Fate Trading System – Chapter 69

Plan A

Gift of the Spring Breeze 3

Ling Zhi

Su Xin turned to the place said to be the true location of the prefect’s death, beside a well.

The well was not dry; Su Xin lowered her head to look down and saw water.

Whether this is the initial crime scene is still unknown, Su Xin did not obtain anything valuable and returned to Qin Yi’s side.

“I didn’t see anything; ghosts only appear at night. Young master, I will help you look again tonight.”

Su Xin obediently sat by Qin Yi’s side and said somewhat apologetically.

“No problem, thank you.”

Qin Yi shook his head; perhaps there are indeed some clues, but the pear blossom demon that just came out was bouncing around, so it is understandable not to observe anything.

“Tell me about the things you saw.”

Qin Yi looked at Su Xin with a serious expression.

Su Xin spoke a bit incoherently, talking about whatever came to mind, completely in a child’s narrative style, and Qin Yi, seeing how easily deceived Su Xin seemed, felt somewhat worried for some reason.

“Miss Su…”

“Young master, you don’t have to call me that; it sounds strange to me. You can call me whatever you like, even Pear is fine.”

Su Xin said uneasily.

“Alright, Pear, in the future, be cautious of people when you go out, and don’t trust everyone’s words.”

Qin Yi instructed like an old father to his child.

“I know, but I trust your words.”

Su Xin nodded. Although the original owner was in the mountains for a hundred years and didn’t know about world affairs, Su Xin knows, but she cannot show that she knows, so she still pretends to be confused despite understanding.

Qin Yi felt someone was following him, and it wasn’t just one group.

His movements should not have been leaked, unless someone has been watching him.

But this is quite normal; his movements generally represent the emperor’s orders, so he is always under attention. Almost every time he goes out, someone follows him.

This time, it is unknown which side the people around belong to.

Qin Yi needs to enter the prefect’s residence to investigate and must have a title. People are currently saying externally that the death was due to illness, so he cannot display a case-solving demeanor.

Openly entering will certainly alert the snake, but visiting at night will definitely have someone secretly watching. The coffin placed in the center of the hall is a troublesome matter, as Qin Yi does not know the cause of the prefect’s death.

His Majesty’s arranged spy is the steward of the prefecture. Su Xin said she saw the steward still following his normal routine, indicating the steward has no issues.

But with no issues, how could contact suddenly be lost?

Either the steward is strange, or the person in the mansion is simply not the real steward.

Qin Yi specifically took Su Xin to the prefect’s residence at night. Su Xin followed invisibly beside him, observing the surrounding situation.

For Qin Yi’s arrival, the prefect’s eldest son came to receive them.

“May I know who this young master is?”

“Qian Xing from the Six Doors.”

Qin Yi showed his token to the eldest young master, whose expression was startled. The name of the Six Doors is well-known, and he had naturally heard of it, but he did not expect his father’s death to bring someone from the Six Doors.

“Chief Qian, please come in quickly.”

Liu Su, looking haggard, quickly invited Qin Yi inside.

“Chief Qian, why do you suddenly visit? Could it be that my father’s death is suspicious?”

Liu Su also did not understand how his father could leave so suddenly; it was too abrupt.

But the fact was in front of him, and the doctor also said that his father died of illness, leaving Liu Su helpless.

Qin Yi’s arrival caused the family members of the prefecture to look around.

While Qin Yi spoke with those people, Su Xin walked to the place where the coffin was placed and looked around.

There was nothing at all, very clean.

No ghosts.

The King of Hell wants you to die at the third watch (12AM to 2AM); how would he let you live until the fifth watch (4AM to 6AM)?

After death, a person becomes a ghost, and Black and White Impermanence1 take the soul to the underworld.

Some have grievances in their hearts, becoming fierce ghosts unwilling to leave, and Black and White Impermanence will not intervene.

They wait until their resentment dissipates, then reincarnate or become lonely ghosts, wandering in this world.

However, even as fierce or grievance ghosts, they cannot harm people. Once their hands are stained with karma, the nature changes completely, and Black and White Impermanence will take action.

At best, the soul is dispersed; at worst, they enter hell to suffer, then reincarnate in the six realms as the lowest animal.

The prefect’s ghost is not here, indicating he has already gone to the underworld for reincarnation. Since he is willing to reincarnate, he must have no grievances.

Could it really be a genuine death by illness?

Su Xin gestured to Qin Yi and then walked toward the well in the back courtyard.

Perhaps there.

What surprised Su Xin was that there was indeed a ghost by the well, but it wasn’t the prefect’s; it was a very young little girl, appearing to be only thirteen or fourteen years old.

Her figure was faint, looking as if it was about to dissipate.

“Hey, little girl ghost over there.”

Su Xin greeted her.

The girl ghost, after seeing Su Xin, sat by the well looking at her.

“Do you know how the male owner of this house died?”

Su Xin attempted to inquire.

“Why are you asking this?”

The girl ghost stood up.

“I want to ask on behalf of someone. Do you know anything? For the sake of us both being non-humans, can you tell me?”

“He deserves to die.”

The girl ghost had no intention of being close to a demon; she was born a human, died a ghost, and is always different from a demon.

“Seems like you know. Can you tell me? This is very important.”

Su Xin clapped her hands, thinking there might be a chance.

The girl ghost disappeared from her original place, and Su Xin quickly chased after her.

“If you don’t speak, I’ll chase you, catch you, and force you to tell me.”

This little girl ghost wasn’t as powerful as she was.

The girl ghost rushed all the way toward the countryside temple.

“Sister Ling Zhi! Save me!”

Su Xin chased the ghost all the way to the temple outside the city.

Inside the temple, the ghostly atmosphere was dense, and at a glance, it was clear there were many ghosts.

As soon as Su Xin stepped into the temple, she felt something fly towards her, and with a whoosh, it drilled into her mouth.

Su Xin frowned, wondering what it was. It felt like a round, cool object, emitting a burst of cold, Yin energy.

When Su Xin looked up, she discovered that all the ghosts in the temple were looking at her with very terrified eyes.

“You actually devoured Sister Ling Zhi’s ghost core!”

At a glance, Su Xin saw the most prominent presence among the ghost crowd.

It was a very beautiful female ghost, who seemed to have considerable skills. She held a lamp in her hand, her long black hair almost reaching her ankles, dressed in red ghostly clothes, with red patterns on the left side of her face.

Clearly, her appearance was enchanting and alluring, yet it gave off a cool feeling.

Ghost core?

In the original owner’s memory, Su Xin did not find knowledge of this kind, which was very normal, as the original owner was still a little demon who had just descended the mountain and had not seen much of the world.

The female ghost called Ling Zhi walked over; she was not wearing shoes, and her white, tender feet were exposed.

Ling Zhi frowned as she stared at the demon in front of her, which was emitting a clear spiritual aura. She saw that her ghost core had automatically flown out and entered this demon’s body.

“Please return it to me.”

Ling Zhi extended her hand.

“I also want to return it to you; it’s icy and very uncomfortable, but how do I return it to you?”

Su Xin covered her stomach, as the burst of yin energy continuously drilled into her bones, causing great discomfort.

Ling Zhi placed her hand on Su Xin’s stomach, guiding the ghost core upwards little by little.

Su Xin unconsciously opened her mouth, waiting for the round, small object to come out of her body.

The ghost core floated in mid-air, and Su Xin, afraid it would enter her body again, quickly left the temple.

Ling Zhi tried to control her power to retrieve the ghost core but discovered that her ghost core seemed to have found something very attractive and flew towards outside the temple.

Ling Zhi chased it outside and, after some effort, managed to reintegrate it back into her body.

“Are you alright? Please don’t let your thing run around. I really didn’t mean to swallow it; after all, it doesn’t taste good.”

Su Xin stood at the door, looking at Ling Zhi.

Ling Zhi, however, wasn’t interested in what she was saying. She looked at the Chenghuang Temple, then at her feet.

She came out?

“Sister Ling Zhi! You can come out! That’s great!”

The previous girl ghost ran out, cheering around Ling Zhi.

“Could you please tell me how the prefect died? I really need your help.”

Su Xin wanted to help Qin Yi.

“I’m not telling. Why should I tell you, and don’t you need it? I haven’t seen you before, so why do you want to know these things? Are you following that person here?”

The girl ghost made a face at Su Xin, standing beside Ling Zhi with a fearless demeanor.

Ling Zhi looked at Su Xin with a very complex expression and walked back into the Chenghuang Temple.

When she tried to come out again, it seemed as if there was an invisible barrier in front, completely isolating Ling Zhi inside.

“Huh?”

The girl ghost frowned, expressing confusion about the current situation.

“Could you please come over here?”

Ling Zhi looked at Su Xin, her eyebrows and eyes were faint, her lips extremely red, and when her deep black eyes focused on someone, they had a particularly strange power.

Su Xin walked over, looking at Ling Zhi with confusion.

“Can you hold my hand?”

Ling Zhi extended her hand.

Su Xin nodded and held her hand.

“Take me outside.”

Su Xin pulled Ling Zhi, and without any obstacle, they just walked out.

“How can it be like this?”

Ling Zhi’s feet lightly touched the ground, and under the dim light, her expression appeared confused.

She does not know who she is, nor where she comes from, and she does not even remember how she died. Black and White Impermanence do not take her, nor do they talk to her. As a ghost, her abilities are very strong; she can devour ghosts and kill ghosts.

She is clearly not a bound spirit, but she is like a prisoner in this Chenghuang Temple, unable to walk out.

She does not remember how long she has stayed here, only seeing the coming and going of new ghosts and the leaving of old ghosts.

They all can leave, except her.

Until today, this restriction seems to have been broken.

Accurately speaking, it wasn’t completely broken.

Only by relying on this demon could she walk out.

Ling Zhi nodded in a manner of thanks towards Su Xin and disappeared from the original place.

But after just a few moments, she appeared again in the Chenghuang Temple.

Ling Zhi looked at the still somewhat dazed demon who seemed out of the situation and thought of a method.

In order to leave this ghostly place, Ling Zhi tried many methods.

Whether it was possessing people’s bodies or objects, all would be bounced back.

Now, it seems somewhat different.
