Plan A
Gift of the Spring Breeze 8
Red Thread
“I do not mean to dislike you; it is just that I am expressing my surprise.”
Su Xin realized that her reaction might harm the ghost older sister, as it sounded like she was being dismissive, but she actually did not have that intention.
Ling Zhi’s expression on her face warmed up, she moved her eyes, staring intently at Yue Lao, signaling him to continue speaking.
“Do you still remember your previous matters?”
Yue Lao asked with a somewhat cautious attitude.
Ling Zhi shook her head, indicating she had forgotten.
Yue Lao is not considered a powerful upper celestial, but unlike other gods, he has his own unique ability.
Fate is a mysterious and wonderful thing, threads and strands that no one can see clearly, except for him.
Just as he can materialize marriage fate as a red thread to bind two people, the fate between people, or even between gods, consisting of thousands of threads and ten thousand strands, he can perceive clearly.
This is also the reason for his existence, and why he has a place above the nine heavens.
Yue Lao began to tell Ling Zhi about her life before, and his memory is not bad; even after several hundred years, he has not forgotten.
Ling Zhi’s life is not complex, and it can be summarized in a few words.
“When you were made into a medicine person, your body contained her branches and leaves.”
Su Xin cultivated for a very long time and existed for a long time, long enough to be there before Ling Zhi’s death.
“This is your bond.”
Several hundred years ago, they already had a deep entanglement.
Su Xin’s branches and leaves existed inside Ling Zhi’s body, merging with her meridians and flesh, and because Su Xin already had a spirit at that time, their bond continued even after Ling Zhi became a ghost.
Therefore, Ling Zhi’s ghost core would drill into Su Xin’s body, and Ling Zhi’s power was ineffective against Su Xin.
The barrier of the Chenghuang Temple confines Ling Zhi’s soul, but when Ling Zhi touches Su Xin, she is assimilated by her qi, and the barrier cannot sense it, naturally allowing Ling Zhi to leave.
When Ling Zhi’s body no longer has Su Xin’s qi, the barrier perceives it and pulls Ling Zhi back.
Yue Lao finished telling the story and was really anxious inside, wondering why no celestial had come yet, as he felt he was losing control.
“Give me a thread.”
Ling Zhi looked at Yue Lao.
“What?”
Yue Lao was somewhat confused, and suddenly his expression changed.
“No way!”
The red thread is the thread of marriage fate; how can it be given casually!
“Give me one thread, anyway you have so many.”
Su Xin stepped forward and extended her hand toward Yue Lao.
“Without me, you can’t leave there, right? So you must always follow me.”
Su Xin turned her head to look at Ling Zhi, the red-clothed female ghost, whose expression was complex.
“I heard that Yue Lao’s red thread is unbreakable. No matter how far apart, this red thread can always be found. Anyway, we don’t have a destined marriage fate, it’s not under his control, so tying a thread shouldn’t matter, right?”
Su Xin calculated that this would be more convenient.
“Give me a thread.”
“No.”
Yue Lao hid his cane wrapped with red thread behind him, thinking this little demon did not know the immensity of heaven and earth, daring to ask a god for something.
“He won’t give it.”
Su Xin looked pleadingly at her ghost older sister.
“If he doesn’t give it, I will destroy it.”
The black mist surged on Ling Zhi’s hand, causing the indoor temperature to suddenly drop.
If he doesn’t give it, then take it.
Yue Lao appeared very troubled, and Ling Zhi didn’t give him much time to think. He gritted his teeth and took out a red thread.
Why hasn’t anyone come yet!
Su Xin happily took the red thread and tied it to her left pinky finger.
“Extend your hand.”
Ling Zhi extended her right hand, watching as Su Xin tied the red thread to her right pinky finger.
“Alright, this way we won’t be separated, and you won’t have to worry about not finding me.”
The pear blossom demon smiled happily, her eyebrows filled with spiritual energy and pure joy.
Ling Zhi felt her long-silent heart suddenly move, a twitching pain.
A little fool.
How can you so casually tie yourself to someone like this?
Yue Lao’s red thread is unbreakable.
Ling Zhi raised her hand, and the red thread emitted a special light in the air, connecting to the other end of her fate.
“Go.”
Ling Zhi had just stepped out of Yue Lao Temple when she quickly retreated back inside.
Yue Lao sighed in relief, finally, they’ve come.
“Block me?”
Ling Zhi held Su Xin’s hand, as Su Xin seemed to be the source of her energy. Holding her hand could double their attack power and halve the damage they received.
Outside Yue Lao Temple stood the four great star lords. Several hundred years ago, it was they who together sealed Ling Zhi inside.
No one knew better than them how unreasonable and difficult to deal with this female ghost was. Several hundred years had passed, and while their power had increased, so had this demon’s.
The four great star lords looked at each other, once more.
“I do not harm the human world, so why seal me? There are hundreds and thousands of evil ghosts, why do you not go after them?”
Ling Zhi’s expression was mocking.
“I just want to go out and see, I absolutely will not cause chaos. Don’t force me; if you force me, I will break into the underworld, and I won’t care about the consequences then.”
“A mere evil ghost, how dare you speak so wildly.”
Ling Zhi summoned her ghost core, startling the four great star lords.
What is this?
“How about each side takes a step back? I can guarantee she will absolutely not do anything to harm the human world. Can you not lock her up again, alright?”
Su Xin understood the situation and decided to step in as a peacemaker.
Although she didn’t know who would win if they fought, it was clear that Ling Zhi’s side was at a disadvantage. After all, there were four people on the opposing side, plus the one in the temple made it five, while their side only had two. She didn’t know how powerful Ling Zhi was, but she knew her own strength; any one of the four opponents could easily defeat her.
“Where did this little demon come from, actually meddling in our matters here? Little demon, do you know what kind of evil ghost she is? A demon that has just cultivated a human form, actually daring to associate with an evil ghost, destroying your future.”
One of the star lords initially intended to scold her, but upon seeing their tightly held hands and the red thread connecting their pinkies, he seemed to understand something and decided to target Su Xin.
“Future? What is a future? Can you eat it?”
Su Xin wasn’t joking; she was just seriously portraying a clueless, naive demon. Indeed, she was just that—a demon who had recently descended the mountain. How could she know what a future is, only knowing about tofu pudding and candied hawthorn, oh, and wontons and dumplings.
But that star lord thought Su Xin was deliberately mocking him and immediately became unhappy.
Who is Ling Zhi? Several hundred years ago, they barely managed to imprison this evil ghost, and that was after she was severely injured and had dealt with many colleagues.
This matter is something people in the celestial realm are unwilling to mention, too shameful, simply a disgrace.
But who is Su Xin? A completely unknown, newly transformed little demon they could easily kill, yet she dared to mock them.
Ling Zhi knew Su Xin was truly naive and couldn’t help but smile.
“Do you really want to fight?”
Ling Zhi rotated her ghost core; she didn’t really want to fight, not because she thought she couldn’t win or because she was afraid, but simply because it was very troublesome. The celestial realm was filled with countless celestials, and she didn’t want to cause trouble for herself; she just wanted some peace.
“Not here, the commotion would be too great. Do you dare to go with us to the Ninth Heaven for a battle?”
If she truly couldn’t win, she could still ask for help.
The four great star lords did not have any intention of bullying with numbers, as this evil ghost was indeed somewhat abnormal.
“Why not.”
Ling Zhi took Su Xin up, and Su Xin curiously looked around, seemingly unaware of the great unknown danger ahead.
“Are the ones fighting you celestials?”
“Yes.”
“I heard celestials are all very powerful, can you win?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.”
“I’m not afraid. I haven’t done anything bad, so why should I be afraid?”
Su Xin said without any fear, thinking that celestials only punish demons who have done bad things.
“But they think you did something wrong.”
Ling Zhi looked at the silly little demon she was holding.
“What did I do wrong?”
“Being with me.”
Ling Zhi shook her pinky, the red thread that doesn’t belong to the human world emitting light.
“If being with you means doing something bad, then I must be beyond redemption.”
Su Xin chuckled quietly, squeezing Ling Zhi’s hand.
“Good thing you’re not human.”
Ling Zhi sighed, the little demon looked silly, but the words she spoke always made people’s hearts ripple.
If she were human, then they wouldn’t have met, let alone the entanglement buried hundreds of years ago.
The battle started so suddenly that Su Xin was somewhat unprepared. What surprised her was that during Ling Zhi’s one-against-many fight, she never let go of Su Xin’s hand even once.
Of course, Ling Zhi would not let go, as the damage she suffered could be halved, and the damage she dealt could be doubled. This was such a good opportunity, and she wouldn’t let Su Xin leave her side. These celestials were not fools; they could see their relationship clearly, and Yue Lao’s red thread still tied them.
The little demon in this group of people was no different from a little lamb in a wolf’s den; once let go, the consequences would be unimaginable.
As techniques intertwined, Su Xin only felt very confused. She was held in Ling Zhi’s arms, sometimes thrown out, sometimes caught back, occasionally spinning and jumping in mid-air.
“Unable to eliminate hundreds of years ago, indeed a disaster.”
“This ghost’s fate has already transcended the three realms; no one can capture her.”
Su Xin suddenly felt something rush into her body, and the next moment, her body was in a tearing pain as if her whole person was about to explode, like both cold ice and lava.
Her consciousness lightened, and she fainted.
The show wasn’t finished yet, I’m giving a poor review, oh.
Su Xin reverted to part of her original form, a tree branch, blooming with pear flowers, evoking extreme pity.
Ling Zhi couldn’t hold it, watching with wide eyes as the flower branch drifted away from her, into a woman’s hand.
That was the Hundred Flower Fairy, the one in charge of the world’s flowers and plants.
Little demon!
Dozens of chains bound her, one by one tying around Ling Zhi’s body.
“Captured her, lock her back, strengthen the seal!”
“Let me go!”
Ling Zhi’s black hair flew wildly, her red clothes looked as if they would drip blood.
Hers.
Ling Zhi stubbornly looked in the direction, at the pear tree branch, where the red thread was quietly tied.
Her eyebrows and eyes were extremely dark, just like a delicate painted skin, excessively covered with powder and ink.
The explosive sound resounded through the Ninth Heaven.
