You Actually Believe Her?
After shaking off the zombies, Su Wenwen deliberately took a detour before returning to the convoy. By then, the sun was about to set. The evening glow illuminated the heavens and the earth, and the entire city was exceptionally quiet.
Luo Xi was leaning against the front of a car. The dagger in her shoulder had already been pulled out and simply bandaged with gauze. She only looked up when she heard Chen Zixuan call out Su Wenwen’s name.
There were no wounds on Su Wenwen’s body, but her clothes were covered in blood and torn in several places.
Luo Xi knew that Su Wenwen had an extremely strong healing ability, so she could tell from her clothing alone what a fierce battle she had been through. Recalling the vacant, terrified look in Su Wenwen’s eyes when she had been held by a zombie before, Luo Xi couldn’t help but wonder if she had been just as scared and helpless when surrounded by the zombie horde just now. And to make matters worse, Luo Xi hadn’t been by Su Wenwen’s side; she had no way of knowing any of it.
The time spent waiting had been filled with so much dread and unease, like a sunless gloom filled with thunder and rain that threw her thoughts into chaos. But the moment she saw Su Wenwen return safely, the gloom dissipated, and the sky cleared after the storm.
The setting sun shone on Su Wenwen, creating a quiet and beautiful sight that made it impossible for Luo Xi to look away, leaving her momentarily stunned.
Chen Zixuan wasn’t particularly surprised to see Su Wenwen unharmed. She said, “That stab of yours wounded her bone, and there was zombie poison on the blade. Luckily, Helian Yun is a healing-type ability user and can also cure zombie poison. But even though Luo Xi’s wound has healed, it hasn’t completely recovered. It’s best if she doesn’t touch water for the next few days, and she can’t do any strenuous exercise.”
After hearing these words, Su Wenwen felt as if she had been plunged into an ice cellar; the hot sweat that had been pouring out of her instantly turned cold. How could she have forgotten? That military knife had killed zombies before. She had only wiped the blade clean with a piece of paper and had never properly disinfected it.
If Helian Yun hadn’t happened to be a healing-type ability user, wouldn’t Luo Xi have turned into one of those terrifying zombies?
At the thought of this outcome, the strength left Su Wenwen’s limbs. The moment she collapsed limply, she was supported by the quick-handed Chen Zixuan. “What’s wrong with you? Are you injured somewhere?”
Hearing the commotion, Luo Xi snapped back to her senses and quickly walked over to Su Wenwen’s side. She took her hand with her left hand and found Su Wenwen’s palm was abnormally cold. “What’s wrong?”
Su Wenwen shook her head, her eyes downcast. “Nothing, I’m just a little tired.”
“En, then go rest in the car first.” Seeing Su Wenwen’s distracted state, Luo Xi turned back and asked Chen Zixuan, “What did you say to her?”
Chen Zixuan held up her hands innocently. “Hey, I just told her about your condition. She’s probably afraid of losing you!”
Hearing this, Luo Xi followed Su Wenwen into the nanny van. Once the door was shut, the chaos outside the car and the silence inside were separated into two different worlds.
As soon as Su Wenwen got in the car, she took out cotton wadding and alcohol from her spatial backpack and began wiping the military knife. Even after killing so many zombies, the resilient blade was still very sharp. Coated in alcohol, it glinted with a cold light.
Seeing her silence, Luo Xi said softly, “Wenwen, look up at me.”
Su Wenwen obediently raised her head to look at her.
Luo Xi’s gaze seemed soft enough to melt into a pool of water. She took Su Wenwen’s hand and said, “Look, I’m perfectly fine. It’s over now, you don’t have to blame yourself.”
In truth, Su Wenwen’s fear was greater than her self-blame. If Helian Yun hadn’t been there, would everything have been irreversible?
It wasn’t until this moment that Su Wenwen realized she had long since let go of the grudge between her and Helian Yun, but she could not, under any circumstances, be without Luo Xi. The mere thought of the possibility of losing her caused fear to grow in the bottom of her heart, plunging her vision into a pitch-black darkness where no light could be seen. It was a pain more agonizing than being eaten alive by zombies.
She didn’t want to experience that again. She had to eliminate any possibility of an accident. Thinking of this, she lowered her head again and continued to wipe the military knife, meticulously, leaving not a single speck of dirt.
But her chin was suddenly lifted by Luo Xi, forcing Su Wenwen to look at her. Amidst her uneasy gaze, she was met with a kiss that was cool yet searingly hot. This kiss was so real, so clear, and the person before her was within arm’s reach, creating the illusion of having lost and then regained something.
Su Wenwen closed her eyes, parting her lips to meet the kiss, releasing all her anxiety and joy. She hooked her tongue around Luo Xi’s, their tongues tangling, but her heart still wasn’t satisfied. She was like a greedy taotie1; once her desire was unleashed, she wanted to swallow Luo Xi whole.
Luo Xi was only stunned for a moment by Su Wenwen’s initiative before responding gently. The tip of her tongue licked, slowly tracing the shape of Su Wenwen’s lips, gradually soothing her and letting her own heart sink deeper and deeper.
After just a short while of kissing, Luo Xi’s left hand started to give out, and she could only pull back slightly. Seeing Su Wenwen’s lips, reddened from being kissed, a sweetness grew in her heart, as if she had just eaten candy, filling her with delight.
【Ding: Blackening Value -5】
The system’s notification sound brought Su Wenwen back to her senses. Realizing what she had just done, her heart immediately began to beat uncontrollably. Her cheeks felt like they were on fire, her skin burning red, and her eyes darted about, not knowing where to look.
Luo Xi pursed her lips. That kiss was truly like a candied fruit, sweet but not cloying, leaving one wanting more. But she knew Su Wenwen was thin-skinned, so she retreated to her own seat, leaving some space for Su Wenwen to slowly calm her current mood.
The sun had just set, and in an instant, their vision was plunged into darkness. Driving at night required headlights and was too dangerous, so the Adjutant had everyone rest where they were. He then walked to the front of the nanny van and knocked on the window.
Luo Xi told Su Wenwen to stay in the car and rest well. She opened the door and got out, looking directly at the Adjutant. “I’m very sorry, we weren’t able to bring back the food, and the space ability user also died. However, I still have some food in my car. I’ll have Chen Zixuan distribute it to everyone in a bit!”
The Adjutant was stunned. He hadn’t expected Luo Xi to not even give him a chance to speak before taking the initiative to hand over her food. He gave her a deep look; she was clearly thin and weak, but the sharpness in her eyes made one have to admire her intelligence.
The convoy’s food had all been on the space ability user. His death meant all the food was gone. The blame for this would naturally fall on Luo Xi’s shoulders. If she still refused to hand over food to solve the urgent crisis, then as the daughter of Chief Commander Ji, her actions would naturally reflect poorly on his reputation. Luo Xi had considered all this long ago, which is why she chose to strike first to gain the upper hand.
There was a lot of food in the car. The amount each person received was enough for about three meals, and it was quite sumptuous and nutritionally complete, with meat and canned fruit. It was simply extravagant.
Luo Xi stood beside the Adjutant. With her powerful mental strength, she naturally saw the joyful expressions on everyone’s faces. She asked, “Is the Adjutant satisfied with my arrangements?”
The Adjutant was silent and did not answer.
“Actually, the space ability user wasn’t very important to you, Adjutant. Whether he lived or died, you would have gotten the food in the end, wouldn’t you?”
“What are you trying to say?”
“I’m asking you, Adjutant, to go easy on Su Wenwen. Otherwise, I won’t let this rest.” After speaking, Luo Xi returned to the car.
The Adjutant stood in place for a while. He habitually reached into his pocket but didn’t find any cigarettes. He did indeed have the idea of testing Su Wenwen, and he knew someone as smart as Luo Xi must have sensed something.
He squinted his eyes and smiled, looking up at the dark sky where a bright moon hung. In the past, when the city glittered with lights, it had overshadowed the moon’s beauty. Now, it had become the single brightest light, so beautiful it was intoxicating.
When Luo Xi returned to the car, she saw that Su Wenwen had already fallen asleep from exhaustion. Her originally cold expression instantly softened. By the light of the moon, she leaned over to steal a kiss, but just a peck on the forehead was enough to make her feel immensely satisfied.
It wasn’t until the sky was nearly bright the next day that Su Wenwen finally woke up. Noticing that Luo Xi hadn’t slept all night, she quickly pressed on her left shoulder, forcing her to sleep.
Luo Xi joked glibly, “Give me a kiss and I’ll sleep.”
Su Wenwen blushed and fled, not daring to kiss her.
She knew about the food being distributed last night. While she didn’t understand Luo Xi’s intentions, she also knew they couldn’t let a whole convoy of people starve on their way to the Sea Base. Otherwise, it would be troublesome if people started starving to death before they even arrived.
At this time, Helian Yun also got out of her car. Perhaps due to overusing her ability, she looked to be in very poor spirits. Su Wenwen hesitated for a moment, then walked over.
“Thank you for yesterday.”
Hearing Su Wenwen’s voice, Helian Yun’s heart trembled slightly. She had thought she could be indifferent, but in the end, a heart full of sour emotions still leaked out. However, the moment she turned around, she had calmed down again.
“Why are you the one thanking me?”
Su Wenwen was silent for a moment, then said slowly, “Because I like her, so I’m thanking you on her behalf.”
“You’ve only known her for such a short time and you’re already talking about ‘like’?” Helian Yun scoffed. “Do you even know her?”
“What does that matter? I knew you for so many years, but I never understood you at all,” Su Wenwen said with a self-mocking laugh.
Helian Yun’s face turned deathly pale. She then clenched her fists, her lips moved, and she said somewhat weakly, “Yes, I admit I deceived you. But did you know that to make you feel heartache, she deliberately stopped my final treatment, which is what caused my ability to fall into disarray?”
Su Wenwen was stunned.
Seeing her reaction, Helian Yun added, “It seems you didn’t know. After being with her for several years, I know her too well. She’s the type of person who will do anything to achieve her goals; she and I are goods of the same stripe2.”
“Su Wenwen, you’re too simple. She is a deep schemer. You two are not suitable for each other.”
How could that be? She didn’t believe Luo Xi was that kind of person. Just last night, she had been so gentle and patient, comforting her. How could she have deliberately gotten injured just to make her worry so much?
Su Wenwen said with a troubled heart, “You don’t need to say these things to drive a wedge between us. I’m telling you this because I hope things between you and me end here. From now on, the bridge will be the bridge, and the road will be the road3. You don’t need to bother trying to get close to Luo Xi, either. She likes me.”
Helian Yun smiled, and only she knew how much bitterness was in that smile. She said, “Why would I need to bother? I saved her life, she owes me a favor. It’s not a debt that can be repaid so easily.”
“What do you want?”
Helian Yun was taken aback by Su Wenwen’s cold attitude. She remembered how Su Wenwen used to never show her a cold face, always waiting quietly, never making a fuss, tranquil and serene, yet she had cast her aside like a pair of worn-out shoes4. She hadn’t understood her value then. Now she understood, but they were already strangers.
A faint, thread-like stinging pain seemed to pass through her heart, almost imperceptible, giving Helian Yun the illusion of regret.
“I… I don’t know either.” Agitated, Helian Yun avoided looking at Su Wenwen, turning her head away to say, “This is between her and me, it has nothing to do with you. Anyway, I’ve said my piece. Whether you believe it or not is up to you.”
Su Wenwen watched Helian Yun’s flustered, retreating back, lost in thought.
