One Wave Has Not Yet Settled, and Another Rises
As the sun gradually rose, it illuminated a massive whale on the sea’s surface. Its body no longer had any intact flesh; the muscle texture looked as if it had been cooked, with some parts turned white and others a charred black. Its enormous tail fin lifted high, causing the sea’s surface to ripple along with it, before slamming heavily against the ship’s hull, causing the vessel to shake violently.
Following that, the warship launched several torpedoes. But the distance was too close, and when the torpedoes exploded, the blast wave affected the ship’s hull. Columns of water shot up from the sea, and the intense pressure separated the ship from the whale.
The hull was severely damaged and taking on water in some places. Crew members rushed into the cabins, risking their lives to make repairs.
A chunk of the whale’s tail was blown off, making it difficult for it to swim. It struggled on the surface for a moment before charging furiously toward the warship. The crew, unable to fend for themselves, had no time to evade. They subconsciously held onto sturdy objects, bracing for the impact. Unexpectedly, after waiting for a while, there was no reaction. When they came to their senses and looked, the giant zombie whale seemed to be held back by something, its body thrashing constantly in the sea.
They had no time to think, immediately raising their guns to fire. Cannonballs and everything else were used. Another warship, the one closest to them, had already aimed its anti-aircraft platform at the zombie whale. The continuous stream of bullets looked like a beautiful line of light in the air, riddling the zombie whale until its guts were spilling out.
Gradually, the enormous body sank into the sea. But before everyone could breathe a sigh of relief, another massive tail fin slammed heavily onto the warship. Some crew members, caught off guard, were flipped off the ship. Just as they were about to fall into the sea, an invisible force suddenly dragged them back onto the deck. Having survived the close call, they looked around but found nothing.
The Adjutant glanced at Luo Xi, who was holding a crystal core, and took out his walkie-talkie to speak with the crew on the warship. “Deploy floating mines. The Ability Users on our side will coordinate with you to strike.”
As soon as he finished speaking, many naval mines floated to the surface. Upon contact with mental power, the mines, as if given life, all sank into the sea to find the zombie whale. Then, they attached themselves to its body one by one and detonated simultaneously.
A huge spray of water exploded on the surface before dissipating. The zombie whale’s body was blown into chunks of filth that floated on the sea. Seeing this, the crew members cheered with great excitement.
Su Wenwen noticed that Luo Xi’s expression held no joy and quickly asked, “What’s wrong? Did you overuse your mental power?”
Luo Xi shook her head. “More zombies are swimming this way. The number… is unknown.”
Su Wenwen was shocked. It seemed the recent battle had attracted all the nearby zombies. In the sea, zombies were practically invincible, with no marine life to keep them in check. In other words, the sea was teeming with zombies, and as a land-based creature, she had no way to fight in the water.
Just as everyone was at a loss after hearing Luo Xi’s words, the Adjutant decisively gave an order for one warship to break away from the formation while the rest of the ships proceeded at full speed.
Under everyone’s gaze, the detached warship turned around. A long blast of its horn echoed, seeming to carry a sense of final farewell as it gradually faded from view in the morning sun.
But before everyone had time to feel sad, they saw that half the sky ahead was shrouded in dark clouds. Beneath the clouds, it was like night, with lightning, thunder, and a torrential downpour intertwining to create monstrous waves.
The Adjutant’s expression changed. He quickly ordered everyone into the ship’s main hall to take shelter from the waves. A hundred people poured into the hall, finding sturdy objects to hold onto. However, the woman with the child couldn’t free her hands, so she turned and went into a deeper room.
Su Wenwen noticed the direction the woman went. Just as she was about to call out to her, a violent lurch threw her to the floor. Luo Xi steadied her with one hand and then enveloped them both with her mental power.
After entering the dark clouds, the ship shook even more violently, more thrilling and dangerous than any roller coaster. The tables and chairs in the lounge began to slide with the motion, making an unpleasant creaking sound.
Some people who fell were pulled up by Luo Xi. The Adjutant stood as steady as a mountain by a ship pillar. Chen Zixuan stumbled about before finally stabbing her dagger into the deck and gripping the handle tightly to steady herself.
The waves outside were nearly cresting over the top of the ship. The vessel drifted sideways, out of control. A wave crashed down onto the deck, causing the stern to lift up, eliciting a string of terrified screams.
Then came a BANG!
A zombie dolphin was slammed against a window. The glass fractured with spiderweb-like cracks. The zombie dolphin fell onto the deck and was flopping its body, moving toward them, when Luo Xi flung it off the ship with her mental power.
A bizarre cry came from the dolphin’s mouth. Its once-cute face was now nothing but ferocious terror. It circled the ship unwillingly and let out another sharp cry.
Responding to it was a towering wave that rose high above the ship. Su Wenwen could only see a shadow. She just had time to hug Luo Xi’s slender waist as the wave slammed down on the ship. The massive cruise ship instantly lost its balance and capsized, and all kinds of screams echoed in her ears.
The entire cruise ship was overturned on the seabed. Some people didn’t react in time and were thrown from the deck to the ceiling, only to have their heads smashed by tables and chairs. In the blink of an eye, the world turned upside down. The ocean enveloped the ship, and the already cracked glass windows began to leak, mixing the smell of the sea with the scent of blood.
The survivors stood up. Seeing the chaotic scene before them, their eyes filled with deep fear. Then they saw the zombie dolphin swim past the glass, its blood-red pupils scaring them so much they collapsed to the ground.
Chen Zixuan was still hanging from the ceiling of the deck. She said to Luo Xi with great effort, “Catch me.”
Seeing Luo Xi nod, she pulled out her dagger and jumped down, safely cushioned by a gentle mental force.
The Adjutant stared grimly at the zombie dolphin outside the window. The huge wave just now was clearly its doing. Water was now seeping in from all around, the glass could break at any moment, and the zombie dolphin could burst in at any time. The water pressure was immense; even as an Ability User, he couldn’t open the main doors at the moment.
Besides, opening the doors would be tantamount to letting the zombie dolphin in. Humans couldn’t fight for long in the water; at that point, all they could do was wait for death.
And just then, the people who had been killed by the tables and chairs suddenly reanimated, grabbing those nearest to them and tearing at them with their teeth. The painful screams brought everyone back to their senses, and they stumbled back in fear. Su Wenwen rushed forward with her knife and, with the fastest possible speed, severed their vertebrae.
Her attribute points shot up with a ceng ceng sound, but in the current situation, Su Wenwen couldn’t feel happy at all. The water seeping in had already reached their knees. In another quarter of an hour, everyone would probably drown here.
The Adjutant looked at Luo Xi and asked, “Can your mental power flip the cruise ship back over?”
“I’ll try.”
Putting aside how heavy and massive the cruise ship was, even if Luo Xi really did manage to flip it back with her mental power, she would likely be completely drained.
Su Wenwen felt her pocket, only then remembering that her spatial backpack was still in her room. The image of the woman carrying her child into the cabin flashed through her mind. She quickly said to the Adjutant, “Give me some crystal cores. I’ll pay you back later.”
The Adjutant handed Su Wenwen a bag full of crystal cores. Su Wenwen gave it to Luo Xi and then said, “I’ll be right back. Wait for me.”
Su Wenwen immediately ran into the corridor. Her room was in the central part of the deck, so the door was now on the ceiling. She easily leaped up with the strength of her legs, grabbed the doorknob, and kicked it open with her foot.
After grabbing the spatial backpack, Su Wenwen walked a few more steps down the corridor. She remembered the woman’s room was at the very end. Just as she reached the door, the ship began to shake again. She quickly braced herself against the wall with her hands and, using the moment the ship tilted, jumped to the doorway. But before she could open the door, she heard a roar from inside. She instantly froze.
Although the roar was hoarse, it was the woman’s voice. It was clear the child’s fate was also grim.
Su Wenwen sighed. Not daring to open the door, she was about to leave when something seemed to be knocked over in the room, followed by the sound of a child crying.
Su Wenwen quickly opened the cabin door. The child was crying on the floor, his foot having been hit by a flowerpot. The woman had a bloody head, and one of her hands was tied firmly to a railing.
Seeing this scene, Su Wenwen’s heart was slightly touched. It seemed that at the moment the ship capsized, the woman had been hit in the head by something. Knowing she wouldn’t live long, her only choice was to tie herself up.
She stepped past the zombified woman, bent down to pick up the child, and glanced back before leaving. In the end, she didn’t kill the woman, but instead locked the cabin door.
The ship was now tilted at a forty-degree angle. Su Wenwen, holding the child, had to walk diagonally. When she returned to the main hall, she handed the child to Chen Zixuan to look after.
Just as the cruise ship tilted to fifty degrees, another huge wave slammed it back into its original position. The movement caused the corpses on the floor to drift next to the living, scaring them witless.
The water level had already reached their chests. Su Wenwen saw Luo Xi frowning deeply. Her wet clothes clung to her body, and with the surrounding ruin, it made her look tragically beautiful.
Su Wenwen averted her gaze and looked at the zombie dolphin swimming back and forth outside the window. It didn’t seem to be in a hurry to break in, but as soon as the cruise ship showed any sign of righting itself, it would flick its tail, creating a powerful current that prevented the ship from flipping over.
“Adjutant, it’ll be difficult to flip the ship with just Luo Xi alone. Are there any any water-type Ability Users here?” Su Wenwen asked.
The Adjutant nodded. “There are, but their abilities are too weak. I’m afraid they can’t control the turbulent seawater.”
“They don’t need to control the seawater. They just need to briefly restrain the zombie dolphin, and Luo Xi can kill it with precision.”
Actually, Su Wenwen had wanted to have the water-type Ability Users send her out to fight the zombie dolphin. Although she couldn’t breathe in the sea, as long as her health bar wasn’t depleted, she could stay in the sea for a long time.
However, when she met Luo Xi’s sharp gaze, she guiltily changed her tune. She remembered Luo Xi had warned her to avoid revealing the full extent of her strength as much as possible, and to discuss any decisions with her.
The Adjutant ordered several water-type Ability Users to coordinate with Luo Xi. They climbed up the wall, pressing their hands against the glass to get as close to the sea as possible.
Everyone held their breath as they used their abilities to weave a net that gradually approached the zombie dolphin.
