Yin and Xia Chapter 3
From now on, you’re my girlfriend.
The gossip about Shao Qi changing his major had been buzzing around campus for nearly a month, but now the dust had finally settled.1
Xia Ke understood what it was: a silent protest against their arranged marriage.
Even though she didn’t like the arrangement herself, being rejected so mercilessly still left her feeling a little down.
“Ah Xu, I asked Shen Man and Lin Shu to go singing today. You should come too,” Xia Ke said, smiling.
Hearing Lin Shu’s name, Yin Ruxu’s expression soured. She didn’t really want to go.
“It’ll be fun with everyone!” Xia Ke urged, blinking her eyes pleadingly.
Yin Ruxu thought for a moment before nodding.
After their afternoon classes, the two of them headed to a KTV.2 Xia Ke had booked the most luxurious private room, with high-end decor and equipment.
When they arrived, Shen Man and Lin Shu weren’t there yet, so they started setting out drinks and snacks.
One of the microphones in the room wasn’t working right, so Yin Ruxu went to the front desk to exchange it.
She returned with the new microphone and pushed open the door. The first thing she saw was Lin Shu sitting on the sofa.
Her gaze shifted to the side, landing on Xia Ke and Shen Man standing together. They were very close, and she couldn’t tell what they were talking about, but the smile on Xia Ke’s face was radiant.
An inexplicable discomfort welled up in Yin Ruxu. She nudged the door with her elbow, making a sound.
Xia Ke heard the noise and turned. “Ah Xu,” she asked, smiling, “what song do you want to pick?”
“I’m fine with anything,” Yin Ruxu replied with a gentle smile. As she walked in, she asked, “Shen Man, you guys are here. Do you want anything to drink?”
“If I want something to drink, I have my own hands. I don’t need anyone meddling,” Lin Shu snorted.
At those words, Yin Ruxu lowered her head in embarrassment. She forced a smile and set down the microphone.
Seeing this, Xia Ke tried to smooth things over. “Ah Xu, just have a seat. Order whatever you guys want to eat.”
“Okay.” Yin Ruxu pressed her lips together and nodded obediently.
She sat on the sofa, her eyes fixed on Xia Ke and Shen Man.
“Manman, you’re being so sweet and considerate, just like you would with a girlfriend,” Xia Ke teased, laughing.
Before Shen Man could reply, Lin Shu shot Xia Ke a glare. “Don’t talk nonsense!” she snapped.
Yin Ruxu’s heart clenched. “What girlfriend?” she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
The smile on Xia Ke’s face froze. “It’s nothing,” she explained hastily. “You misheard.”
Yin Ruxu lowered her head, her fingers slowly lacing together.
The lights in the room suddenly dimmed, hiding the deep look in her eyes.
Xia Ke and Shen Man started a drinking competition. The two of them drank relentlessly until they were completely wasted, having finished nearly all the alcohol on the table.
Yin Ruxu grew worried. She took two key cards from her purse, placed them on the coffee table, and said to Lin Shu, “These are the rooms Xia Ke booked. You should help Shen Man get some rest.”
“I’ll take Xia Ke,” she added, getting up to help Xia Ke out the door.
“Manman, let’s keep drink—” Xia Ke mumbled, her drunken eyes hazy and blurred,3 as more than half her weight sagged against Yin Ruxu.
They were so close that every warm breath from Xia Ke’s nose ghosted across Yin Ruxu’s neck. Yin Ruxu’s neck tingled. She tilted her head slightly, trying to pull away. But as soon as she created a little space, Xia Ke leaned in again, her hot lips almost pressing against the delicate skin of her neck.
“Xiao Ke, try to stand up straight,” Yin Ruxu said softly, attempting to reason with a drunk person.
“Smells so good…” Xia Ke murmured, sniffing the air as a faint laugh rumbled in her throat.
Heat washed over Yin Ruxu’s face, turning it bright red.
“Ah Xu, your face is so red. It makes me want to take a bite,” Xia Ke whispered, laughing, her drunken words taking on an ambiguous tone.
Yin Ruxu’s heart skipped a beat. “You’re drunk,” she said, keeping her head down.
“I’m not drunk. I can still drink… Manman, you want more?” Xia Ke slurred nonsensically.
Yin Ruxu struggled but managed to get her into the room.
She sat on the bed, gazing at the face flushed from the alcohol. After a long moment, she reached out, her fingers gently tracing those rosy lips. The touch was soft, and a faint current of electricity sparked where her fingertip brushed against them.
Yin Ruxu snatched her hand back as if shocked, her heart racing.
Suddenly, the person on the bed opened her eyes. Her pale blue irises were as deep as a calm sea.
Yin Ruxu started, her body tensing involuntarily.
“Ah Xu, you’re so beautiful.” Xia Ke smiled, her eyes fixed on the person before her. As she spoke, she reached out, grabbed Yin Ruxu’s slender wrist, and with a gentle tug, pulled her into an embrace.
“Xiao Ke…” Yin Ruxu’s lips parted slightly, the two words barely a whisper.
Xia Ke laughed, rolling over to pin Yin Ruxu beneath her. She lowered her head, nuzzling against Yin Ruxu’s neck. “Ah Xu, you really do smell amazing.”
There was no space between them. Yin Ruxu could clearly feel the warmth radiating from the other woman’s body. It was a pleasant warmth, accompanied by a lovely scent.
Her heart was beating uncontrollably. She let Xia Ke sniff all over her like a little animal.
Her thin clothes slipped off without her noticing, revealing pale, fragrant shoulders and a delicate collarbone.
Xia Ke poked curiously at her collarbone. “Ah Xu, you’re so skinny,” she said with a laugh.
Yin Ruxu bit her lip, not answering. She clenched her fists tightly, then slowly allowed her body to relax.
Xia Ke explored everywhere with curiosity. Even though their bodies were built the same, she acted as if she could never get enough of playing with Yin Ruxu’s. A long time passed before she finally tired herself out and fell into a deep sleep.
Yin Ruxu let out a sigh of relief, her gaze resting on that sleeping face. She reached out a finger, tracing the beautiful features in the air. Her fingertip accidentally brushed against those soft lips. Her heart clenched. After a moment’s thought, she slowly leaned in and pressed a kiss there.
The morning sun filtered through a gap in the curtains, filling the room with a comfortable warmth.
Xia Ke opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was a lovely, peaceful sleeping face. Her hangover left her head spinning, her reactions sluggish. After watching for a moment, Xia Ke realized something was wrong.
Her gaze dropped. She saw the blanket covering them only to the waist, revealing stretches of bare, pale skin.
“Ah Xu, what’s going on?” Xia Ke shot up, glanced down under the covers, and discovered she was completely naked.
The movement beside her woke Yin Ruxu. She rubbed her eyes and said softly, “Xiao Ke, what’s wrong?”
“Why aren’t we wearing any clothes…” Xia Ke said, shocked. Her eyes fell on Yin Ruxu, and when she saw an ambiguous red mark, her expression turned to panic. “Ah Xu, last night we…”
“You were drunk. It’s okay,” Yin Ruxu said quietly, sitting up and pulling the blanket over herself. “I don’t blame you.”
She kept her head down, her long black hair hiding her expression. Her exposed back looked fragile and vulnerable.
Xia Ke’s mind went blank. She couldn’t think, just stared, unsure of what to say.
“I want to get dressed,” Yin Ruxu said, her voice laced with embarrassment.
Xia Ke snapped out of it and quickly ducked back under the covers. “Go ahead.”
Seeing that, a flicker of pain crossed Yin Ruxu’s eyes. She composed herself, quickly got dressed, and grabbed her bag to leave.
Hearing the door close, Xia Ke emerged from the blankets. Thinking about how she had just hidden away, she scrambled to get dressed and ran out to chase after Yin Ruxu.
She had just reached the hotel entrance when she saw Yin Ruxu getting into a car. Xia Ke was frustrated. She wanted to stop the car, but the moment she opened her mouth, she hesitated. She stood there for a moment, then turned and went back into the hotel.
Yin Ruxu took the car back to the university and opened the door to their dorm room. She collapsed heavily onto her bed, her eyes fixed on Xia Ke’s empty one.
She had never had thoughts about women before, but she hadn’t disliked what happened last night. Her deliberate seduction of Xia Ke, aside from that bit of scheming in her heart, seemed to be mixed with other feelings, too.
Yin Ruxu felt a wave of frustration.
She sat up, moved over to Xia Ke’s bed, and lay down. She felt completely drained of energy and had no appetite for lunch. The dorm room was quiet. Without the girl who was always laughing, everything felt cold and empty.
Yin Ruxu closed her eyes, waiting for time to pass.
Outside, the sky darkened, making the room feel even more desolate.
Yin Ruxu picked up her phone and stared at Xia Ke’s profile picture, wanting to send a message. But when her finger hovered over the screen, she had no idea what to say.
As she hesitated, the door opened.
Hearing the sound, Yin Ruxu sat up quickly, her gaze snapping to the doorway.
Their gazes met—four eyes facing each other.4
Xia Ke broke into a brilliant smile and gently closed the door.
“Xiao Ke, you’re back,” Yin Ruxu said softly. Only after the words were out did she realize they were tinged with a sense of grievance.
Xia Ke smiled, walked over, and hugged Yin Ruxu. “Ah Xu,” she said seriously, “I’ve thought it through. We can’t pretend yesterday never happened.”
“Even though I was drunk, I should still take responsibility. From now on, you’re my girlfriend.”
Hearing this, Yin Ruxu froze, her heart filled with a surprised joy that was mixed with a touch of panic. She blinked, a beautiful smile gracing her lips. “Okay.”
“Ah Xu, we’re a couple now!” Xia Ke said excitedly, her pale blue eyes glistening with spirit and color.5 As she spoke, she planted a firm kiss on Yin Ruxu’s face. “Ah Xu’s cheeks are so soft and sweet.”
Yin Ruxu laughed softly, a shy blush coloring her pale cheeks. The frustration in her heart was swept clean in one go,6 replaced by a sweet sense of happiness from the kiss.
She looked at Xia Ke and asked, “Are you serious?”
“Of course!” Xia Ke answered without hesitation, her eyes shining with a bright light. “I mean it.”
Yin Ruxu lowered her head slightly, avoiding that dazzling gaze. She was happy that everything had been so simple, but also worried that one day this relationship would end. She was long accustomed to trading her beauty for a life of wealth, yet this was the only time she had ever felt uneasy about it.
“Ah Xu, I’ve never been in a relationship before. If I do anything wrong, just tell me, and I promise I’ll change,” Xia Ke said softly, her eyes fixed on Yin Ruxu. That gaze was sincere and moving, filled with the pure, intense passion unique to someone her age.
“You’re great,” Yin Ruxu said with a light laugh, her gaze drifting toward something in the distance.
She carefully leaned her head on Xia Ke’s shoulder, closed her eyes, and savored this fleeting moment of happiness.
