Delete Her
When the door opened, Su Wenwen caught a glimpse of a chaotic and nauseating scene inside. Several women were huddled in a corner, and a shirtless man walked out, closing the door behind him.
Su Wenwen recognized this man. He was the Chief Physician who had tried to grab her steering wheel on the bus.
To think that not only was this kind of person still alive, but he even had so many followers. The female zombie she had encountered earlier was probably connected to him as well.
The Chief Physician had a scholarly appearance, wearing gold-rimmed glasses. He was getting on in years, so the hair on his head was sparse. He pointed at Su Wenwen and said, “Aren’t you that girl from the bus? I remember you had a child with you. Why isn’t she with you now? Don’t tell me she died?”
Su Wenwen’s gaze fell on his ill-intentioned face. Except for the man who had spoken up for them earlier, the stares from the others were all more or less unsettling. In their eyes, she and the villain were lambs to the slaughter. Barring any surprises, their fate would be a life worse than death.
But as it happened, they were that surprise.
She just didn’t know what the man’s ability was yet. When she asked the System, it only replied that she should explore matters concerning non-plot-related personnel on her own. That was why she hadn’t made a move immediately.
“Honestly, it’s tough for two girls like you to survive with a child. It’s better that she’s gone. Just follow me from now on. As long as I have a bite to eat, you’ll definitely get your share.” The Chief Physician wore a friendly smile, but his heart was blooming with joy.
Su Wenwen smiled back. “And what if we say no?”
“You can try.”
Su Wenwen watched as the Chief Physician narrowed his eyes and flicked his finger. A sharp pain suddenly pierced her neck. When she reached up to touch it, she found it was bleeding.
【100 points of damage received: 85 HP lost (Attack was weakened by 15% due to the Host’s Low-Grade Protective Gear)】
She frowned. She had been hit before she could even react. Although the damage was negligible, his attack was clearly just a warning. If he got serious, wouldn’t she die without even knowing how?
“So, how about it? Will you follow me?” The smile on the Chief Physician’s face was a bit stiff. The force he had just used should have made her bleed more than that. Did I go too easy on her?
The Chief Physician quickly gave the others a meaningful look, and they surrounded the two of them. The kind-hearted man from before stepped forward, shielding them as he pleaded on their behalf.
How could the Chief Physician possibly listen to him? He flicked his fingers in mid-air twice more. Several slits were torn into the man’s clothes, and blood dripped from the wounds. The man winced in pain but continued to plead for them.
“They helped me. I can’t just watch them die.”
“Xu Hui1, are you looking to die?” The Chief Physician’s eyes turned cold, a murderous intent slowly rising. He sneered, “Be a good boy and listen to me, and you’ll be well-rewarded in the future.”
Xu Hui gritted his teeth and said, “I don’t want it! I should have gotten off the bus with them back then. With them, I can see hope. But following you, all I feel is oppression and fear. I can’t see any hope at all. I’m going crazy! I don’t want to become a monster!”
“Oh? So you’re calling me a monster?” The Chief Physician slapped Xu Hui across the face and stomped him under his foot, letting out a derisive laugh. “Too bad for you, this is the apocalypse, an era where the strong rule. A normal person like you wants to be a hero?”
Watching Xu Hui’s useless struggles, the smile on the Chief Physician’s face deepened. He had been lucky enough to gain an ability. From now on, he could do whatever he wanted.
But he failed to notice the people around him quietly backing away until a cold piece of metal was pressed against his forehead. Only then did he look up, his pupils shrinking in the next instant.
He wasn’t entirely ignorant. The moment he saw the handgun, his expression changed slightly. “A military handgun? That can’t be a toy, can it?”
He stared at the dark muzzle, his heart pounding. He felt that although these two women were attractive, they were different from the others he had met. They looked delicate on the outside, but they exuded a powerful aura that made them seem difficult to provoke.
Just as he was about to say something conciliatory to ease the tension, the woman proved to be a ruthless character. With the safety off, a bullet shot out of the chamber and went straight into his thigh. The shrapnel was still scorching hot as it entered his soft tissue, creating the illusion that his blood was being boiled away.
“Ah—!” He cried out in pain and staggered back, collapsing to the ground.
The others were dumbfounded. Such a powerful ability user couldn’t even block a single bullet. As ordinary people, they stood even less of a chance.
For a moment, they just stood there, watching the blood gush from the Chief Physician’s thigh, not knowing what to do. It was a normal reaction, of course. After all, they were just ordinary citizens before the apocalypse and had never been trained for this.
“Boss, are you alright?” The man with the dagger was the first to react. He rushed over to the fallen Chief Physician and pressed his hands against the wound.
“Do I look like I’m alright?” The Chief Physician glanced at the wound on his leg. Fortunately, the main artery wasn’t hit. He roared, “Go and f#cking kill them!”
The man glanced at the cold handgun and didn’t move. The others did the same. Seeing this, the Chief Physician’s pale face turned the color of pig’s liver. Just as he was about to move his hand, another gunshot rang out, accurately blowing off one of his fingers. The Chief Physician shrieked, his blood-curdling screams terrifying everyone into stillness.
“We’re a search and rescue team.”
Luo Xi’s eyes were cold. She held the gun with her back straight. Seeing this, the dagger-wielding man’s eyes darted around, and he asked if they were a rescue team sent by the military. Luo Xi merely glanced at him without answering.
The man began to speculate wildly, eventually convincing himself. He declared that he would accept the organization’s reform and strive to become a new man.
Su Wenwen watched from the side, wanting to laugh.
According to the book’s setting, all systems of order would collapse in the middle stages, replaced by a squad-based system. This meant there would be no military and no government; capable people would form their own squads to accept missions. Only in the later stages, after bases were established, would a new order be created. However, the world was destroyed before the bases could even be completed.
But only Su Wenwen knew this. When others heard “search and rescue,” they naturally thought of the government. The villain was probably using the government’s name to suppress these restless, evil men.
“Our main mission this time is to find ability users,” the villain said simply. The man, having concocted who knows what in his head, immediately raised his hand. “I’m an ability user! My ability is detection, but my range is only thirty meters.”
No wonder she and the villain had been caught so quickly. It was another ability user, and one with a questionable character at that.
“Thirty meters is enough. If you can bring them all back to the small base safely, my friend will give you an unexpected surprise.”
The villain pointed to the women in the room. She spoke with great seriousness, as if a real reward was truly waiting for the man. Upon hearing this, the man immediately agreed.
He quickly called for the others to prepare to leave. But while he was busy making arrangements, the villain had, at some point, called Xu Hui aside and given him the gun.
“Do you know how to use a gun?”
Xu Hui nodded. “I was a conscript.”
All of this was done in secret, but Su Wenwen, with her heightened five senses, naturally noticed the villain’s small movements. The gun was given to Xu Hui because his life-risking actions earlier had won the villain’s favor. Giving him the gun was a way to have him supervise the other man. If that man still harbored any ill intentions, Xu Hui was to break his legs.
Although the man was an ability user, his power was only for detection. His physical fitness was the same as an ordinary person’s. Facing Xu Hui, who now had a gun, the man could only behave himself.
As for why they had the man escort the survivors, it was a move born of necessity. The villain and Su Wenwen couldn’t go back with them right now, so they could only entice him with a reward. What fate would befall these people when they met the righteous and evil-hating Wang Kelin was anyone’s guess.
When the women came out of the room, their eyes were lifeless. Su Wenwen pursed her lips and helped them onto the nanny van, instructing them to act obedient on the way. Once they reached the camp, they had to tell a woman named Wang Kelin what they had been through.
They didn’t respond, sitting there like walking corpses. Su Wenwen didn’t know how to comfort them. After all, in the apocalypse, things like this were bound to happen more than once. It was just that today, she and the villain happened to encounter it.
Everyone had left except for the Chief Physician.
Although his main artery wasn’t hit, he would die sooner or later as time passed and turn into a zombie. Su Wenwen asked the villain, “How should we deal with him?”
“No rush. Let’s take care of your wound first.”
Su Wenwen subconsciously touched her neck. It didn’t hurt anymore, and there wasn’t much blood. But today, the villain was the master, and she was the maid, so she could only obey.
Luo Xi found a Band-Aid, tore it open, and carefully placed it on Su Wenwen’s neck. While doing this, her fingertips inevitably brushed against the delicate skin. What was once snow-white was instantly dyed with a rosy blush, which climbed all the way to her earlobe before stopping.
Luo Xi’s lips curved up slightly, but she didn’t point it out. Otherwise, with Su Wenwen’s temperament, she would probably want to find a hole to crawl into. “Wait for him to turn into a zombie, then you can kill him.”
Su Wenwen blinked. “Me?”
“En…” Luo Xi glanced at Su Wenwen’s earlobe and, unable to resist, reached out to pinch it. “You said you wanted to kill a zombie with your own hands, so naturally, you’ll be the one to do it.”
Su Wenwen’s mind went blank. The sensation from her sensitive earlobe spread through her entire body, like a pleasant electric shock. She wanted to turn her head to avoid it, but when the villain said, “Don’t move,” she felt justified in staying still.
【Ding: Blackening Value -4】
“As the one with the master’s privilege today, shouldn’t I think carefully about what I want you to do?” Luo Xi said suddenly.
“What do you want me to do?”
“Delete Helian Yun’s contact information.”
Su Wenwen subconsciously clenched her fists. She forced a smile and said, “Okay,” then took out her phone. As she swiped the screen, her fingertip was just about to tap the delete button when the villain unexpectedly stopped her.
“You clearly don’t want to. Why are you trying to please me?” Luo Xi’s red lips pressed into a thin line. “Forget it. Don’t delete it. Just pretend I never said anything.”
