From now on, I’ll report my whereabouts no matter where I go
Su Wenwen had originally planned to leave once the rain lessened, but the red rain outside was set to continue for many days. The wind would also gradually strengthen, rattling the windows with a “creak,” snapping tree branches, and carrying them far away.
The man’s corpse had been thrown downstairs. The handgun, with only five bullets left, was taken by the villain. The female landlord’s body was placed in her home by her husband.
Sisi, frightened and with a slightly bruised face, hid in Su Wenwen’s arms, sobbing softly. After this incident, the child would likely be much more wary of people.
She looked at the sky outside. She remembered this red rain not being so fierce. Vaguely, it seemed like something was starting to change.
In the evening, Su Wenwen lit a candle and used a liquefied gas stove to cook a hearty noodle meal for everyone. The extra portions were given to the landlord and his son.
After eating, Sisi’s mood improved considerably. The three of them washed up and lay down on their respective beds. Su Wenwen’s lower abdomen no longer hurt, so Sisi still slept in the middle.
The heavy rain and strong winds outside were somewhat unsettling. It always felt like this old building could collapse at any moment, and they feared being crushed to death here in the middle of the night.
Just as Su Wenwen was about to fall asleep, the little girl suddenly cried out, calling for her grandpa and the female lead’s name.
Startled awake, Su Wenwen grabbed her phone and got up to check. Sisi’s small face was scrunched up; she seemed to be having a nightmare. Su Wenwen couldn’t shake her awake.
The oppressive darkness around them felt suffocating. A low growl lingered by her ear, like a wild dog warning others away from its food.
She sensed something was wrong. Shining her phone’s light towards the villain, she suddenly saw a zombie’s face lunging at her…
Su Wenwen woke up with a start.
She was drenched in cold sweat. Turning to look at the sky, it was still pouring rain, making it impossible to tell the time. Su Wenwen picked up her phone to check; it was already 6:30 AM the next day.
That nightmare was truly terrifying. She rubbed her cheeks, the real sensation of her skin calming her nerves.
Then, she turned to look at Sisi and the villain. Neither had woken up and seemed to be sleeping soundly, but their cheeks were abnormally flushed.
Su Wenwen frowned and reached out to feel their foreheads. Both were running a high fever. It seemed they were about to begin their evolution.
However, most people wouldn’t awaken any special abilities; they would merely become reservoirs for the virus. Only a small group would gain abilities, and Luo Xi was the strongest spiritual power user among them, capable of controlling all things—a truly overpowered ability.
Moreover, evolution wasn’t entirely safe. Some couldn’t withstand it and were directly burned to death. If they had fever-reducing medicine, it could help alleviate some pain and increase their chances of surviving this evolution.
She quickly got out of bed.
She found some fever-reducing medicine and gave it to them.
One adult and one child, both unconscious. The little one seemed okay, but the adult kept frowning, apparently in great discomfort.
Su Wenwen then looked for alcohol and, using a cotton swab, wiped the villain’s palms, behind her ears, and her lower back.
But the villain’s body remained astonishingly hot, like boiling water. Sisi’s temperature wasn’t as high as the villain’s. She used a digital thermometer to measure both their temperatures.
Sisi was at thirty-nine degrees Celsius.
The villain was burning at forty-five degrees Celsius—an extremely dangerous number. Su Wenwen quickly lifted a water bucket, poured the water into the bathtub, then carried the villain and placed her in the tub to soak.
Upon contact with the cold water, the villain’s frown eased slightly. Her clothes clung wetly to her exquisite figure, captivating Su Wenwen’s gaze.
Su Wenwen took a deep breath, averted her eyes, and sat quietly on the cold tiles, occasionally checking the villain’s temperature with the thermometer.
During this time, the villain woke up once. She looked at Su Wenwen with hazy eyes, wanting to get up but lacking the strength, leaning against Su Wenwen like a soft willow branch.
“Have some water.”
After drinking some water, perhaps feeling a bit more comfortable, the villain closed her eyes and fell asleep again.
【Ding: Blackening Value -3】
Su Wenwen looked at the villain’s sleeping face, carefully placed her back in the bathtub, and gently brushed aside the stray hairs from the villain’s cheek, revealing her sharply defined features.
The villain’s face was pale, possessing a kind of sickly beauty.
As the worldwide evolution began, not only would zombies weaken, but humans would too. Even if they couldn’t evolve into ability users, their bodies storing the virus would cause extreme discomfort.
Thanks to the system, Su Wenwen was the only one fully lucid. If she were to kill zombies now, it would be easy, and she’d gain many attribute points. She was a bit eager to try, but she was also worried about the villain.
After some thought, Su Wenwen decided to clear out the few zombies downstairs first. She stood up, touched the villain’s forehead to confirm her temperature had temporarily dropped, then turned and went out.
Su Wenwen carefully descended the stairs, knife in hand. The wind howled into the stairwell, sometimes sounding like wailing ghosts and howling wolves. The iron gate of the stairwell had been blown down by the wind and hung half-attached to the wall, banging back and forth.
The water had already risen to knee-level, a murky, dark red. At first glance, it was horrifying. The current was a bit strong, and her feet felt like they were tripping over something in the water, making walking slightly difficult.
The zombies hidden at the bottom of the stairwell were still there, not washed away by the current, just lingering like slow-moving elderly people who couldn’t find their way.
Their usually keen hearing failed to detect Su Wenwen as she approached them, as if their ears were deaf, their noses blocked, and their eyes blind.
Su Wenwen’s gaze was sharp. With a swift slash of her knife, she dispatched the zombies without much effort.
The corpses floated away with the current.
【Attribute Points Gained: 27】
Indeed, Su Wenwen’s guess was correct. Although the zombies were very weak, they had already begun to evolve. Killing just three zombies had yielded twenty-seven attribute points.
Su Wenwen didn’t venture outside. No matter how strong she was, she couldn’t fight against nature. So, she sheathed her knife and headed back.
Her shoes were full of water, which made her a bit uncomfortable. She took out her key and opened the door, intending to change her wet shoes, when suddenly someone hugged her from behind.
Su Wenwen froze.
The person behind her rested their chin on her shoulder, their hot breath brushing against her earlobe and the sensitive skin of her neck.
“Where did you go?”
The villain’s voice was a bit weak, but her arms holding Su Wenwen were strong, locking her firmly in place.
A strange feeling arose in Su Wenwen’s heart. She hurriedly composed herself and said, “I just cleared out the zombies in the stairwell. I didn’t go anywhere.”
The villain released her.
As soon as Su Wenwen turned around, the villain pushed her against the wall. They faced each other, looking into each other’s eyes.
The villain’s wet hair clung to her cheeks. Her eyes were downcast, making her look like an injured child who had been abandoned.
Su Wenwen smiled and pinched the villain’s slightly hot cheek, teasing, “Don’t worry, Jiejie won’t abandon you.”
Luo Xi grabbed Su Wenwen’s hand, frowning. “I was worried about you. How can you still be in the mood to joke?”
This left Su Wenwen speechless. She could only say sheepishly, “I’m sorry for making you worry. From now on, wherever I go or whatever I do, I’ll report to you. Is that okay?”
After saying this, Su Wenwen noticed that the villain was quite capable of changing expressions. One second she was serious, the next she was smiling, and to top it off, the villain had a tear mole at the corner of her eye, which made her smile particularly captivating.
“And if you can’t do it?”
“Then you can punish me!” she said nonchalantly.
Although she hadn’t spent much time with the villain, Su Wenwen felt she was no longer afraid of her. But when she saw the villain suddenly lean closer, her heart skipped a beat again.
The hot breath was right in front of her, getting closer and closer. Su Wenwen’s body stiffened, and she instinctively closed her eyes. Then, she felt the villain collapse into her arms.
Su Wenwen: “…”
She placed the villain on the sofa and quickly went into the room to get clean clothes. But the villain had fainted, and Su Wenwen hesitated, unsure how to change her clothes.
After thinking about it, if she didn’t change her clothes, even if the villain survived the evolution, her health would suffer from a cold and fever.
Su Wenwen ran back into the room, grabbed a blanket, covered the villain with it, and then began to unfasten the villain’s pants. Honestly, she had never found changing someone’s clothes to be such an exhausting task.
Her fingers would inevitably touch things they shouldn’t.
She felt that every part of the villain’s body was hot, and even her own fingers seemed to burn. Su Wenwen shook her head, composed herself, and changed the villain’s clothes in one go.
She then found a towel to dry the villain’s hair.
After doing all this, Su Wenwen sat directly on the floor, leaning against the edge of the sofa to rest. She looked at the villain’s sleeping face and, as if possessed, reached out to touch that tear mole.
“Sigh, changing your clothes is more tiring than killing zombies.” Then she added, vexed, “I took a bullet for you, changed your clothes for you… what else do I have to do to leave an important mark in your heart?”
The mission was unclear. Even when she asked the system, the answer was always to explore on her own. Su Wenwen was like a headless fly. She had done everything she could think of. All she could say was that the villain was truly hard to get close to, or perhaps she just hadn’t done enough.
Seeing the villain sleeping so soundly while she herself had been toiling for half the day, Su Wenwen couldn’t resist gently poking the tear mole. The mole didn’t feel like much to the touch, just a tiny black dot on fair skin, but it added color to the villain’s aura, like the finishing touch that brings a dragon to life1.
As she looked, Su Wenwen became engrossed.
The villain had large eyes and deep-set eye sockets, which made her facial features appear sharp, distinct, and very aggressive. That was why Su Wenwen usually didn’t look at the villain’s face much. Only in situations like this did she dare to observe her up close.
It was like admiring a precious gem.
“Great villain, you have to stay well too. Don’t ‘blacken’,” Su Wenwen murmured, resting her head on the edge of the sofa, looking at the other’s face as her own eyes gradually closed.
Luo Xi’s eyelids twitched slightly, then returned to stillness.
