Yin and Xia Chapter 5
This relationship is over.
Once Xia Ke left, only Yin Ruxu and Sang Yidan remained in the room.
Sang Yidan let out a soft laugh. “Xiao Ke is as simple as ever, completely unable to hide what’s on her mind. I can tell your relationship isn’t just that of classmates.”
Yin Ruxu saw the contempt on that arrogant face.
She lowered her gaze, twisting her fingers nervously. “Actually,” she said in a small voice, “Xiao Ke and I are lovers.”
Even though Sang Yidan had long suspected it, the answer still shocked her.
Her voice was incredulous, tinged with indignation. “Xiao Ke is a straight woman. How could she possibly like you?”
“And even if she did like women, she shouldn’t have chosen someone like you,” she added, her voice full of resentment.
Hearing the humiliation in those words, Yin Ruxu lifted her head, revealing a pair of moist, shimmering eyes.
She bit her lip and said softly, “I know I’m not good enough for Xiao Ke, but you can’t control matters of the heart. You and Xiao Ke are good friends, so you’ll surely wish us well, right?”
Sang Yidan’s chest tightened with anger. Her gaze sharpened as she stared at Yin Ruxu, scrutinizing her from head to toe.
After a long moment, she scoffed. “You’re quite something. I’ve heard a little about your exploits.”
At this, Yin Ruxu’s face went pale. She forced herself to remain steady. “Xiao Ke knows about it, too. She doesn’t care.”
“Is that so?” Sang Yidan let out a disdainful laugh. “You can tell yourself that lie if it makes you feel better.”
Yin Ruxu bit her lip, rendered speechless.
Sang Yidan smiled triumphantly and continued her attack. “You and Xiao Ke are not a good match. One day, when she gets tired of you, you’ll be thrown away just like you were before.”
“She won’t…” Yin Ruxu whispered in rebuttal, but even she wasn’t convinced by her own words.
“Xiao Ke told me you want to enter the performing arts circle1 and become a big star2,” Sang Yidan said, her voice dropping to a tempting murmur.
A flicker of light crossed Yin Ruxu’s eyes, but she said nothing.
“Go home and think it over carefully. Do you want to stand on the stage that is the focus of ten thousand eyes3, or do you want to be a plaything4 that can be casually discarded?” Sang Yidan’s voice was low and brimming with confidence. “Call me when you’ve made up your mind.”
With that, she casually tossed a business card onto the table.
Yin Ruxu stood frozen for a moment before picking up the card and clutching it tightly in her hand.
She opened the door and saw Xia Ke, and gave a gentle smile. “Xiao Ke, let’s go back.”
“Okay,” Xia Ke said, then looked at Sang Yidan. “We’re heading back to school. Let’s meet up another day.”
Sang Yidan nodded with a smile.
The two returned to their dorm room.
Yin Ruxu slipped the business card under her pillow. She looked at Xia Ke and chuckled softly. “Xiao Ke, I want to stand on the stage that is the focus of ten thousand eyes, to become the most dazzling star so you can see me with a single glance.”
“In my heart, Ah Xu is already the most dazzling star. No matter where you are, you’re the first person I see,” Xia Ke said gently, her pale blue eyes full of tenderness.
“Xiao Ke, you’re so good to me.” Yin Ruxu leaned against her, her gaze growing firm.
Xia Ke smiled, a little embarrassed. “I still feel like I’m not doing a good enough job. I haven’t even…”
Her face turned red as she spoke.
Yin Ruxu understood what she meant. She leaned up and kissed the corner of Xia Ke’s lips, saying shyly, “After we shower.”
“Really?” Xia Ke’s eyes lit up. She excitedly threw her arms around Yin Ruxu. “I’ve been studying the relevant knowledge recently,” she rushed to say. “I won’t hurt you.”
Yin Ruxu nodded with a light laugh.
After they had both showered, they lay down on Xia Ke’s bed.
Yin Ruxu could feel Xia Ke’s inexperience and timidness. She took the lead, guiding them through their first time being intimate together.
Xia Ke was too happy to sleep. She held Yin Ruxu, stealing kisses from time to time. “Ah Xu’s body is so soft, and you smell so sweet.”
Yin Ruxu’s face was flushed, but she didn’t pull away. Under the cover of darkness, she asked, “Will you get tired of me one day?”
“Of course not. I like Ah Xu the most,” Xia Ke said, pledging an oath by pointing to the dawn5.
Hearing this, a sweetness filled Yin Ruxu’s heart. “Xiao Ke,” she said, her voice soft but firm, “I’ve decided to pursue acting.”
“I can’t wait to see Ah Xu on screen,” Xia Ke said excitedly.
Yin Ruxu reached out, her movements gentle as she embraced Xia Ke. “I’m looking forward to that day, too.”
Perhaps only when I’m dazzling enough will I be qualified to stand by your side, she added silently, letting the darkness swallow the deep affection in her eyes.
This girl was too perfect. She had made Yin Ruxu fall completely, and now she wanted to possess her forever.
In the days that followed, Xia Ke noticed that Yin Ruxu was exceptionally busy.
She was often hiding in a corner, talking on the phone, a brilliant smile always on her face.
Even though Xia Ke knew the person on the other end was Sang Yidan, and that they were discussing acting-related matters, she still felt herself eating vinegar6.
“Xiao Ke, I’m going to the production team7 to audition8 today. If I’m lucky, I might get a good role,” Yin Ruxu said excitedly, her eyes filled with anticipation for the part.
“Ah Xu is so talented, you’ll definitely be chosen,” Xia Ke said encouragingly, suppressing the jealousy in her heart.
“Thank you.” Yin Ruxu smiled happily and planted a kiss on Xia Ke’s cheek.
She finished getting ready, slung her bag over her shoulder, and headed out.
When she arrived at the audition location, Yin Ruxu waited outside the door. There were many others auditioning, all of them young, beautiful girls.
Yin Ruxu waited for nearly four hours before it was finally her turn.
The interview process was over in just one minute.
Yin Ruxu walked out of the room and called Sang Yidan.
“What is it?” Sang Yidan asked, her flat tone carrying its usual air of superiority.
“Yidan-jie, my interview is over. I don’t know if I’ll be chosen,” Yin Ruxu said anxiously.
“Don’t worry, the role is yours,” Sang Yidan said nonchalantly. “I happen to be nearby. I’ll give you a ride back to school.”
“Okay, thank you, Yidan-jie.” Yin Ruxu felt relieved and went outside to wait.
She waited for almost an hour before Sang Yidan’s car finally appeared.
“Get in,” Sang Yidan said with a smile, showing no hint of apology for being late.
Yin Ruxu nodded obediently, not daring to express any dissatisfaction.
The car stopped near the school.
Yin Ruxu got out and quickly walked over to the front passenger seat window, putting on a well-behaved smile. “Yidan-jie, thank you for driving me back to school.”
Sang Yidan’s lips curved into a smile. She suddenly reached out, hooked an arm around Yin Ruxu’s neck, and pressed her red lips against the girl’s small face. “You’re welcome.”
The smile on Yin Ruxu’s face froze. Maintaining her obedient facade, she waved goodbye.
Once the car was gone, Yin Ruxu turned around and met a pair of disbelieving eyes.
Panic seized her heart. She subconsciously wiped the cheek where she had been kissed and ran over. “Xiao Ke,” she said in a small voice, “let me explain.”
“Talk!” Xia Ke’s face was grim, the single word practically squeezed from between her teeth.
“It’s not what you think between us. She suddenly leaned over and kissed me, I didn’t even have time to react…” Yin Ruxu said, looking aggrieved and pitiful9. She reached out to tug on Xia Ke’s sleeve. “Xiao Ke, please believe me…”
As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes, threatening to fall at any moment.
Normally, seeing this fragile, near-tears appearance would have softened Xia Ke’s heart and made her offer comfort.
But right now, these words of explanation were like sharp needles piercing her heart, making it painful to breathe.
“Am I supposed to believe that explanation?” Xia Ke’s eyes were red-rimmed, but her tone was unnervingly calm. “I saw her. That was Sang Yidan. You talk to her late into the night every day. You said you were going out to film, but you were actually going to see her, weren’t you…”
She paused, swallowing the bitter lump rising in her throat. “Every day, I watch you happily chatting with her on your phone. With a big star helping you, I imagine you’ll be able to achieve your dream of stardom very soon.”
“It’s not like that… it’s not…” Yin Ruxu shook her head, crying pitifully. “Xiao Ke, believe me, there’s nothing going on between us…”
Tears streamed down her face, dripping onto Xia Ke’s hand.
Xia Ke pressed her lips together, suppressing the pain in her heart. “You don’t have to say any more…” she said slowly.
As she spoke, she gently pried off the hand that was gripping her so tightly. “Now, you can pursue your dream of stardom without any distractions.”
Yin Ruxu’s palm was suddenly empty, and a panic she had never felt before surged through her.
She reached out, trying to grasp the person who was so close.
Suddenly, her phone rang. The caller ID read ‘Yidan-jie’.
Xia Ke stared at the name, a sarcastic smile touching her lips. “Aren’t you going to answer it?”
Yin Ruxu’s outstretched hand froze in mid-air. After a moment’s hesitation, she answered the phone. “Yidan-jie…”
Hearing those words, Xia Ke’s heart was enveloped by endless disappointment.
She turned away, tears falling silently.
Seeing this, Yin Ruxu wanted to chase after her.
“Come over for a minute,” the voice on the phone said. “I forgot to give you a gift.”
“Yidan-jie, can I get it tomorrow?” Yin Ruxu pleaded softly, suppressing the pain in her heart.
“I’m not free tomorrow,” the voice on the other end said, dropping lower. Beneath the laughter was a hard edge that wouldn’t take no for an answer.
Hesitation flickered in Yin Ruxu’s eyes.
She gazed at Xia Ke’s retreating back, bit her lip, and walked in the opposite direction.
“A small gift. I hope you like it,” Sang Yidan said with a triumphant look.
Yin Ruxu heard the sound beyond the strings10 in her words. She froze for only a second before recovering, accepting the gift with both hands. “Thank you, Yidan-jie,” she said gratefully.
Sang Yidan left, satisfied.
The gentle, obedient look in Yin Ruxu’s eyes instantly turned to ice. She tossed the gift into a nearby trash can and ran back to the dorm as fast as she could.
The dorm room door was open.
Shen Man and Xia Ke were both inside.
Yin Ruxu gasped for breath, trying to calm her racing heart.
She gently closed the door.
Creeak. The sound was very, very soft, but in the quiet dorm, it was like an explosion next to their ears.
Xia Ke looked back, her pale blue eyes devoid of any emotion.
She glanced over for just a second before turning away again.
Yin Ruxu bit her lip, a wronged expression appearing on her delicate face.
She walked over and said softly, “Xiao Ke, I want to talk to you alone.”
She deliberately emphasized the word ‘alone’, her eyes flicking toward Shen Man as she spoke.
Shen Man understood and looked at Xia Ke.
“If you have something to say, say it here,” Xia Ke said, looking directly at Yin Ruxu, her voice cold.
At her words, tears immediately welled up in Yin Ruxu’s eyes. She lowered her head, choking back a sob.
After a moment’s hesitation, she looked up at Xia Ke and said through her tears, “Xiao Ke, Yidan-jie just told me she was only joking. If you don’t believe me, you can go ask her…”
Xia Ke let out a cold laugh, her disappointment far outweighing her anger.
She looked intently at that little face, like pear blossoms bearing rain11, staring for a long time before giving a desolate smile. “If you hadn’t gone to see her just now, if you had chosen me, maybe I would have believed you one more time.”
“But it’s too late. From now on, there’s nothing between us.”
“Xiao Ke…” Yin Ruxu cried, shaking her head. Her body went limp, and she knelt on the floor. “You said we would always be together, that you would be good to me for a lifetime…”
“Are you breaking your promise now?” she asked, her eyes red, her expression fragile and pitiful.
Xia Ke lowered her gaze and slowly turned away.
She sat on the edge of her own bed. “Manman, you should head back first.”
“Okay,” Shen Man nodded. She walked out, closing the door behind her.
Only the two of them were left in the room.
Yin Ruxu looked up, her eyes swimming with tears.
She carefully reached out and took hold of Xia Ke’s fingers. “Xiao Ke, please believe me…”
“I’m going back in a few days,” Xia Ke said, staring straight ahead, her expression cold. “I’ll be finishing my studies abroad.”
“I wish you future prospects like brocade12.” As she said this, she gently but firmly pulled her hand away.
Yin Ruxu’s tears fell like rain. She began to cry, her heart broken and devastated13.
Xia Ke didn’t comfort her like she usually would. She packed her luggage with a blank expression.
“Xiao Ke, when are you leaving?” Yin Ruxu asked through her sobs.
Xia Ke’s hands paused for a second. “Next Saturday,” she replied coolly.
“I’ll see you off,” Yin Ruxu said hurriedly, looking at Xia Ke with hopeful eyes.
“No need.” Xia Ke’s refusal was icy as she continued packing.
Yin Ruxu wanted to help, but a cold glare from Xia Ke made her heart jump.
She bit her lip and stood anxiously to the side.
Once Xia Ke finished packing, she started to wheel a suitcase out the door.
Yin Ruxu rushed after her.
“Don’t follow me,” Xia Ke said indifferently.
Yin Ruxu’s heart felt like it was being sliced by a knife. Fat tears rolled down her cheeks.
“Will you come back?” she asked in a small voice.
Xia Ke didn’t answer, her departing figure showing no hesitation.
Yin Ruxu bit her lip hard, crying silently.
She stared blankly at that retreating back. Her soul lost, her spirit fallen14, she returned to the dorm.
Next came exam week15. On top of studying for exams, Yin Ruxu also had to go out for auditions. She was so busy she barely had time to eat properly.
There were a lot of auditions during this period.
Yin Ruxu knew in her heart that Sang Yidan was arranging them behind the scenes, but aside from being grateful, she couldn’t show any hint of dissatisfaction.
She tried her best to find time to see Xia Ke, but she could never find her.
The day of Xia Ke’s departure arrived quickly.
After finishing an audition, Yin Ruxu rushed to the airport.
She ran, looking around everywhere, until she spotted Shen Man. Her eyes lit up, and she sprinted over, asking breathlessly, “Shen Man, where’s Xiao Ke?”
Shen Man didn’t answer, her gaze icy.
Yin Ruxu knew she was in the wrong. She bit her lip and said quietly, “I know I let Xiao Ke down. I just want to see her off.”
Before she could finish, tears were already welling in her eyes.
Shen Man’s expression didn’t change. She turned and walked away.
“Shen Man, my feelings for Xiao Ke are real! No one has ever been so good to me, without any reservation16…” Yin Ruxu cried out earnestly, as if pouring out all the feelings in her heart.
Shen Man turned back, a trace of contempt in her eyes. “Is your so-called sincerity abandoning the person you like in the face of personal gain?”
Yin Ruxu was instantly struck dumb. She lowered her head, and a somber look crossed her delicate features.
She stared in the direction Xia Ke had left, her gaze gradually becoming determined, even faintly tinged with a kind of madness.
