I Am More Paranoid Than the Villain – Chapter 89

Moving Out

If Only Miss Lin Were Here

The door was gently closed.

A ‘creak,’ very, very soft, yet it was like an explosion next to the ear in the quiet bedroom.

Xia Ke turned her head, her light blue eyes devoid of ripples.

She only glanced at her before turning her head away again.

Yin Ruxu bit her lip, a wronged expression appearing on her delicate face.

She walked over and said softly, “Xiao Ke, I have something I want to say to you alone.”

She deliberately emphasized the word ‘alone,’ her eyes glancing toward Shen Man as she spoke.

Shen Man understood the meaning behind her words and looked at Xia Ke.

“If you want to say something, say it here.” Xia Ke looked directly at Yin Ruxu, her voice cold.

Hearing this, tears immediately welled up in Yin Ruxu’s eyes, and she lowered her head, choking back a sob.

After hesitating for a moment, she looked up at Xia Ke and said softly through her tears, “Xiao Ke, Yidan-jie just told me she was only joking. If you don’t believe me, you can go ask her…”

Xia Ke let out a cold laugh, the disappointment in her heart greater than her anger.

She looked intently at that little face like pear blossoms in the rain1, staring for a long time before giving a sad smile. “If you hadn’t gone to see her just now, if you had chosen me, maybe I would have believed you one more time.”

“But it’s too late for everything. From now on, there is nothing between us.”

“Xiao Ke…” Yin Ruxu shook her head, crying, her body going limp as she knelt on the floor. “You said we would always be together, that you would be good to me for a lifetime…”

“Are you going to eat your words2 now?” she asked, her eyes red, the look on her face both fragile and pitiful.

Xia Ke lowered her gaze and slowly turned around.

Sitting on the edge of her own bed, she said, “Manman, you should go back first.”

“Okay.” Shen Man nodded and started walking out.

As she passed by Yin Ruxu, she shot her an icy glance before quickly exiting the bedroom.

The sound of suddenly amplified crying came from behind her.

Shen Man stopped, looked back at the tightly closed door, and frowned in thought for a moment before turning to leave.

Back in the apartment, Shen Man changed her shoes in the entryway.

Auntie He came over, a troubled look on her face. “Manman, Miss Feng came by this afternoon. She said…”

At this point, Auntie He sighed.

Hearing the change in address, Shen Man roughly understood.

After changing her shoes, she said with a calm expression, “What is it? You can just say it directly.”

“Miss Feng wants you to move out tomorrow,” Auntie He said, her face full of helplessness and worry. “Manman, do you want me to help you pack your things?”

Shen Man shook her head and turned to walk toward the living room. “You don’t need to worry,” she said as she walked. “I can find a place to live in one night.”

“It’s good that you have a plan.” Auntie He relaxed a little. Looking at Shen Man, she said with feeling, “If only Miss Lin were here. She definitely wouldn’t kick you out.”

Hearing the name Lin Shu, Shen Man’s heart skipped a beat. She paused for a moment before saying, “I’m going to my room to pack my things first.”

“Okay, just call me if you need help with anything,” Auntie He said.

Shen Man nodded and entered her room.

After scanning the room, she sat down at the desk.

She took her phone out of her bag and dialed Tian Yi’s number. “President Tian, I need to trouble you to find a house for me before five o’clock tomorrow.”

Hearing this, Tian Yi didn’t ask for a reason and said with a laugh, “I have an apartment near your school, Miss Shen. If you don’t mind, I’ll have someone go over and help you move tomorrow.”

“Then many thanks, President Tian,” Shen Man said with a light laugh, her tone full of gratitude.

“There’s no need to be so polite, Miss Shen. You are my benefactor3,” Tian Yi said with utmost sincerity.

Shen Man exchanged a few more pleasantries before hanging up the phone.

She opened a drawer, took out a watch that had been placed in the very back, let out a sneer, and threw it into the trash can.
