I Pursued My Scummy Ex’s White Moonlight – Chapter 29

I’ll Tell You My Little Secret

Even before getting out of the car, Luo Xi saw Su Wenwen send that picture of them holding hands back to Helian Yun. She knew Su Wenwen was trying to provoke Helian Yun, but the more she did so, the more it proved she hadn’t truly let go!

At that thought, her heart felt as if it were shrouded by a dark cloud. For the first time, she impulsively urged Su Wenwen to delete all of Helian Yun’s contact information. Although the other woman had agreed, and she should have been satisfied, the sight of Su Wenwen’s tightly furrowed brow quickly made her realize the consequences of her actions would be off-putting.

After all, Luo Xi didn’t even know if she could be considered Su Wenwen’s friend, so what right did she have to interfere in her life?

Her gaze unconsciously fell on Su Wenwen’s phone. At the very last second, she stopped her, saying something that even she herself found cringey and sour. Only Su Wenwen seemed completely oblivious.

“Su Wenwen, am I your friend?”

Su Wenwen blinked. “Be more confident. We’re practically life-and-death companions.”

Those words eased the awkward atmosphere. Luo Xi didn’t even notice the corners of her own mouth turning up; she only knew that she was growing to like Su Wenwen more and more.

“Then, can you tell your life-and-death companion your little secrets?” Luo Xi added, “This isn’t an order, it’s a request.”

That’s right. We’re already life-and-death companions, what secrets can’t be shared? Besides, is the villain really someone who seems untrustworthy?

On the contrary, Su Wenwen trusted the villain a great deal.

From the very first moment she saw the villain at school, Su Wenwen felt that she was a person who was cold on the outside but gentle on the inside. At the very least, not many people could keep a cheap thermos looking as pristine as new.

Su Wenwen looked at the villain’s pair of clear eyes, which held a faint plea. The beauty mark at the corner of her eye was like a teardrop, stirring a sense of pity. How could she possibly refuse the villain’s friendly overtures again and again?

She put down her backpack and opened it. “First secret: this backpack has a spatial space. It can expand, but it has its limits.”

Luo Xi was pleasantly surprised. She was still processing it when she saw the zipper open to reveal a whole other world inside. The supplies were very well-organized, and even the thermos she had brought from her house was in there.

Aside from this little secret, the other one was that Su Wenwen had died once before. After hearing her story, Luo Xi’s surprise gave way to nothing but heartache. She couldn’t understand Helian Yun’s judgment at all, treating such a good person as a mere backup.

Now, however, Luo Xi sort of understood why Su Wenwen didn’t delete Helian Yun’s contact information. Besides wanting revenge, perhaps what she wanted more was to hear a sincere “I’m sorry” from Helian Yun.

Even her method of revenge was so gentle. If she herself had been hurt like that by someone she liked, she would have had that person drawn and quartered1.

“So, was that woman… me?”

“Of course not.”

Here, Su Wenwen told a small, white lie. After all, the villain had no idea what the situation was back then. To have someone inexplicably die because of her… the thought alone felt terribly unfair.

Carrying secrets is truly exhausting; you have to be careful with everything you do. After saying all this, Su Wenwen felt a great weight lift from her heart. “Also, I’m not an ability user, but I can improve my abilities through other means. Killing zombies is one of them.”

“No wonder you insist on killing zombies yourself.”

“Mhm. By killing zombies with my own hands, my abilities can improve. As long as I’m still breathing, I don’t have to worry about being infected. I’ve pretty much told you all my secrets. You have to keep them safe. I’d rather not be captured for experiments.”

“Okay, I absolutely won’t tell anyone. This is our little secret now,” Luo Xi said with a gentle smile, her tender eyes seeming to caress one’s heart.

After she finished speaking, the system informed her that the villain’s affection had skyrocketed, her blackening value had dropped by twelve consecutive points, and a new main mission had been triggered.

【Good friends should exchange secrets: Inquire about the villain’s worries (This mission is not timed, but a new main mission will not be assigned until it is completed)】

Huh?

The villain has worries?

Su Wenwen glanced at the smile on the villain’s face. No matter how she looked at it, she didn’t seem like someone who had anything troubling her. She decided to probe. “I’ve told you all my secrets. If you have any little secrets, you have to tell me too. Otherwise, it’s not fair.”

“I…” Luo Xi paused.

Just then, the blood finished draining from the director’s body. He stood up at some point, his bare torso quickly covered in blood-red, web-like veins, his skin ashen like white paint. Fortunately, he had just turned. Before his body’s functions could fully react, Su Wenwen finished him with a single slash.

One hundred and seven attribute points, plus what she had saved before, brought her to a total of two hundred and ten. Su Wenwen had to consider where to allocate them.

She rarely used her mental power, as using it consumed twice as much stamina. Now that her stamina was higher, she could add some points to her mental power. Perhaps it could help her detect something at a critical moment.

With that in mind, Su Wenwen added twenty points to mental power and twenty points to each of her other abilities.

Luo Xi still couldn’t control her mental power very well, but she could keenly sense that the aura around Su Wenwen had grown stronger again. She smiled. “Why don’t we stay here for a few more days?”

“Why?” Calculating the time, Su Wenwen’s parents could probably hold out for another month. Time was still plentiful, so staying here for a few days wasn’t a big problem.

“To give you more time to kill zombies.”

As the villain spoke, the tips of her ears turned a little red. Su Wenwen didn’t ask any more questions and simply agreed. After all, she had to listen to the villain today. If she said they’d stay a few days, they’d stay a few days.

After dealing with the corpse, Su Wenwen had originally intended to rest in the room. However, the room was a mess and had many unknown stains. Recalling the numb expressions of those women, she instantly understood what they were.

She chose to make a bed on the living room floor. Thankfully, she had bought a sleeping bag earlier, which came in handy now. But the villain was a clean freak and naturally refused to sleep in the room, so today, they would have to share one sleeping bag.

【A quiet night, two people alone. Perfect for a heart-to-heart talk.】

Su Wenwen knew the system was reminding her to do the mission. Just as she was about to speak, she heard the villain say, “You sleep first. I’ll take watch.”

Su Wenwen couldn’t object. She agreed and lay down on the sleeping bag, closing her eyes to sleep. She told the system to wake her up in the second half of the night, because if the villain saw her sleeping soundly, she wouldn’t wake her.

Sure enough, in the latter half of the night, Su Wenwen was awakened by the system’s alert tone. She rubbed her tired eyes, touched her damp forehead, and glanced at her status panel, which showed she was in top condition. She got up and looked around, only to see the villain’s back by the window, silhouetted against the moonlight.

Su Wenwen stared, slightly stunned.

The scene before her was tranquil and serene. The tall, slender figure had a beautiful outline, plated with a silver edge by the light. She subconsciously raised her phone and captured this beautiful moment.

“Why not sleep a little longer?”

“No need, I’ve had enough sleep. You go rest. I’ll need your support tomorrow when I’m killing zombies.”

“Okay.”

Switching places with the villain, Su Wenwen walked to the window and dutifully stood watch.

【Host, hurry up and do the mission!】

Of course I’ll do the mission. But the main missions are all a bit bizarre; they require the right time, place, and people. If only they were like the side missions, which have clear rescue objectives. The rewards aren’t any worse than the main missions, either.

Sigh, I’ll take it slow. No need to rush.

Living in a small village with only a dozen households was nice. She didn’t sense any zombies nearby, but she could hear plenty of cicadas. Su Wenwen closed her eyes and took in her surroundings: the shasha sound of rustling leaves, and a small snake slithering through the woods. Due to the high temperature, there were basically no mosquitoes, making the woods much more pleasant.

The small snake slithered to a tree and was about to climb it when a pitch-black field mouse suddenly bit its tail. The snake writhed in pain, coiling its body around the mouse. The mouse’s fur was sticky and its eyes were crimson. Even as the snake squeezed its body flat, it refused to let go.

Su Wenwen had almost forgotten that rodents were also mammals and could be infected just the same. That field mouse was clearly a zombie mouse. The snake’s tail was bitten off. It opened its mouth to retaliate, clamping down on the mouse. Luckily for the snake, it bit the zombie mouse’s head. Once the zombie mouse stopped resisting, the snake swallowed it whole.

The snake seemed to have won, but the zombie mouse was now highly toxic. By eating it, even if the snake didn’t mutate, it wouldn’t live for long.

Su Wenwen quickly used her mental power to search every corner of the house, checking for any suspicious movements. To her relief, she didn’t hear the sound of any mice and sighed softly.

The next morning, as the sky was just beginning to brighten, Su Wenwen rubbed her forehead. She turned to open her spatial backpack, originally intending to grab a bottle of water, but a glance from the corner of her eye caught the villain curled up, seemingly sleeping restlessly. She subconsciously walked over to check on her.

Seeing the villain’s brow constantly furrowed, Su Wenwen gently shook her awake. “Are you having a nightmare?”

Luo Xi shook her head. She pushed a strand of hair behind her ear and said bashfully, “My ‘thing’ is pretty regular. I counted the days, and it’s supposed to be today, so I’m a little uncomfortable.”

“If your auntie is here, just say so. What’s there to be embarrassed about?” Su Wenwen smiled. So the zombie-killing excuse was just a cover. She’s so cute.

Thankfully, the villain didn’t have to worry about painful cramps, she just felt a bit listless and lacked the energy to do anything. Su Wenwen took on the responsibility of caring for her.

Her spatial backpack still had a mild-flavored self-heating hotpot, which was perfect to heat up for the villain. Su Wenwen herself just had some dry instant noodles and mineral water. She also told Luo Xi about the zombie mouse she had discovered last night.

“Based on what you’re saying, the depths of the forest are actually more dangerous.”

“Right. So our route should avoid the forest, but also not get too close to the city center.”

After their meal, Su Wenwen had originally planned to go out and kill zombies to level up on her own, but the villain was a strong-willed person and insisted on coming along. Given that the 24-hour maid mission was still active, Su Wenwen could only agree.

There weren’t many zombie animals nearby. Su Wenwen specifically chose some fast but weak zombie field mice to practice on, which also gave the villain a chance to train her mental power.

However, unlike Su Wenwen, the villain was not immune to infection. Even as an ability user, if she was bitten by a zombie, she would turn into one over time. If the villain became a zombie, she would probably be the strongest psychic zombie in existence, and this world would be doomed to another apocalypse.

Therefore, Su Wenwen warned her a thousand times, telling the villain to pay attention to her surroundings, not get bitten, and not take any risks. All the dangerous, charging-ahead work should be left to her.
