Lin Sisi
The water and electricity at home were still working for now, but it wouldn’t last much longer. In a few more days, both the power and water would be cut off, and the internet was also spotty. That’s when it would really test a person’s survival skills.
Many people would also realize that the prosperity and peace of the past were gone for good. Without the constraints of law, the darker side of human nature would be completely exposed.
“You’ve hoarded quite a bit of food at home.” Luo Xi looked around. The walls were surrounded by cardboard boxes filled with all sorts of bottles and jars. There was also a lot of drinking water, as well as various equipment like ropes and knives. The cost had to be at least a hundred thousand.
Although Luo Xi spoke in a calm and affirmative tone, there was a deep sense of doubt. Su Wenwen couldn’t explain, so she just gave a perfunctory smile and turned her gaze to the quiet little girl nearby.
The girl had large eyes, delicate eyebrows, red lips, and white teeth. Being in an unfamiliar environment, she seemed nervous and uneasy, standing in a relatively open space, afraid to touch anything.
Looking at the girl, Su Wenwen thought about when she had gone to find Helian Yun. Back then, she had felt just like this little girl, with that feeling of depending on others’ charity,1 afraid of being kicked out.
“What’s your name?” Su Wenwen tried her best to maintain a gentle smile.
“Lin Sisi2.”
The name sounded a bit familiar, but Su Wenwen was sure she had never crossed paths with the girl.
“Is Lin Wan3 your older sister?” Luo Xi asked.
The girl nodded.
Su Wenwen was shocked. Lin Wan was the female lead, and this little girl was actually the female lead’s younger sister! She remembered that the female lead’s family conditions were average, but her parents had wanted a son, so they had a second child, only to have another daughter.
They paid no attention to the little girl. Come to think of it, Lin Sisi was raised by Lin Wan. However, because Lin Sisi died in the apocalypse, the cheerful female lead became quiet and withdrawn, dedicating herself entirely to research.
It was the male lead who helped the female lead overcome the gloom of losing her loved one, and that’s how the two officially fell in love.
Now that Lin Sisi was still alive, could the female lead and male lead still get together?
Why hadn’t the system reminded her?
【Even if the system had reminded you, Host, would you have just let Lin Sisi die?】
Su Wenwen was silent.
【Although Host has decided to live for herself, she can’t bring herself to be ruthless. What a good child.】
Being given a ‘good person card’4 by the system felt a little annoying. Su Wenwen sighed. Forget it. Since things have come to this, I’ll just take it one step at a time.
Su Wenwen crouched down in front of the girl. “Can I call you Sisi from now on?”
Lin Sisi nodded again, then looked at Luo Xi, her gaze timid, looking like she wanted to ask something but didn’t dare to speak.
Luo Xi saw through her thoughts and said, “Your sister and I know each other. We’ve met a few times.”
No kidding!
Because of their prominent families, the male lead and the villain had an arranged childhood engagement5. However, the male lead didn’t like the villain; the person he truly liked was the female lead. So, at the villain’s eighteenth birthday banquet, he proposed to break off the engagement, which directly angered the villain’s father to death.
From then on, the two families became enemies.
All business collaborations were terminated, stocks plummeted, and media reports were flying everywhere6. At that time, Su Wenwen was just a sophomore in college, not yet with Helian Yun, and she’d hear her roommates ‘singing about grasslands’ every day.
“You must all be hungry, right? I’ll go make some food.”
Eating together can help people relax. Lin Sisi would probably feel more at ease too.
There was a lot of food stored at home. While the water and electricity were still on, Su Wenwen went to wash rice and cook. She also plugged in her phone to charge, and Luo Xi put her phone aside to charge as well.
Lin Sisi sat quietly on the sofa by herself. Even though her stomach was growling with hunger, she didn’t reach for the snacks in the boxes. So, Su Wenwen placed some fruit on the coffee table.
“The fruit will go bad if we don’t eat it.”
Hearing this, Lin Sisi finally picked up a piece of fruit and started eating. Su Wenwen then went into the kitchen to prepare lunch.
The refrigerator was stocked with various fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, and dairy products. Outside the window, the sky was still gloomy, with lightning and thunder, but no rain. It was as if some kind of power was continuously building up, waiting for the moment to erupt.
“I’ll help you.”
Luo Xi took off her jacket, revealing a long-sleeved white shirt underneath. The shirt, made of some unknown material, looked very light and thin, without a single wrinkle. The collar had a slightly curled lace edge, and with one button undone, it made her neck look longer and her aura nobler.
Su Wenwen averted her gaze and didn’t stand on ceremony, leaving the least pleasant tasks for Luo Xi, like gutting the fish.
However, the fish was still frozen and needed some time to thaw in warm water, so she had the villain pluck vegetables and shred potatoes first.
What surprised Su Wenwen a bit was that the villain handled these tasks with ease. Her knife skills were exceptionally good; the shredded potatoes were all uniform in size.
“You know how to cook?”
Luo Xi shook her head. “The auntie7 at home does all the cooking.”
“But your shredded potatoes are cut so well. Even a chef might not have your knife skills.”
“I’m just good with knives, that’s all.”
Luo Xi smiled, flipping the kitchen knife in her hand a full circle in the air before it landed steadily back in her palm.
Su Wenwen’s eyes widened in admiration. “So cool!” she exclaimed. “Alright, from now on, all the knife work is yours.”
Luo Xi didn’t reply but looked at Su Wenwen with a raised eyebrow. The beauty mark at the corner of her eye made her teasing gaze exude a captivating charm8.
Su Wenwen blushed and quickly said, “I mean, all the knife work in the kitchen later will be up to you.”
“Mm, okay.”
【Beep: Blackening Value -3】
【New Mission Triggered: Sharing a Room】
【Host, please bathe and sleep together with the villain before midnight to deepen your mutual affection. Mission failure will result in tripled pain sensation, lasting for three days.】
What kind of ridiculous mission is this?
Su Wenwen’s gaze subconsciously drifted towards the villain. She had rolled up her sleeves, her slender arms reaching into the sink, checking if the fish had softened.
Luo Xi caught Su Wenwen’s gaze out of the corner of her eye. She glanced sideways slightly and saw Su Wenwen turn her head away, blushing, looking quite guilty.
This mission left Su Wenwen feeling a bit flustered. If she were a straight girl, she would definitely handle this mission with ease9. But unfortunately, she wasn’t.
The villain also knew she was ‘bent like a mosquito coil10‘, so she would definitely try to keep her distance, making the mission exponentially harder.

【Host, you’re just overthinking it. Treat it normally and just consider your own interests.】
Su Wenwen gripped the spatula, lit the stove to heat the wok. The range hood whirred ‘hulala’, temporarily suppressing the chaotic thoughts in her mind as she focused on stir-frying.
For several years, Su Wenwen had been cooking for herself, so the kitchen had a strong smell of cooking fumes, and there were yellowish stains in the corners.
Her cooking skills weren’t bad; the few dishes she made were all excellent in color, aroma, and taste. However, Lin Sisi was still very reserved, eating in tiny bites and rarely reaching for food herself.
So, Su Wenwen put some food on her plate and, while she was at it, turned on the TV. Having another sound in the room might help all three of them feel more at ease.
Right now, the TV was full of apocalypse-related reports; all other channels showed ‘no signal’.
A TV station reporter was hiding in a residential building, filming the scene outside the window. It was deathly silent, with only a few scattered zombies roaming the streets.
A few military vehicles were parked in the middle of the road, and newly erected iron railings stood by the roadside. But the soldiers were nowhere to be found. It looked like they had intended to set up a checkpoint, but an emergency had occurred, causing the setup to fail.
The reporter just kept repeating for everyone to stay at home and go out less, his tone lifeless11, making listeners feel more and more hopeless.
Su Wenwen had no choice but to turn off the TV again. She was planning to find a DVD to play for Lin Sisi, but her phone suddenly rang at that moment.
Su Wenwen got up to answer the phone. It was her parents. They were worried about Su Wenwen and insisted on coming to find her, no matter what.
Su Wenwen said a few words and then hung up. She took a few photos and sent them over. When her mother saw so much food stocked up in the pictures, she felt much more relieved. However, she had sharp eyes and spotted other figures reflected on the TV screen.
Immediately after, a series of voice messages came through.
Su Wenwen didn’t think much of it and directly played them.
“Nannan12, didn’t you say you were going to break up with Helian Yun? Who’s that next to you? Is it Helian Yun?”
“Nannan, you can’t lie to Mom and Dad. We’re really worried about you…”
Su Wenwen quickly turned off the voice message, glanced apologetically at the villain, and then sent a message to her mother to explain. But her mother didn’t believe her and insisted that Su Wenwen send a photo of herself with the person.
Su Wenwen felt this was a bit rude, so she refused.
(I knew it! You like Helian Yun so much, how could you break up for no reason? So you were lying to Mom all along, Nannan… Don’t make Mom worry. Don’t be with her.)
Su Wenwen converted the voice message to text. It wasn’t hard to tell from the words that her mother was in a very bad mood at that moment.
Helpless, she had no choice but to ask the villain for help with the photo. Who knew that when the villain took her phone, she directly made a video call.
The call connected. Mother Su still had tears in the corners of her eyes. When she saw the villain’s face, she was stunned for a moment, then quickly wiped away her tears after regaining her composure.
“Hello, Auntie. I’m Luo Xi.” Luo Xi smiled naturally, appearing poised and appropriate.
“Oh, you… hello.”
Mother Su, who usually spoke fluently, was now stuttering a bit. Father Su was peeking from behind in the video call, seemingly not wanting to be seen; only his sparsely-haired scalp could be seen popping into view from time to time.
“Hello, Auntie.” Lin Sisi also poked her little head into view. “My name is Lin Sisi. Wenwen-jiejie took us in to stay here.”
When Mother Su saw the child, her face immediately lit up with a smile. Su Wenwen stood by, watching them talk.
She knew her mother loved children, and her greatest wish was to see Su Wenwen get married and have kids. But this wish would probably never come true.
After the call ended, Su Wenwen got her phone back. Her mother had left her a message, saying that the villain looked very distinguished, was a good child, and that they should get along well.
Su Wenwen simply replied with an “Okay.”
After lunch, the villain proactively took over washing the dishes, while Lin Sisi wiped the table.
Su Wenwen stood at the kitchen doorway, pondering the mission.
