What are you hiding from?
The weather these past few days has been really abnormal. The wind howls at night, and the temperature has dropped a bit. Occasionally, you can hear zombies roaring outside the window, which makes your hair stand on end.
The guest rooms are all piled high with supplies, mostly mineral water, so no one can sleep there. Sleeping in the same bed with the villain at night isn’t a big deal, but bathing…
Su Wenwen clutched the new clothes, shoes, underwear, and other things she had found, still not quite over what happened this afternoon.
“Hey, should we take a bath together tonight?”
Yes, Su Wenwen had said it very directly at the time. She was actually prepared to be rejected, but she hadn’t expected the villain to nod and even tell her to get the clothes ready.
Things were progressing so smoothly that Su Wenwen even suspected the villain might have forgotten she was a mosquito coil. She took a deep breath and stood up, holding the clothes.
Luo Xi pushed the door open and walked in.
“I’ll go run the hot water first.”
Su Wenwen nodded, a little dazed.
The villain naturally pushed open the bathroom door and went in. Su Wenwen stood at the bathroom entrance holding the clothes, realizing her heart was pounding violently, and even her breathing had become rapid.
The more she tried to adjust with deep breaths, the more nervous she became.
The sound of splashing water came from inside the bathroom. Because Su Wenwen lived alone—even though she had dated Helian Yun before, Helian Yun never stayed over, just took the money and left, not wanting to spare Su Wenwen an extra glance.
So, the bathroom door was made of frosted, semi-transparent glass, offering little privacy. Because they were afraid of attracting zombies, the lights were dimmed, and a tall, slender figure could vaguely be seen moving around inside.
Even though she couldn’t see anything clearly, it felt as if she could see everything inside. Su Wenwen covered her burning cheeks, repeatedly telling herself not to let her imagination run wild—the mission came first.
“Have you got the clothes?” Luo Xi asked.
Su Wenwen hummed an “Mm,” the sound from her nose seeming as hot as boiling water. She placed the clothes in a small basket by the door. Just as her hand reached for the doorknob, her eyes caught the figure starting to undress.
In the end, she chickened out.
Su Wenwen really couldn’t convince herself to treat the villain with a calm heart. She just liked girls, especially girls like the villain who were cold on the outside but warm on the inside. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been played for a fool by Helian Yun.
“I’ve put the clothes outside. You wash first. I think I’ll wait a bit to take my bath.” Saying this, Su Wenwen breathed a sigh of relief.
Although it was a bit of a pity not to get the mission reward, thankfully, the mission’s punishment wasn’t too severe. As long as she quietly hid at home for these few days and waited for the punishment period to pass, it would be fine.
Just as she let go of the doorknob, the door suddenly opened a crack. A fair hand reached out and grabbed Su Wenwen before she could react. The door opened and closed, and she was dragged inside.
Su Wenwen was pressed against the glass door.
The villain was only wearing underwear. Strands of smooth black hair cascaded from her shoulders, falling over her chest, partially concealing and partially revealing. Because the villain was too close, Su Wenwen pressed her hands against the other’s shoulders.
Her palms met smooth, soft skin.
A faint fragrance lingered around her nose. The villain’s eyes, adorned with a beauty mark1 near the eye, lifted slightly, an infinite allure directly assaulting Su Wenwen’s nerves.
“Didn’t you say we were going to bathe together? Why the sudden change of heart?” Luo Xi pinched Su Wenwen’s cheek, her long, sharp eyes slightly narrowed, seemingly enjoying the soft bounciness of the cheek.
“I… I…” Su Wenwen stammered for a long time, feeling weak all over, not daring to look anywhere on the villain. “Little Squirt2 is only five. She can’t bathe herself. I’ll bathe with her later.”
Su Wenwen kept avoiding Luo Xi’s gaze, and Luo Xi noticed this too. She chuckled lightly; she hadn’t expected Su Wenwen, who seemed so fierce on the outside, to actually be a timid rabbit3—so jumpy and easily startled. Quite cute, actually.
Luo Xi didn’t make things difficult for Su Wenwen and let her leave.
Su Wenwen’s legs felt like jelly. She leaned on the wall, took two steps, and then crumpled to the ground. The sound of running water and the scent of shower gel reached her ears. Her mind raced uncontrollably, as if she could see the villain bathing—completely naked, that is.
She covered her face, feeling so embarrassed.
“Wenwen-jie, why are you sitting on the floor?” Lin Sisi heard the noise, pushed open the door, and stood at the entrance, not entering the room without permission.
Su Wenwen beckoned to her. “Little Squirt, come here.”
Lin Sisi’s little legs slowly shuffled over to Su Wenwen. Su Wenwen pressed down on her head, using her as a makeshift crutch to stand up. Poor her, her small frame almost couldn’t bear the weight, and she nearly tumbled over.
“Little Squirt, you’re quite useful. Later, I’ll help you bathe, and then you sleep in the middle of the bed, okay?” Su Wenwen patted Lin Sisi’s head.
“But I know how to bathe myself.”
Su Wenwen almost forgot. Lin Sisi wasn’t favored by her parents. Only the female lead, Lin Wan, and her grandfather doted on her the most. But the female lead was at university doing research, and her grandfather, being a man, couldn’t always help her bathe. So, Lin Sisi had learned daily life skills like bathing and brushing her teeth at a very young age.
“You have to say you don’t know how to bathe, understand?”
Lin Sisi didn’t understand. She just thought Su Wenwen was very strange; her eyes looked as if she was about to cry. But she still nodded obediently and said, “Mm, okay.”
The villain took a rather long bath, coming out after about half an hour when the water had cooled. Her height was similar to Su Wenwen’s, just a tiny bit taller, so wearing Su Wenwen’s clothes wasn’t awkward, but they weren’t a perfect fit either.
The shoes were one size too big; with insoles, they were barely wearable.
The villain’s hair was very long, and water was still dripping from it. Su Wenwen got the hairdryer and helped her dry her hair. Her hair was too long, making it a bit difficult to dry. Fortunately, the villain’s hair was smooth enough that it didn’t tangle even with a casual comb-through, and the water droplets quickly evaporated.
Luo Xi closed her eyes.
Su Wenwen’s hands were deft and gentle. While drying her hair, the pads of her fingers would occasionally brush along the strands. Luo Xi really enjoyed this light touch; it allowed her to relax both physically and mentally.
“Do you also dry Helian Yun’s hair like this?” Luo Xi was even a bit surprised herself after asking this question.
“I’ve never dried her hair.”
Su Wenwen was telling the truth. She had genuinely liked Helian Yun back then, but Helian Yun had always avoided her. Forget drying hair; they hadn’t even held hands and gone shopping together many times.
Hearing this answer, Luo Xi pursed her lips into a smile and took the hairdryer. “I’ll do it myself.”
“Oh!”
Su Wenwen went to the bathroom to check the water temperature. It wasn’t hot enough yet, so she first went to the kitchen and heated two glasses of milk, one for the villain and one for Lin Sisi. After drinking the milk, the two of them went to brush their teeth.
After the water was hot, Su Wenwen took Lin Sisi to bathe with her. The child was very quiet and cooperative, just too soft, as if she would break with a pinch.
Su Wenwen’s strength had increased a lot, so she didn’t dare to actually bathe Lin Sisi. She just casually applied some shower gel on her and let her wash the rest herself.
There were no children’s clothes at home, so she could only casually put a summer top on Sisi. A child wearing adult clothes looked comical but also very cute.
After bustling about for a good while, when the two of them came out, the villain was already lying on the bed, but she only occupied a small portion, leaving more than half the space for Su Wenwen and Lin Sisi.
Once midnight passed, Su Wenwen’s mission failed, and she was supposed to suffer a threefold pain penalty. However, she was so exhausted that she fell asleep before she could even register it properly.
The night passed peacefully.
Su Wenwen was lying in her familiar bed, unusually lazing around. She was awakened by a scream. When she woke up, she was alone in the bed.
The sound was outside the window.
Su Wenwen threw off the covers and walked to the window.
Several survivors were fleeing with backpacks on their backs. The backpacks were bulging, clearly indicating they had gone out to find food. But they were still discovered by zombies, who were chasing them relentlessly. As their stamina drained, the distance between them and the zombies grew shorter and shorter.
The person running at the very back was pounced on. The heart-wrenching screams were exceptionally clear in the empty streets, reaching one’s ears and making one feel utterly powerless and desperate.
Lin Sisi followed the sound and came to Su Wenwen’s side.
Su Wenwen patted her head, not stopping her from watching the cruel scene. Instead, she said, “In the apocalypse, children your age and the elderly have the hardest time surviving.”
Lin Sisi looked at Su Wenwen with red eyes. “Wenwen-jie, I miss Grandpa. I miss my older sister.”
“Where is your sister now?”
“My grandpa was originally going to take me to find my sister. My sister should still be at West District University. I don’t know if she’ll be in danger.”
West District University was also very dangerous now. However, Su Wenwen wasn’t worried about the female lead’s safety. After all, she was the protagonist of the novel. As long as the villain didn’t suddenly “blacken”, she would most likely live to old age.
“Don’t worry, your sister has someone protecting her.”
“You seem to know Lin Wan quite well?” Luo Xi pushed the door open and came in, happening to hear Su Wenwen’s last sentence, which couldn’t help but make her suspicious.
Su Wenwen saw Luo Xi wearing the clothes she had bought, and a strange feeling arose in her heart, one she couldn’t quite describe. She quickly walked over to Luo Xi and said in a low voice, “Not at all, I was just saying that to comfort Lin Sisi.”
Luo Xi didn’t press further, just glanced at Su Wenwen and said, “Mm, let’s eat breakfast. I’ve heated up milk and bread.”
Su Wenwen nodded, washed up, changed into loose clothes, and then sat down at the dining table. After drinking the hot milk and eating the crispy bread, she felt comfortable all over.
She had been in a good mood. After all, being able to live like this in the apocalypse was quite a luxury. Until Helian Yun sent a series of messages, completely ruining her good mood.
The content of the messages was still very outrageous.
The gist was asking where Su Wenwen was, when she had hooked up with the villain, and that if Su Wenwen didn’t reply to her messages, she would go to the rental apartment to find her.
Su Wenwen smirked. In her previous life, she had gone to great lengths to find Helian Yun. In this life, letting Helian Yun chase after her4 was quite interesting. However, she didn’t want to get too entangled with Helian Yun, so she ignored the messages.
Suit herself.
When Su Wenwen was reading the messages, she didn’t hide it from the villain. She was drinking milk from her cup, and a faint white mustache remained on her upper lip. She stuck out her red tongue and licked all the milkiness clean.
Luo Xi’s gaze was first on the phone screen, then it was drawn to Su Wenwen’s action of licking up the milk.
Lin Sisi sat to one side, her little eyes looking at Su Wenwen for a moment, then at Luo Xi. She kept feeling that the two seemed like very good friends, yet not quite like friends. Her little head couldn’t quite figure it out.
After breakfast, Su Wenwen cleared away the cups.
Now that she didn’t have to go to work and had nothing much to do, Su Wenwen organized her spatial backpack, combined the three backpacks into one, and went into the guest room to pack things away in advance.
Medical supplies, water, and sanitary napkins were essential.
