I Pursued My Scummy Ex’s White Moonlight – Chapter 47

Kissing

The zombies couldn’t break through the door. After a while, they quieted down, and the iron door no longer made that terrifying noise. Despite this, Su Wenwen kept her hand pressed against it, not daring to be the slightest bit careless.

“And you still say you’re an ordinary person? I wouldn’t believe it even if you beat me to death.” Chen Zixuan stared at the iron door, her heart pounding with fear. She truly hadn’t expected Su Wenwen to hold back so many zombies all by herself. When she had first run up to the rooftop and saw no escape route, she had thought she was doomed.

Su Wenwen smiled but offered no explanation.

Luo Xi walked to the railing at the edge of the rooftop and looked down. The once-empty streets were now teeming with zombies, so bustling it was unnerving.

On the rooftops of the other tall buildings, scattered zombies wandered about aimlessly. Some unlucky ones walked to the edge, and with a slip of the foot, fell straight down, stiff as a board.

There were also messages for help left by survivors on the rooftop. It seemed many people had been trapped. As long as one person among them turned, it would lead to everyone’s death. It was just unknown if there were any ability users among them; if there were, they would be very difficult to deal with once they turned into zombies.

While Luo Xi was lost in thought, she suddenly felt a chill run up her back. Her gaze swept across the surroundings. On a building of similar height to their side, a zombie was standing in front of one of the windows, staring over here without blinking. Then, its figure slowly vanished, its whereabouts unknown.

Luo Xi frowned. “We need to leave, quickly.”

The space ability user was panting, and with the fear in his heart, his speech was a bit incoherent. “How… how do we leave? The stairwell is full of zombies.”

The stairwell was full of zombies; there was no way they could go that way. Luo Xi pondered for a moment, then pointed to the building where she had just seen the zombie. “Jump over. We’ll go down from that building.”

The space ability user was instantly dumbfounded. The two buildings were at least ten meters apart; there was no way he could jump that far. The same went for Chen Zixuan. The two of them glanced down, and though it was a hot day, the wind felt so cold it made them tremble.

“I’m afraid of heights.”

“My legs are weak.”

Even with an ability, not just anyone could cross a distance of ten meters. The way Chen Zixuan looked at Luo Xi right now was as if she were looking at a deity; her heart was filled with nothing but admiration and reverence.

“We’re out of time. I just saw a zombie that gave me a great sense of pressure. I don’t know where it went, but we must leave as soon as possible.” Luo Xi looked back at Su Wenwen. “Wenwen, you jump first.”

Su Wenwen understood Luo Xi’s meaning. She wanted her to take the lead and set an example for Chen Zixuan. Without much hesitation, she let go of the door and ran towards the other building. With a light push from her ankles, her entire body soared into the air, as light as a feather. Even her landing barely made a sound.

Chen Zixuan’s eyes widened, her mind screaming about what a pair of freaks they were. But even if Su Wenwen had jumped over with ease, it didn’t prove that she could do it too. In fact, her legs felt even weaker.

“Use your ability to jump over,” Luo Xi said, looking at Chen Zixuan with a gentle expression. “Don’t worry. Even if you fail, I can use my ability to catch you.”

With those words, Chen Zixuan’s legs didn’t seem quite so weak anymore. She took a deep breath, clenched her fists, and covered her legs with her ability. Then, she ran forward rapidly. Seeing the edge of the balcony getting closer and closer, she steeled her heart and leaped with all her might.

But as her body was suspended in mid-air, she couldn’t help but look down. From a height of over twenty stories, the zombies below looked as small as sesame seeds. Her arms and legs flailed, unable to grasp anything solid. Her body was weightless and difficult to stabilize. She felt as if she would plummet and be smashed into a pulp at any second.

Fear assaulted her heart. Chen Zixuan’s whole body tensed, and her breath hitched. She watched helplessly as she began to fall straight down after jumping only four meters. Before she could even cry out in alarm, she was suddenly bound by something that forcefully pulled her up and tossed her onto a balcony below the rooftop.

“I’m saved?” Chen Zixuan looked back in disbelief, only to see Luo Xi’s nimble figure leap from the edge of the rooftop. As if she were spacewalking, she rose and descended slowly, defying the laws of gravity in a way that was magically incomprehensible.

The space ability user was still on the other side. He stood in place, showing no sign of jumping. Su Wenwen called out to him twice, but he didn’t react. It wasn’t until the iron door was once again battered by the zombies in the stairwell that he finally snapped back to his senses.

“No, I can’t jump…” He was drenched in sweat, his pupils dilated as he backed away continuously. “I’m afraid of heights. I can’t make the jump.”

Luo Xi’s eyes turned cold. Just as she was about to use her ability to forcibly drag the man over, the iron door was smashed open by the zombies from the stairwell. The man, having coincidentally retreated to that very spot, was pounced upon by the hungry zombies. His shrill screams were drowned out by the zombies’ cries, like a stone tossed into a lake, creating ripples that quickly fell silent.

“Let’s go. He’ll turn soon. We’ll meet up with Chen Zixuan first,” Luo Xi said, pulling Su Wenwen’s hand and leaving without any hesitation.

The stairwell of this building was quiet. The two of them made their way down cautiously. Chen Zixuan was in the rightmost room on the floor below, but there was still a suspected ability-using zombie in this building, so neither of them dared to lower their guard.

Their palms were clasped tightly, unknowingly growing sweaty. Glued together, they showed no sign of letting go, as if trying to lock the other person firmly by their side, terrified of losing them to some accident.

Luo Xi suddenly stopped, signaling for Su Wenwen to be quiet. Her spiritual power1 probed outwards, passing through the door to see Chen Zixuan. But just outside the door was the zombie she had seen earlier.

The zombie was small and thin. Its clothes, unwashed for months, were stained black and yellow. Its skin was so dry it was devoid of any moisture, and its twisted face was enough to make one’s legs go weak with just a single look.

It stood motionless at the doorway.

Originally in the room waiting, Chen Zixuan suddenly clutched her neck and collapsed to the floor. Her pupils were unfocused as she clawed desperately at herself. Though her face was flushed red from the pressure and she looked as if she would suffocate at any moment, she showed no sign of letting go.

Seeing this, Luo Xi no longer hesitated, flipping over the railing and leaping down. Su Wenwen followed closely behind her.

The zombie sensed something and turned to look at the two of them. Its eyes were slightly different from other zombies; ripples flowed within its red pupils.

With just one glance, Su Wenwen’s expression became dazed. In that brief moment of distraction, she found herself in a place that was both strange and familiar. This was the place where she and Helian Yun had once taken shelter. The floor was piled with trash, with only a small bed that was barely big enough for one person to sleep on. Su Wenwen, of course, was not qualified to sleep on the small bed; she could only lay out a quilt and make a bed on the floor.

As for the bed, it was naturally reserved for Helian Yun, who was currently standing by the window. Su Wenwen looked at that thin back and her heart jolted, not understanding how she had returned to her past life.

Before she could figure it out, Helian Yun seemed to see something and rushed out the door without a second thought. Su Wenwen looked out the window and saw Luo Xi’s figure. Her body reacted before her muddled mind could, and she hurriedly followed after Helian Yun.

The surrounding zombies discovered them and were closing in. Without hesitation, Su Wenwen drew her military knife and brandished it. Her expression was icy, her attacks fast and ruthless, with no superfluous movements, every stab aimed at a zombie’s head.

One after another, zombies fell around her, her clean hands becoming covered in filth, the blade of her knife growing dull. But as soon as one wave of zombies was killed, another would come. She just swung her arms numbly, tirelessly, like an emotionless machine, until a glimpse from the corner of her eye caught Helian Yun grabbing Luo Xi and fleeing alone. Her indifferent expression instantly cracked.

How could they abandon her again and again? Even Luo Xi didn’t look back at her once. She was clearly using her own life to hold back the zombies; couldn’t that earn her even a single glance back?

She was no great saint, incapable of selfless devotion. In an instant, her chest was filled with anger and sorrow. She shouted with a hoarse voice, “Helian Yun, you’re courting death2!”

In the blink of an eye, Su Wenwen caught up to Helian Yun. She had only intended to pull Luo Xi over, but Helian Yun chose that moment to attack, slashing at her with a military knife of her own.

Su Wenwen sidestepped to avoid it, only to see the blade in Helian Yun’s hand turn and stab toward Luo Xi. This caused the last of her sanity to collapse. She quickly reached out and gripped the blade of Helian Yun’s knife, ignoring the pain and blood on her hand as she attacked Helian Yun like a madwoman.

From what began with her leaving mercy under her hand3, to a life-and-death struggle between them, it grew more and more intense, until she herself was covered in cuts. But even so, Su Wenwen had no intention of backing down, instead using the fight to vent the myriad complex emotions in her heart.

Disappointment in Helian Yun, timidity regarding her feelings for Luo Xi, and fear of being abandoned—the three intertwined, leaving her at a complete loss.

Gradually, Su Wenwen fell to a disadvantage. Helian Yun’s skills were clearly better than hers; both her reflexes and her speed surprised Su Wenwen. She kept feeling that something was not right, and also felt that Helian Yun was leaving mercy under her hand, not truly trying to kill her.

At this thought, her reason gradually returned. But in less than a moment, Su Wenwen saw Helian Yun raise her lips in a strange smile. Before she could react, she saw Helian Yun suddenly turn and attack Luo Xi.

Su Wenwen’s mind buzzed. She used all her strength to run over, but she was still a step too late. She could only watch as the sharp knife sliced through the soft skin of Luo Xi’s throat. The dripping blood dyed Su Wenwen’s vision red, like ten thousand sharp thorns stabbing her heart over and over, so painful she could hardly breathe.

At the same time, the knife in her hand stabbed into Helian Yun’s shoulder. But Helian Yun neither retreated nor dodged. Instead, she hugged Su Wenwen tightly, and under her agonized gaze, lowered her head and kissed her lips, which had been bitten open at some unknown point.

Her mind went completely blank.

A fragrant scent filled her mouth—a familiar cool fragrance, like snowflakes gradually extinguishing her burning rage. Her blurry vision slowly cleared. Looking at Luo Xi right before her eyes and the wet softness her tongue was touching, the anger in her heart was swept away, replaced by shyness and a sense of being at a loss.

Luo Xi raised her left hand, pressing the back of Su Wenwen’s head to deepen the kiss. Her tongue drove straight in, hooking around her tongue, licking and sucking for a moment, before pulling back slightly to look at the rosy blush at the corners of Su Wenwen’s eyes, which was like a blooming rose that made one unable to resist lowering their head again to pluck it by capturing the corner of her lips.

Their breaths intertwined, creating an ambiguous atmosphere.

At this very moment, Chen Zixuan opened the door. She froze when she saw the two kissing, then looked down at the dead zombie and said with a smile, “If you two are going to be intimate, could you please trouble yourselves to find a better time and place?”

Hearing this, Su Wenwen quickly pushed Luo Xi away, only to hear Luo Xi let out a muffled groan. Only then did she realize that the military knife in her hand had actually stabbed into Luo Xi’s shoulder.

The heat in her heart faded, and a chill rose up her back. She frantically hugged the other woman, repeating “I’m sorry” over and over. The tip of her nose tingled, and tears burst from her eyes.
