I Pursued My Scummy Ex’s White Moonlight – Chapter 14

Can two days of care be exchanged for one of your secrets?

“You really are a good person.”

This topic finally ended hastily with Su Wenwen being labeled with the “good person” hat.

She listened to this sentence, stunned for a long time.

Is the villain saying this because she doesn’t believe me, so she’s sarcastically calling me a good person?

Sigh, this misunderstanding has gotten a bit out of hand. Su Wenwen never even thought of using the villain.

She wanted to explain, but hearing the villain’s even breathing, she had to give up. She curled up her body, closed her eyes, and lay in a corner alone, enduring the pain and urging herself to sleep.

But at this moment, the villain turned over and once again held Su Wenwen in her arms.

Su Wenwen didn’t dare to move recklessly. She didn’t know if the villain was asleep or not. After waiting for a while and seeing no other movements from the villain, it seemed like a perfectly normal turn, just changing to a more comfortable sleeping position.

Gradually, Su Wenwen felt a bit drowsy and drifted off to sleep in a daze.

The next morning, the power suddenly came back on at home, but it was intermittent, going out every few hours. The phone signal was also sporadic.

Su Wenwen was still lying in bed, not getting up. Her period on the second day made her feel like she was dying from the pain. She had no mind to think about last night’s events and was constantly humming and groaning.

Lin Sisi stayed by Su Wenwen’s side. Seeing her in so much pain, she was also very scared, always feeling like Su Wenwen was about to meet King Yama1 and spoke to her very cautiously.

The villain went in and out of the room several times, changing Su Wenwen’s hot water bottle and finding painkillers for her to take, but they weren’t very effective. Breakfast and lunch were also brought to her and force-fed.

Honestly, apart from her parents, this was the first time she had been cared for to the point of being useless. The villain was, after all, a young lady of a wealthy family2, accustomed to a life where “clothes come with an outstretched hand, and food arrives with an open mouth,”3 yet she had been busy for half a day for her sake.

It was impossible not to be moved.

Su Wenwen leaned weakly against the headboard and said, “I’ve really troubled you these past two days. Thank you.”

Luo Xi gently blew on the spoonful of porridge she had just ladled from the bowl and fed it to Su Wenwen. Su Wenwen was very cooperative, opening her small mouth and drinking the porridge bit by bit. A little glistening porridge broth stuck to her rosy lips, and she extended the tip of her tongue to lick it clean.

Luo Xi stared at her lips, slightly dazed, then averted her gaze. After feeding her the porridge, she took away the bowl and chopsticks.

There was still a lot of water stored in the kitchen. Besides, this water couldn’t be taken away, so Luo Xi didn’t worry about wasting it at all, using it as needed.

She stood absentmindedly in front of the sink, thinking about her various abnormal behaviors, only snapping back to her senses when her fingertips touched the cold water.

Lin Sisi followed her into the kitchen. She was very worried about Su Wenwen and asked, “Luo Xi-jiejie, Wenwen-jiejie will be alright, won’t she?”

Luo Xi looked down at her with lowered eyelids. “She’ll be fine. Period pain is something every girl has to go through.”

“Ah, then will I become like Wenwen-jiejie in the future?” Lin Sisi was stunned.

“Maybe.”

Lin Sisi’s little head was filled with images of Su Wenwen lying on the bed groaning. She looked extremely pained. Lin Sisi’s small face scrunched up, looking frightened and on the verge of tears.

Luo Xi didn’t comfort her. Compared to other things, period pain was just a trivial matter in the apocalypse.

She went to the living room and frowned once more as she looked at the abundant supplies around. The cardboard boxes were all new, many still unopened. Such thorough preparation was clearly not due to a usual habit of hoarding; it could only mean Su Wenwen knew in advance that the apocalypse was coming.

But how could that be possible?

Even the government was caught off guard. Su Wenwen was just an ordinary person, so how could she have known all this in advance?

Luo Xi’s phone rang.

She collected her thoughts, switched the ringer to vibrate, and walked to a corner farther away from the room to answer the call.

Her brother said that the Old Master4 had rejected the application to build a temporary defensive area and had already sent people to various places to find suitable locations to establish a base.

“Sigh, the Old Master won’t listen to us juniors anyway. I’m not going to bother with the defensive area anymore. Where are you now? I’ll come pick you up.”

“No need. I plan to leave here in a few days. If anything goes wrong with the defensive area, the Luo family’s reputation will be greatly damaged. If we still want to gain real power in this apocalyptic disaster, it will be as difficult as ascending to heaven.”

Luo Xi’s brother was a smart person. Hearing her say this, he knew what to do. The two siblings talked for a while longer before hanging up the phone.

As soon as Luo Xi turned around, she saw Su Wenwen standing at the doorway. Her face was still very pale, and when she walked, she was like a willow branch swaying in the wind5, drifting back and forth, looking like she might float away at any moment.

“Did I disturb you?”

Su Wenwen shook her head. “No, I couldn’t sleep anyway. Don’t worry, I’m much better. We’ll set off tomorrow to pick up the car from your place.”

Luo Xi nodded, then turned her gaze to the little one and said, “Sisi, can you wait for us at home alone tomorrow?”

Although Lin Sisi was young, she understood many things. She knew that going with them would cause trouble. Even though she worried in her heart that she might not see them return, she still nodded obediently.

Luo Xi patted Lin Sisi’s head. “Don’t worry, we’ll come back for you. When we have news from your sister, I’ll take you to Lin Wan’s side then.”

“Mm, Sisi will wait for big sisters to come back safely.”

Given how well-behaved Sisi was, Luo Xi gave her a candy as a reward. For the entire afternoon, the two of them prepared the equipment needed for tomorrow’s trip: an extra-long watermelon knife6, protective gear for extreme sports, climbing ropes, as well as food and medicine, etc.

Extra-long watermelon knife

The two of them were packing in the guest room.

Su Wenwen didn’t actually need to pack specifically, as everything was already prepared in her space backpack. She just needed to put on an act.

“These things you’ve prepared are very thorough. When I first saw these supplies, I thought you knew in advance that the apocalypse would come.” Luo Xi casually glanced at Su Wenwen’s back. She shouldn’t have asked, but she did anyway.

Su Wenwen didn’t answer immediately. She knew Luo Xi was very smart and any attempt to quibble would be seen through, so she simply said honestly, “This is my secret. I can’t tell you.”

Luo Xi paused, then a slight smile lifted the corners of her mouth. “Can’t my two days of taking care of you be exchanged for this secret?”

“Not even for twenty days.” However, saying it like that felt a bit hurtful, so Su Wenwen turned back and added, “Maybe I’ll tell you in the future.”

Saying “in the future” simply meant that the current Su Wenwen didn’t trust Luo Xi very much yet, which was understandable. At least, if it were Luo Xi herself, she would never tell important secrets to others, including her family.

That Su Wenwen could say this was already beyond Luo Xi’s expectations. She smiled and said, “Alright, I’ll wait slowly.”

Wait slowly, perhaps while waiting, one would forget.

Just like the words Helian Yun had said, the promises made, Su Wenwen waited and waited, and eventually forgot them herself. Over time, she wouldn’t ask for any commitments.

As night fell, the phone signal worsened again.

Su Wenwen tried to open a webpage; it was either a 404 error or just kept loading endlessly. When she walked to the door, the signal improved slightly.

The zombies outside the door had disappeared at some point. Looking through the peephole, the apartment opposite was also quiet, with no movement.

Just as she was about to go back to her room to sleep, she happened to receive a call from her best friend. Thinking back, they had only contacted each other once since the apocalypse broke out. She didn’t know how her best friend was doing now, so she quickly answered the call.

As soon as her best friend heard Su Wenwen’s voice, her speech turned into choked sobs. She said that a couple next door had run out of food, and the man came to her door asking for some. Initially, she didn’t want to give any, but the man’s wife was eight months pregnant and needed nourishment.

Her best friend also knew the young woman next door was pregnant. They were all neighbors and often greeted each other. Her heart softened, so she gave the man a little food to take back. As a result, the man brought people to her door the very next day, asking for more food.

They still hadn’t left.

She and her family were afraid the men would force their way in, so they moved furniture to block the door. But once the men became desperate with hunger, this furniture wouldn’t be able to stop a group of them from breaking down the door.

Her best friend asked Su Wenwen to help her think of a solution.

What solution could Su Wenwen have? She had previously warned her best friend not to let anyone see the food she had hoarded at home. Now, the only way was to distribute the food, and it had to be done in front of everyone.

And after distributing the food, she had to leave immediately.

“But it’s so dangerous outside…”

“Don’t be foolish. You won’t be safe at home either. Even if you give away all your food, they’ll just think you have more hidden somewhere in the house. You need to leave immediately.”

“Okay, I understand,” her best friend said. “Actually, I was already planning to go to the defensive area established in the East District for shelter. If you’re not safe at home, you should go…”

Before her best friend could finish speaking, the phone call disconnected, and the power at home went out again. Su Wenwen remembered that the East District defensive area had been attacked by evolved zombies after the Red Rain. Some survivors had escaped, but most people died there.

She was a bit worried about her best friend and quickly started typing a message.

【Host, don’t worry. Although Host’s best friend is also a passerby character, she is not cannon fodder.】

What does that mean?

【There are many types of passerby characters. A survivor base can accommodate thousands of people; how could the names of thousands of people appear in the book? Host’s best friend is one of the survivors. As long as this world is not destroyed, she will definitely live longer than Host.】

【Special reminder: Due to the System’s existence, if Host interacts with her best friend, there is a probability that Host’s best friend’s fate will change accordingly—it could be for the better or for the worse. The System cannot guarantee any of these outcomes. The System only focuses on capturing the villain.】

This means if I don’t interact with my best friend, she’ll survive. If I do interact, she might be upgraded to a supporting character or downgraded to cannon fodder.

Su Wenwen pondered for a moment, then deleted the text she had just typed. Since she knew her best friend would be fine, the most important thing for her to do now was to strengthen herself.
