Ha, Karma! – Chapter 7

I won’t let you have it easy!

Fu Lianxue safely arrived home.

She first took a shower, then flopped onto the couch, a smile still on her face, clearly satisfied with the “mischief” she had done in Chu Zhaoqiu’s room.

She would do this even if she lived to be thirty thousand years old.

When causing trouble, she didn’t care about age or the size of the matter, as long as it annoyed the other person.

She recalled Chu Zhaoqiu’s reaction.

So composed, so calm, and even accommodating, as if it wouldn’t matter even if she had torn apart her room…

Moreover, Chu Zhaoqiu still had that enticing fragrance, so fragrant that she couldn’t ignore it.

Realizing this, Fu Lianxue’s screen-scrolling motion paused, and she was completely confused.

Chu Zhaoqiu still liked her?

What did this mean?

Hadn’t Chu Zhaoqiu thought about giving up on liking her?

Why?

Was it because she said she wouldn’t kill her for now, giving her the wrong impression that she was easy to talk to, or that she had a soft heart?

Fu Lianxue placed her phone on her chest, deep in thought, increasingly feeling that her previous line of thinking was wrong.

“Give an inch and they’ll take a mile” [idiom meaning taking advantage of kindness], Chu Zhaoqiu shouldn’t be that foolish.

Perhaps she was considering giving up, but just couldn’t control her heart yet, so after some time, she wouldn’t smell that fragrance on her anymore.

People are most easily tripped up by matters of the heart [romantic feelings and love].

Unlike her, who was free and unrestrained, doing whatever she wanted.

Fu Lianxue picked up her phone again, the screen’s light falling into her eyes, turning into a cunning gleam.

She said she would cause trouble for Chu Zhaoqiu, and she definitely would.

Her clear black and white eyes rolled mischievously.

She was thinking about what kind of trouble she should cause for Chu Zhaoqiu.

The next second, inspiration struck, and a wicked plan slowly emerged in her mind—

Make prank calls to Chu Zhaoqiu.

Just call without talking, hang up as soon as she answers, then call again.

She wanted to make sure Chu Zhaoqiu wouldn’t sleep well tonight!

Back when she was recovering from her injuries, she had been in so much pain that she couldn’t sleep well for several days. Now it was Chu Zhaoqiu’s turn to taste this experience.

This would be Chu Zhaoqiu’s retribution!

She checked the time.

It was still early, perhaps not yet Chu Zhaoqiu’s bedtime.

She decided to wait a bit longer before making the prank calls, determined to ensure Chu Zhaoqiu wouldn’t sleep well tonight!

It was now 23:06 [11:06 PM].

Fu Lianxue pondered Chu Zhaoqiu’s healthy sleep schedule from thousands of years ago, and decided it was time to strike.

Without hesitation, she pressed the voice call button!

A few seconds later, the call connected.

Chu Zhaoqiu’s voice came from the other end: “Hello?”

Fu Lianxue remained silent, immediately hanging up, then called again.

Chu Zhaoqiu answered again.

Fu Lianxue hung up again, then continued calling.

Third time, fourth time, fifth time… tenth time, Chu Zhaoqiu answered them all.

Moreover, her voice was crystal clear each time, showing no impatience or sleepiness, as if… she hadn’t been sleeping at all.

On the eleventh call, Fu Lianxue finally realized something was off.

This time, she didn’t hang up.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Cleaning my room,” the person on the other end said.

“Cleaning your room?! Why are you cleaning at this hour?!”

“Since I need to tidy up anyway, I thought I might as well take this opportunity to clean everything, it’ll look much more comfortable this way.”

“…”

“You’ve called so many times, is there something you need? Why haven’t you been saying anything?”

“…”

The troublemaker who had messed up the room was feeling frustrated.

All these calls had been for nothing!

“At your age, you should be sleeping properly, not cleaning rooms!”

When Chu Zhaoqiu heard her sudden concern about her sleep schedule, she immediately understood everything.

Fu Lianxue had come to cause trouble.

But there was an unexpected development – she hadn’t succeeded.

Chu Zhaoqiu suddenly felt like laughing.

Through the phone, she imagined Fu Lianxue’s current expression.

A faint, gentle smile hung at the corner of her lips, unconsciously traveling through her words to the other end of the phone.

“How about next time?”

Fu Lianxue: “…”

How annoying.

“Heh, just you wait, Chu,” she said menacingly, “I won’t let you have it easy!”

If she couldn’t kill her now, couldn’t she at least make her uncomfortable?

Tonight’s mission had failed.

If she had known, she wouldn’t have climbed through Chu Zhaoqiu’s window and messed up her room!

Fu Lianxue angrily hung up the phone, tossed it aside, and grabbed Baobao for an intense petting session.

“What better way to relieve worry than to pet a cat!”

Chu Zhaoqiu looked at her phone’s forcibly ended call screen and shook her head with a helpless smile.

Even though Fu Lianxue was so fierce, she didn’t feel any tension at all, and instead hoped to see her more often.

Any way would do, as long as she could see her one more time.

Whatever Fu Lianxue wanted to do was fine, she couldn’t control her, as long as Fu Lianxue was happy.

Besides, if Fu Lianxue couldn’t vent her feelings, she would only get angrier.

She just needed to deal with things as they came, letting nature take its course.

Chu Zhaoqiu stopped her movements and turned to look at the moon outside the window.

She hoped Fu Lianxue would be well, and that Zhouchen [City name] would remain peaceful and quiet like this.

It was three o’clock in the morning.

Zhouchen, shrouded in darkness, was completely silent.

The moon in the sky was hidden by clouds, the night was heavy and eerie, with ghostly winds rising from all directions.

A young girl, Lin Yun, lay in bed, unconsciously falling into a dream.

In her dream, everything was white.

She stood in the whiteness, unconsciously rubbing her arms, unexpectedly feeling cold.

Then, suddenly, she heard a dripping sound in her ears.

She listened carefully—it was the sound of water.

The moment she identified the sound, her vision suddenly became hazy and blurry, as if a mist had suddenly risen before her eyes.

Just then, a figure suddenly appeared in the blurry mist.

It looked like a girl.

She had her head lowered, hair loose, silent and unmoving.

Lin Yun rubbed her eyes, trying hard to see clearly, but the figure remained indistinct and unclear. Only the continuous dripping sound persisted in her ears, like a broken faucet.

Then, the figure moved.

—She suddenly rushed towards her!

Lin Yun woke with a start, breaking into a cold sweat, sitting in her breezy room, breathing heavily.

It was a dream… thankfully just a dream.

She patted her chest in relief, feeling as if she’d been granted a pardon [ru meng da she 如蒙大赦 – idiom meaning extremely relieved].

The next second, her ears keenly caught a sound—

“Drip…

“Drop…”

This time, it wasn’t a dream.

Lin Yun sat on her bed, still shaken.

The water sound continued uninterrupted, dropping one drop at a time, continuing like this for quite a while.

She turned her head toward her bathroom, slightly frowning.

In this scientific age, there couldn’t be ghosts or monsters… perhaps she hadn’t turned off the water properly before sleeping?

After a moment of hesitation, she gritted her teeth and decided to get out of bed to turn off the water.

She didn’t like this water sound, it gave her the creeps.

She couldn’t let it run all night either, how would she get any sleep then?

All the lights in the room were turned on, making the room bright.

With the support of the light, she gathered her courage to walk to the bathroom and opened the door—

It was dry.

The entire bathroom, from inside to outside, didn’t have a single drop of water.

The faucet that she had expected to be dripping was sitting quietly in its place, having not released a single drop of water.

She suddenly froze at the doorway, her body stiffening.

In an instant, an ice-cold chill quickly crawled throughout her entire body.

Because—

“Drip… drip…”

That water sound was still there.

The clear sound of water drifted by her ears, like a ghostly wind drilling into the crevices of her bones.

Fear instantly crawled across her face.

She opened her eyes in horror, and the next second screamed in terror: “Ah—!”

In the midst of her scream, the water sound suddenly disappeared, as if it had all been a prank.

A week later, Chu Yun returned home to seek help from her grandmother.

But not for herself, rather for a business partner.

“—His daughter has been haunted by something unclean.”
