There’s a Meteor Shower

Maybe she’ll like it.

Shen Man put away her phone and slowly walked back.

A faint smile was on her face; she seemed to be in a good mood.

Seeing this, Xia Ke raised a delicate eyebrow, her eyes full of understanding, and asked with a smile, “Was that a call from Lin Shu?”

The smile on Shen Man’s lips deepened. She sat down, opened the book in front of her, and began to read intently.

Xia Ke teasingly ‘tsked’ twice, picking up a water cup from the side and taking a small sip.

The three of them continued to read quietly.

Time passed without them noticing, and soon it was three in the afternoon.

Feeling a bit of a cramp in her neck, Xia Ke leaned back against her chair to rub it and picked up her phone to casually browse information online.

Suddenly, her eyes lit up. She sat up straight and said excitedly in a low voice, “Ah Xu, Manman, there’s news saying that meteors will appear tonight.”

“Really?” Yin Ruxu asked in surprise. She leaned over to look at Xia Ke’s phone and smiled joyfully, “It’s real! Can we see it from the classroom here?”

“Doesn’t seem like it,” Xia Ke said, reading out the location mentioned in the news.

Shen Man kept her head down, concentrating on her book.

Her fingers turned the page; she wasn’t interested in this news.

“That’s a bit of a pity,” Yin Ruxu said with regret, gently rubbing Xia Ke’s shoulder. “It would be great if we could see a meteor shower.”

“Let’s go out and see it tonight, okay?” Xia Ke smiled dotingly.

Yin Ruxu immediately nodded happily.

Shen Man looked up.

Seeing the sweet scene of the two smiling at each other, a trace of envy suddenly arose in her heart.

She lowered her head and organized her notes.

“Manman, do you want to see the meteor shower?” Xia Ke asked cheerfully. “Why don’t we go together?”

“No, you two go ahead. I still have to study tonight,” Shen Man declined with a smile.

Xia Ke sighed, “Manman, how come you’re not interested in anything? You don’t follow celebrities, you don’t watch meteor showers, all you do is study all day. Won’t your university life be a bit boring like this?”

“Studying makes me feel fulfilled,” Shen Man said with a faint smile, then lowered her head to read her book.

Xia Ke looked at Yin Ruxu, giving her a helpless look.

Yin Ruxu chuckled and said in a low voice, “It’s quite nice for the two of us to go see it.”

As she spoke, she blushed and lowered her head.

Xia Ke’s heart was instantly melted by the cuteness. She happily searched for the route and laid out the plan for watching the meteor shower that night.

The sun slanted west, sinking little by little.

Xia Ke and Yin Ruxu got up and left.

Shen Man read for a while longer.

Looking up at her watch, she saw it was already six o’clock.

She packed her things and walked out of the library with her schoolbag on her back.

Just as she got in the car, her phone rang.

When Shen Man saw it was a call from Lin Shu, she immediately picked it up and asked with a smile, “Shushu, are you done? I’ll come pick you up.”

“We’re almost done shooting. You can come over,” Lin Shu said, a sense of fatigue in her voice.

“Was today very tiring?” Shen Man asked, her voice softening.

She fastened her seatbelt with one hand, a gentleness in her cool and clear eyes.

Hearing this, Lin Shu instantly perked up, venting to the phone about her day’s exhaustion. “I’m dead tired! We’re practically busier than they are.”

“So wedding photoshoots are this much trouble,” she said, her weary tone tinged with envy. “The photos that come out are really beautiful.”

“Marriage is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Naturally, the photos should be beautiful, leaving no regrets,” Shen Man said with a smile as she started the car.

Hearing the sound of the engine, Lin Shu immediately said, “I won’t talk to you anymore. Be careful driving on the road.”

After saying that, her face grew hot, and she hurriedly added, “There are mountain roads over here, don’t you dare damage my car.”

“Alright, I know,” Shen Man chuckled lightly, hung up the phone, and searched for the route.

Seeing a somewhat familiar place name appear on the map, she immediately zoomed in to check and remembered it was the place Xia Ke had mentioned for watching the meteor shower.

Shen Man exited the map and searched for news about the meteor shower.

She compared it twice and confirmed the location was correct.

The news said the meteor shower would arrive between nine and ten o’clock.

It would take two hours to drive from the school to the wedding photoshoot location.

There was a high probability they could see the meteor shower on the way back.

Shen Man smiled with satisfaction and drove towards the destination.

When she reached the meteor shower location, she stopped.

This was a small hill with some low-growing plants on its surface.

The top of the hill wasn’t high; it would only take a few minutes to walk up.

With the light from the roadside lamps, she could see the path under her feet clearly.

Shen Man found a relatively flat spot.

There was no tall grass around, and there was a large tree nearby, making it the most suitable place to watch the meteor shower.

She noted the location and returned to the car.

Taking out her phone, she took a picture of the hillside.

After doing all this, Shen Man continued driving.

At half-past eight, she arrived at the place Lin Shu had mentioned.

Shen Man didn’t get out of the car. She picked up her phone and dialed Lin Shu’s number.

After a moment, the call was answered, and a soft, gentle voice came through, “Lin Shu-jie is in the restroom.”

Shen Man recognized it as Ding Xi’s voice, acknowledged with an ‘en,’ and prepared to hang up.

Ding Xi added, “You can come up.”

“No need, just let Lin Shu know,” Shen Man said, pressing the hang-up button directly.

Although there was nothing ambiguous between her and Tan Kai, the fact that Tan Kai once liked her was a fact.

To some extent, she ought to avoid arousing suspicion.

Shen Man sat in the car and waited for five minutes.

The car window was knocked on, and a handsome face with a brilliant smile appeared.

“Shen Man, you’re already here, why not come in and sit for a bit?” Tan Kai asked with a loud laugh.

He was wearing a well-tailored suit, which added a bit of mature and steady temperament to his whole person, making him look even more handsome and charming.

Ding Xi stood behind him, a faint smile on her face.

“I’m here to pick up Shushu,” Shen Man revealed a standard smile, distant yet polite. “Where is Shushu?”

“Stop rushing me, I’m here,” Lin Shu’s voice came from behind. As she walked, she said to Tan Kai, “Alright, you two don’t need to see us off.”

After she finished speaking, she got into the car.

Ding Xi walked to the passenger side, bent down, looked at Shen Man, and said softly, “We hope you can all come to our wedding next month.”

Hearing this, Shen Man’s gaze shifted to Ding Xi.

Ding Xi tilted her head slightly, revealing a cute and sincere smile.

“Okay, we’ll all go,” Lin Shu said, lowering her head to fasten her seatbelt.

“En,” Shen Man responded.

Ding Xi smiled happily and waved at the two of them. “Be safe on the road.”

Shen Man suddenly felt that this girl, who was inconspicuous and seemed frail and quiet in the book, was far more brave and resilient than the book described.

Her avoidance of suspicion was no longer necessary.
