Politely Refusing Good Intentions
The Things She Decides Will Not Be Changed
Most employees had a lazy attitude toward the new supervisor.
They stood around sloppily, not taking Shen Man seriously.
Shen Man knew exactly what these people were thinking.
Back when she was the President at Tian Yi’s company, the contempt and disdain from the senior executives were even worse than this, but in the end, she whipped them all into shape.
Shen Man stood up, her expression serious.
Her dark eyes swept over every face as she called out each of their names.
Everyone was instantly stunned. They looked at each other in blank dismay1 for a moment, their expressions turning much more earnest.
“My name is Shen Man. I’ll be working with all of you from now on, so I look forward to your guidance,” she said with a standard smile, her tone polite and courteous.
Some people bowed in response, while others remained standing arrogantly.
Shen Man wasn’t in a hurry. She spoke to them with an approachable attitude for ten minutes.
At exactly ten-thirty, she ended the meeting.
“You’re Chen Xuan, right? Get me the onboarding resumes and the last six months of performance reviews for everyone here,” Shen Man said.
“Yes, Manager Shen,” Chen Xuan replied respectfully.
A short while later, Chen Xuan returned with a bitter little look on her face.
She placed the performance reviews on Shen Man’s desk and said in a small voice, “The Human Resources Department won’t give me the onboarding resumes.”
“I see,” Shen Man said, her expression unchanging. She wasn’t surprised by this outcome.
“Manager Shen, is there anything else?” Chen Xuan asked politely.
“Go on and get back to your work. If I have any questions, I’ll find you,” Shen Man said, her low voice carrying a natural air of authority.
“Okay.” Chen Xuan nodded quickly and returned to her seat.
A colleague next to her leaned over and said with dissatisfaction, “Why are you sucking up to her so much? Look at how arrogant she is. She’ll probably be gone in two days.”
“Don’t you think she has a powerful presence? And she’s really capable. More importantly, she’s not afraid of Director Lin at all,” Chen Xuan whispered, her eyes filled with admiration by the last sentence.
Her colleague pursed her lips, disdain filling her face.
Just as Chen Xuan was about to try and persuade her, a message popped up on her computer.
Surprise showed on her face after she read it. She nudged her colleague and whispered, “Manager Shen is seriously amazing. Even the Human Resources Department is giving her face.”2
Her colleague didn’t understand.
Chen Xuan couldn’t say much more, so she closed the message and got up to get the files from HR.
Once Shen Man received the files, she carefully reviewed everyone’s resume.
She sorted each resume into categories, making corresponding marks on them with a red pen.
In the afternoon, Shen Man met with each person one by one, accurately pointing out the problems in their work.
Surprised and scared, the employees no longer dared to be negligent and became much more disciplined.
When it was time to get off work, many of them took the initiative to say goodbye to Shen Man.
She smiled and responded to each one before being the last to leave the office.
Just as she reached the underground garage, her phone rang. It was Lin Shu.
Shen Man answered, speaking as she walked, “Shushu, are you done with work?”
“I have to work overtime today, so you can head back first,” Lin Shu said. She paused, then asked a bit awkwardly, “How was work today? Did anyone give you a hard time?”
“Everyone was very easy to get along with and actively cooperated with my work,” Shen Man replied with a laugh, her voice light and cheerful.
Lin Shu frowned, not quite believing her.
After a moment, she said, “If you run into any trouble, you can tell me. I’ll have people assist you with any problems you encounter at work.”
“Okay, thank you, Director Lin. I’ve got to go home and cook now,” Shen Man said with a light chuckle, her tone teasing.
Hearing the amusement in her voice, Lin Shu felt like she had worried for nothing.
Her expression tightened, and she said in a proud and shy manner, “Then I’ll have to trouble Manager Shen.”
“It’s no trouble,” Shen Man said, unable to stop laughing.
Lin Shu’s face flushed red. She mumbled a few words and hung up.
Shen Man got into her car. Just as she fastened her seatbelt, her phone rang again.
She picked it up and saw it was a call from Wen Lan. She thought for a moment before answering, asking with a smile, “Wen Lan, what made you suddenly think to call me?”
“President Shen, do you have time for dinner tonight?” Wen Lan asked, her tone almost pleading.
“I’ve already resigned. Just call me Shen Man,” she said politely, her formulaic tone carrying a trace of coldness.
“Miss Shen, are you free tonight?” Wen Lan asked tentatively, her words full of respect.
Shen Man lowered her eyes, thought for a moment, and then smiled. “Where?”
Wen Lan was overjoyed and quickly gave her the address.
“Alright. I’ll skip dinner, but we can chat for twenty minutes,” Shen Man said in a tone that left no room for negotiation.
“Okay, okay! I’ll wait for you here,” Wen Lan said hurriedly, nodding repeatedly.
Shen Man drove to the agreed-upon location.
When she pushed open the door to the private room, the first person she saw was Ni Shuang, sitting at an angle and talking on the phone, a smile covering her charming face.
“Shen-jiejie, you’re here!” Ni Shuang exclaimed loudly, an exaggerated look of surprise on her face as she hastily hung up.
“Where’s Wen Lan?” Shen Man asked with a light smile as she walked closer. “And what are you doing here?”
“She stepped out to take a call. She should be back any second,” Ni Shuang said with a smile. A pair of enchanting eyes sized Shen Man up and down before she deliberately lowered her voice. “Shen-jiejie, you’re really incredible, actually managing to win over the Chairwoman of the Lin Corporation.”
“Thank you for the compliment,” Shen Man replied faintly, ignoring the teasing in her words.
Just as she finished speaking, Wen Lan walked in from outside, followed by two other people.
It was Tian Yi and Tian Meiying.
Shen Man wasn’t surprised. She stood up and greeted them with a smile. “Director Tian, have you been well recently?”
“I’m alright,” Tian Yi replied with a smile, though fatigue was visible on his face. He sat down and said, “Miss Shen, I specifically invited you here today because there’s something I want to say to you.”
Shen Man nodded with a smile.
Seeing this, Wen Lan pulled Ni Shuang out of the room.
Only the three of them remained.
Shen Man glanced at Tian Meiying, a hint of coldness flashing in her eyes, before saying with a polite smile, “I know why Director Tian is here today. I’ve already found a new job, so I appreciate the kind thought.”
Hearing this, Tian Yi immediately grew anxious. “Miss Shen, Meiying is still a child,” he said hurriedly. “She doesn’t know any better. Please, forgive her this one time.”
“Director Tian, she’s an adult, not a child anymore. She needs to learn to take responsibility for her own actions,” Shen Man said coldly.
Tian Yi quickly pulled Tian Meiying into a bow and said in a scolding tone, “Hurry up and apologize to Miss Shen.”
“Shen-jiejie, I’m sorry. I was spouting nonsense that day. Please don’t take it to heart,” Tian Meiying apologized pitifully, her eyes welling up with tears.
Shen Man was unmoved, watching the two of them with cold eyes.
She glanced at her watch and said in an indifferent tone, “There are ten minutes left.”
“Miss Shen, the company really can’t go on without you. I’m kneeling, I’m begging you to come back,” Tian Yi said, dropping to his knees with a thud, completely abandoning his dignity.
“Director Tian, you don’t have to do this. The things I decide will not be changed,” Shen Man said, her attitude firm. “Instead of trying to get me to come back, you should think about whether you’ve misplaced your trust in someone.”
“This…” Tian Yi’s expression became troubled. He looked at Tian Meiying, momentarily at a loss for words.
After a moment, he said, “Meiying has matured a lot recently. Miss Shen, can you please give her a chance?”
“Shen-jiejie, I really know I was wrong. In the days you’ve been gone, my uncle has aged so much from dealing with company affairs,” Tian Meiying added, tears streaming down her face. “As long as you come back, I promise I’ll learn from you properly. I’ll let you be in charge of everything.”
“I don’t want to see them working so hard every day. I want to lighten their burden so they can enjoy their later years.”
“Director Tian, I’m truly sorry, but right now I’m powerless to help,” Shen Man said apologetically, though her resolute attitude never wavered.
She looked at Tian Meiying and said coldly, “You probably don’t know this, but I built this company with my own two hands. You once told me with such confidence that you would make the company better and better, so from now on, it’s all up to you.”
“I…” Tian Meiying was stunned.
Without waiting for them to react, Shen Man stood up. “Time’s up. I should be going.”
With that, she walked straight out.
Wen Lan and Ni Shuang were standing at the door.
Seeing Shen Man’s cold expression, Ni Shuang said with a grin, “Shen-jiejie, don’t be in such a hurry to leave. Let’s have dinner together. Lin Shu is on her way over.”
Hearing that last sentence, the look of refusal on Shen Man’s face vanished. She smiled. “When did you invite Shushu?”
“Let me think… right when you walked in,” Ni Shuang said, giving her a flirtatious wink.
“Miss Shen, how did the talk go?” Wen Lan asked carefully.
“Director Tian can’t bear to part with his precious treasure. If this continues, she’ll run that company into the ground sooner or later,” Shen Man said coldly.
“Darling, you should hurry up and resign. I’ll support you,” Ni Shuang said, leaning over to affectionately link arms with Wen Lan.
After speaking, she planted a kiss on Wen Lan’s cheek.
Wen Lan was startled and subconsciously glanced at Shen Man.
Shen Man’s expression didn’t change as she said with a light smile, “Let’s go. We can order first.”
“What are you so shy for? Your President Shen already has a girlfriend,” Ni Shuang whispered.
Hearing this, Wen Lan asked in surprise, “Who is it?”
“You’ll find out in a bit,” Ni Shuang said, blinking mysteriously.
Wen Lan furrowed her brow. After thinking for a moment, her face lit up with realization. “Don’t tell me it’s Miss Lin?” she asked, shocked.
“That’s right! My darling is so smart, you guessed it right away,” Ni Shuang said, planting a loud mwah on Wen Lan’s cheek.
Wen Lan immediately blushed. “Don’t be like that,” she said in a small voice. “There are other people here.”
“What’s there to be afraid of? She’s President Shen now,” Ni Shuang said with a hint of jealousy.
Wen Lan couldn’t win against her, so she wisely fell silent.
Shen Man walked ahead, hearing everything the two behind her were doing.
Ni Shuang’s behavior is like she’s trying to declare her sovereignty over Wen Lan to me.
The three of them arrived at the restaurant.
Shen Man sat down and passed the menu over. “You two order first.”
“Miss Shen, you should order first. We’re fine with anything,” Wen Lan said politely.
“Shen-jiejie already said we should order first,” Ni Shuang said, taking the menu without any hesitation. She leaned intimately against Wen Lan, enthusiastically choosing dishes.
Wen Lan’s face was flushed as she nodded in agreement from time to time.
Shen Man looked outside, a leisurely smile playing on her lips.
After the two of them finished ordering, she ordered a few of Lin Shu’s favorite dishes.
