Ha, Karma! – Chapter 89

Their Eyes Are Dirty!

Ji Congyun simply couldn’t believe it.

Her always perfect disguise had actually been seen through by a twenty-three-year-old little brat1 who just casually bluffed!

This was simply too outrageous!

But even though her identity had been exposed, she still maintained Fu Lianxue’s appearance.

Wearing Fu Lianxue’s face, she looked at Chu Zhaoqiu, her expression sinister and ruthless. “I really didn’t expect my disguise would fall apart at the hands of a child like you…”

Chu Zhaoqiu stood tall and graceful, a horsetail whisk resting in the crook of her arm, completely composed. “There’s nothing unexpected about it. Anything is possible.”

For example, she knew the names of two Charm Demons.

And for another example, this just happened to be a Charm Demon, and it just happened to be the other Charm Demon she knew—it was practically a giveaway question.

The moment she saw the fake Fu Lianxue, her memory suddenly flashed back to that night a thousand years ago.

Only back then, she had been foolish, unable to distinguish her own feelings for Fu Lianxue, and even unable to distinguish the person she liked.

Now it was different. She could recognize the one she loved at a glance and wouldn’t let Fu Lianxue down again.

At the same time, she was very curious: could this one before her be the Yao from that night?

“Ji Congyun, this shouldn’t be our first meeting, right?”

She asked directly, but the Charm Demon opposite her had no desire to answer.

“Why don’t you take a guess?”

“My guess is no, this is the second time you’ve appeared before me looking like Lianxue.”

After hearing this, Ji Congyun smiled and said she didn’t know, didn’t understand what she was talking about, giving off a strong impression of protesting too much.2

She wouldn’t admit it, and Chu Zhaoqiu had no proof that she was the Yao from that night. Moreover, seeing her use Fu Lianxue’s appearance while making expressions so unlike Fu Lianxue, Chu Zhaoqiu instantly felt indignant on Fu Lianxue’s behalf.

Was Lianxue’s appearance and name something others could just use and ruin whenever they pleased?

“Ji Congyun, why are you still using Lianxue’s appearance? Why haven’t you changed back to your own form?”

Ji Congyun wasn’t stupid either.

Change back?

Why should she change back to her own appearance? To make it convenient for her to remember?

She curled her lips into a wicked smile. “Why haven’t I changed back? Naturally, it’s to cater to Young Family Head Chu’s preferences~

“What’s wrong? Could it be—you don’t like it?!”

As her voice fell, her purple pupils instantly locked onto Chu Zhaoqiu. A dark, vicious gaze, like a viper striking, shot towards her, attempting to pierce her Shenshi3 and occupy her mind.

But it was coldly blocked by an invisible wall.

Chu Zhaoqiu remained standing where she was, her mind clear, her gaze bright.

“Some tricks don’t work twice.”

The words had just left her mouth when a black dagger suddenly tore through the air towards her!

Chu Zhaoqiu’s expression didn’t change. The Fuchen4 in her hand spun lightly, tracing a white arc in mid-air, deftly redirecting the incoming dagger with a shua sound, sending it striking the ground.

Clang! The black dagger embedded itself in the earth, instantly dissolving into a wisp of black smoke and vanishing.

Chu Zhaoqiu still stood in the same spot, her feet not having moved an inch.

The calmer she was, the more displeased Ji Congyun became.

She didn’t like seeing prey that remained unmoved; it wasn’t fun at all.

“Chu Zhaoqiu, why aren’t you moving? Aren’t you Demon Hunters always excited to see Yao?”

“That’s a stereotype.”

“Then what are you waiting for?”

“I’m determining what exactly you intend to do.”

Ji Congyun, a Yao she didn’t know, why would she take on Fu Lianxue’s appearance to approach her, even attacking her?

Was she really the Yao who drove a wedge between her and Fu Lianxue a thousand years ago?

If it really was her, why did she harbor such immense resentment towards them, even wanting to use her hand to kill Fu Lianxue?

Ji Congyun, like her true face, sparked immense curiosity.

Chu Zhaoqiu pondered for a moment, combining this with what Fu Lianxue had said, and reached an initial conclusion: “You don’t like Lianxue.”

“Why don’t you like her?”

Ji Congyun raised an eyebrow. “Huh? Did I say I don’t like her?”

Chu Zhaoqiu stated, “If you liked her, you wouldn’t take on her appearance to deceive me.”

Would someone who liked another person use their name and appearance to do whatever they pleased?

She couldn’t understand that kind of ‘like’; it didn’t deserve to be called ‘like’.

Ji Congyun started laughing, using a face that wasn’t hers, laughing wildly and unrestrainedly. “Yes, I don’t like her. I absolutely detest her.”

Chu Zhaoqiu frowned. “Why?”

She couldn’t think of anything detestable about her girlfriend.

Her Lianxue was clearly so lovely, so likable.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.5 In her heart, Fu Lianxue deserved to be liked by the entire world.

Ji Congyun gave her an answer.

An answer she couldn’t comprehend—

“Because she’s disobedient.”

Ji Congyun, wearing Fu Lianxue’s face, looked at Fu Lianxue’s most beloved person, yet her words were accusations against Fu Lianxue:

“She’s too disobedient.

“Her kin, her kindhearted kin, clearly advised her not to associate with humans. Humans are all liars, liars who only want to obtain our Longevity Flowers, but she wouldn’t listen.

“Between her kin and humans, she actually chose the foolish humans!

“Aiya, that’s just too disappointing. Tell me, as this kindhearted kin, how could I possibly like her?”

After hearing Ji Congyun’s words, Chu Zhaoqiu’s brows furrowed deeply.

Then, she couldn’t help but ask, “You like Lianxue?”

Ji Congyun paused. “What did you say?”

Chu Zhaoqiu repeated, “Do you like Lianxue?”

Ji Congyun couldn’t comprehend it. “Where did you get such an absurd conclusion?”

Chu Zhaoqiu reasoned logically, “Because your words sound very much like you’re angry she didn’t choose you, but chose me instead.”

Love turning to hate—such things were all too common in this world.

So… it wasn’t impossible?

However, upon hearing her words, Ji Congyun rolled her eyes dramatically, clearly disdainful of this conclusion.

“Ridiculous! This is simply hilarious!

“Is there nothing else in the human world besides love? You people truly are narrow-minded and boring.”

Facing her disdain, Chu Zhaoqiu remained quite composed, smiling faintly. “Of course, there are other things in the human world, and love isn’t narrow-minded or boring either.

“Moreover, it’s not just humans; Yao also cannot escape love, cannot escape the Seven Emotions and Six Desires.

“This world is ever-changing and dazzlingly colorful precisely because it was born amidst these emotions and desires.”

Chu Zhaoqiu looked at her. “I was merely offering one hypothesis.”

“There’s no need to offer such hypotheses again,” Ji Congyun said mockingly. “Hearing them only makes one laugh.”

Fu Lianxue was worthy of her affection?

Wasn’t that just giving Fu Lianxue undeserved credit?6

As expected of the person Fu Lianxue fancied, just as foolish as Fu Lianxue herself!

Hearing this, Chu Zhaoqiu said softly, “Then you’re just purely… twisted.”

If it wasn’t love, and the two weren’t close, then it was likely a warped desire for control.

Ji Congyun didn’t permit others to make choices or act against her will, even if those matters had nothing to do with her.

And she disliked humans, detesting the race from the bottom of her heart.

So when a member of her own kind, whom she attempted to control, ignored her warnings and resolutely chose the humans she despised, that hatred for humans naturally spread to this kinswoman—that is, Fu Lianxue.

Yet, Fu Lianxue was inherently rebellious, hated being constrained, and came and went freely, uncontrollable by anyone.

Their relationship thus deteriorated further, neither submitting to the other.

Fortunately, Fu Lianxue had also become a Great Yao capable of standing on her own, so there was no need to worry about being shackled by her.

Chu Zhaoqiu’s lips parted, her expression serious, her tone carrying a hint of displeasure. “You just want Lianxue to become your obedient appendage.”

That was a living individual, with flesh, blood, and thoughts.

She could run through the grasslands like a free leopard, or spread her wings and soar high like an eagle conquering the blue sky.

Their Lianxue was free.

But Ji Congyun wanted her to become a docile, obedient sheep.

A warped, terrifying, and utterly self-centered idea.

After hearing this, Ji Congyun felt no shame, but rather pride, even smiling as she asked, “Shouldn’t she?”

Chu Zhaoqiu was taken aback. “What?”

Ji Congyun said, “Becoming an appendage of a god, shouldn’t that be expected?

“If you don’t believe in the god, how will the god bless you?

“If you don’t listen to the god’s words, how will the god like you?”

She started laughing, her eyes filled with excitement, anticipation, and also a pathological desire for control.

She liked the feeling of control, being high and mighty.

Otherwise, why would she want to become a god?

Watching the myriad of living beings prostrate themselves in worship before her—now that was interesting.

Chu Zhaoqiu instantly became solemn.

As Ji Congyun spoke these words, she faintly saw the birth of an evil god.

Ji Congyun achieving godhood would absolutely not be a good thing for humanity, nor likely for the Yao race either, and she hadn’t become a god yet…

Ji Congyun’s gaze sharpened.

In her field of vision, the person who had been standing still suddenly raised her Fuchen and flashed towards her, attacking!

Hands rose and fell, revealing only flashes of silver light.

Clang! Ji Congyun blocked the descending Fuchen with the short blade in her hand.

Their eyes met, colliding with the fiercest hostility.

“Ji Congyun, I won’t let you harm Lianxue, nor will I let you become a god.”

“Oh? Just you?”

“Yes. Just me.”

Accompanied by resolute and certain words, Chu Zhaoqiu’s fierce attacks came one after another, each move clean and decisive.

Ji Congyun adeptly balanced offense and defense while advancing and retreating, not falling behind.

The human and the Yao fought back and forth, neither gaining the upper hand.

Ji Congyun even leisurely remarked, “Don’t you like Fu Lianxue? How can you bear to strike this face? Seems like you don’t love her that much after all.”

Chu Zhaoqiu didn’t fall for this goading tactic at all.

“Not just anyone can become her by putting on her appearance.”

She loved Fu Lianxue, so she couldn’t bear to strike her, but the person wearing her appearance wasn’t her.

Easily impersonated, easily replaced—if her Lianxue found out about this, she would be angry.

She had already disappointed her once in this matter; she absolutely would not disappoint her a second time!

“Ji Congyun, let me see your true face—”

The Fuchen whipped out, thunder and fierce wind sweeping past with imposing momentum.7

Ji Congyun dodged sideways, only for a palm wind8 to follow right behind!

She immediately flipped backward, instantly increasing the distance between them.

Chu Zhaoqiu saw her suddenly lower her head and stand motionless.

After two seconds, Ji Congyun raised a hand to cover her face, muffled laughter coming from beneath her palm.

The laughter grew clearer, happier, even bordering on excited.

She lifted her face again.

It was another beautiful, delicate face, possessing more maturity than Fu Lianxue’s but less vibrant beauty—a face belonging only to Ji Congyun.

Chu Zhaoqiu saw this face give her a satisfied smile and heard a voice that didn’t belong to Fu Lianxue say, “Good, very good. You’re much stronger than you were thousands of years ago… Chu Zhaoqiu, only like this are you worthy of being used by me!”

Chu Zhaoqiu keenly sensed that her killing intent had intensified.

At the same time, she faintly sensed something else.

Wuchang Mountain, the night a thousand years ago that led to her separation from Fu Lianxue—the two surged into her mind like waves.

Just then, a flash of purple light streaked through, forcefully entering the fray, heading straight for Ji Congyun.

Chu Zhaoqiu looked towards the direction the purple light came from—Fu Lianxue was back.

The real Fu Lianxue was walking towards them, rolling up her sleeves, then reliably stepped in front of her girlfriend, her brow furrowed with hostility and disgust towards Ji Congyun.

“You, surnamed Ji, what are you trying to pull now? I’m warning you, stop acting crazy in front of my girlfriend!”

Ji Congyun glanced at them, scoffing, “What’s your rush? Afraid I’ll eat her?”

Then she shot Chu Zhaoqiu a flirtatious wink and blew a kiss. “It was quite pleasant chatting with you today. See you~”

With that, she quickly transformed into wind and departed while they weren’t paying attention.

Discretion is the better part of valor.9

She wasn’t foolish enough to fight both of them simultaneously.

Fu Lianxue stared blankly as her sworn enemy winked and blew a kiss at her girlfriend: “…”

She turned, grabbed her girlfriend’s hand, and hurriedly pulled her towards the elevator. “Let’s go! We need to get home and wash our eyes, quick!”

They saw that Ji woman wink flirtatiously; their eyes were dirty!
