanted to take on a child. Thus, she didn’t know what to do either. Fortunately, the Adjutant turned back at that moment and said, “Children without the ability to survive will be managed centrally by the base. You can just hand the child over to the guards.”

Chen Zixuan nodded. The moment she handed the child to a guard, he began to wail, refusing to let go, but in the end, he was still carried away by the guard.

Su Wenwen saw the child’s helpless gaze and sighed helplessly. In the current environment, having children without survival skills managed centrally by the base is indeed the best solution.

The Adjutant spoke again, “For safety, everyone must undergo another inspection. Those who pass will be fitted with an identity identifier on their wrist. From now on, you must undergo a physical examination once a month. If you miss the deadline, the identifier will sound an alarm, and your movements will be restricted. Please remember this.”

Everyone nodded; no one objected.

Su Wenwen and Luo Xi entered a small house together for the inspection. The process went smoothly. Afterward, she was assigned a white identifier, while Luo Xi’s was black. The screen on the identifier displayed the word “Healthy.”

“Why is her identifier black?”

A nearby guard replied, “She is an ability user. The identifiers for ability users are black. It’s just for differentiation; the function is the same.”

Su Wenwen nodded and said nothing more. Once everyone had been inspected, the Adjutant led them deep into the jungle. The woods were monitored by cameras everywhere, and small defensive fortresses could be seen from time to time. Beyond the jungle was a high wall. The wall was already built, and behind it lay the full view of the Sea Base.

Rows of villas were built in neat lines, the roads were clean, and there were even workers sweeping. At first glance, it was no different from the peace of the pre-apocalyptic world, except there were fewer pedestrians on the streets and more guards.

The ordinary people followed a guard elsewhere. Su Wenwen was a special case, and the Adjutant didn’t make any strict demands, simply taking the other ability users to register. As Helian Yun was leaving, she glanced back at Su Wenwen, but Su Wenwen’s gaze was fixed entirely on Luo Xi.

In the end, she said nothing and followed behind the Adjutant. After registration, they would be assigned housing. Because Helian Yun’s healing ability was rather special, the Adjutant took her to see the Deputy Commander.

The Adjutant first had Helian Yun wait at the door, then knocked.

“Come in,” a deep male voice sounded.

The Adjutant pushed the door open and walked in, standing ramrod straight before the man. “Reporting to the Deputy Commander, Miss Luo has returned. Her ability is mental power.”

The man stood by the window, drinking red wine. He had a pair of cold eyes and a handsome face that bore a slight resemblance to Luo Xi. He showed no surprise at the Adjutant’s words, as his subordinates had already reported it when Luo Xi arrived on the island.

Seeing the man remain silent, the Adjutant continued, “Miss Luo has a lover with her, named Su Wenwen.”

The man paused for a moment. “A woman?”

The Adjutant nodded.

The man smiled, swirling the wine in his glass. “Interesting. I wonder if the old man will be angered to death when he finds out. Is that woman an ability user too?”

The Adjutant lowered his head, his eyes downcast, letting no one see the emotion in their depths. “I tested her with a crystal core. She has no abilities, just an ordinary person, but her skills are quite good.”

The Adjutant’s voice was not quiet, and Helian Yun at the door naturally overheard their conversation. She frowned. Just from the content of this conversation, it feels like the Deputy Commander specifically sent the Adjutant to monitor Luo Xi’s every move. Clearly, their relationship is complicated.

But… the Adjutant deliberately had me wait at the door. Was he intentionally speaking loudly for me to hear, forcing me to pick a side?

Helian Yun rubbed her brow, feeling for the first time that her own scheming was like playing house2 before a behemoth like the Luo family. It was a complete joke. No wonder Luo Xi had been so fearless; she had actually had a bamboo already formed in her chest before painting it3.
