Making a Scene in Public
She is this kind of person
Shen Man walked closer.
Her gaze swept between the two of them before landing on Lin Shu, and she said with a smile, “Shushu, let’s go get our phones.”
“Okay.” Lin Shu stood up, shouldered her bag, and walked in the direction of the repair shop.
Shen Man looked at Yin Ruxu, and her meaning pointed to something1 as she said, “Shushu and I are heading back after we get our phones. You two take your time shopping.”
Upon hearing this, Xia Ke stole a glance at Yin Ruxu, her face slightly red as she pressed her lips together in a smile.
Yin Ruxu’s expression didn’t change as she said in a soft and gentle voice, “Alright, be safe on your way.”
Shen Man and Xia Ke exchanged a look and turned to leave.
She caught up to Lin Shu’s pace and said casually, “Shushu, what did you talk about with Yin Ruxu? She didn’t look too happy.”
“I just told her some truths.” Lin Shu replied with an indifferent expression, her voice laced with contempt.
Hearing this, Shen Man didn’t pursue the topic.
The two arrived at the phone repair shop; Lin Shu’s phone was already fixed.
She took the phone, inspected it carefully, then put it back in her bag and raised an eyebrow at Shen Man.
Shen Man dutifully paid.
“I’m hungry, let’s find a place to eat,” Lin Shu said happily, the corners of her mouth turning up.
“Okay.” Shen Man nodded and asked, “Do you want Chinese or Western food?”
Lin Shu thought for a moment and said, “Let’s have Western.”
Shen Man searched for nearby Western restaurants, chose one with good reviews, and showed the phone to Lin Shu. “Is this one okay?”
“Mhm,” Lin Shu grunted in agreement.
The two entered the Western restaurant.
Shen Man chose a small booth by the window.
Lin Shu sat down, placed her bag to the side, and said cheerfully, “It really is nice not having to look at a certain someone’s face while eating.”
Shen Man chuckled and passed the menu to Lin Shu. “Do you dislike Yin Ruxu that much?”
“A woman who is outside and inside not one2, who loves and adores vanity, don’t you hate people like that?” Lin Shu retorted angrily, the disdain on her face growing more pronounced. “I’d like to see when Xia Ke finally discovers her true colors.”
“Shushu, have you decided what to order?” Shen Man said, changing the subject with a smile.
“Not yet.” Lin Shu lowered her head and began to choose her dishes seriously.
Shen Man propped her cheek up with one hand, her fingers tapping lightly on the table.
Her gaze drifted unintentionally toward the door, where she saw two familiar figures.
“Are Xia Ke and Yin Ruxu here?” she said.
Lin Shu looked up, turned her head to look outside, and frowned in disgust when she saw Yin Ruxu.
She threw the menu on the table and said unhappily, “Let’s eat somewhere else.”
“No need,” Shen Man soothed in a gentle voice. “Xia Ke probably just wants to have a private meal with Yin Ruxu right now, so let’s not go over and join the commotion.”
Hearing this, Lin Shu pouted and reluctantly picked up the menu to continue looking.
After ordering, the two sat in silence.
Shen Man looked at the young woman’s sullen face and couldn’t help but chuckle. “Shushu, don’t mind them. Just pretend you didn’t see them.”
“I saw them, so I saw them. How can I pretend I didn’t?” Lin Shu said, puffed up with anger, unable to hide her emotions.
Shen Man stopped trying to persuade her and took the initiative to chat about the new styles they had seen that day.
Lin Shu was immediately drawn in by the topic, and her spirit and expression were flying and soaring3 as she discussed her opinions.
Just as the two were chatting happily, a loud ‘Clang!’ came from outside.
It sounded like a glass bottle shattering on the floor.
It was immediately followed by a shrill female voice. “I was wondering why I haven’t seen you around lately, you fox spirit4. So you got dumped, huh.”
“This is what you get for daring to steal my man,” the woman said with growing satisfaction.
Shen Man stood up and looked toward the source of the voice.
A gaudily dressed woman was standing in front of Xia Ke and Yin Ruxu’s table, holding a bottle of red wine, the smile on her face triumphant and twisted.
She smashed another bottle and yelled at Yin Ruxu, “What do you think you are? All you know is how to act pure. Everyone knows you’re just a slut…”
“Shut up!” Xia Ke shot to her feet, interrupting the woman with an angry expression, and said loudly, “Manager, could you please come over and handle this.”
The woman sneered. “You must be her classmate, right? Don’t be fooled by her innocent act. Her favorite thing to do is pretend to be weak and pitiful to deceive people, whether they’re men or women.”
“Don’t you dare talk about Ah Xu like that. Apologize to her,” Xia Ke said, staring furiously at the woman.
“Xiao Ke, forget it. She’s just drunk,” Yin Ruxu said, tugging on Xia Ke’s sleeve and trying to dissuade her in a small voice.
Hearing this, the woman’s expression turned even uglier.
Just as she was about to continue her tirade, the manager arrived with two waiters to stop her.
Seeing this, Yin Ruxu pulled Xia Ke toward the exit. “Let’s go eat somewhere else.”
“Ah Xu, she still hasn’t apologized to you,” Xia Ke said indignantly, following Yin Ruxu out.
The manager discussed the issue of compensation with the woman.
The onlookers all returned to their seats.
The restaurant returned to its peaceful state, as if the earlier disturbance had never happened.
Shen Man sat down.
The food they had ordered happened to arrive just then.
“This looks even more appetizing than in the pictures,” Lin Shu said happily and eagerly began to eat.
Shen Man watched the young woman eating with single-minded focus and couldn’t help but laugh.
Lin Shu had not an ounce of curiosity about what had just happened. She hadn’t even left her seat; while others were watching the commotion, she was looking down and playing on her phone.
“Shushu, do you think Xia Ke will see things a little more clearly after this?” Shen Man asked with great interest.
Lin Shu curled her lip in disdain. “With Yin Ruxu’s methods, she can deceive her with three words and two phrases5.”
“Just eat your food. Don’t mention them,” she said unhappily.
After dinner, the two drove back.
Shen Man parked the car downstairs and carried the things Lin Shu had bought upstairs.
Lin Shu followed behind, carrying only one bag.
When Auntie He saw the two enter, she asked with a smile, “Manman, Miss Lin, have you had dinner yet?”
“We’ve already eaten,” Shen Man said, placing the things she was holding on the living room sofa.
“Take them to my room,” Lin Shu immediately ordered, walking toward her room with her bag.
“Okay.” Shen Man picked them up again.
Auntie He helped carry some and asked, “Manman, didn’t you buy anything?”
“There wasn’t anything I wanted to buy. I was just accompanying them shopping today,” Shen Man said with a smile.
Hearing this, Lin Shu realized that Shen Man really hadn’t bought a single piece of clothing.
She stopped, looked back at Shen Man, and said haughtily, “You can pick any one of these things.”
Shen Man chuckled. “That’s not necessary.”
“I told you to pick one, so pick one!” Lin Shu’s face turned slightly red as she said loudly.
The smile in Shen Man’s eyes deepened. She casually picked up a bag. “Thank you, Shushu.”
Lin Shu proudly and coquettishly turned her head away and closed the bedroom door.
Shen Man returned to her room.
She gathered a change of clothes, preparing to take a shower.
Her phone rang. It was a call from Xia Ke.
