Yin and Xia Chapter 7

President Xia cares a great deal about you

News that the Xia Corporation’s film and television subsidiary had signed a new talent shot to the top of the hot search.

The name ‘Yin Ruxu’ hung on the trending list for an entire day.

For the next month, Yin Ruxu’s face could be seen in all the major entertainment headlines.

After more than a month of this online blitz, the once silent and unknown1 Yin Ruxu had exploded in popularity2 on the internet.

News broke that Yin Ruxu would be starring in a famous director’s new film.

Countless film and television Big V3 accounts edited clips praising her acting and beauty. Even a major brand under the Xia Corporation had confirmed Yin Ruxu as its new brand ambassador.

Yin Ruxu’s number of fans rose sharply, with people on every major platform promoting4 her work and her looks.

Even those who didn’t know her personally had heard her name.

“Yin-jie, this is the schedule for the week. Take a look,” Chen-jie said, handing a stack of documents to Yin Ruxu with a beaming smile.

Yin Ruxu took them and scanned the pages quickly. Pointing to one of the auditions, she asked, “Is Sang Yidan one of the main actors?”

“Yes. President Xia personally negotiated for this script. Everyone from the director to the screenwriters is famous in the industry, and she even specifically invited Film Queen Sang to support you,” Chen-jie said excitedly, her face alight with happiness. “As long as this drama is a hit, Yin-jie, you’ll be on the A-list.”5

“You urgently need a signature work6 to prove yourself right now.”

At these words, Yin Ruxu’s fingertips recoiled, and she gripped the edge of the paper tightly.

Chen-jie noticed the movement. The smile on her face faltered as she asked carefully, “Yin-jie, what’s wrong?”

“It’s nothing.” Yin Ruxu gave a faint smile, tucking away the gloom in her eyes.

She gazed at the sunlight outside, her expression gentle.

Standing beside her, Chen-jie couldn’t help but add, “Yin-jie, President Xia is so good to you. Not only is she using the best resources to promote you, but she also gave you a high-end apartment. This is the kind of good fortune so many people exhaust all the heart’s machinery7 trying to get and still fail. Right now, everyone in the company has eyes red with envy8 for you. You have to seize this opportunity.”

“Do you think Senior Sang would have eyes red with envy?” Yin Ruxu asked suddenly, her expression unreadable.

For a moment, Chen-jie couldn’t grasp her thoughts. She chose her words carefully. “Film Queen Sang’s family background is also quite good. She probably wouldn’t be envious of anyone.”

“Is that so?” Yin Ruxu’s lips curled, but you couldn’t see happiness or anger clearly in her eyes.

After finishing her magazine cover shoot for the afternoon, Yin Ruxu returned to the apartment.

She took a shower and was lying in bed when the apartment door opened.

Yin Ruxu immediately sat up, a soft smile on her face. She walked over and asked in a low voice, “President Xia, you’re back.”

Xia Ke responded with a cool grunt and walked straight to the bathroom.

Yin Ruxu’s eyes darkened,9 and she bit her lip lightly.

When the sound of running water in the bathroom stopped, she quickly rearranged her expression into a bright smile.

Xia Ke emerged in a bathrobe, her expression as cold as ever.

She sat on the edge of the bed, her ice-blue eyes holding no warmth.

Maintaining the smile on her face, Yin Ruxu slipped off her nightgown under that frigid gaze.

The lights in the room dimmed, and two snow-white bodies tangled together.

By the time the room was bright again, Xia Ke was already dressed and leaving without turning her head back.10

Yin Ruxu sat naked on the bed, tears falling silently down her face.

The outside world envied her for all the resources Xia Ke used to support her, but only she understood the sour and bitter grievance11 of it all.

Whenever they were alone, Xia Ke was always cold and cruel, unwilling to even speak an extra word.

The depth of Xia Ke’s past affection was the very measure of her current cruelty.

Yin Ruxu cried for a long time before wiping her tears away.

She collected herself and forced a smile.

The drama’s boot ceremony12 arrived quickly. The director, along with the main cast, attended the event.

Yin Ruxu and the other actors were waiting backstage for the ceremony to begin.

Sang Yidan was the last to arrive, followed by a vast and mighty entourage of people she had brought herself—a makeup artist, a costume designer, and multiple assistants. It was an impressive display.

“Since this is our first time meeting today, I’ve prepared a small gift for everyone. I hope you like it,” Sang Yidan said with a warm and friendly smile, personally handing out the gifts one by one.

It wasn’t just the actors; even some of the behind-the-scenes staff received a present.

Yin Ruxu watched calmly as people crowded around Sang Yidan, showering her with fawning praise.

After giving gifts to everyone else, Sang Yidan finally walked over to Yin Ruxu. She offered a practiced smile and said, “This one is for our female lead.”

“To go from an eighteenth-tier13 actress to the female number one in a famous director’s production in such a short time… Xiao Yin’s luck is really good. You met a good noble person.”14

Everyone present understood. The words seemed like congratulations, but they were laced with hidden sarcasm and contempt.15

Yin Ruxu accepted the gift with a smile, her expression one of pleasant surprise. “Thank you, Yidan-jie. I’ve acted with you in several productions before, and I’m very happy to have more scenes together this time.”

“I hope Yidan-jie will guide me,” she finished, her smile innocent and brilliant, as if she hadn’t heard the malice in the words at all.

Sang Yidan’s gaze turned cold for an instant before she quickly recovered. “Of course,” she said with a smile. “I’m also very happy to help a junior16 improve her acting skills.”

“With those words from Yidan-jie, I feel much more relieved,” Yin Ruxu said, sighing as if a heavy burden had been lifted. She smiled happily.

Seeing that both attempts at humiliation had failed, anger was rising in Sang Yidan’s heart, but she couldn’t let it show in front of everyone.

She sneered inwardly and turned to chat with the others.

A crowd gathered around Sang Yidan, making Yin Ruxu, who stood alone, look isolated and pitiful.

Yin Ruxu stood there quietly, not trying to join in the fun.17

The boot and ribbon-cutting ceremony began.

The crowd thronged around Sang Yidan as they went out, making Yin Ruxu, the actual lead, look more like a foil.18

The director led everyone through the boot ceremony.

When it was time for photos, Yin Ruxu, the female number one, stood off to the left.

Someone shoved her, and she stumbled and fell to the ground, a stark contrast to the group of people still standing.

The reporters present quickly pressed their shutters, capturing the dramatic moment.

Faced with a barrage of camera flashes, Yin Ruxu hurriedly covered her front with her hands.

She got to her feet on her own and faced the cameras with a perfect smile.

The ceremony finally ended.

Chen-jie hurried over with a jacket and draped it over Yin Ruxu’s shoulders, asking in a concerned whisper, “Yin-jie, are you okay?”

Yin Ruxu shook her head, her expression pure, good, and harmless.19

She said her goodbyes to everyone one by one before getting into the minivan20 to leave.

Once in the vehicle, Yin Ruxu lifted her skirt, revealing a knee that was already scraped red.21

Seeing it, Chen-jie rushed to get the first-aid kit from the van.

Yin Ruxu stopped her. “It’s just a small scratch. It doesn’t need medicine.”

“Yin-jie, you’ve broken the skin. It won’t look good if it leaves a scar,” Chen-jie urged worriedly.

Yin Ruxu shook her head, insisting on not using any medicine.

Chen-jie couldn’t understand her reasoning but had no choice but to let her be.

Back at the apartment, Yin Ruxu took off her dress and examined her injuries in the mirror.

Besides the broken skin on her knee, there was a distinct red mark on her fair arm.

Yin Ruxu pressed her lips together, her eyes flickering for a moment before she turned and went to the bathroom to shower.

When she came out wrapped in a bath towel, she saw Xia Ke sitting on the sofa.

“President Xia.” Yin Ruxu’s eyes lit up. She walked over happily and asked cautiously, “Have you had dinner?”

Xia Ke didn’t answer. Her gaze was fixed on the injuries. “What happened?” she asked coldly.

Yin Ruxu started, quickly covering the mark on her arm. She lowered her head and said softly, “I fell by accident.”

“And the reporters took pictures,” she added, her tone becoming flustered. “I’m afraid there will be a scandal22 about me falling tomorrow.”

“I’ll handle it,” Xia Ke said, standing up to leave. “Get those injuries treated as soon as possible, so the media doesn’t get a picture and make a big article out of it.”

“You’re not staying tonight?” Yin Ruxu asked timidly, her soft eyes full of hope.

Xia Ke glanced at her, then walked out the door without the slightest reluctance to part.23

Yin Ruxu stood alone in the room. She tilted her head back to look at the white lights, and her eyes grew moist.

She laughed, mocking herself, then fell onto the bed in disappointment, with no mind to care for her injuries.

As Xia Ke left, she called her assistant. “I want the photos from Miss Yin’s press conference today.”

“Right away, President Xia.”

The assistant sent the photos over quickly.

Sitting in her car, Xia Ke looked at the images of Yin Ruxu being ostracized, and immense anger rose in her heart.

She slammed the photos onto the car mat, suppressing her rage as she called the director. “Miss Yin is the female number one, so how does she look worse than a supporting role in front of the media? I invested so much money, and you let my person be utterly humiliated. Are you trying to tell me I don’t matter?”

“President Xia, please calm your anger,” the director said, quickly trying to placate her with a sycophantic tone, avoiding the important and focusing on the trivial.24 “It was the staff’s negligence. I’ll make absolutely sure Miss Yin isn’t harmed in any way again.”

“It’s probably just that everyone was too excited to see Film Queen Sang and overlooked Miss Yin for a moment,” the director added in a low voice.

Xia Ke instantly understood the implication.

She thought for a moment, then started the car and drove toward Sang Yidan’s residence.

Yin Ruxu lay on the bed, her fingers gently stroking her wound.

A wave of misery washed over her. She curled up helplessly, thinking back on better times.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

A flicker of joy ignited in Yin Ruxu’s heart, and she scrambled to her feet.

She ran happily to the door, but when she opened it and saw Chen-jie, she couldn’t hide the disappointment on her small face.

“Yin-jie, President Xia sent me to put medicine on your wounds,” Chen-jie said with a smile, stepping inside. She offered some comfort. “Yin-jie, President Xia really does care about you. Although she usually has that ‘strangers, do not approach’25 look, she takes anything related to you very seriously.”

“Is that so?” Yin Ruxu murmured, as if asking someone else, or perhaps herself, a mix of surprise, insecurity, and self-doubt she couldn’t hide.

“I’m telling you the truth,” Chen-jie said with a confident smile, taking out an ointment to apply to Yin Ruxu’s wound. “Otherwise, why would President Xia have called me over and specifically told me to buy good wound medicine?”

Hearing this, the corners of Yin Ruxu’s lips hooked up, and she laughed without realizing it.

She looked at the wound on her knee and didn’t feel any pain at all.
