I Pursued My Scummy Ex’s White Moonlight – Chapter 20

Special abilities

Su Wenwen received the System mission notification and was quite bewildered herself, not knowing how she had completed the mission. The System indicated it didn’t know either, only suggesting that a common personality flaw of a villain is being moody and unpredictable, making them difficult to understand.

However, completing the mission was a good thing.

By the next day, the villain’s and Sisi’s body temperatures began to drop. Sisi woke up first. Having slept for quite a long time, the child was still dazed upon waking.

With a round face, short arms, and short legs, she sat on the bed rubbing her eyes. Her small mouth opened wide, yawning continuously, looking utterly adorable.

“Sisi, do you feel any changes in your body?”

Sisi blinked. She thought she had only slept for one night and didn’t quite understand what Su Wenwen meant, so she tilted her head and looked at her.

Su Wenwen simply lifted Sisi off the bed, squatted down, and asked, “Do you feel like you’ve gotten stronger, or your eyesight has improved, or your hearing has become sharper?”

Sisi understood Su Wenwen’s meaning even less. She thought Su Wenwen found her a burden, unable to help with anything. She shook her head uneasily and then said, “Wenwen-jiejie, did I do something wrong?”

Su Wenwen helplessly patted Sisi’s head, knowing Sisi was a bit sensitive and had misunderstood her. She said, “No, you didn’t. Go wash your face first and eat something.”

Sisi nodded and obediently went to the bathroom to wash up by herself. She moved a small stool, and standing on it, she could just reach the sink. She filled her cup with water and squeezed toothpaste onto her brush.

The wind outside had weakened considerably, but the rain showed no signs of abating.

The glass was covered in crystal-clear water droplets. Sisi brushed her teeth while turning her head to look out the window. Children’s thoughts are often wildly imaginative1; in her eyes, the irregular water droplets could form all sorts of pictures.

Then they converged, forming streams of water.

Very rhythmically, in her eyes, they transformed into a stooped old man holding a little girl’s hand. Sisi’s eyes widened, and without even rinsing her mouth, she ran out to call Su Wenwen.

“Wenwen-jiejie, there’s a picture on the window!”

Su Wenwen didn’t understand. She followed Sisi into the bathroom. There was nothing outside the window but the torrential rain. The water on the streets had already submerged more than half of the shops. Fortunately, the storm had weakened, and it was estimated that the rain would stop soon.

“Hey, where’s the picture?”

Su Wenwen squatted down and asked Sisi what she had seen. Sisi described it in detail: just now, while brushing her teeth, she was thinking about her grandfather taking her to the park, and the rainwater on the glass had drawn that scene.

“Wenwen-jiejie, what I said is true.”

“Mm, jiejie believes you.”

It seemed Sisi was a water-type special ability user. However, the child was still young, so Su Wenwen decided to let her discover her ability slowly. She instructed Sisi not to tell anyone about the scene she had just witnessed.

Sisi was very obedient and nodded in agreement.

Su Wenwen heated milk and bread for Sisi. After the little one had eaten her fill, Su Wenwen handed her a glass of water and had her practice her special ability.

“Wenwen-jiejie, what’s a special ability?”

“A special ability is like magic, your very own magic.”

This explanation was the easiest for a child to understand. Sisi then started practicing by herself in the living room, while Su Wenwen returned to the room to take care of the villain.

The villain’s temperature had now basically stabilized at forty degrees. Su Wenwen was worried that not eating for a long time would harm her body. She tried calling out to her several times but couldn’t wake her up. So, she first went to the kitchen to heat up some congee, so the villain could eat it as soon as she woke up.

Then, she opened her System panel.

Currently, attribute points could go up to one hundred, but she only had thirty-four attribute points. Su Wenwen didn’t know which ones to allocate. Moreover, the items given by the System were life-saving and very useful, so she couldn’t use up all her attribute points at once; she had to save some.

Usually, when playing games, each character has a specialty. Higher strength allows one to kill more zombies and gain attribute points. So, Su Wenwen prioritized adding ten points to Strength, followed by ten points to Stamina.

With strength and stamina, at least she wouldn’t die easily.

Finally, she also added ten points to Endurance.

She left four attribute points in reserve.

Su Wenwen tested her strength. She could carry two fifty-jin2 bags of rice without feeling tired. Then she went to lift the refrigerator and the sofa. Sisi sat to one side watching; Su Wenwen didn’t intend to hide it from her.

After confirming the limits of her strength, Su Wenwen returned to the room to stay with the villain. It wasn’t until nightfall that the rain finally subsided a little.

She reheated the congee.

When Luo Xi woke up, she only felt weak all over, unable to pinpoint what was uncomfortable. She sat on the bed for a good while, collecting herself, before remembering how she had woken up in the bathtub during the day, feeling lost and distraught when she couldn’t see Su Wenwen.

She pressed her hand to her forehead.

It was a bit hard to believe.

However…

More of Luo Xi’s memories were of Su Wenwen bustling about for her, and that incomprehensible sentence she had heard.

The great villain, is she talking about me?

“Ah, you’re finally awake.” Su Wenwen walked into the room carrying the freshly cooked congee. She placed the congee on the bedside table and subconsciously reached out to touch the villain’s forehead. “Looks like you’re really okay now. Hurry up and drink some congee to warm your stomach. You haven’t eaten for a whole day and night.”

“I slept for that long?” Luo Xi asked, holding the bowl.

“Yes, you woke up once during the day, then fell unconscious again, and slept until now.” Su Wenwen squinted, lit the candle beside her, and asked, feigning nonchalance, “Do you remember what I said to you?”

Luo Xi knew Su Wenwen’s question was an attempt to probe her. A smile unconsciously lifted the corners of her lips. “I remember. You said that from now on, whatever you do, you’ll report to me.”

Su Wenwen smiled. She had thought the villain was muddled from the fever during the day, acting flustered like a child. So that wasn’t it!

In the darkness, only the flickering candlelight could illuminate the chagrined expression on Su Wenwen’s face. Luo Xi calmly blew on the congee on her spoon and drank it slowly. The warm congee flowed into her stomach, making her feel much better, and her mood brightened along with it.

At this moment, Sisi ran into the room, dragging a ball of water, and said, “Wenwen-jiejie, look at my magic! Isn’t it amazing!”

“Sisi is truly amazing.”

Unexpectedly, the little one had familiarized herself with her special ability in just half a day. In her previous life, most people didn’t know they had special abilities and only discovered them accidentally.

To master a special ability proficiently required several days of training. Those with strong special abilities could even create water out of thin air.

“What’s going on?” Luo Xi asked.

Su Wenwen said, “When this red rain came, the zombies became sluggish, as if they were sick. You and Sisi also fell unconscious with high fevers. After Sisi woke up, she could suddenly control water. I guess she gained a special ability because of the red rain. Perhaps you have one too.”

“But I don’t feel any changes in myself.”

“Sisi didn’t feel any changes at first either. She discovered her special ability accidentally later on. Why don’t you try to sense it carefully?”

Luo Xi put down the bowl, lifted the blanket, and stood up. She stood in place, looking around, her gaze lingering on the candle. Naturally, there was no reaction. Then she tried with water.

Su Wenwen watched from the side, feeling a bit anxious. She really wanted to remind her that her special ability was mental power, but she couldn’t.

She remembered that the villain hadn’t discovered her special ability in the early stages of the apocalypse. Surviving alone outside, and being so beautiful, naturally attracted a lot of trouble, causing the villain’s blackening value to rise higher and higher.

After discovering her mental power later on, the villain’s personality changed drastically. When she encountered injustice, she would torture people to death with cruel and bloodthirsty methods, making everyone fear her. The Luo family, having lost power due to matters concerning the establishment of the base, caused widespread dissatisfaction.

Their resources were cut off.

Luo Xi’s mother, for the sake of the family, went to seek help from the male lead and female lead. Because the male and female leads were researching a vaccine to weaken the virus, their prestige was quite high.

However, they refused to help, their reason being that the villain should reflect on her actions. But the villain’s mother still wanted to argue her case. Due to excessive agitation, she suffered a fatal heart attack, causing the villain to resent the male and female leads.

Thinking up to this point, Su Wenwen felt something was a bit strange.

The villain’s father already had a heart condition; it was understandable that he died of anger after the engagement was broken off at the birthday banquet. But the villain’s mother didn’t seem to have a heart condition. It was unlikely she would die of anger just because of resource issues.

Su Wenwen asked the System what was going on.

【Side plot. Please explore it yourself, Host.】

So, the System knew what was happening but just didn’t want to tell Su Wenwen. She really wanted to curse its mother and father.

【The System is also helpless. The System binding with the Host is already affecting the operation of this world. To minimize the impact, the Host only needs to prevent the villain from blackening. Once the female lead develops the medicine, this world can operate normally, and the System will unbind from the villain.】

【In the future, the Host will no longer be restricted and will achieve true freedom.】

Freedom.

This word was a luxury even in peaceful times. Working day in and day out, if not for a house, then for family—where was the freedom?

But now it was different. Su Wenwen didn’t dare to leave the villain, fearing the System would suddenly issue a mission. She tried not to dwell on it, but she still minded this feeling of being controlled, like being in prison. It was very uncomfortable.

“I still can’t sense anything,” Luo Xi shook her head.

“No rush, you can look for it slowly in the future.”

After saying this, Luo Xi suddenly walked slowly towards Su Wenwen, closing the distance until only two or three inches3 remained, stopping only when they could see the expressions in each other’s eyes.

Su Wenwen instinctively stepped back, but her waist was encircled by a pair of arms. She looked up, forcing down the strange feeling in her heart, and calmly met the villain’s gaze.

“Listening to you, it seems you’re certain I have a special ability?” Luo Xi’s gaze was very focused, the tear mole at the corner of her eye as bewitching as fire.

The candlelight could only barely illuminate half of Su Wenwen’s face. The warm yellow light made her cheeks look as if they were coated with a layer of delectable custard. Luo Xi lowered her eyes, pursing her lips.

“Why aren’t you talking?” Luo Xi tightened her arms. “Another little secret you can’t tell me?”

Su Wenwen nodded.

Luo Xi sighed and released Su Wenwen. “Then what is my special ability?”

Su Wenwen almost blurted it out, but she held back, shaking her head to indicate she didn’t know. The villain didn’t press the issue further. Instead, she glanced at her, the corners of her mouth curving slightly, like a little fox with a tail, utterly inscrutable.
